Akamai or other Download Manager for Technet?

$

Greetings,

The Akamai downloader had been working fine in IE9(?) in Win 7 for several months.  The Pause and Resume features had been increasing the success rates of my downloads.

I recently upgraded to IE 11.

I also recently installed MS EMET security app.

When I downloaded an ISO today Akamai was not used for some reason.  The 3 hour download crapped out with less than 10 min remaining!

I reset IE defaults and restarted IE.  When I attempted to download the ISO again, I was not prompted to install Akamai.

Is there some way to reinstall Akamai downloader or another similar app with a pause/resume feature?

Joe

Unable to download content

Hi

I have an issue where I am unable to download files using Internet Explorer 11 on a Windows Server 2008 machine.

Specifically, I am trying to download the Dell OpenManage software from Dell's site onto the server

I understand that this is to help enhance the security of the server, but in this case it is actually hindering my work because I am unable to figure out how to enable downloads, download the content I need, then revert the changes so that the original settings are in place again.

I have tried changing the settings in the custom level in the Internet Zone on the Security tab. I have enabled file downloads, and under Miscellaneous have made sure that 'Launching applications and unsafe files' and 'Launching programs and files in an IFRAME' were set to Prompt. I have also disabled Protected Mode.

Even with these settings I am unable to download content.

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong, please?

I am accessing the server remotely. If I was in their office I would simply log onto a client, download the software and copy it to the server before logging onto the server and launching it. However, as I am not there I can't do this.

Thanks!

IE11 hangs on startup even with all add-ons disabled

Hi,

I'm working at Taipie Veterans General Hospital, where all workstations are not allowed to upgrade  to IE11 because of system crash and incompatibity issues.

My personal laptop (Windows 7 64-bit), however, was upgraded to IE11 about three days ago.   IE11 run well initially but hangs on startup in the second day of upgrade.   I was able to start the IE11 using the safe mode without any add-ons.   So I  disables on all add-ons in the options and then tried to re-start the IE11 in normal mode.  It just hanged on starup with blank menu bar even though I had already disabled all add-ons.

There was no log of error in the eventvwr.

I searched for possible solutions over the net and tried the following steps without success:

  1. Clear all the cache and temporary files.
  2. Disable protected mode in the security tab of internet option

Please help, thanks in advance.

I think I might have to revert to and stay put with IE10, just like my Hopstial did.

No HTML5 video in IE11 on Server 2012 R2

I cannot seem to get HTML5 video working in IE11 on Server 2012 R2, in RDSH mode (Remote Desktop Session Host).

I have the Desktop Experience feature installed, and have tried adding the sites (e.g. youtube, vimeo) to trusted sites and cranked the security down to the lowest (medium-low) for trusted sites but nothing. I don't really want to have to use trusted sites anyway...

On YouTube I am getting the HTML5 right-click menu over the video area, but no video plays - just a buffering symbol spinning and then a black area where the video should be.

I tried changing the user agent to IE10 via the F12 tools, but no change.

I ran the suite of tests from peacekeeper.futuremark.com and most of the stuff worked, e.g. all the animations, but none of the video, especially videoCodecH264 showed as N/A.

www.w3.org/2010/05/video/mediaevents.html is giving "unknown error" in the video playback window.

I can make YouTube work by adding it to compatibility view, where it then drops back to using Flash player. This does not work for Vimeo.

I have minimal policy settings set on these servers at the moment.

Any suggestions would be most welcome, thanks in advance.

When opening a new tab, IE9 opens a blank page, not the new tab page

I change my settings to open a the new tab page when I open a new tab. This works for one boot of Windows. Second boot, the settings have magically changed back to opening a blank page.

It worked to start with. I only just reinstalled Windows on this computer. Then a few days ago I didn't get my most recent sites when I opened a tab. Changed the settings. Next boot. They had reset.

It seems as if the settings do not save. I had this problem on my older computer as well. Never found a fix.

To clear up misunderstandings (there are some similar posts), when I select a link to open in a new tab, it always works.

IE 11 keeps crashing

I have noticed that websites (and it appears to be pages with Java and/or with Flash) that Internet Explorer crashes. It is horrible that when I visit normal sites such as Yahoo.com, MSN.com, etc. the browser just crashes. I have done the Reset under Internet Options --> Advanced tab and that did not fix it. I did the GPU option under the Advanced tab. Again, didn't fix it. I uninstalled Flash Player and Java and then reinstalled them both. It still didn't fix the problem. I'd hate to have no plugins or anything just to use IE and when I visit sites I cannot use them because I have no plugins. IthinkI have it narrowed down to Java is running on the page.

I have Windows 7 - 64bit with latest updates and SP and IE 11.

IE10 There is a problem with this website's security certificate.

