Switching between multiple Java versions

$

We frequently visit state websites to use their Java based permitting sites and are wondering if it is possible to set IE to switch between which Java version is used. Certain sites require older versions of Java to function, while others require newer ones. We can have both versions installed, however IE seems to use the latest version automatically, so we end up uninstalling it when we need to download a permit on the site that requires the older version.

If there is an easy way to tell IE which version to use, please let us know. Thanks!!

after setting the Mailto function to open in O365 Web portal getting blocked by protected mode

Our end goal is that when someone selects an email link inside of Internet Explorer it goes to either the O365 Outlook login page or presents a composed email fromhttps://outlook.office.com/owa/. We have been able to accomplish these settings using the following command line:

ftype mailto="C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" "https://outlook.office.com/owa/?viewmodel=IMailComposeViewModelFactory&wid=62&ispopout=1&path="

This works 100% of the time when Protection mode is disabled for the Internet zone

When protection mode is enabled we get the prompt

"A website wants to open web content using this program on your computer"

Name: Internet Explorer 11

Publisher: Microsoft Corporation

when I select "Allow" nothing happens and I'm not seeing any corresponding event logs to why this is happening

Looking for how to get past this while still having protection mode enabled

Allow font download in IE 11

Hi Microsoft,

Can you please shed some lights on these two IE11 policies:

Policies in question: The Allow font download and the Security Zone: Do not allow users to change policies.

In Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer> the Security Zone: Do not allow users to change policiesto set to Enabled.

This actually prevent users from being able to change the "Custom Level" in Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Custom Level. Where theCustom Level button is greyed out:

This actually prevent users from being able to download font.

However,

In Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Control Panel > Security Page > Intranet Zone: TheAllow font downloads is set to Enabled

Does these two settings kind of contradicting each other or these two settings are referring to something totally different?

Pop-ups from inPrivate mode opening in the same window

Hello,

At work I need to use a web application that only runs on internet explorer, and doesn't support tabbed browsing, so if I opened a new tab it could log me off, or just not function properly.

One of the features in that application is to display reports of the different tasks and projects in it. The reports are opened in a pop-up window, and it always uses that same window for all the reports.

To override the application's 1 tab restriction, I also open it in an InPrivate browsing window, in addition to the one I have opened in normal mode.

My problem is with viewing the reports in the different modes [normal/inprivate].. I used to be able to view them in separate pop-up windows, one launched in normal browsing mode, and another in inprivate mode. I got a new computer a few months ago, now running Windows7 professional, and IE 11 [version 11.0.9600.18230]. I'm not sure if I had IE10 or IE11 on my old computer. Now when I open the first report, it opens a new pop-up window in the same browsing mode, and when I go to the other browsing mode and open a report from it, it will also be opened in the same pop-up window. I tried to play with IE settings, took screenshots from my old computer and tried to have the same settings, but to no avail.

Sometimes I need to do a visual comparison of a few things between two reports, like seeing if the same project had different statuses in different tasks, and currently I have to take a screenshot of the first report or copy it to Excel and then open the other report.. If I could have two reports open in different windows, it will save me a lot of work and time.

I can't contact the programmer who created the application, and my boss won't authorize minor updates because it could be costly. Does anyone have any idea how I could force IE to differentiate between normal and private sessions, and not open new pop-ups from the different sessions in the same window?

Thanks in advance,

Haneen

Can't get into Microsoft Update Catalog with IE 11 on Windows 10

Trying to download KB3081444.  Only options offered are microsoft.com/downloads, which doesn't have it, and the Microsoft Update Catalog site.

I went there with Edge (I'm running Win 10) but it told me to use IE.  Once at the page, I keep getting told that "this web site wants to add the following add-on: "Microsoft Update Catalog" from "Microsoft Corporation."  (Are there quotes because IE doesn't believe it's really Microsoft?  Or is it just being sarcastic?  Hard to tell sometimes. :-) )

Anyway, I always click "Install," but nothing happens.  F12 offers no help.  Any idea how a fully updated, licensed copy of Windows 10 Enterprise running the latest version of Internet Explorer (with no fancy security settings cranked up) can't load an ActiveX control from Microsoft Corporation while trying to download updates from Microsoft's Update Catalog?

Thanks for any suggestions.

