iVIDI Adware Virus

One of my old laptops used by my 12 year old son has an adware virus saying "Ads by iVIDI" and "Ads by Provider". I've searched and most Internet results want to download a useless malware tool. I'm familiar with Regedit and the Windows 8.1 system but can't figure out how to clean this virus off the machine. Can anyone help?

lost favorites

My 5 years of favorites has disappeared from IE after the upgrade to 10. No I did not back-up anything. The upgrade was so laborious that I felt I was swimming up the falls at Niagara and gave up several times.

But is there a way to recover the lost list.

And also, my initial response to 10 is BOO!

How do I get catalog.update.microsft.com to play nice with ie11 64-bit ?

I was getting nowhere on catalog.update.micrsoft.com with ie11 on windows 8.1 64-bit.

Looks like it was missing an active-x control (and doesn't prompt for it).

I used ie10 on another 64-bit machine (that I've previously used on the website) and grabbed MicrosoftUpdateCatalogWebControl.dll from %windir%sysWOW64 and copied it to the same location on my 8.1 box.  Then ran regsvr32 MicrosoftUpdateCatalogWebControl.dll as an administrator in that directory and everything was peachy.  Thought I'd share in case anyone else ran into this problem.

IE11 Default Paper Size When Printing To Other Than Windows Default.

I have 2 printers on my PC. 1 is a receipt printer with 58mm wide paper. The other is an HP1410 with letter size paper. The receipt printer is set as the default printer since it is used most. But sometimes I need to do a print of the web page used for the Point Of Sale. When I select the HP printer for the output, the page is printed but only 58mm wide instead of letter size. Likewise if I set the HP1310 as the default printer, then when I select the receipt printer as the output, it tries to print letter size. IE does not appear to change the paper size when a printer other than the default is selected. It ALWAYS uses the paper size of the default printer irregardless of the printer selected for output.

Note that Chrome works correctly and will adjust the page size to the default for whichever printer is selected but IE will not

Also note that NotePad has the same issue.I haven't tested with edge but then it won't support Activex either.

I am limited to using IE because the credit card scanner used with the receipt printer requires Activex support. My only workaround now is to switch to using Chrome whenever I need to print to any printer other than the Windows default printer. There was a similar old issue "IE7 Default Paper Size" that never really had a resolution. It reported a similar issue between printers with Letter and A4 paper sizes. Any help would be appreciated.

Open IE11 Pinned Sites in new IE window from the 8.1 Start screen

$

Hello:

Does anyone know if it's possible to "tell" a pinned site on the Windows 8.1 Start Screen to open in a new IE web browser window? In this way, it would work much more similarly to how site's perform when they're pinned to the taskbar in Desktop mode. It would also perform much more like any other app (that can be resized in Modern App mode, etc.) than just a glorified website bookmark.

Thanks.

P.S. I am not an IT pro (though I'm not opposed to dabbling with certain system files), but I was asked to post my question on this forum by one of MS's Support Engineers.

Data used to automatically download upgrade KB3087985

I was doing routine computer work on the evening of 8/19/15 when I started getting warnings from Verizon Wireless about my JetPack data utilization. (I am on a 5GB/month plan, and 3.55+GB were used in that one evening.)

The tech at Verizon said the usage occurred in the "Communications and Device Services," which includes Windows updates and stuff I don't use (such as Skype).  My computer's update history shows only one update on 8-19-15, and that is

"Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3087985).

Could that update possibly have used 3.55 GB of my data allowance?  What is the maximum it could have used?

Migrate from IE9 to IE11 via GPO

Hi,

Is there a way to migrate from IE9 to IE11 (on Win7 x64 machines). I've read a lot of post, but haven't yet found a solution.

I know WSUS could handle this, but I want to control the deployment. i.e. I would like to select a computer to target for the IE11 migration. I'm not sure if this is possible via WSUS.

I'm in a corporate company where I would have to control the deployment and test. Once the test phase has completed, I could roll out the migration to a selected few computers.

My method of migration would be GPO or WSUS (if WSUS can allow targeting of computers)

My environment dosen't have SCCM or MDT.It won't be an option to install these either.

Ideally I'd like to create an IE11 package, create a group policy and apply it to an OU. The Group Policy is picked up by the computer in the OU and IE9 updates to IE11... **In a real world that's how it would work right???