I have seen lots of posts but no answers.

I have Windows 8 Pro RTM installed from MSDN. I am running IE10 and I go to my Linksys router and get the usual certificate error. In all previous versions of IE, you could just click continue and move forward. IE10 does not all this, please let me know where this setting is so I can use IE10, I hope I am not forced to use Chrome. Also there is no option to run as IE9 for some reason.

...except selection "Internal Install" doesn't actually offer any chance to specify updating behavior or MSRT behavior. Bugged?

Internet Explorer's browser history links are saved with incorrect addresses

$

To be more specific, my previously visited webpages get saved to my browser history with an additional set of characters at the front/beginning of every address rendering the links useless (besides using the links as a reference and then manually typing the address out.....)

The additional characters that get added to the address appear to be a fraction of my Windows User Account Name with an added "@" symbol between it and the correct link address. For example if my user account name was "Rupert" all of my browser history links would start with "ert@". A full link address in my browser history might look something like this as a result "ert@http://www.bing.com/". This causes an "Windows cannot find" error popup message instantly when I attempted to click any links in my browser history log. Any way to fix this would be nice.

PS - I have had this problem for many years on different machines (but not all) with both vista and win7 (32 and 64 bit). I believe it started back in IE8 or IE9 and remains still to this day in the most recent IE11 update.

IE 10 in Captured OSD WIM will not launch on certain platforms

All,

I've been fighting this issue for a couple of months now. I have an active case that I've opened with Microsoft recently that I am still working on them with.

For some background, I have a Windows 7 SP1 OS WIM that was built and captured via SCCM on a VMWare platform. It includes all patches up through February 2014. This also includes Internet Explorer 10 via the WSUS update. We are NOT installing IE 11.

The build and capture sequence finishes without error and I've imported the OS WIM into SCCM for deploying.

This is where issues start on some of our systems.

We support about 35 models. On certain models, Internet Explorer 10 will not launch. In addition, we get the dllhost.exe memory leak issue (where it keeps spawning a process). The ONLY common thread I can determine is that they have a discrete nVidia GPU.

The models are as follows:

HP EliteBook 8770w - Quadro K5000M
HP ZBook 17 - Quadro K4100M
HP Z600 - Quadro 5000
HP Z820 - Quadro 6000
Dell Precision R7610 - Quadro NVS310

Each one of these systems, as stated, complete the imaging process fine and everything else appear to be running without issue. I've even cut the driver package back to only including a network and storage driver and the issue STILL happens.

Has anyone else seen or experienced this issue and have a solution? I've had some success with uninstalling the KB2670838, rebooting, reinstalling KB2670838 and then reinstalling IE 10. After doing that, it appears to function properly.

IE11 Problem with Windows 8.1 and IIS 8.5

I have upgraded my computer from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, 64bit and IIS 8.5 is installed on the upgraded machine. I am unable to view with IE11 the default page of the default website  hosted on the local machine. The problem occurs with both the desktop version of IE11 and the Windows 8 metro style version.

When Chrome is installed on the machine the page is visible but when using IE11 a "This page can't be displayed" message appears. The IIS Log Files reveal that it is receiving nothing from IE11. Other machines I have that have also been upgraded to Windows 8.1 exhibit the same fault.

The strange thing is that when viewing pages on other networked machines exhibiting the same problem, you can see the pages on the remote machines but in all instances the local page cannot be viewed.

It appears that there is a problem with IE11. Uninstalling and reinstalling IE11 does not fix the problem.

Can anyone help me? Assitance with this problem would be most appreciated.

I have a new Lenovo laptop and Internet Explorer 11 does not work. Lenovo said the software is corrupted. They will not correct without payment. I cannot fix anything as I have learned that I am not the administrator so I have no idea who is the administrator of my computer.

My computer is useless. It took over an hour just trying to get to this page to ask the question, How can I fix this software? The computer is less than 2 months old and has never functioned correctly. Lenovo has refused to assist in any manner.

IE 11: Javascript files are not loaded correctly from cache?

$

Since installing Windows 8.1, I have been experiencing issues with script loading in IE 11: When the server responds with "304 Not Modified" in response to a script request, bad things happen. Specifically, I encounter script errors that would normally be caused by a missing script reference or having references in the wrong order (e.g. "Unable to get property 'foo' of undefined or null reference"). Doing a force-refresh (i.e. Ctrl+F5) corrects the issue until the next page load.

Based on what I see in the IE 11 developer tools, it looks like the scripts are loaded correctly. I can open them in the Debugger view and the content appears to be correct. Perhaps IE is just not loading them in the correct order in this scenario?

I noticed this problem myself and then someone else (who has also recently installed Windows 8.1) informed me that it appears he is experiencing exactly the same issue on a different site.
