Trying to add website in compatibility view in IE 11 with powershell

$

Good morning everybody,

In our organization, we decided to do every script and maintenance job using powershell. I am trying to do a script to add websites to the compatibility view list in IE11 to worksaround a problem with microsoft update. In IE10, I was able to do it no problem by creating a GPO in powershell and changing the value in the registry. However, this seems to have changed in IE11 .

Can anyone point me in the right way to do this in powershell. I didn't have much luck so far and I'm going in circles.

Thanks a lot.

Bypass Proxy for Local Addresses - Office 365 connection/ Outlook 2010

$

This is a strange one.  Connectivity to Office 365 within our netwotk works fine although very slow for outlook 2010 client to initially connect. Once connected, it works ok.  I have done a netwotk trace using netmon to see if i can identify the reason for the slow startup (2 mins minumum for profile to load and for outlook to connect to exchange). The trace tell me that my local pc tries to make a direct connection to the office365 external IPs first, then tries the TMG proxy. Once it hits the proxy, it kicks into life and works.

So it looks to me like it thinks the external IP address of office 365 is an internal address and spends it time trying all the ip addresses until it trys the proxy.  At this point, theBypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses is ticked.

As soon as i untick this box, all traffic heads directly to the proxy and of course it connects like lighting.  The exchange settings proxy is set in outlook for "on fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" (tick is on) and the same for slow networks.

I cant for the life of me work out why it tries to connect directly to the external IPs first and not connect via TMG until i untick theBypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses

Would love any ideas that may assist.

Can't open a file, can only save or cancel

When I click on a link for a file, like an mp3, rdp, etc. the only options I get are save or cancel.  For example, if I try to connect to a windows azure virtual machine I have to download the RDP file - I can't just click open.  Is this an IE11 issue?  Is it a group policy setting?  Is this something I can fix/change?  Can I have my IT department change something?  This is really frustrating.  Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have a server running Small Business 2011. I am trying to update IE from 9 to 10 or 11. IE 10 is not showing up in my updates list, I already have the prerequsites installed for IE10 as well. I also have downloaded the IE10 installer directly from Microsoft but have been unable to successfully install it without error. Please help! We need IE10 for a certain web-based software we are using!!!

IE10 There is a problem with this website's security certificate.

I have seen lots of posts but no answers.

I have Windows 8 Pro RTM installed from MSDN. I am running IE10 and I go to my Linksys router and get the usual certificate error. In all previous versions of IE, you could just click continue and move forward. IE10 does not all this, please let me know where this setting is so I can use IE10, I hope I am not forced to use Chrome. Also there is no option to run as IE9 for some reason.

IE11 Opens blank tabs, must use new window

I'm running Windows 7 Pro SP1 with IE11 on my desktop. About two months ago I d/l'd all updates through the usual windows update and let them install. Shortly afterward I noticed that IE11 was no longer working correctly. I would click on a link and a new tab would open but it was blank. I then tried it with open in new window and it would do nothing. Then I tried the usual disable add-ons and such with the same results. I then tried using the reset and it kept telling me that I had to close all open window and programs. despite nothing open or running. Then I booted in safe mode and was able to successfully reset IE. I tried once again to use IE and the same thing continues to happen. IE11 has basically been rendered useless. I even tried going back to prior versions like 10 and even 9 with the same results. Troubleshooting came up with nothing.

Can someone please help? I'm using Firefox as my default now and would like to go back to IE11.

Thanks

Michael

Web application not working in IE under user profiles, works fine under administrator profile

I am an I.S. technician for a credit union. We have several web applications that require us to run Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 SP1.

Our users' Windows profiles are set up as Power Users and cannot have administrator privileges. The built-in Windows administrator profile is enabled and restricted for technician use only.

We have three models of workstations: Dell Vostro 270s, Dell Optiplex 780, and some brand new Dell Inspiron One 2020 All-in-One workstations.

All three workstation models are running Windows 7 SP1, with IE9, with all the same software, settings and policies.

