IE 11 blocks access to "Microsoft Update" service

$

Using Windows Update on Windows 7 SP1, there is an option to enable "Microsoft Update" at the bottom to also update Office and other Microsoft applications:

Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more.

,

This opens a webpage, which in IE 10 and earlier, allows me to enable Microsoft Update.

However, IE 11 does not show the page to enable Microsoft Update but shows a useless and unrelated help message:

Use your Start menu to check for updates

How am I supposed to enable the optional Microsoft Update service now?

Get all policy applied to IE 10

Guys,

We have a lot policies in our environment with improper naming convention, therefore its hard to determine which is which. Now, our plan is get all policies applied to IE10 (running on Windows 7) and consolidate them into one. Also, we want to determine which policy is applicable to IE 11 since we are migrating to IE 11 soon.

1. How should I get all the policies applied to IE10?
2. How should I know existing policy is applicable to IE 11 or not.

Appreciate if someone can help me.

Thanks.

IE 11 on Win10: Enabling TLS 1.0 via User Preferences GPO does not work

$

I have installed the latest .ADMx and .ADML gpo-files in AD and set Internet Explorer 10 User Prefernces so that TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are checked.

BUT: When GPO is applied, only TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 is enabled i IE 11. Registry shows:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"SecureProtocols"=dword:00000a00

If I check TLS 1.0 manually, registry shows:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"SecureProtocols"=dword:00000a80

Runing gpupdate /force resets to TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 only. (dword:00000a00)

Also tried to use the Computer policy "Internet in control panel\Advanced" and that makes all TLS checed, but TLS 1.0 is NOT working as it should, some webpages pop ask me to check TLS 1.0-1,2. Also enabling SSL2.0 and 3.0 makes these pages work, but then som use RC4 as encryption and that is not desired.

A bug or what? Tested on several machines with Win10, both 1511 and 16087, same results.

Enabling TLS 1.0/1.1/1.2 via Regedit ("SecureProtocols"=dword:00000a80) is working to the point when te GPO is applied again and therefore not an option.

Can't open a file, can only save or cancel

When I click on a link for a file, like an mp3, rdp, etc. the only options I get are save or cancel.  For example, if I try to connect to a windows azure virtual machine I have to download the RDP file - I can't just click open.  Is this an IE11 issue?  Is it a group policy setting?  Is this something I can fix/change?  Can I have my IT department change something?  This is really frustrating.  Any thoughts are appreciated.

IE 11 Does not load all contents

I have an internal website which I am trouble loading the full contents in IE 11.  The computers are domain joined and get group policy from domain. The site works fine if the computer is not part of the domain. So it is not browser. I do not know what setting I should enable in GPO to fix this issue. The real time contents are not showing up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IE 11 keeps crashing

I have noticed that websites (and it appears to be pages with Java and/or with Flash) that Internet Explorer crashes. It is horrible that when I visit normal sites such as Yahoo.com, MSN.com, etc. the browser just crashes. I have done the Reset under Internet Options --> Advanced tab and that did not fix it. I did the GPU option under the Advanced tab. Again, didn't fix it. I uninstalled Flash Player and Java and then reinstalled them both. It still didn't fix the problem. I'd hate to have no plugins or anything just to use IE and when I visit sites I cannot use them because I have no plugins. IthinkI have it narrowed down to Java is running on the page.

I have Windows 7 - 64bit with latest updates and SP and IE 11.

IE 11 PAC File

Hi All,

I have the following issue with deploying a PAC file for proxy within our corporate environment.

I can create the following PAC file for a single IP address which works absolutely fine with IP 172.16.5.10 routing via the proxy and everything else goes direct:

function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
  {
      if (myIpAddress() == "172.16.5.10") {
        return "PROXY proxyip:8080";
      }
      else {
        return "DIRECT";
      }
  }

However, when trying the following for all machines on the subnet i see strange results;

function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
  {
    if (myIpAddress(isInNet, "172.16.5.0", "255.255.255.0"))
      return "PROXY proxyip:8080";
    else
      return "DIRECT";
  }

IE 11 is configured to use http://serverip/proxy.pac.  The results with the subnet PAC file are:

  • IE 11 ignores the PAC file and goes direct, not via the proxy - this is the issue as i need the entire subnet to route via proxy
  • Chrome and Firefox, configured to use system proxy settings, both work as expected and route via the proxy

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

I am running windows 10 on all my systems. Some time between last night and this morning, non of my favorites folders have links in them. Sure enough, if I check the favorites folder on my filesystem, all the folders are there but are empty. The favorites on the edge browser continue to work. The issue is seen across multiple PCs. All of them are showing empty favorites.

IE11 crashes when trying to open PDF's in the browser after patch KB3160005 installed

$

We have a mission critical program that now crashes because of the patch KB3160005 that was uploaded to all of our Windows 7 Professional computers on 6/14/16. When the employee tries to open a PDF in this program, IE11 hangs and the PDF will not open either. IE11 must be shutdown. Our work around is to remove KB3160005 and then check for the updates and when it appears to hide it and this fixes the problem.

This update is shown to be critical according to TechNet and so I would like to know which one of the 5 patches incorporated into the patch is actually causing the problem and what we can do to fix it and not lose the update by removing it.

Windows 10 Professional will sometime exhibit the same issues with the same mission critical program, but the patch KB3160005 is not on any of the systems I have looked at, so I have to merely reset the browser and then all is well after that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because this is taking up all of the helpdesk's time resetting this patch and making our employees efficient again.

Thank you,
