End of support on IE8 on Windows 7

$

Hi,

as the end of the support of IE8 and Windows XP is announced for April 8 2014, does this mean that the support of IE8 on Windows 7 will end on the same date?

Windows 7 shipped with IE8, as of what I have read the end of the support of a Microsoft browser ends with his parent : What is the parent of IE8, Windows XP or Windows 7?

Thanks

Remote Desktop Web Services Broken in Internet Explorer 10 - No Icons

This issue is only effecting IE 10.  My TS WEB setup functions perfectly in IE 9.  After upgrading to IE 10 when I connect to my RD WEB page, none of my apps show any icon at all.  If I click the compatibility mode button at the top of the browser, the icons appear and everything is normal.

IE11 does not work

Upgraded my PC from 8 to 8.1, now I'm using IE11, but I can't use IE at all.

After I open IE, I can type an address in the address bar but nothing happens when I hit enter. Likewise when I select the COG icon to open tools, all the options are greyed out and I dont even have the option to select Internet Options. I can't even open a GIF or html file in IE now, the browser just stays blank.

This is really frustrating and I haven't been able to find an answer for this myself, I'm hoping someone here has encountered this before. My computer doesn't have any viruses or malware of any type.

Many Thanks

Cannot Load IE After Installation

When I "successfully" download and install IE (version doesn't seem to matter), I am unable to find any IE version in my installed programs list (I use Windows7 Home Edition, 64-bit version). Therefore, I cannot uninstall IE before reinstalling it. In addition, when I try installing the various IE versions (9, 10 or 11), I receive a message that a particular version is already installed. As I said, I do not see any IE version installed in the program list, so I cannot uninstall it.

Can anyone offer a simple, straight-forward solution? I've tried everything and I'm ready to throw in the towel and rely on Firefox.

How does internet explorer decide to warn runing ActiveX on an HTML web page from CD drive vs USB memory stick

Hi,

We have a USB memory stick that contains  HTML files that has java powered menus, hyperlinks to products pages in PDF.

When  I launch "index.html" from the USB, I get warning about "Internet explorer restricted this page running ActiveX.."

I copy the content and burn a CD, then launch it from the CD, no "ActiveX" warning.

Opening the same index.html from a network drive does not prompt for ActiveX warning also

What am I missing here, does windows or internet explorer (by design) do not like to run web pages running from local hard drives or removable devices?

Second issue is when viewing/printing a Project Profile - Short Form, the text fields are shrink, they are not displayed full high to show all the text. It was working with IE9, IE10, but now IE10 and IE11 dont work.

Why Is the Outlook Mail Website Unstable in Internet Explorer 9 and 10?

I had to reset my Internet Explorer 9 browser on Windows Vista and my Internet Explorer 10 browser on Windows 7 the other day and now I can no longer view the Outlook Mail Website or the Outlook Calendar website, etc. They keep making the browsers close. I've had this problem before, but I can't remember how I fixed things. Can someone please help me out? I can view these web pages in the Google Chrome browser for time being.

IE9: Changing the default download option from 'save' to 'save as'

While I have sent feedback into Microsoft, I thought I might post here aswell.

In IE9 when you click a download, a pop-up from the bottom asks 'Do you want to open or save file.xxx from x.com' then gives you the option to 'Open' 'Save' or 'Cancel'

During testing, we found that users would just click 'Save' then not know where the file they downloaded went. After explaining that it was in the downloads, they complained that previously they just chose where to save the file and it saved there. Now they have to open downloads and copy paste to the location.

We could teach the users to always drop down and select 'Save as' but I can tell you it would be a lot easier if there was a group policy, or a default we can change so the default was 'Save as'

Other than that, I have no complaints :D.

How to restore "Always ignore" selection pressed on Low IL compat / EPM mode question in IE10 on Windows 7 x64?

How to restore "Always ignore" selection pressed on Low IL compat mode / EPM question in IE10 on Windows 7 x64?

In a previous question I asked where the Whitelist is and how to modify it but now I have clients that seem to gotten stuck after pressing "Always ignore" and then the question to run outside EPM does not come up anymore and also the Whitelist stops working.

I need to get the "Question" back so the user can select to disable EPM on a per site basis (and to re-enable the Whitelist already set by login script).

SSRS Report Viewer display issues after KB2888505 and now KB2898785

After patch KB2888505 both IE 9 and IE 10 started displaying cropped images with horizontal scroll bars when viewing SSRS Reports.  These reports functioned and fit the screen without scroll bars prior to this patch and returns to normal once the patch is uninstalled.  There is no compatibility mode icon in the address bar and I have tried all browser modes in the F12 Developer Tools Menu with no change.  Rolling back KB2888505 was a temp fix for my users until KB2898785 was installed reverting back to the same cropped reports with the scroll bar.  The only versions of IE in my environment are 9 and 10 and upgrading to 11 is not an option at this time.  Others have reported this same issue so maybe we can get more visibility on TechNet.

How to set Compatibility Mode for a single site in ie10

This question was originally posted on the Answers forum - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie10-windows_7/how-to-set-compatibility-mode-for-a-single-site-in/187152e3-142a-4d96-8d1b-af82ef571eec

I am having problem with getting ie10 to set ie9 compatibility for a single site (sharepoint.contoso.com).

When I add this website in Compatibility View Settings (Alt > Tools > Compatibility View Settings > 'Add this Website') it adds the domain 'contoso.com' and not the individual website (sharepoint.contoso.com).