We have one IE-only web application in question which works perfectly fine in our limited user profiles on the Vostro and Optiplex workstations, however, only on the new All-in-One workstations, there is one single page element within this web application that simply will not work when logged into a limited user profile. Most of the web application loads and works fine, except for one necessary "Payment" tab, as highlighted in red in this screenshot:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2ac47qwzsp10hvq/zxePAUiFpD/02_IE_Error_UserProfile.jpg

Strangely enough, this same portion of the application works perfectly fine when logged in to the administrator profile on the same workstation, so it seems that it cannot be a hardware/workstation issue. The IE settings and policies are identical under both profiles, and also match the settings and policies on the other workstation models. While troubleshooting, I tried executing Internet Explorer with "Run as Administrator" while logged in as the limited user, and the web application still did not work. Just for the sake of troubleshooting, I also tried adding the users to the workstation's Administrator group, but the site still did not work for the user.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2ac47qwzsp10hvq/pxSQ9SggcR/01_IE_Error_UserProfile_RunAsAdministrator.jpg

Then I instead executed Internet Explorer using the "Run as a different user" command while holding down Shift and right-clicking on the IE icon. I then used the exact same administrator credentials.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/klz8g3glu30fz48/03_IE_Error_UserProfile_RunAsAdministrator.JPG

When launching IE this way, the same portion of the web application works fine, just as it does when logged in to the Administrator profile, as shown below:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2ac47qwzsp10hvq/tPldMfeQ3U/04_IE_NoError_UseProfile_RunAsAnotherUser.jpg

From what I understand, using "Run as a different user → Administrator" versus "Run as Administrator" actually loads IE using the Administrator registry hive, rather than just granting the same privileges to the current user? What could this indicate? This isn't a solution itself as we cannot give our users the administrator password. What else can I do to try to solve this problem so that the our users can run IE normally within their own limited profiles and use this site as they should be able.

For now, I have used the third-party "runasspc" as a temporary work-around so employees can run this application as the administrator user when needed without knowing the password, however, this is an ugly hack because the IE favorites, downloads, etc, all default to the C:\Users\Administrator directory, rendering the users' session downloads inaccessible from elsewhere in their Windows profile, and not allowing them to access their own IE favorites while running IE as the administrator user.

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Automate reset of a users Internet Explorer Settings - Script?

$

0

We are in the process of rolling out IE9 on Win 7 x64 PC’s. This is going fine, however we have noticed issues that requires a complete reset of the IE settings and user files. What we need at this point after IE9 installs is to have an automated way to:

  1. Under ‘Reset Internet Explorer Settings’ do this.
  2. Delete all of the users IE cached/temp files under their App Data folder.
  3.  Back in Internet Properties, do a ‘Restore Advanced Settings.’

Looking online, there is no GPO option for this. We cannot do this on 1500+ pcs manually.  I tried looking online for scripts, but nothing could be found to meet our needs. Whatever script we can find, we would probably use SCCM so the script could run with admin rights.

Anyone experience something like the above? What was your solution or do you have a link with solid documentation on how to resolve.

Unable to view SSL certificate in IE11

Hi,

I'm feeling really dumb but I can't figure out how to view the details of an SSL certificate in IE11.

On previous version of IE you would simply click on the padlock that appears in the address bar and then select view certificate. On IE11 the padlock does not appear. The particular problem I'm having is that I'm trying to diagnose why Windows 8.1 with IE11 is rejecting a perfectly valid cert. All I get is a screen telling me that there is a problem with the certificate (it says that the cert is revoked) but no details and I can't figure out how to view the details.

IE currently selected printer name

In IE, before printing any document we can select a printer which is not a default printer and print any web page. Where does this information stored? When user prints any document that is opened in IE, I want to capture the printer name that is selected. I am fine even to create an ActiveX control to retrieve that information. Appreciate your early response.

IE 10 problem with .tr5 file extension

$

I am having a problem with IE 10 attempting to open a link in a webpage, where it links to a file with extension .tr5. I have found out that his happens even when I create a simple html file and have the link to the file in there, so for example I use this html file:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<body>

<a href="http://xxx.xxx.xxx/__data/assets/file/0006/1104/Corporate-Organisation-and-Management-Communications-Organisational-Charts-Headquarters-HQ.tr5">
This is a link</a>

</body>
</html>

What happens is that this link is always opening inside IE and I see the contents of this .tr5 file as text, where as I used to see the download prompt on IE 8, and I still see the download prompt on IE 10 through compatibility mode. Interestingly firefox also has the problem where it is opening the content of .tr5 file in the browser itself as text.

