Forced to run IE11 as administrator

In order to access content on my bank website I am forced to start IE11 with the "run as administrator" command. If I do not the page comes up showing a dialog box that states TIMED OUT, you must sign in again. This becomes a loop.

Locking down IE11

Hi All,

Thank you in advance for reading my post. I am having trouble locking down IE11 on Win7 Pro. Let me start off with my goal. I am trying to stop the users on stand alone machines (No AD) from typing URL’s into both the IE’s “Address bar” and the Start Menu’s “Search/Run” box and going to their websites of choice while still giving them the functionality of Tabbed Browsing. I have created Links to allow them to go where they need to go.

I also have a Web Proxy server in play, but due to the nature and the way some websites are built, I can’t be too restrictive with it, otherwise some of the websites I do need to go to won’t load or function correctly as they themselves call upon other websites to work.

Of all the research and online searching I’ve done, I found the following registry entries to help me in my quest:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Infodelivery\Restrictions]

"NoSearchBox"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions]

"NoFileOpen"=dword:00000001

"NoFileNew"=dword:00000001

"NoBrowserOptions"=dword:00000001

"NoSelectDownDir"=dword:00000000

"NoTheaterMode"=dword:00000001

"NoBrowserContextMenu"=dword:00000001

"NoFindFiles"=dword:00000001

"NoOpeninNewWnd"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpItemTipOfTheDay"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpItemNetscapeHelp"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpItemTutorial"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpItemSendFeedback"=dword:00000001

"NoViewSource"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpMenu"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions]

"NoToolbarOptions"=dword:00000001

"NoAddressBar"=dword:00000001

"NoNavBar"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TabbedBrowsing]

"Enabled"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

"NoSearchCommInStartMenu"=dword:00000001

"NoSearchInternetInStartMenu"=dword:00000001

All the above registry entries worked with Win XP Pro. However, now that I moved to Win7 Pro and IE11 and added some additional keys for Win7, the only way I can hide the “Address Bar” is to disable the Navigation Bar completely, NoNavBar=1 which also by default disables the Tabbed Browsing even if I move the Tab bar down to its own location separate from the address bar. The functionality is still there, you can use Alt + Tab to toggle through the tabs, but you just can’t see the tabs anymore even if I specifically have it turned on with a registry key entry, and my users just can’t get the hang of using the keyboard shortcuts to navagate the tabs, and in this scenario, it is less productive to use keyboard shortcuts anyway. Also even though I think I have Internet searches turned off for the “Search/Run” box of the Start Menu with a registry entry, I can still type a URL and IE will launch to that page. I have also tried configuring the HOSTS file to restrict traffic, but not only did that not work, I don't think that would be a good solution considering the fact of load balancers and fail-overs used to manage the major websites. I have also looked into Group Policies, and what I could find there that sounded like it would do what I needed, didn't work either.

At this point, I don’t know if this is a bug, I’m doing something wrong or I’m leaving some registry key out.

If anyone can offer any suggestions or point me in a direction where I can find the answers to my problems, I would greatly appreciate it. I also want to say thanks to all the websites that I found the above registry entries at.

Thanks,

Andy

IE 11 not able to add Search Provider

This is brand new Windows 8.1 install, freshly installed O365 and all critical updates installed.

So I click on the gear in IE, select Manage add-ons.

This opens the Manage Add-ons window, I click on Search providers, it only shows Bing.

I click on Find more search providers... at the bottom of the window, this opens IE with a list of the search engines. I click on Google, which loads the google search page.  When I click the Add to Internet Explorer button nothing happen, nothing gets added, no message gets display, NOTHING.

I see the button wants to run a javascript, so I go back in add this site to trusted sites, thinking that will allow it to run.  Close browser, re-open, try again, same outcome .... NOTHING.

So next I go and reduce the security level to low for trusted sites, figuring this will allow the script to fire off.  No luck, still nothing.

Next I go to windows features, un check IE 11, reboot, go back in again check IE 11.  Try it again, still nothing.

Finally I installed the Google Toolbar for IE check the box for making google the default search, after install reboot, guess what .... still nothing but Bing listed in search providers.

Is there another way to repair IE 11 on Windows 8.1?  I have done this many times in the past, why now is this such an issue? Can I manually put this into the registry?

How To Stop Internet Explorer 11 Prompting To Display Full-screen Mode

$

Is there a way to stop the desktop version of Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1 from prompting whether you want a website to display content in full-screen mode?

