Packaging IE11 prerequisite updates with IEAK

$

I would like to deploy IE11 using IEAK. I'm trying to package the IE11 prerequisite updates into the exe\msi it outputs but the installer is still trying to go out to the Internet to grab them from Microsoft updates. I want to avoid this. I am adding the updates via the Custom Components phase in the IEAK Wizard but I am not sure if this even works or if I am even using the correct command. I know the cabs are being inserted into the package because the size of the IE11-Setup-Full.exe\msi grows proportionality with the included cab files.

The expand command keeps getting truncated when I return to the Wizard no matter what I put so I am guessing its incorrect. IEAK documentation is lacking in this area.

Microsoft keyboard and mouse blocks IE9 installation

Over the last two months, I've been manually installing Internet Explorer 9 on desktop and laptop computers in multiple offices of my company.  All are running Windows 7, either 64-bit or 32-bit.  Until now, the installation has never failed.

Yesterday, after starting the installation on a 64-bit machine, a message popped up saying "Internet Explorer did not finish installing".

One suggestion for resolving this was to check for updates that hadn't completed.  There weren't any but I had the machine look for available updates from Microsoft, rather than from our WSUS server.  It found several updates.  After rebooting I tried IE9 again but it failed.

Today, in a different office, another laptop also failed to install IE9 with the same error message.  The one thing these two computers have in common that our other machines don't is the Microsoft keyboard and mouse.  In Windows Update there were two optional updates, one for the keyboard and one for the mouse.  After running them and the installation app that ran afterwards, IE9 still did not finish installing.

Is this a known issue, or am I missing something?

IE 11 blocks access to "Microsoft Update" service

Using Windows Update on Windows 7 SP1, there is an option to enable "Microsoft Update" at the bottom to also update Office and other Microsoft applications:

Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more.

,

This opens a webpage, which in IE 10 and earlier, allows me to enable Microsoft Update.

However, IE 11 does not show the page to enable Microsoft Update but shows a useless and unrelated help message:

Use your Start menu to check for updates

How am I supposed to enable the optional Microsoft Update service now?

IE11 partially crashes

I’m running an older website for Internet Explorer, using VBScript and an ActiveX object (RAPI, C++) developed by our team. Since IE11 does not support VBScript we use the emulate tag,<addname="X-UA-Compatible"value="IE=EmulateIE9" />, in the config file. We also use iFrames (not displaying cross domain web pages).

This setup works fine in IE 8, 9, 10 but not in IE11. The problem is that after our ActiveX component has displayed a modal dialogue IE crashes. It’s not closed down or restarted but it gets these symptoms:

  1. Drop down lists doesn't expand. They are populated  and you can scroll all values using the arrow keys but it will not expand.
  2. You cannot start Developer Tools after this point. (F12)
  3. You cannot open internet settings.
  4. View source is opened in notepad instead of the built in viewer.
  5. You cannot leave the website by typing www microsoft com (or any other address) in the address field. You can still go to other pages in our own site but not leave our site.

After this crash it’s still possible to use our web site with full functionality, except for the drop down lists. The symptoms in the list above remains as long as the tab is open.

Anyone with similar experience?

Thanks
Andreas

HELP! KB3008923 breaks window.dialogArguments in secondary windows!

We have an enterprise app that heavily uses modal dialogs.  This morning we were greeted with a flood of support requests that after a Windows update last night, dialogs no longer work.

We isolated the issue that window.dialogArguments on secondary window no longer works.

I have a test case below that you can verify, window.dialogArguments in test2.html shows 'undefined' on machines that have the KB3008923 update, but "[object Object]" when the update is uninstalled:

test0.html:

<!DOCTYPE html><html><body><button onclick="window.showModalDialog('test1.html',new Object());">clickme</button></body></html>

test1.html:

<!DOCTYPE html><html><head><script>
	 alert(window.dialogArguments);</script></head><body><button onclick="window.showModalDialog('test2.html',new Object());">clickme</button></body></html>

test2.html:

<!DOCTYPE html><html><head><script>
	 alert(window.dialogArguments);</script></head><body></body></html>

IE 11 Enterprise Mode on Remote Desktop Server

Hi,

I've enabled IE11 Enterprise Mode and setup an XML-file on a fileshare which I've created using "Enterprise Mode Site List manager".

When I logon with my test-user and launc IE, after aprox 65 seconds I get the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\internet explorer\Main\EnterPriseMode\ CurrentVersion string updated to the current version of my XML-file. I can then browse the sites and verify that Enterprise Mode is enabled for the sites that I have specified in my XML-file

The problems I'm facing is that if I logout my user and then log back on again to the server and start IE and brwose the sites Enterprise Mode is no longer enabled for them. Also if my user has manually specified some sites for enterprise mode this does not live between sessions.

