When I click on a link that should open in a new tab (or right-click and select Open in new Tab), IE11 Opens a new tab but the screen is blank, the URL is about:blank and the tab title is 'Blank Page'.

Windows 8.1 x64
Internet Explorer 11 (Desktop)

The 'Metro' version of IE 11 still works fine, it's just the Desktop version which is broken.

I've tried all the fixes listed in the similar thread, but none have helped.

I did a complete recovery last night. I wasn't sure what version of IE I had. I  had 9 and downloaded 11 because it said it was better. It didn't work for me on Game Show Network so I was told it couldn't be removed, but could be not used by taking the check mark off in the box in the control panel. I want to download 9 and thought I did. It said it is download, but installation was not completed. Now how does that make sense? If it is downloaded, then it is downloaded. If it didn't complete, why is it saying it is download? I have no IE icon showing anywhere so how can I get it to work? I am a computer dummy and this is driving me crazy! Please help me!

I tried reinstalling and that didn't work. Then I tried uninstalling and installing with a downloaded version of IE but that wouldn't work is said that there was a newer version installed. I tried the Microsoft FixIt and that also didn't work. Disabling the plug-ins same story. I cant boot into safe mode since I'm remotely managing the computer. Is there anything else I can try except for a repair install of windows?

Thanks in advance!

Niels

I have lost access to Internet Explorer.  When I click on Explorer, it states I have no access and I either get Google or Microsoft.  I had a Norton tech working on my computer this morning trying to correct a problem I was having and I think they must have uninstalled Explorer and replaced it with Google.  I would like to go back to Explorer.  Do I need to download it or what is the solution.

Thank You

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to enable and configure the content advisor for IE 11 through GPO. The setting in Group Policy preferences is greyed out and there is no way to configure from a regular policy. The only setting relates to showing the content advisor option (it's disabled by default).

I don't wish to use IEAK.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Unable to add IE Trusted Sites - new entries do not display

All our current Users are unable to add any entries to Trusted Sites in IE.

Very similar to https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/04a84c3e-0b02-4ca3-886d-126e5682b113/can-not-add-entries-to-trusted-sites-list?forum=winserverGP we are able to go into Trusted Sites and type the URL and click Add to see the item displayed, but after clicking Ok then going back into 'Sites' the item is no longer there.

If I check the registry the items are listed, but nothing in UI of Internet Explorer, and the site is not processed by IE.

We have tested to the point we know it is only a User setting somewhere in their profile/registry but not sure how to proceed. We can override using Computer Settings (Zone / Assignment) but we do not want to do this as it locks the User out.

I have seen lots of posts but no answers.

I have Windows 8 Pro RTM installed from MSDN. I am running IE10 and I go to my Linksys router and get the usual certificate error. In all previous versions of IE, you could just click continue and move forward. IE10 does not all this, please let me know where this setting is so I can use IE10, I hope I am not forced to use Chrome. Also there is no option to run as IE9 for some reason.

Enterprise Mode Design

Hi

In our organisation we have locations which fall into a couple  of categories "High Bandwidth & Low Latency "  and "Low Bandwidth & High Latency ". The majority are well connected locations but there a some remote locations which are not so well connected. In total there are 150, 000 users globally. Please note I've read the following but i can't find any answers: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn640687.aspx

We'd like to:

1. Turn on Enterprise Mode and use a site list

2. Turn on local control and logging for Enterprise Mode

3. Set up Enterprise Mode logging and data collection

So here are the questions:

1. How many Servers are required? Sitelist(IIS), Logging(IIS), Reporting, Database?

2. Is there any sizing guidance for the servers?

3. What is the scalability of sitelist, logging, reporting etc?

Many thanks in advance

Enterprise Mode for Internet Explorer 11. Difference in how adding a site works.

$

I am noticing a difference in how adding a site to open in Enterprise Mode works.

When I incorporate a XML file created by the List Manager, containing 'http://mysite/mypath'.   Enterprise mode functions for the entire site.  When I say entire site, I mean pages in virtual directories also open in Enterprise Mode.   This is good.   But I for the time being I would like to put it on my users to approve their sites.

However, if I choose to not use a file and just allow the users to add sites, when they go to 'http://mysite/mypath' then go to Tools and Enterprise Mode to add the site.    We close Internet Explorer, reopen, enter the site 'http://mysite/mypath' opens in Enterprise Mode.   But when they navigate to pages located in virtual directories, they display in standards mode.   And would need to be added separately by going to Tools -> Enterprise Mode.

I just want to know am I seeing this behavior correctly, or am I possibly missing a step.

Thanks in advance for the response and feedback.

How do I stop IE 11 from renaming downloads

$

IE 11 renames files. For instance, .exe files become _exe, .zip become _zip. This is happening on Win 7 Ultimate-64-bit, Win 7 Pro 64-bit, and Win 8.1 Update.

This interferes with my ability to get updates to my Visual Studio and many other programming tools.

IE 11 won't even support the Akami system used by MS.

As far as I know all the security settings are set to allow downloads. Windows Firewall is configured to tell me when it blocks a program.

I read an earlier blog post from the IE Team that says this problem is due to some sites being creative!?!

The latest Firefox has no issues downloading.

How to get data attribute of object tag from ACtive X control

$

Hi,

I am writing an Active X control using MFC for IE which can be used using <object > tag. Under object tag there is 'data' attribute which is of URL type and gives the resource/file that can be used by the control. My expectation is that IE should download the resource/file and tell me the location to use the file .I have following questions here.

1) Is this is right expectation that IE is going to download data or Control should download the data?

2) If this right expectation then how can I got the path of downloaded data from 'data' attribute?

