Ability to customize sans-serif, serif and monospace?

Firefox and Chrome provide the ability for users to customize sans-serif, serif and monospace to their favorite font. However the customized font in preference only works when no font-family is specified. Could the dev team consider adding this or similar feature in the future release? Thanks!

However, all the links from the sub folders have disappeared on both PCs. I was testing Office 365 deployment for the company and was not expecting this changes to happen like the desktop wallpaper. This Page Can't Be Displayed

I get this error on IE 11 Microsoft Windows 7 & 8.1 when I try to access my website via Apache Reverse Proxy version 2.4.1 and openssl version 0.9.8p; using client certificate generated and provided by my CA server, some certificates work while other doesn’t. The complete scenario is given below:-

I have a two websites severed by the servers that are behind the reverse proxy server. We access the websites through the IP address of the reverse proxy.  First website doesn’t require certificate for the user to log in, but to access the second website the user has to present his certificate to the web server; the client certificate is generated by CA server and provided to user. I generated two certificates for testing purpose, I accessed the website via reverse proxy, IE 11 asks me for the certificate that is to be presented to the web server for authentication, first certificate works well but when I try to access the website using second certificate IE displays an error “This Page can’t be displayed”.  The same behavior is shown on all tests conducted.

All certificates work fine on FireFox  and windows XP IE 8 but the same above mentioned erroneous  behavior is observed in Chrome as chrome uses the settings of windows

With IE9, when I click on a link to download a htm or html file, I get a pop-up from the download manager asking Do you wan to save ...  The options are Save, Save As, or Cancel.  The Save and Open option is grayed out.  I would like to be able to "Save and Open".   Is there a way that I can change how the download manager handles htm and html files so that I can "Save and Open"?

If you want to download any file in IE11 there is no option to OPEN the file. Only two options are to SAVE or Cancel no option to OPEN.

The question: Is there a way to set IE11 via GPO to show the OPEN option in addition to SAVE and Cancel options.

Mitigate SSL3 “poodle” vulnerability on Windows 7 and Windows XP

Hello,

I work for a company that has a large user base  of employees that are remote workers. Their computer are mostly Windows 7 with a  XP systems. I’m looking for a way to disable the use of SSL 3 on the client systems due to the “Poodle” vulnerability.  Group Policy is not an option as the machines are not domain joined but are managed by Altiris.  I’ve seen some sites suggest that adding the following registry entry to the  client system can achieve  this goal:   (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/3009008.aspx)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 3.0\Server]"Enabled"=dword:00000000

Is this accurate?  The results of my testing are unclear on this. I was thinking I could create  script that would add this key to the registry on the client systems and deploy it with Altiris.

Thanks for your assistance

IE no longer exists on my computer

IE no longer exists in my programs file.  I tried to download IE but message says cannot install because I already have a more current version.  I have IE file folders in which there are a few files, .ins, text, .xml.  No others.  The .ins files allows me to "extract".  When attempting to do so, Windows does not recognize the .ins file type, which seems odd as I understand .ins is a windows extension.  It will not allow me to open and when following the links to locate a program that will open it, I get 3rd party web sites wanting me to run THEIR registry fixing program.  HELP!  I am running Win 7.  Thank you.

H, I am running the latest version of IE 11. IT IS SO SLOW.  When I run Chrome it is super fast.  I have not used IE for about 8 months because of the speed issue.  I would like to use IE...can someone tell me how I can make it faster?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

"What do you want to do with this file?" is not the prompt I want.

I have a problem:  SharePoint 2010 Ent/Office 2010 (win 7 & win 8) - some users click on a .xlsx file in SharePoint and receive the "What do you want to do with this file?" prompt; others do not get this message, but instead Excel opens, opens the file read only while still connected to SharePoint - if the users clicks on the Edit button in the Yellow Banner, they can edit - changes are saved to SharePoint. For the folks that receive the "what do you want to do with this file?" message, they cannot edit and save changes to SharePoint easily. We use a variety of browser versions:  IE9&10&11. Surfing forums hasn't helped much - anyone shed some light on this?