Where in the profile does IE EM store the data over which websites that are supposed to be in entprise mode? I've found under AppData\Local\ EmieSiteList and EmieUserList but theese 2 catalogs only contains "container.dat" which is 0 KB?

Anyone know? Has anyone gotten IE EM to work in RDS?

Regards

Jonas

EMIE - Remote Desktop Services with Mandatory Profile

We're currently testing out EMIE at my company. I'm able to set EMIE sites through Group Policy by creating a .xml file with the Enterprise Mode Site List Manager. This all works great but when an individual sets a site to Enterprise Mode manually through Tools > Enterprise Mode where is this information stored? This is important to our environment because we use Remote Desktop Services/Mandatory Profiles. I'd like these settings to follow users when they work remotely but this is impossible to do so without information as to how it's stored.

Here is what I know so far:

The information is stored in the User Profile but it is not stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER. I know this because I've compared a HKCU without a site manually set to EM to a HKCU with a site set to EM.

Resetting IE to default settings after manually applying EM to a site does not clear EM on that site.

This thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/6c266558-a7f0-4169-a0a7-668899b1653e/ie-11-enterprise-mode-on-remote-desktop-server?forum=ieitprocurrentver

Asks the same question but it's not being answered. The OP Jonas_Bson pointed out the location of two folders and files that are created when EMIE is Enabled. These paths are AppData\Local\EmieSiteList & AppData\Local\EmieUserList. Both locations have a container.dat file that are 0KB. Regardless if sites are added / removed from EM the file stays at 0KB and the date created and modified time stamps never change. However, if I set a site manually to EM, delete the container.dat file in the EmieUserList location, relaunch the browser, the site manually set in EM no longer in EM. I created a container.dat file with EM set, and a container.dat file with EM not set. If I replace the container.dat file with EM set with the container.dat file with EM not set, EM is not applied to the page that was manually set. It appears this container.dat file is just some sort of place holder to use saved settings but is not where the settings are saved.

If anyone has found the location to where manually EM settings are stored, please let me know.

IE super slow in loading .css under a particular user profile

$

Mighty all,

I'm facing an extremely weird problem affecting a particular user profile. One computer, several user accounts.

IE running under USER A on the right - loads fecebook.com (or any site with css involved) instantly (<1ms per item, as shown below).

IE running under USER B on the left - takes ages (5 seconds+) to load each element.

Problem remains after upgrading from IE9 to IE11.

Windows 7x64 Ent.

I've tried so far:

  • deleting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
  • deleting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
  • deleting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
  • Running IE in no-addons mode
  • Running IE in x64 mode
  • Resetting IE settings
  • Deleting cookies

Does anyone know why could .css be that slow to load for a particular user profile?

Scrollbars Broken

After applying KB3008923 certain sites seem to be missing their scrollbars (one in question is our internal intranet site hosted on sharepoint). When viewing the same site with any other browser other than Internet Explorer or with out KB3008923 the site works fine in Internet Explorer.

Is there any workarounds other than uninstalling KB3008923?

Can't print via proxy

Hi

I've got a really strange issue with IE8 that I'm coming up short on.

Basically, a customer I support has a certain internal website to hit. No problems with it, it's been added to the IE proxy bypass exceptions and into the corporate proxy/web filter (WebMarshal). Everything works fine except ONE thing.

There's a process that needs to run and what happens is that data displayed on the site will be pulled into a PDF and a preview of that PDF displayed in an iFrame. However, if the site is in the IE proxy byass list, it refuses to show the PDF content, showing it as a blank page. It also cannot show the data in print preview as it's not been pulled into the PDF. Printing the page simply prints a blank page.

Now here's the rub, remove the site from the IE proxy bypass list and everything works as normal. Data pulled into PDF and can be seen, previewed and printed. They are still going through the corporate WebMarshal. the really strange thing is that both Firefox and Chrome both show the content without issue, when using the proxy settings pulled from IE, with the site IN the exception list.

IE8 is being used as it's support by the vendor of the site. Firefox is as well, but the Assistant IT Manager wants to use IE so that certain settings can be tied down via GPO.

I've tried loading IE with all add-ons disbaled, but the issue still remains. I would go through the security settings one by one, but time spent is going to more than outweigh the final outcome.

Does anyone know of any way I can narrow down why the IE proxy exception would be causing the data to no be pulled into the PDF document.

Cheers!

Any ideas?

Internet Explorer 9 No longer installing

I've tested this on multiple machines at work at different sites and on home VM's.  The IE9-neutral.Downloaded.msu from Microsoft is corrupt or invalid.  Is this intentional? Is it going to be fixed?  Need to still be able to install IE 9 on Windows 7.  I cannot find a news release or blog saying this is intentional or dated for anytime within this month... I thought we still had another year for this?

Thin installers no longer work, period.  Offline installers fail 100% when connected to internet, 10% of the time when not connected to internet. (Very thankful we can still install offline most of the time, but it's a real pain in an enterprise environment.)