This cause other sites (www.contoso.com) to be configured to use compatibility mode. Because this is a separate site (different web server) to the site sharepoint.contoso.com (sharepoint 2010 server) we need different compatibility settings.

Using a different example to explain the issue -

Microsoft has three websites that are different websites created by different developers written in different programming languages and they only work with certain browsers.

  • microsoft.com (Website1 created by Developer1) - compatible with ie8/ie9/ie10
  • msdn.microsoft.com (Website2 created by Developer2) - compatible with ie8/ie9
  • technet.microsoft.com (Website3 website created by Developer3) - compatible only with ie10

The only thing the three website share is the URL contains 'microsoft.com'.

Marking 'msdn.microsoft.com' to run in compatibility mode affects the other 2 websites - mainly technet.microsoft.com which will not work now since it only runs in pure ie10 mode.

Should you be able to add an individual site to the compatibility list instead of all sites that have  .microsoft.com in the URL? Am I missing a simple setting in the ie10?

As a workaround I am using the F12 Developer Tools to set the Browser Mode which temporary sets the compatibility mode. However this is not a nice solution to the end users at our organisation.

Internet Explorer display blank page

Hi all,

I have IE10 x64 and Win 7 x64 + SP1, but my IE cannot open any page. I mean, when I type any URL in IE, loads and then display an blank page to me. The title is blank, the page is blank. All the other application that use a embedded explorer control also displays nothing.

  • Click settings icon: The "About Internet Explorer" is gray. Many other menus are gray (such as "Print" and "Save as").
  • Right click on the blank page,  no context menu displayed.
  • Tried to run IE without extension, the issue.
  • disabled GPU rendering won't fix the issue.
  • uninstall then re-install won't fix the issue.
  • run "sfc /scannow", say nothing goes wrong.
  • Google chrome works properly.

UPDATE:

Press alt to call out menu bars, most of the menu items doesn't work, except those in the View menu. (View source doesn't work, either.)

ENVIRONMENT:

IE version: 10.0.9200

Windows 7 (6.1 build 7601 Service Pack 1)

Display Card: nVidia GTS 450

Blank page

UPDATE: Uninstalled IE 10, IE 9 still displaying blank pages. It might be something wrong with the system. Ho can tell me how to fix?

UPDATE2: Do iediagcmd.exe then regsvr32 on some dlls, then re-install IE 10, now menus are recovered, local files can be properly displayed on IE if launched with. But if I start IE then tried to load pages, not working; loading a remote HTML page is still broken.

UPDATE3: IE 11 still not working.

UPDATE4:

A new upgrade install of Windows 7 (with SP1) solves this issue. There might be registry error.

I have tried every single one of the suggestions offered and none work.

IE is blank and that cause me serious problems for access to important web sites.

There must be a way that this problem can be handled without me becoming a Microsoft engineer?

Registry keys for the per-machine proxy settings

Hello,

I'm writing a C++ software that's supposed to set proxy settings for all users. I succeeded at disabling the per-user-proxy-settings through the COM Group Policy objects but I cannot find where to define the machine-wide proxy settings. The most logical answer was to modify the values under the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings but IE seems to be ignoring them. Any ideas as how to set the proxy settings in this case ?

IE 11 comes with Windows 8.1 today is 10.09.2013 and IE 11 is not ready for prime time, it's slow, crashes, slow, non-responsive, slow, sends error logs...blah blah blah.  Now here's the bad news, you cannot load any other IE browser on Windows 8.1.

The good news, Chrome works flawlessly on Windows 8.1

IE11 (desktop), Win8.1: Java not working / compatible since update!

$

Hi there,

Prior to the 8.1 update I was able to run java fine on the desktop IE10.  For work this is essential, as I access dropbox to upload files, etc.  I'd much rather keep using IE, however since 8.1 I get an alert that some of my add-ons are not compatible with the new enhanced security features, etc.

I turned off "Enhanced Protected Mode", toggled various settings, uninstalled/reinstalled latest java, etc.  Still nothing working.  I'd rather not get a new browser as I love IE... any solutions?

I'm running a 64bit OS & processor, high-end machine.

Many, many thanks!

Document modes deprecation

$

Hello,

I am trying to understand the full extent of the impact of the deprecation of Document modes based on this post.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/dn384051%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

Our product leverages quirks mode in certain areas. With these deprecations does that mean that with IE12 those components that remain in Quirks Mode will simply not work, or they will be rendered in correctly?

I am trying to get an understanding of the potential scope of the issue in order to allow time to resolve the issue before the issue is forced.

Thank you

Web Page displayed as a missing picture

Hi there,   I have an issue I have not come across before, and was wondering if anyone had some ideas on what to check or how to resolve this issue.

I have a client, when he clicks on a link in an email, IE opens up, and only gets a small red X in the corner,  very reminiscent of what you see when a picture does not load correctly.   Other links in the SAME email work correctly, and the web page comes up.

When the client is browsing, a link in a web page may bring up the same issue.

When the client forwarded the email to me,  the link worked correctly, and displayed in my IE just fine. When the client forwarded the email on to someone is the same office, the link worked correctly, and displayed in IE just fine. It is only on one computer in the network this issue is seen.

IE was 11, uninstalled that and brought it back to 10, no changes.

Put IE back to defaults, both in 11 and in 10, no changes.

I can start clicking on items to change, but do not feel this is the best way to move forward.

Thank you for any assistance,  I do appreciate all the help.