Allow user to add/delete sites to IE security zones

I have a GPO to add sites to IE security zones. For some reasons it does not allow users to add sites to IE security zone. I have "Security Zone: Do Not Allow users to add/delete site" set to 'Not Configured' and "Security Zone: Do not allow user to change policies" set to 'Not Configured' in domain GPO for Computer configuration.

What causes the option allowing users to manually add sites to IE security zone grayed out (disabled)? How do I fix it? thanks.

I followed this link https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/63bde102-b822-42a6-8de5-0f364ce7db46/howto-manage-ie-security-zone-settings-and-sites-via-group-policy-and-allowing-user-changes?forum=winserverGP

but I could not locate 'Internet Explorer Maintenance' at User Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\ !

Tracking cookies in \users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies

I was making a full backup of my computer (Windows 7) and happened to notice some text files being backed up from the \users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies directory.  Out of curiosity I looked at that directory.  There are a number of text files dated today and they seem to have tracking domains inside like adnxs.com, spotxchange.com rubiconproject.com.

The file dates were from today even though I don't use IE. In fact I haven't used my computer much at all today. Are there windows services that might be running IE in the background? It's very disturbing to see these tracking cookies in a windows system file.

Bing in IE Causing Windows 7 to Crash

$

This didn't happen on Windows XP on any version of IE 8 and below that I used, this is only happening with Windows 7. When I navigate to Bing in IE10 the computer crashes entirely, with no warning. When I take a look at the event viewer it just tells me Windows shut down unexpectedly... This issue does not happen in Firefox, only upon navigating to Bing. It loads the homepage, then miliseconds later it shuts down.

Additionally my drivers are up to date, I have tried switching out video cards and also ensuring those are up to date, java is up to date, and Windows updates have all been installed...

Thoughts, instructions? Please help. Bing is necessary for a web based app I use that gets its data from bing maps and is only compatible with Internet Explorer versions 6 - 10. I have a DXdiag report if that helps anyone. Let me know and I'll post it.

IE11 problem with Proxy.pac: Why does whitespace padded to a "if" statement get parsed as an End-of-file? Subsequent lines ignored.

Discovered apparent whitespace problem with IE11 using proxy.pac

We had an "If" statement in the middle of our proxy.pac which had whitespace padded at the end of the statement:

if (host=="a.b.c.d")                 <CR/LF>return "DIRECT";<CR/LF>

The problem is that IE11 was then ignoring all subsequent lines in proxy.pac that followed the line with the 17 characters of  whitespace padding.

Is this a new bug introduced with IE11?

Our solution was to remove the extraneous whitespace at the end of the line, and the problem was resolved.

Why would IE11 have trouble with this whitespace added at the end of an "if" statement?

Collections of issues about GPP Internet Settings

Here is the summary of hot issues about the configuration of Internet Explorer Internet Settings via GPP from forum.

Q: What can I do when options are grayed out?For example, the options to set cookies under “Privacy” tab are grayed out, so it is unable to configure it via GPP.

A: We can configure the setting via registry as an alternative way, the values are stored underHKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\3.Privacy Settings (1A10) is used by the Privacy tab slider, more information are mentioned inKB182569.

In order to apply the configuration in domain environment, we could deploy the registry entry via GPO. If one setting is controlled by a number of registry keys or binary values, then we can export the registry information from a reference PC, then apply the settings to related areas.

Q: What is the importance of F5-F8 keys?

A: The GPP doesn’t work even though it has been applied successfully with the help of the command Gpupdate /force. In this case, check if you have mixed up the function of F5-F8 keys:

  • F5: Configure all of these settings
  • F6: Configure just this setting
  • F7: Ignore just this setting
  • F8: Ignore all of these settings

Please refer to the following article to get more help: Reference link:

Red / Green: GP Preferences doesn’t work even though the policy applied and after gpupdate \force

Q: Cannot find GPP for Internet Explorer 9 in a Windows Server 2008 environment.

