IE currently selected printer name

In IE, before printing any document we can select a printer which is not a default printer and print any web page. Where does this information stored? When user prints any document that is opened in IE, I want to capture the printer name that is selected. I am fine even to create an ActiveX control to retrieve that information. Appreciate your early response.

This is the message I receive when trying to go to AOL mail from my internet browser

Download problem with Windows 7 64 bit and IE ver. 11 or 10 or 9.

Why is that a . turns to _ in filenames when I try to download? If a file is named xxxxx.exe it can be renamed to xxxxx_exe or xxxxx.pfd it can be renamed to xxxxx_pdf. I have tried other IE versions but with no avail. I have resat the browser and have reinstalled it. The error is sporadic and the only solution is to restart the Pc. I don't think this is an issue with 32 bit versions of Windows. The Antivirus has been uninstalled too. I have a snapshot of the registry when everything is ok and another snapshot when the error is present but I can't tell any difference. It is hard to troubleshoot because the error is sporadic.

Peter.

Hi,

When Java is missing you receive a popup saying

"The page you are viewing uses Java. More information on

Java support is available from the Microsoft website"

It has also an option

"Do not show this message again".

Where is the information about the "do not show" option stored ?  Is it in the registry ?

Thank you

Markus

Password Prompt

Consider a domain environment. I have an internal intranet site built on Sharepoint, which automatically displays information about the user currently logged on. There is no credential prompt for the user when he opens this URL in IE. This URL is added to the Trusted Sites for all users, mostly done in time by manual configuration by each user. The configuration for the Security Settings under "User Authentication\Logon" is set to "Automatic logon with current user name and password".

Recently we've modified this scenario as follows: using group policy preferences we've specified the intranet URL as an intranet site. Therefore we now have the same URL defined both in Intranet sites as well as Trusted sites. In order to increase the security against Trusted sites, we've changed the "User Authentication\Logon" setting to "Automatic logon only in Intranet zone". The problem now is that clients are being prompted for credentials when opening the intranet page. Taking the intranet URL off the Trusted sites list makes the automatic authentication work without any issues for a specific user. Therefore it seems there's a problem when the same URL is mentioned for both Intranet and Trusted sites, and when the logon settings are different for these 2 types of zones.

Is there a way we could fix this, without having to revert the Trusted sites setting to "Automatically logon with user name and password" ? Perhaps a way to only remove this URL from the list of each user's Trusted Sites, without affecting the rest there ?

IE9 wont open pages, just give a new tab thats blank

IE9 won't open a lot of pages.  It just opens a new tab that is a blank screen and a empty tab title.  The extension types all vary.  However, if I cut and paste the link in a new tab it will work.  I already tried to down grade the version to 8, but it says its unsupported by windows 7 64 bit, funny I started with 8...

IE9 and IE10 cannot download/open any files

We are seeing this issue pretty consistently across the board with IE9 and IE10, and everything we have researched has not worked.  We notice that if we are logged in as administrator on a computer  (both PC's running Windows 7 and zero-client terminals), we do not experience the issue.   When we log back in as the user, we cannot open, save, or save as any downloads.

We have deleted all appropriate registry entries, removed and reinstalled IE9 and IE10 on different computers, removed any group policy that may apply to our internet settings for testing, and removed our av program for testing only.

Across the net we see multiple questions on this issue, but no clear-cut answer.  Has anyone come up with a standard answer for this?  Very frustrating...we didn't experience this on the same systems, same operating system, when we were on IE8.

Unable to right click on link and open as a new tab in IE11

Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7x64.  User right clicks on a link and selects 'Open in new tab', instead of a new tab the link opens in a new window.  Also, user has no history (the back arrow does nothing).  This is a restricted user, giving them local admin rights resolves the issue (not an acceptable solution). If I try a different restricted user on the same workstation, they do not have the issue.

(user1 = user with the issue).

As domain admin user...no issues
As user1 on a different workstation...no issues
Disabled all add-ins...same issue
Renamed the IE local profile appdata info...same issue
Reset IE (user config failed to reset)...same issue
Renamed local profile...same issue
Made user1 a local admin...reset IE successfully...no issues
Removed local admin and tested...same issue.
Uninstall IE11 and reinstalled...same issue.

This is on a domain with roaming profiles and folder redirection.

Thanks.

IE9 cannot resume loading webpages when the computer reconnect to internet after lost connection

I am using IE9 on my laptop. The wireless internet connection often gets lost due to issues of my DSL provider, but the connection always gets back soon after the signal turning from red to green in a couple of minutes. The problem is that the IE9 won't resume connecting to websites when this internet connection gone-and-back happens, assuming I was using the IE while the connection firstly went lost. IE9 will display something like "the internet connect has been fixed" every time when I try to re-open website on the same IE window, same tab or other tabs. I have to close all IEs, then open new IE windows to get it working.

This has been really annoying since many tabs are already open. Why does IE has to restart to resuming connecting to internet? I hope there may be a fix for this. Thank you.

Lock Favorties bar from changes in IE11?

I'm trying to deploy Internet Explorer 11 in a Remote Desktop environment for several employees.  How do I lock the Favorites bar so that changes cannot be made?  Even when I select Lock, changes can be made, items deleted, added, etc. by normal users.  There does not seem to be a GPO for this.  Does anyone have any idea to simply make the favorites bar fixed and unchangeable by normal users?  This is under Windows Server 2012 R2.

No HTML5 video in IE11 on Server 2012 R2

$

I cannot seem to get HTML5 video working in IE11 on Server 2012 R2, in RDSH mode (Remote Desktop Session Host).

I have the Desktop Experience feature installed, and have tried adding the sites (e.g. youtube, vimeo) to trusted sites and cranked the security down to the lowest (medium-low) for trusted sites but nothing. I don't really want to have to use trusted sites anyway...

On YouTube I am getting the HTML5 right-click menu over the video area, but no video plays - just a buffering symbol spinning and then a black area where the video should be.

I tried changing the user agent to IE10 via the F12 tools, but no change.

I ran the suite of tests from peacekeeper.futuremark.com and most of the stuff worked, e.g. all the animations, but none of the video, especially videoCodecH264 showed as N/A.

www.w3.org/2010/05/video/mediaevents.html is giving "unknown error" in the video playback window.

I can make YouTube work by adding it to compatibility view, where it then drops back to using Flash player. This does not work for Vimeo.

I have minimal policy settings set on these servers at the moment.

Any suggestions would be most welcome, thanks in advance.