When it displays the prompt "Do you want to view youtube.com in full screen?  (Press Esc to exit.)", if you select 'Always Allow', it doesn't permanently remember this setting, as it will be reset when the browsing history is deleted.  Surely there must be a setting somewhere to prevent it from displaying this prompt every time?

And I said hey, what's going on...

Downloading File doesn't work, "File has been moved or deleted"

Hello,

recently one of my clients contacted me and told me that he was unable to download a .msg file from our CRM system.

So I connected to the computer to have a closer look at the problem.

Turns out that he only had the problem with some specific .msg file.

The file has the name "Besuchsberich AK Feinrohr - Angebot Nr 2001267 Z 800+ Kombibehälter 2 x 700 Ltr Volumen (3).msg". When the user clicked the download link and just selected "open", he always got the message that the file probably was moved or was being deleted.

Selecting a different download location helped and provided a workaround, but I don't what's causing the problem. Can anyone help?

I thought maybe path is too long or hdd is full but that wasn't the case. Also deleted temp. internet files, no luck.

thanks for reading and regards

SVG disappears on high zoom levels

Hi.

I'm opening a SVG file in IE and zooming in.

When zoom-level is ~650% - SVG content gets invisible (or partly transparent - depends on place where to zoom).

It occurs in IE9, IE10. But works correctly in Chrome, FF, Opera. OS is Windows7.

The SVG content is:

During tests I've found that if to drop usage of the mask out - everything works fine.

Did someone see such a problem as well ? (is it a bug? solutions?).

IE11, This file might have been moved or deleted when downloading *.tif files.

Hello,

I have a problem with IE11 when downloading *.tif files from an intranet server.  When I click the link to download one of these files it opens sometimes and fails other times.  I can try to download the same file 10 times in a row and it may fail 4/10 times and open the other 6 times.  All other file types (pdf, docx, etc) download fine.

Now the odd thing is that the file I am trying to open is a *.tif but IE will say that *.tiff (yes, extra 'f') has been moved or deleted.  If I close IE and reopen it and then view downloads, it now says *.TIF (all caps) has been moved or deleted.  I believe that there is something in IE that is trying to download *.tiff files instead of *.tif so it can not find the file and gives me the error.  The only odd thing is that it works some of the time.

This worked fine on IE8 and IE9 (never had IE10) but we recently upgraded to IE11 and now it is exhibiting this issue.  If I use Google Chrome it works fine but we rely on IE for a lot of inhouse applications so other browsers are not an option.  I am at a loss and looking for any insight.

Thank you.

Failing to remember credentials

Within the last few weeks, IE no longer will remember store credentials (username/ password) when it did before.  Windowsupdates were installed and I am wondering if it is a result of the updates.  The computer has been restarted several times. Not only will it not remember previously stored credentials, but it won't save the info. For example, I go to a site that previously work and subsequently manually type in my username/ password and click login.  Next IE will ask if I want to save my info and I click save.  Next time I visit the same site the info is not saved. It is a Windows 7 machine with IE 11.  The box is checked for install new versions automatically. For some reason on my other computer when you click internet options>content> AutoComplete> Settings, however, the "Manage Passwords" box is not there. Only the "Delete AutoComplete History...".  The "User names and passwords on forms" & "Ask me before saving passwords" boxes both are checked. Also, I have gone in to Credential Manager in the control panel the info I see is:

Windows Credentials - No Windows credentials

Certificate-Based credentials - No certificates

Generic Credentials - only one website and Outlook info is stored here

Consequently, I attempted to add the site manually under "Generic Credentials" and got the following error message:

Error Code - 0x80070057

Error Message - The parameter is incorrect.

Download fail.

I have tried numerous times to download IE 11 to my desktop PC running Windows 7 Pro. 32 Bit even though it is marked as an important update. It gets to about 3/4 on the install process and then stops with a fail to install, Try again. No matter how many times I try it just stops always at the same point. I do have all Windows 7 updates that have been issued so far. The only issue I have with Windows is to do with the "Teredo tunnelling adaptor" which has "! in a yellow triangle" by it. I've tried to update the driver but I'm always told I have the latest driver installed but it still will not work. I have no other issues so is this "Teredo adaptor" causing my problem, I have no idea what it is or what it does..

Does IE 11 honor the Prefetch option?

