Bypass Proxy for Local Addresses - Office 365 connection/ Outlook 2010

$

This is a strange one.  Connectivity to Office 365 within our netwotk works fine although very slow for outlook 2010 client to initially connect. Once connected, it works ok.  I have done a netwotk trace using netmon to see if i can identify the reason for the slow startup (2 mins minumum for profile to load and for outlook to connect to exchange). The trace tell me that my local pc tries to make a direct connection to the office365 external IPs first, then tries the TMG proxy. Once it hits the proxy, it kicks into life and works.

So it looks to me like it thinks the external IP address of office 365 is an internal address and spends it time trying all the ip addresses until it trys the proxy.  At this point, theBypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses is ticked.

As soon as i untick this box, all traffic heads directly to the proxy and of course it connects like lighting.  The exchange settings proxy is set in outlook for "on fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" (tick is on) and the same for slow networks.

I cant for the life of me work out why it tries to connect directly to the external IPs first and not connect via TMG until i untick theBypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses

Would love any ideas that may assist.

Issue with host resolution using a pac file on Internet Explorer 11

Hi guys,

I'm facing a weird issue on IE11 that is causing some complains from the end users. I've a pac file configured on IE11 and when I open the IE11 on the first time it takes around 45 seconds to load the webpage content. So I'm able to open a new tabs and type new addresses but the content is only loaded after 45 seconds.

I was analysing the issue and I figured out that is related with a non-sense/stupid dns lookup when you have a pac file configured on IE11, using the rule isInNet(host, “pattern”, "mask").

The first time you open IE11 the host is resolved as dummy, instead of the homepage or the web address typed, so you'll find a lot of queries by dummy, when it doesn't exist at all. If you have several dns servers configured and with a slow connection then you get around 45 seconds or more until you get the webpage content.

This issue isn't appearing on IE8 or Google Chrome, so it should be some bug on IE11, I suppose.

Please keep in mind that I've tested in using my corporate image and using a vanilla image (zero-customizations) and the behaviour/output was the same.

Has someone faced the same issue already?

Thanks in advance,

Valter Anjos

Launching Microsoft Access from Internet Explorer to view a downloaded MDB file opens the wrong file (not a problem if I use Firefox)

When clicking on a link (in Internet Explorer 9) to download an Access MDB file and then choosing to open the file directly in Microsoft Access (2007) instead of saving it, the file is copied to Temporary Internet Files but Microsoft Access tries to open a different file and displays an (Unrecognized database format) error.

When I click on the option to open the file, the MDB file is copied to Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 but instead of that file, Access tries to open a different (incorrect) file located in Temporary Internet Files\Content.MSO (e.g. in the above error message, NativeView.do is an XML file containing an error message).

I don't see this problem with Word, Excel or PowerPoint files. When opening a Word file (without saving) the Word file is copied to Content.IE5 but an identical .tmp file is created in Content.MSO which when opened in Microsoft Word displayed the required file correctly. The same happens for Excel files. PowerPoint appears to be handled a little differently (no .tmp file created in Content.MSO but the required file is still copied to Content.IE5) but the PPT file is still opened correctly in Microsoft PowerPoint.

I think the Content-Type "application/msaccess" is fine because Internet Explorer does launch Microsoft Access. It just tries to open the wrong file (or so I think). However, it looks like the file type is not being determined. Here is what I noticed when trying to open different Microsoft Office files using Internet Explorer:

The last one is the MDB file. As you can see, only for this type of file, the "Type" (Microsoft Office Access 2007?) is not displayed in this Open/Save dialog box.

On Firefox, I don't see this problem. When I tried clicking on the link to the MDB file in Firefox, Microsoft Access was launched and the file was opened correctly. Is there something I can do so the MDB file is opened properly using IE? I can add/change headers in the HTTP response that writes this file to the output stream (on disk) if that helps.

Thanks for your time!

how to set the compatibility of Internet Explorer dynamically using JavaScript or JQUERY

Currently we are using IE8 and iFrames in our application. We need to open an intranet site within this application with IE9 compatibility. The base application compatibility cannot be changed to IE9. So we need to dynamically change the compatibility of Internet explorer from IE8 to IE9 vice-versa whenever we access the other intranet site.

We have tried the <META> tag changes and the <DOCTYPE> changes but didnt succeed. Any inputs on this would be of great help as this is an urgent client requirement.

Unable to right click on link and open as a new tab in IE11

Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7x64.  User right clicks on a link and selects 'Open in new tab', instead of a new tab the link opens in a new window.  Also, user has no history (the back arrow does nothing).  This is a restricted user, giving them local admin rights resolves the issue (not an acceptable solution). If I try a different restricted user on the same workstation, they do not have the issue.

(user1 = user with the issue).

