IE11 Incorrect downloading prompt - can't download

$

I have approximately 3 end users who receive the pop up window when downloading. The issue is, nothing happens when they click any of the options.  "Open" and "Save" simply get rid of the prompt, and "Save As" opens a dialog box to browse to a spot to save, but it does not save.  It isn't a Windows group or a group policy otherwise we'd have more than a handful of users with the issue. Firefox is an alright workaround but we use IE11 in our environment so it's not a permanent option.

How do I rid my users of this pop-up and have them always receive the orange ribbon at the bottom of their screen?

Internet Explorer Can not Open Files

Hello all,

I have an issue with a client that tries opening/ saving a document in IE 11,

This has happened two days in a row now, where everything is working normally, and then all of a sudden, when he tries opening, tries saving, or saving as, nothing happens anymore. It just blocks.

After killing the process through task manager, Everything works normally again, until the next time the error happens again,

Is there a way to debug this? some useful logs, or event viewer logs that can be activated on Windows 10 / IE 11 ?

Is there maybe a KB that needs to be installed, could it be cause by a recent KB installation?

How should i proceed on this issue?

Thanks

Stefan

Can we import the certificate for All Users? How?

Thanks in advance.

Enable TLS 1.1/1.2 in windows

In our project, we are using XML RPC client that is based on wininet. The proxy server in our project allows only TLS 1.2 requests.

When we tested with windows 7, we found that the proxy is not allowing the requests from XML RPC client. The XML RPC client is not using TLS v1,2. After following the steps in the below link, then XML RPC client is able to communicate with out any problem.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/kb/3140245

One of the steps mentioned in the above link is: Add "DefaultSecureProtocols" key in registry and set the value to0x00000A00(to enable TLS v1.1/1.2)

The browser installed in that PC is IE8.

We also tested in another windows 7 PC where IE 11 is installed. In this PC,  the XML RPC communication works even without adding "DefaultSecureProtocols" key in registry.

Do we need to add  "DefaultSecureProtocols" key in registry if IE11 is not installed?

How wininet is able to use TLSv1.2 when IE 11 is installed but failed when IE8 is installed?

IE11 crashes when started from Visual Studio

I upgraded to Windows 10 and when I debug my websites from Visual Studio using IE 11, IE just closes. All I can see is in VS's Output [Debug] Window is:
The program '[984] iexplore.exe' has exited with code -1073741790 (0xc0000022).
The program '[6600] w3wp.exe' has exited with code 0 (0x0).

These lines are after successfully loading several assemblies.

I was using VS 2013. I uninstalled 2013, cleaned everything up and installed VS 2015 and I'm still having the same issue.

If I use Edge, Chrome, FireFox or Safari everything works from VS. If I start IE using Ctrl+F5 it works. It's only when I choose to debug with IE it fails.

It fails whether or not the website is hosted by IIS or IIS Express.

IE has better integration so I prefer to use it for general debugging. How do I fix this?

I've disabled all add-ons, reset Security to default, and reset all my setting in IE to default.  I've uninstall IE and reinstalled it. I performed a Repair on VS.  Made sure to have all the latest Windows Update.  No good on any of this and I can't figure out how to get more info on why it's failing.  There is nothing in the Event Log and I also enabled CrashDumps and no files show up for this issue.  I ran ProcessMonitor and nothing stands out as the issue there either.

I created a new blank web project and added one web form to it with text to test with.  No JavaScript or anything and IE11 fails to load when running in debug mode from VS.

IE has better integration with VS so I prefer to use it for general debugging. How do I fix this?

What's the difference between Internet Explorer version 11.0.9600.18282 and version 11.0.9600.18426? I'm managing a project where the developers are using the first version and are unable to see or replicate a problem that the users are experiencing with the second version. Could the slight difference in versions be the cause for the discrepancy? Is it possible to use the exact same versions?

    http.open("GET", file + ".php?" + pars, bg);
    if (bg) {

}</script>

Why edge doesn't support Single sign-on if website is hosted on localhost?!

The asp.net website is configured to use Integrated Windows Authentication and hosted locally on IIS\localhost.
When I try to access this website the windows authentication pop-up appears.
Moreover no chance to remember my credentials. If I restart Edge and open this website than authentication form appears again.
At IE and Chrome the user is automatically authenticated without any windows authentication form, no issue.

