Internet Explorer not using PAC File

$
0
0

Hi All,

We've recently had an issue for a few users where Internet Explorer isn't using the PAC file correctly. It shows as being configured correctly, Chrome is setup to use system proxy settings & works correctly with the PAC file.

Watching network traffic via ProcMon shows that IE does infact go to the server hosting the PAC file first, but then proceeds to try browsing directly to the internet rather than via the correct Proxy server.

  • Have confirmed that pasting the PAC file location into the address bar downloads the file (although it has an _ instead of . in the filename... is that a clue?)
  • Same issue occurs when running IE as another user (right click/run as other user)
  • Have cleared IE Temp Files
  • Removed the PAC configuration, restarted IE & reset the PAC location
  • Restarted WinHTTP Autoconfig service (I believe this is moreso for WPAD, though have seen it help in the past)
  • Setting the proxy server manually works, its just when trying to use the PAC file that is a problem

Where should I be looking next? I'm at a loss...

Cheers
Jason

IE 11 update KB3049563 (replaced KB3038314 from April) breaks SSRS 2008R2 parameters

$

We're using IE 11 on Windows 7 and Reporting Services 2008R2;  both KB3038314 from last month and the replacement KB3049563 for IE11 released yesterday cause SSRS parameters to run abysmally slowly if one of the parameters presents the user a long pick-list and allow multi-select.

If the number of values in the param list are decreased (say, less than 500), or if only a single value is allowed to be selected from the list, the param selection behaves normally.  But if there's a long multi-select picklist in the params (delay appears proportional to the number of choices in the list), it takes several minutes for the pick list to become active.  In the meantime, the entire parameter pane is disabled, causing most users to believe the report is frozen and they abort.

Neither Chrome nor Firefox exhibit this behavior for the same report on the same report server.  Behavior is normal when the report is run in the Visual Studio development environment.  The undesirable behavior is specific to IE 11 (no idea whether earlier versions of IE might be affected).  Removal of the patch on the client workstation restores normal behavior.

This is a serious problem in our environment, and the problem seems to be under-reported.  Is anyone at Microsoft actively investigating this issue and working on a resolution?

Is there a memory limit in IE11?

We would like to know if there is some property that defines a maximum memory limit in IE11. If so, can we modify this property or somehow tell IE to use more memory?

Thanks

Compatibility View In IE 11 Won't Differentiate Two Separate Web Addresses from Same Server

$

Hello IE Community:

I am an IT Project Manager and implementing two hosted software applications for our Community Development Department. One application syncs with the other. Both are on the same server with the same domain but with different threads.

The problem is that one application requires Compatibility View in IE 11, but the other does not. And since CV won't differentiate two separate addresses from the same server (it always defaults to just the domain), the setting confuses the second application into believing that it too, is set up with CV. The result is one malfunctioning application. Turn CV completely off, and the other application won't function properly.

Why won't the CV dialog differentiate two separate web addresses from the same server???

We are going live in a week and any help or solutions would be very much appreciated.

Thank You,

Glisse.

Use pop-up blocker and Turn on Pop-up Blocker

Hello,

Can someone clarify how the settings "Use pop-up blocker" and "Turn on Pop-up Blocker" work together ?

Will the pop-up blocker be active if I enable "use pop-up blocker" in a security zone and uncheck Turn on pop-up blocker in privacy settings ?

Is there a way to ignore just a specific site's font sizes?

$

Hey,

I need to use a site where the text font is tiny.

IE'S zoom in/out doesn't work, also the site doesn't let the user set the font size. the only work around I found is:

IN IE11 -> Accessibility -> Check "Ignore font sizes specified on webpages"

Only thing is - imposing a font size on certain websites make them less readable, surely you'd agree.

I was wondering if I can ignore just that site's font sizes, or maybe.. can I create two IE's settings and toggle between them when launching IE?

So to summarize: what I'm trying to achieve is ignoring just one site's font sizes, while respecting other sites' font sizes..any way or hint in the right direction would be appreciated..!

I am facing an issue with WMP object video playing in IE11.

Same video is playing well in IE10.

System configuration is as below:

OS: Windows 7 ultimate SP1
IE : 11.0.9600.18204
WMP version: 12.0.7601.18840
IE Document mode : 10 (Default)
User agent string : Default

I also tried to change document mode and user-agent string, but no luck.

I have searched a lot but not found any solution.

Is there any activX related settings I need to do?

Please suggest me.

Internet Explorer 10 IEAK capturing Security Settings

$

I am trying to package a custom installation for Internet Explorer 10 using IEAK.  I am having some trouble with the Import Security Settings portion of the tool.

It is failing to import the security settings.  It says it has imported them, but upon installation the security settings have not been included in the IE 10 installation.

Looking at the "INS" folder that is built and the custsec.inf file create there, I can see that only two security settings have been captured -- "1401" and "2500" and none of the other 50 or so security settings are collected for any zone.

In addition, I have trusted sites set to not require HTTPS, but that selection is not captured into the custom IEAK generated browser installer.

Does anyone have any tips on how to successfully deploy a customized version of IE 10?  I am even more reliant now on IEAK since IEM mode was removed from Group Policy, so I reall need to figure out why it doesn't function correctly.

Determine if site is loading based on setting from Enterprise Mode XML file

$

Hello,

We're using Enterprise Mode to have some sites load correctly now that we've finally updated to IE11.  But we're having an issue testing sites trying to figure out if the page is loading correctly based on XML file.  I know if I chose IE7 or 8 Enterprise mode the icon on the address bar will change to two buildings (that's what it looks like to me).  But if I select IE5-11 document mode, the icon does not change.  How do I tell if browser is downloading the XML file and loading the page to the mode set on XML if I choose document mode option, regardless of which version?  Also where does Windows cache the XML file locally?

Thank you,

John

However when I browse the page using IP in the URL the media query works just fine and the page is rendered correctly in Chrome and IE 11 for all the devices.

Can someone provide me inputs on how to resolve this issue?

Thanks,
Vinayak

Where is the Internet Explorer 10 download?

Well, I’ve wasted another perfectly good hour looking for a way to download Internet Explorer 10. I can’t find it anywhere.  IE 7, 8 ,9, 11 no trouble. 10 though it appears has dropped off the face of the earth.  Does anyone have a link into an official download location for IE 10?  via premier or mvls would be fine as well.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 a few of our computers have been having issues. Sometimes when they are trying to access a specific website that requires them to submit a digital certificate to sign in it causes their whole system to freeze. They are using IE11, but because the military likes to use old technology I have it set to run in an IE9 emulation.