IE 11 always waiting for SharePoint Online

At seemingly random times throughout the day, some of our users will be unable to access OneDrive or SharePoint with IE 11.  It just continuously shows a white screen and "Waiting on <tenant>.sharepoint.com".  I've let it wait for 15 minutes and it never errors.  I can go to Exchange Online fine, but OneDrive and SharePoint both just sit there spinning.  When I click About Me, it also hangs.  This issue only affects IE and the only way I've found to resolve it is by rebooting the computer.  When IE is hanging, Firefox and Chrome successfully open to the site without issues.  Sometimes it happens once a day.  Other days it happens multiple times.

I've done a network trace with the F12 Debugging Tools, and IE never gets past the initial request for the page.  I've tried running "iexplore.exe -extoff" without succcess.  I've tried troubleshooting with Office 365, but they directed me here.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Hello,

For every new user on Windows 2012 R2 remote desktop server the Internet Explorer shortcut icon in Start Menu opens Microsoft Edge browser.

I unpin it from Start Menu, search for "iexplore" and pin in to Start Menu and Taskbar. The icon on the Taskbar opens Internet Explorer, but the icon in Start Menu opens Edge again.

There are no group policies applied to the server.

How do I fix this?

Thanks for your help.

How to avoid/ bypass "File Download Dialoge Box" in IE8?

Is there any way to avoid/ bypass "File Download Dialoge Box" in IE8? Actually I have a website hosted on Windows Server at local intranet having power point slide shows (.ppsx). Clients (having Windows 7 with IE8) accessing those slide shows come across File Download prompt. There is requirement to avoid/ bypass that open/ save file popup. Please guide me to do the needful.

It is pertinent to mention that I had tried all the possible ways available at internet through google/ bing. Those inclues (but not limited to)

- Customising IE Internet Options -> Security Settings

- Adjusting IE Advanced Settings

- Registry Editing

- Group Policy Settings

None of these settings work at all. So please dont waste your time suggesting above stated solutions. This must be something out-of-box solution through breaking the ground.

Waiting to read from someone very genius please.

Hi,

How can we disable the warning message pop-up dialog box that comes up in IE 11 asking us "The web-page you are viewing is trying to close the tab. Do you want to close this tab?"

What IE 11 settings should we change in order to avoid this warning message?

Thanks,

Kiran

KB3172605 and internal Self-Signed SHA1 sites on Internet Explorer 11

$

Since installing KB3172605 on our client machines, we can't access the Cisco CM User page for our phone services. The site uses a self-signed SHA-1 certificate.

I found two workarounds.

1. Add the following registry value to lower the bit length from 1024 to 512:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\KeyExchangeAlgorithms\ClientMinKeyBitLength (value data 200)

This is obviously undesirable, because it lowers the security potential for all accessed sites.

2. Add the following registry value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\KeyExchangeAlgorithms\Enabled (value data and key type doesn't seem to matter)

The above was referenced as a work around in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-055. A DWORD with the value of 0 should disable the Diffie-Hellman key exchange. A value of 1 should enable it.

I've learned the value doesn't matter. What is going on here? Is this a bug? What are the adverse effects of this?

Insert O365 video doesn't work in IE11??

I'm starting to have a lot of problems with IE11 and O365... time for an update???  The latest one, and the most critical, is that I'm trying to insert or embed an O365 video from the video portal, and it isn't visible in IE11. Works great in Chrome, but we just went through a long battle to get everyone to use IE11 as their default browser.  Now I feel like we have to tell them to use Chrome AGAIN, which isn't going to go over well. A couple of days ago, I was having problems with the new list interface, adding text to a rich text field and the ribbon disappeared... again, works great in Chrome. IE11 definitely has bugs !

Apparently you either do not plan to add the menu tool to Edge or you do not care?   The lack of the menu is another barrier to my trying to use it.  Why not just keep us happy and we will attempt to delve into it.  Just my opinions. You make it so difficult for us to communicate with you!!!

Edge Browser Security vs IE's EMET

$

The Edge browser's security capabilities are touted as being so advanced as to not need to incorporate EMET.

Does Edge currently (or will it) offer the same Certificate Pinning capability (aka Certificate Reputation / SmartScreen) that EMET currently offers?

Will EMET be supported in IE11 (and future versions of IE, if IE continues to exist)?