$

0

In IE 11, if you turn OFF "Load sites and content in the background to optimize performance", you will still see prefetch tasks in Task manager (Windows 8.1 in my case).

To reproduce. Turn off the preloading and prefetch option via Advance setting.

Make sure all iexplore.exe are gone from task manager.

Launch the first instance of IE 11.

Look in task manager and you will see tasks with IEXPLOERE.EXE SCODEF:13176 CREDAT:267521 /prefetch:2

Why do I care? Because after using IE 11 for some time, IE 11 will fail to correctly open new windows. Upon closing down all IE 11 windows, Task manager shows (in my case) 8 of these prefetch tasks and one regular iexplore.exe. After some time, Windows will shut these 9 tasks down, so it is fully aware that these are Phantom IE tasks.

Before you ask, I have ALL add-ins disabled.

Do others see this as well?

If I turn off preloading and prefetch, I should only see 1 iexplore instance when the first IE window opens.

Win10 + UAC IE11 & Scripts ...

$

Major problems with User Account Control UAC and Internet Explorer IE11 in Windows 10 (10240 & 10576).

I want to be able to do whatever I want to do, and have thus turned OFF the UAC from the Settings App, and also turned it Off in the Registry at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

The key: EnableLUA

is set to 0 instead of 1.

With it Enabled (Key at 1) I cannot save my files to the C: drive - it says I don't have the Rights to do so, even though I've Taken Ownership of the entire drive ... But Disabled (Key at 0) I can use my C: drive the way I want to.

But with it Disabled (Key at 0) I cannot use Any of the new (Modern) Apps that comes with Win10 - "This app can't open, bla bla".

But my main problem right now is that with the UAC totally Off as described above ( = Set to 0 ), IE11 and my Script works just fine, as it always did in both Win XP and Win7 (and in Win7 my UAC was, of course, totally Off).

It opens my Script with several sites in the correct order = the order they are listed in the script.

But with UAC set to 1, the sites in the Script opens in some random order, and not at all in the order they are listed in the script.

Only way to make them open in the correct order is to set >>Tools>Internet Options>General>Tabs>>
> Check "Enable Tab Groups".  (Does NOT matter how any of neither "When a pop-up is encountered:" [Now set at 'Let Internet Explorer decide'] nor "Open links from other programs in:" [now set at 'A new tab in the current window'] are set.)

But then I get the Grouping of Tab with different colors, and I don't like that ...

So; WHAT in Heavens name has the Grouping of IE11 Tabs got to do with the UAC ?!

Script follows, I just drag it into an already open IE11 window, it's namned like: MySites.htm

===============

<html>
< head>
< title>openURL-MySites</title>
< /head>
< body>
< script type="text/javascript">

location.href = "URL goes here";

window.open("URL goes here");

window.open("URL goes here");

window.open("URL goes here");

window.open("URL goes here");

window.open("URL goes here");

window.open("URL goes here");

window.open("URL goes here");

window.open("URL goes here");

</script>
< /body>
< /html>

==============

All these shall - and HAVE in XP and Win7 - always opened in the order they are written, but not so in Win10, see above.

Why do one have to use UAC and why doesn't my script work any longer ...

/AW!

(Sigh, When I tried to save this, I got: "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account.", so I had to remove all URLs in the Script ...)

I have IE11 loaded in Windows 7. Whenever IE11 is launched it goes to the correct site and then I get a DEP message and IE11 closes.  How can I turn the DEP off? I do not see this in IE11 options. Need relatively simple instructions not involving code, etc.

COM object embedded in html file using Internet Explorer not loading properly

Hi,

We have a COM dll which when embedded in html file and ran on Internet Explorer (Windows 7) was working fine. We were able to make call to the APIs exposed by the COM dll.

    But recently, we installed the windows updates namely KB3074886 andKB3065822.

    After this, whenever we are accessing the API's of this COM dll, we are getting an error "SCRIPT438: Object doesn't support this property or method: ".  So we tried uninstalling the above two updates and saw that we were able to access the APIs of the COM dll perfectly fine. Only when these updates are installed we are facing the above said error.

     We were able to access the APIs of com dll if we run a standalone application even after these updates. But only when we run the html file on IE, we are seeing this error.

            Can someone assist us in what may be going wrong here. It will be very helpful for us as it is important for us to run with this updates installed in our system.

Thanks in Advance,

Satya.