In addition to that I played with "Internet Options\Local Intranet" and "Internet Options\Trusted sites" and "Logon options" ("Automatically logon only on Intranet zone", "Automatically logon with current user name and password". Nothing helped.

Any ideas how to suppress this annoying authentication dialog?

"Page can't be Displayed"

I am not an IT guy so please forgive me if I don't use proper terminology.

We have a fuel pump that I need to access to get mileages off of. It only works with IE. I log into it with an IP address. It worked fine not long ago and then something updated and it started giving me "Page can't be Displayed".

I have completely reset IE. I've tried adding to trusted sites. I've lowered all security settings. The person I spoke with at the company that designed the pump software had me update Adobe and Silverlight which neither helped. I've tried everything I can think of to get it to come up.

I can ping the IP address and that works fine. I can also access it with google chrome. I can't however do anything with chrome because its designed for IE. I was also was able to access it from a windows 7 computer we had here until someone updated it and I lost access on that as well.

I'm guessing there just some stupid setting that enabled during a recent patch.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Internet Explorer cannot open url in local Windows network share

Windows Server 2012 R2 as a domain controller

Internet Explorer 11 64/32

Favorites are redirected to a Windows network share (on the server itself)

Issue: When clicking a favourite redirected to the Windows network share, IE does nothing.

For testing purpose,

  • I double click a .url file in redirected Favorites (e.g. \\domain_controller\profiles\username\Favorites\website.url), IE opens with a blank page.
  • If the .url file is placed at local drive or a Samba share (e.g. in a Synology box, probably it does not really matter as long as it is a network share residing in another computer), IE works fine.
  • The issue applies to every one (probably except Administrator) logged on the domain controller.
  • I tried reset IE.  It did not work.
  • Favourites redirection works on Windows 8.1 client computers in the domain.
  • Pinned Site Shortcut (.website) file works everywhere
  • When Enable Protected Mode in Internet Options\Security\Internet is disabled, IE can open .url file in a Windows network share.  But it is probably not a good idea to permanently disable it.

Any suggestion on fixing the issue?  Thank you.

How to save IE11 settings (NOT fav+cookies but current preferences)?

How can I export(+import) the current settings of IntExp 11 (from Win 7)?

I am NOT talking about the Favorites and Cookies! I am talking about the preferences visible in menu

Tools--->Internet Options
and
page setup parameter

I guess they are stored in Registry.

Is it only ONE Registry branch or are they spread all over the Registry?

How can I backup and restore them?

IE11 crashes when trying to open PDF's in the browser after patch KB3160005 installed

$

We have a mission critical program that now crashes because of the patch KB3160005 that was uploaded to all of our Windows 7 Professional computers on 6/14/16. When the employee tries to open a PDF in this program, IE11 hangs and the PDF will not open either. IE11 must be shutdown. Our work around is to remove KB3160005 and then check for the updates and when it appears to hide it and this fixes the problem.

This update is shown to be critical according to TechNet and so I would like to know which one of the 5 patches incorporated into the patch is actually causing the problem and what we can do to fix it and not lose the update by removing it.

Windows 10 Professional will sometime exhibit the same issues with the same mission critical program, but the patch KB3160005 is not on any of the systems I have looked at, so I have to merely reset the browser and then all is well after that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because this is taking up all of the helpdesk's time resetting this patch and making our employees efficient again.

Thank you,

KB3172605 and internal Self-Signed SHA1 sites on Internet Explorer 11

$

Since installing KB3172605 on our client machines, we can't access the Cisco CM User page for our phone services. The site uses a self-signed SHA-1 certificate.

I found two workarounds.

1. Add the following registry value to lower the bit length from 1024 to 512:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\KeyExchangeAlgorithms\ClientMinKeyBitLength (value data 200)

This is obviously undesirable, because it lowers the security potential for all accessed sites.

2. Add the following registry value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\KeyExchangeAlgorithms\Enabled (value data and key type doesn't seem to matter)

The above was referenced as a work around in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-055. A DWORD with the value of 0 should disable the Diffie-Hellman key exchange. A value of 1 should enable it.

I've learned the value doesn't matter. What is going on here? Is this a bug? What are the adverse effects of this?

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms15-055.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Thanks!

MS16-104 is changing the behavior with launching URL files. Prior to MS16-104, launching a URL file would just open directly into Internet Explorer. Now, I get the following prompt. File association is also correct. Anyway to change the behavior back without uninstalling the patch?