The .tr5 file extension itself is set to open with TrimDesktop.exe which is expected, and .tr5 files do open with the correct program. Also, if I were to right click the link to a tr5 file inside IE 10 and choose "save target as", I am allowed to download the file.

As an experiment, I altered the a href link above to point to a new file I made with .xxx extension, and this time I was prompted to download. So it appears that IE10 and firefox are deliberately trying to open these tr5 files within themselves.

IE10 wont allow me to open FTP files in Explorer View

$

I have an FTP internally that is used to host PDF & HTML files. Previously all users could log onto this FTP site and double click on any file content to have it open within the default browser. We use FTP in explorer view so each user can set their terminals to save their passwords, hence they log straight into their root folder on the FTP - if we use the FTP list view in the browser this doesnt happen, meaning user 9999 has a long way to scroll to find their documents!
This has always worked absolutely fine until IE10 has been installed, now any user with IE10 cant open files straight from the FTP via the Explorer view. The file doesnt download, the destination file ends up at 0KB so just doesnt open in the browser. Roll back to IE9 fixes the problem. Using Chrome as the default browser fixes the problem. Using the FTP list view also works fine (however we cant use this since it wont default to users root folder that they have access to)
Ive attempted everything i can think of without luck, its looking like we're going to have to block IE10 or switch to Chrome. Basically opening files from any FTP site (have tested others) in explorer view with IE10 installed just isnt working. You can however copy the document to the local machine then open ok..
Any ideas, what am i missing here!?
Cheers!!!

Release date of IE 11 'Enterprise Mode' (EmIE)?

I read announcements (e.g. http://www.zdnet.com/internet-explorer-11-to-get-new-enterprise-mode-7000025842/)  that IE 11 shall be equipped with a so-called 'Enterprise Mode' (EMIE) as a new feature. EMIE will allow businesses to specify which sites should be loaded in IE8 compatibility mode and which don't need it.

When will this feature be released for Windows 7? Is it possible to get any Early Access-Versions?

Lock Favorties bar from changes in IE11?

I'm trying to deploy Internet Explorer 11 in a Remote Desktop environment for several employees.  How do I lock the Favorites bar so that changes cannot be made?  Even when I select Lock, changes can be made, items deleted, added, etc. by normal users.  There does not seem to be a GPO for this.  Does anyone have any idea to simply make the favorites bar fixed and unchangeable by normal users?  This is under Windows Server 2012 R2.

Internet Explorer 11 won't set cookies on a site

For some reason IE11 (only IE11, tested with other IE9 and IE10) won't create a session on a site i've been working on. So this means that a basic functionality such as site login won't work.

On other browsers this is working perfectly. The site URL is http://www.tc.mk (also http://www.tc.com.mk)

I researched a bit and found out that IE won't work with domains with underscore.. but my domain doesn't have one so what could be the problem?

Thanks!

PS: Not sure if this is the place to be asking this so sorry if i made a mistake.

IE 11 popup windows crashing

$

Hi,

We're experiencing issues with users new machines with IE11.  When a user clicks a link within our internal web application, which is designed to open a new window, it will open the window as expected, but occasionally it will open, and then animate closed as if it has been minimised.  The window will appear in the task bar at the bottom, and an image will be there which is an accurate representation of what the window should look like, but the window can't be opened.  Hovering over the window will put focus back to it, but there is just a white screen, with a spinning wheel in the middle of it.

All other IE tabs/windows that are open then become unstable.  The titles on tabs disappear, and the address bar turns black!  the only way to get IE abck running normally is to close all instances of IE that are open.

As I said this is only happening sometimes, for some users.  Usually (weirdly!) after 4-5 hrs of normal issue free working.

The window is being opened via a normal javascript window.open(), so nothing too taxing there!

Has anyone experienced this or anything like this??  This is only happening with IE11 and the machines are brand new

TIA

Tony