As domain admin user...no issues
As user1 on a different workstation...no issues
Disabled all add-ins...same issue
Renamed the IE local profile appdata info...same issue
Reset IE (user config failed to reset)...same issue
Renamed local profile...same issue
Made user1 a local admin...reset IE successfully...no issues
Removed local admin and tested...same issue.
Uninstall IE11 and reinstalled...same issue.

This is on a domain with roaming profiles and folder redirection.

Thanks.

Multiple Clicks To Go Back One Page IE9

Mindboggling issue which has forced me onto Firefox. I can't just click the back button to go back to the previous page when browsing. Right clicking the back button shows a variable number of ads, and you have to click that many times to get to previous page. I have tried the uninstall/reinstall, ad blocking, blocking various websites involved with ads etc. No change. It makes IE9 worthless to me.

Trying to add website in compatibility view in IE 11 with powershell

Good morning everybody,

In our organization, we decided to do every script and maintenance job using powershell. I am trying to do a script to add websites to the compatibility view list in IE11 to worksaround a problem with microsoft update. In IE10, I was able to do it no problem by creating a GPO in powershell and changing the value in the registry. However, this seems to have changed in IE11 .

Can anyone point me in the right way to do this in powershell. I didn't have much luck so far and I'm going in circles.

Thanks a lot.

Automate reset of a users Internet Explorer Settings - Script?

We are in the process of rolling out IE9 on Win 7 x64 PC’s. This is going fine, however we have noticed issues that requires a complete reset of the IE settings and user files. What we need at this point after IE9 installs is to have an automated way to:

  1. Under ‘Reset Internet Explorer Settings’ do this.
  2. Delete all of the users IE cached/temp files under their App Data folder.
  3.  Back in Internet Properties, do a ‘Restore Advanced Settings.’

Looking online, there is no GPO option for this. We cannot do this on 1500+ pcs manually.  I tried looking online for scripts, but nothing could be found to meet our needs. Whatever script we can find, we would probably use SCCM so the script could run with admin rights.

Anyone experience something like the above? What was your solution or do you have a link with solid documentation on how to resolve.

IE 32 bit pinned to taskbar is opening 64-bit IE

Hi All,

Some users are experiencing this but not all. For some users, when they pin the 32-bit version of IE to their taskbar and click on it, it opens the 64-bit version. I've attempted to unpin and re-pin the 32-bit version of IE but still the 64-bit opens when clicking on it. I've checked the privacy setting in the taskbar properties, and all is fine. I'm not sure why the 32-bit version of IE opens the 64-bit when pinned to the Start Menu. Does anyone has a suggestion on a fix.

Thanks

Internet Explorer 9 Silent Uninstall

$

Hello,

I created a custom IE9 install by using the Microsoft IEAK9. The source used for the custom install and destination OS is the same, Windows 7 Pro x86. My install works perfectly with the correct customizations. However, when I run the msiexec /x {GUID} uninstall key from the command line, I am prompted to locate the IE9 Msi installer. When I point it to the IEAK Output MSI file (which it already had found) it complains about not being a valid IE installer package. When I look at the details of the IE9-Setup-Full.msi I see a different product GUID than listed in the registry uninstall key, however if I attempt to use that key I get the "product is not installed" error. This is the command line used to install the package: MSIEXEC /I "\\serverpath\9.0\IEAK9OUTPUT\FLAT\Win32_WIN7\ENU\IE9-Setup-Full.msi" /qn /norestart

I can run the uninstall from the control panel without any problems, but I like to have a silent uninstall script in case I need to perform a reinstall if I run into any issues during general deployment. Has anyone else run into this problem and know a way to fix it?

Thank you

Support for Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 (after April 8, 2014)

Hi,

I am aware that Microsoft will stop supporting Internet Explorer 8 on April 8 2014 (the same date that Windows XP support stops).

We are running Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 as the browser.

We have not installed Internet Explorer 9 or above due to compatibility issues with internal intranet systems.

I have been trying to find out if machines that have Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 installed, will still receive newly detected Internet Explorer 8 Microsoft Security Patches from Microsoft following April 8, 2014.  This information has been difficult to determine on the internet.

Do you know if machines that have Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 installed, will still receive newly detected Internet Explorer 8 Microsoft Security Patches from Microsoft following April 8, 2014?

If there are any websites that you are aware of that answer either Yes or No to this question, I would appreciate if you could paste their link(s) here.

Thanks,

Brian.

No HTML5 video in IE11 on Server 2012 R2

I cannot seem to get HTML5 video working in IE11 on Server 2012 R2, in RDSH mode (Remote Desktop Session Host).

I have the Desktop Experience feature installed, and have tried adding the sites (e.g. youtube, vimeo) to trusted sites and cranked the security down to the lowest (medium-low) for trusted sites but nothing. I don't really want to have to use trusted sites anyway...

On YouTube I am getting the HTML5 right-click menu over the video area, but no video plays - just a buffering symbol spinning and then a black area where the video should be.

I tried changing the user agent to IE10 via the F12 tools, but no change.