Thank you in advance guys

IE11 Credentials Prompt in iframe - EPM enabled - Windows 8.x/10

Hi,

I'm currently stuck with a strange problem occurring only with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

We use a Bluecoat Proxy appliance but it may be the same with other proxies using web filtering.

Actually, on a Windows 7 with IE11 installed, when a user browse an Internet page trying to open a denied website in an iframe, we receive the custom websense page hosted on our Intranet telling that this is not allowed without problem.

When testing the same site with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, Internet Explorer is asking the user's credentials to display the custom page in the iframe. When clicking on Cancel, I have a 401 error in the iframe, when entering the credentials, I receive the custom page.

The Windows 7, WIndows 8.1 and Windows 10 are using the same GPO.

Any idea ?

Gerald

F5 Networks Firepass and Internet Explorer 11

I am running Windows 7 and recently appear to have been upgraded to Internet Explorer 11.

A Couple of days ago i was successfully using F5 Firepass (using IE 10). Today i cant use it...

After sorting out Kaspersky - which has started to consoder the logon as needing a secure keyboard entry (never did this before...),

I am getting warnings; (a) that Javascript is not enabled - it looks enabled to me...

(b) I need to install the F5 Browser plugin.

I have downloaded the plugin (NPuroamHost.dll), and the instructions are to 'unpack it into the plugins folder of your browser tree.'

Where on earth is this?

I found another post elsewhere with a similar problem - and the solution was to uninstall Internet Explorer 11. Amazing!

configuring compatibility settings via Group Policy

$

Hello,

I have created a Group Policy that is supposed to add specific web sites to IE11's compatibility view but the web sites do not appear in the compatibility settings list of sites.

I have configured the GPO settings under:
User Settings > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer

The specific settings are:
Turn off Compatibility View - Disabled
Use Policy List of Internet Explorer 7 sites - Enabled

List of Sites
https://webe1v1.rsiavlweb.com

I have read that even though the settings don't appear that they are still applying. Is this true? If it is true then my issue is not with Compatibility View.

Thank you for any assistance provided.

IE11 Enterprise Site List Manager XML file setup - HTTP, Local Network, or Local File

$

Hello,

I'm currently in the process of testing/deploying IE11 in our environment and I've begun testing on the IE11 Enterprise Site List manager.

I've read that there are a few different ways to configure the XML file to apply via GPO per the article below.  HTTP, Local Network, Local File. (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Dn640699.aspx)

In my isolated testing I've chosen to use the local file method which is very easy to setup and use on a testing machine.

It looks like we have the flexibility to choose how we apply the XML file, and I was curious what the best options are and why?  Also are there examples of each setup being used and the benefits/downsides to each?

Here's the options that I can see using:

1. HTTP - setup an IIS website to host the XML file.

2. Local Network (UNC) - setup a UNC path on our DFS where we store the current XML file and users would have read only access to that location.

3. Local File - We could just deploy the XML file via SCCM package/application when updates to the list are required.

Could anyone please point me towards some articles, etc, explaining the pro's and cons of these methods and why I might want to choose one over the other?  I'm leaning towards just using a DFS share and option #2 because it doesn't require us to maintain an IIS site for it but I am curious to hear if there might be any downsides to this method, or benefits to going with another method.

Thanks!

Windows Updates over SSL

We currently have Internet Explorer configured to have the following Trusted Sites to enable windows updates.

However, we would like to access these updates only over SSL since we are removing port 80 and 8080 as allowable port traffic.

Are these windows updates available over SSL?

Thank you.

Internet Explorer 10 HtmlPage Incompatibility

$

Hello,

I have been using Windows XP/Windows 7 for quite some time developing Silverlight Applications. After purchasing a 64bit Windows 8 laptop, I discovered an incompatibility with reading the Y offset for the browser window. I need this setting so that I can reposition child windows. The following works on XP, 7, and with Firefox/Chrome on Windows 8.

HtmlPage.Window.GetProperty("pageYOffset")

Only Internet Explorer 10 has an issue. The page offset is always ZERO. This is a serious issue as control windows, forms, etc. are not displayed where the user can see them.

Is this a known issue?

Is there a Silverlight workaround for IE 10?

Thanks...

Warren