A: Please select the suitable solution according to the case:

  • There’s a hotfix for this issue, seeKB2530309,this update changes the values that are used for the internal filter for Internet Explorer 8 so that the settings also apply to Internet Explorer 9.
  • Internet Explorer 9 and 10 GPP settings can only be shown up on Windows 8 (RSAT for Windows 8 installed)or Windows Server 2012 or higher versions.
  • To configure Internet Explorer 11 GPP settings, you need to have Windows 8.1 (RSAT for Windows 8.1 installed)or Windows Server 2012 R2 installed as DC.

Q: What is the filtering mechanism of GPP?

A: If the GPP doesn’t apply successfully, it’s necessary to check the filtering setting, Item-Level Targeting which allows to change the scope of individual preference items. It is based on each setting whereas, however Security Filtering and WMI filtering are based on each GPO.

Q: Internet Settings applied via GPP can be changed by the end user, what can I do to prevent this?

A: This is by design, but we can manually set the Group Policy refresh interval, shorten the time to make the policy re-applied again and again to avoid this issue. We can configure the three policies:

  • Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy\ Set Group Policy Refresh Interval for computers
  • Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy\ Set Group Policy Refresh Interval for domain controllers
  • User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy\Set Group Policy Refresh Interval for users

We will appreciate if you have some more ideas about solving these kind of issues, please feel free to add your comments here and share your experience with us.

IE 11 - Web Application on slow network - Is timeout adjustable before "Recover Webpage" pops up?

$

My company is using a web application in Internet Explorer 11 for our business from many different locations around the country.  In some locations with slower network connections, the application naturally takes longer to download the data it needs.

If the user get impatient and clicks again (which users often do), IE 11 pops up that yellow bar across the bottom that says "AbcServer is not responding".  The bar includes a "Recover Webpage" button and an X to just close it.  If the user just waits, the application actually works.

It seems like the user won't get the "not responding" message until about 10 seconds of waiting, and then it happens only if they click somewhere in the IE window again.

Can this timeout value be adjusted?  If we wanted to suppress the "not responding / Recover webpage" message for say 30 or 45 seconds, is there an IE configuration option for doing this?

I found an article that suggested changing this registry value:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
( In this subkey, add a ReceiveTimeout DWORD entry that has a value of (<number of seconds>)*1000 )

We tried this suggestion but it did not suppress that "not responding / Recover webpage" yellow bar from popping up after about 10 seconds for an impatient user.

Setting up IE11 to open links in new tab

$

I am using Windows 8.1 and IE11. All I want is for my PC to open a new tab when I click on a link. I have read the questions and answers in the forum [from 2010!]; and yes, I KNOW I can right click to do it but that is awkward with my touchpad. I could do it on my old PC, but apparently that functionality is now gone? I hope you can tell me about some workaround, otherwise I will have to change browsers [which I definitely do NOT want to do].

Internet Explorer not storing last session

$

Hi ,

I am using IE 11 on windows 8 enterprise ( on a domain network - roaming profiles). Recently I had to force shut down my machine.

At the time I had several tabs open on IE, firefox Chrome.

When I logged back in to my machine, the only browser that started up and faithfully brought back all the open tabs was Chrome.

I opened IE11 expecting the last session to be restored. None of that. It just showed me my home page ! I opened firefox and it faithfully reopened all the tabs.

Why is it that Microsoft can't do this on it's own operating system platform with it's won flagship browser ? With Chrome I can log in anywhere and I can browse my history and bring back my book marks. No such luck with IE.

Recently our Service provider changed their e-mail server to exchange 2010. with that all our users who are on IE11 are experiencing major  problems using owa full version. Your solution to use compatibility mode doesn't work. So in some cases we are having to go back to IE10.

Why can't MS build a product that works all the time reliably ? As an example I give you MS System Center configuration Manager. It's a wonderful product and works every time.

Please don't slip up and let Apple Chrome catch up with you guys. We want MS to do well. but you are not helping yourselves.

So when can we see fixes for 1. Restore Last browsing session 2. OWA on IE 11 for exchange 2010 and also the IE history doesn't store reliably for  roaming profiles. Fix that as well please.

thanks

Nalin.