I ran the suite of tests from peacekeeper.futuremark.com and most of the stuff worked, e.g. all the animations, but none of the video, especially videoCodecH264 showed as N/A.

www.w3.org/2010/05/video/mediaevents.html is giving "unknown error" in the video playback window.

I can make YouTube work by adding it to compatibility view, where it then drops back to using Flash player. This does not work for Vimeo.

I have minimal policy settings set on these servers at the moment.

Any suggestions would be most welcome, thanks in advance.

IE8 drag and drop in Outlook Web App OWA is not working

$

I'm having trouble identifying the cause behind an inability to drag and drop emails between folders in OWA (Exchange 2010).

The problem PC is running fully up to date 32 bit Windows XP SP3 with IE8. When I try to drag and drop an email all I see is a black stop symbol. On another PC with the same spec, logged in with the same user account, I can drag and drop emails fine between folders in OWA.

I've tried clearing browser cache/history etc, resetting the browser to factory defaults, re-installing the browser, reducing security in the browser to absolute minimum, re-installing Java, Silverlight, S/MIME (although I'm sure it doesn't use these).

Can anyone suggest anything else, or provide helpful links? I've been looking at this for many hours without any progress. If I even just knew what component/tool/feature IE is using when it does/doesn't drag and drop I'd have somewhere to start...

TIA.

IE 11 download problems

I'm using Windows 7 and recently installed IE 11. IE 11 wont download files or programs. It seems to be doing something because my dsl lights are blinking but I can't ever find what it downloaded.   I've done a search on the downloaded file but can't find it.   Chrome downloads the same things I'm trying to download using IE 11. I've rolled back to IE 10 and reinstalled IE 11 twice and it doesn't help.   A friend of my running Windows 7 and IE 11 can download the things I can't. I've put everything back on the default settings with no help.  Any suggestions?

Internet Explorer 11 Compatibility View & Group Policy

$

ok so I last week deployed Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013, thinking my recent additions to my domain group policy that add the CRM server to the IE Compatibility View list (registry key: HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\BrowserEmulation\PolicyList ), fixed the problem of the CRM server showing the MOBILE version of the CRM site because it doesn't like the user agent string in IE11. Much like it has fixed this for a bunch of other sites I have in that registry key that don't work in IE11. Well I come to find out today, that, IE 11 apparently no longer supports this and an update to it has broken this functionality somehow. Specifcally I see that clearing the browser History removes all the entries that are in the Compatibility View list, and my group policy preference doesn't seem to get applied any longer either. I have read that there's apparently a new binary string in a similar location that stores this, however that doesn't let me add & remove entries at will using group policy, nor does it prevent the user from clearing them out unintentionally by clearing their history, or resetting IE which we often due because its so fragile. Outlook Web access also shows the basic view rather than the premium view in IE 11, this I see there's at least a new update rollup available thats supposed to fix it, but with recent Exchange update rollup failure I'm reluctant to install them for awhile after they're released and that requires scheduled maintenance etc. That is not a fix. A fix is putting the Compatibility View settings back the way they were and letting us admins administer our networks like we were able to. Not only all this, but now you can't even add a sub-domain to compatibility view as it gets truncated to the WHOLE domain regardless. And according to this : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn321449.aspx?ppud=4 - even THAT is going away. WTF.

I dont have a hard time believing MS could be giving us IT pros the shaft yet again, but I'd at least like to give them the benefit of the doubt and ask if there's some other new way to control this in IE 11, or it just got overlooked and a fix is coming? I have numerous third party sites my users need with the older user agent string as well, and I do not want to have to teach them how to use the developer tools in IE, and getting the third party sites to change is a bit out of my scope and control. Can someone shed some light on this situation please? Chrome and Firefox both work fine btw on the above mentioned sites, but not all the third party ones, and some of my management tools such as HP iLO controls NEED the compatibility view to work.

Default Search Engines

I just want to know why choose "Search Engine Provider"  is even available?   I have gone to my settings, changed my preference, saved it, got back online (same sight) and low and behold  rite back to the unprefferred, unfamiliar, pain in the ass search engine that conveniently adds the bonus of routing me every where but where I was initially trying to go.  I guess where my frustration lies is I do not want to type in for example:  "Google" every time in "Conduit Search"  to get back to "Google".

Mind you this is one of many frustrating things that occur online, but I have to start somewhere.  I realize I can eliminate 90% of the issues purchasing a Mac and when I can afford it I will but in the mean time any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx

Internet Explorer 11 - Disable Download Prompt

$

I have seen a lot of responses to similar questions that must only relate to IE 9 and 10. I need to know how to disable the download prompting in Internet Explorer 11. I do not want to have to continue telling the computer I want to open a file that I have selected. I want it to open immediately when I double click (or click) the file. Does anyone know how this is accomplished in IE 11 (not 10, not 9, not 8).

Thanks.