MFC template derives the control from  COleControl which implements all required interfaces like IPersistStreamInt etc to get the required information about the downloaded URL. I read lots of documentation where it seems that this class implements all required interfaces to get the data but I am not able to get that information. I tried to implement the IPersistMoniker as additional interface but that interface is also not being used by IE to inform the URL data. Please advise me to how to get the data.

Thanks

Sushil

IE11: Unable to enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2

I have recently been testing Windows in FIPS-compliance mode for compliance with a common security policy mandated by a state government agency.  This included my assigned laptop, which is running Windows 8.1 Update Enterprise x64.

As part of the test, I enabled the "System cryptography: Use FIPS 140 compliant cryptographic algorithms, including encryption, hashing and signing algorithms" both in local security policy on my machine and later via a test GPO.  Since that test has completed, I have deleted the GPO and disabled the setting in local security policy.  I've also rebooted several times to verify the setting is truly disabled and also tried creating a GPO that forces that setting to disabled.

What I am seeing is, since performing these tests, I can no longer enable TLS 1.1 or 1.2 on IE11.  They were previously enabled.  The settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 are all grayed out.  SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0 are checked (and cannot be unchecked) and TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are unchecked (and cannot be checked).

Suspecting group policy, I put my user account and computer account in an OU that has group policy inheritance blocked and made a GPO that only forces SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 on for my user account and applied it to my test GPO.  The particular setting is Policies | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Advanced Page | Turn off encryption support | Use SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2.  I ran gpupdate /force, rebooted, checked local security policy to confirm that my laptop is not in FIPS mode, then checked the IE11 advanced options and there was no change.

How can I get TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 back?

How do I get IE to drop the domain name from authentication responses

$

All,

I have a number of internal www servers that run various non MS operating systems which are not tied to the windows domain in any way. They are secure www sites and require authentication.

When I connect to one via IE on a domain joined workstation or server (ie 8 & 9) I am unable to authenticate because I can not remove the domain name from the authentication credentials that IE is passing back to the www server.  I get an authentication prompt for user name & password with the domain pre populated.

How the heck to I get IE to NOT pass the domain name as part of the authentication process. I've tried putting .\ in front of the user name but to no avail.

Thanks,

Steve D.

IE11 Enterprise Mode XML List

$

My clients do not load my enterprise list. I have tried the following...
1.Create a sites.xml file using the Site List Manager tool and store it on a web site accessible by all clients
2.Enabled the "Use the Enterprise Mode IE website list" group policy option and entered the appropriate URL to access the sites.xml file.
3.Verified that the client applied the policy

The Key get written to the Registry

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode]
"Enable"=""
"SiteList"="http://server.xxx/ie11/complist.xml"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode]
"Enable"=""
"SiteList"="http://server.xxx/ie11/CompList.xml"

But it does not seem like my list is being used.
According to this link https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/6c266558-a7f0-4169-a0a7-668899b1653e/ie-11-enterprise-mode-on-remote-desktop-server?forum=ieitprocurrentver
A key with the current version of the enterprise list should be created
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode]

(REG_SZ)"CurrentVersion"

How ever there is no EntpriseMode Key at that location. What else could I check?

I have run Internet Explorer for more than the 65 Seconds, also have already done multiple restarts but a current version key is not created.

EDIT: If I press alt and choose tools I don not see a option to use enterprise mode. Over Group Policy I have set enabled the settings "Let users turn on and user Enterprise Mode from the Tools menu" but I have not set a location URL where to recieve reports. What could the Problem be that Users can not Enable Enterprise Mode over the Tools menu? Do I have to set a URL even if I do not want to use reports yet?

ActivX controls for IE9 via Group Policy

$

Good Afternoon Community,

I am having some difficulty coming up with an elegant solution to an activX scenario.

Basically what I have is 2 .ocx files that need to be deployed to my domain (100+ units) that I would like to handle through group policy. I have done some reading on the ActivX Installer Utility but everything that I can tell it requires that the url be present. In my case I do not have a url for the files, I physically have the files on one of my servers.  I was wondering if there is an elegant way using GP to deploy these two files to the network.

Currently my only solution is to create a log on script that maps a shared drive, forces a copy of the two files from the shared drive to the local "downloaded program files" directory followed by the regsvr32 commands that registers the .ocx and then unmapping the shared drive. While I believe my solution will work, I feel that it is a I mentioned not "elegant".

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Fuzzy/blurry

Hi
I have been asking about this before but now the situation has changed.
My problem is a known problem for other people aswell.
Here it goes:
I am using IE 11 ( the latest updated ) and before the update i used IE 8 due the text on ect youtube or other sites that used IE text for standart was getting blurry/fuzzy and ruined my eyes and hurts my head reading the text. This was when i had AMD radeon 7950 card. Now i have a nvidia gtx 970 card but the problem with blurry/fuzzy text is still here..even this text is horrible to watch.
Then i tryed to use google crome and it helped a littel bit..only here the text appers a bit more gray and background like. And still a littel bit fuzzy.
Now today i instaled firefox and the text is SUPER FINE like it should be..back when i had IE 8.Nice and relaxing to read..NO FUZZY/BLURRY !!!
So why has  IE 9, 10 and 11 and even Crome messed up the text so bad that people must have glasses or increase the windows system to use 125 % or worse in order to read the text like a old man who cant see well.
I heard it should be related with some kind of direct draw X font that should be better, but why did they create something so horrible that it is roulette if you get blurry/fuzzy text with ur setup and hardware. Maybe Bill gates wants every one to buy glasses in year 2020 so we can look like him..
