Edge browser pins ... no favicon
I noticed when i pin most sites to my start menu in windows 10 i get a generic edge logo. i pinned youtube and i get the you youtube logo as the icon.
what can i do to my website to get it's icon to show up when it gets "pinned to start"
edge doesn't recognize the icon coding that IE, Safari, and Chrome do.

How to configure download options in IE11 (save, open, cancel)
Hello,
we are soon to rollout IE11 (currently IE9 is in use). One question came up while testing the IE11 configuration: When you download a file (for eg pdf or docx) sometimes you can choose between "save, open, cancel", sometimes only "open, cancel", sometimes only "save, cancel".
Which group policy is responsible for the possibilities? Even in local intranet zone we sometimes don't have all three options?!

Who Decided to Combine the Search Box and Address Bar?
A very wise person once said:
"Make everything as simple as possible, but no simpler!"
That fundamental rule of design has been volated with Internet Explorer 9.
I've been using IE9 for about a month now, trying to get used to all the new things. Performance-wise it's nice, and the changes to security are welcome. Okay, so the color-management is half baked, and it still has its problems, but I guess it's an improvement.
But what idiot decided to make the search box and the address field one and the same?
You think I'm being petty? Go try to research what a particular file is - for example, go see if you can find info on "bib.dll".
It wants to make it into a URL. It's not a URL. It may LOOK like one, but it's a name, honest!
Putting quotes around it doesn't help. Maybe I'm missing the advanced syntax it takes to get such a thing to be a search term instead of a URL. Even if so, how is this an improvement or simplification? It's certainly not intuitively obvious how to force a search, short of dredging up a link to Google and typing info in there directly.
Doing a search and typing in an address are two FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS.
And hey, it's not a big deal that you can no longer see what it was you searched for, and maybe even edit it and search again. No, because now the search engine pages have to waste space to put up a box showing what you just searched for, since it's now GONE out of the address field.
How does stuff like this pass a design review?
And to think the Microsoft Engineers worked extra hard to take it out.
You Engineers at Microsoft need to take the product back from your moronic marketing people and make it actually work right.

Java blocked in Internet Explorer - GPO?
Hello,
I would appreciate a suggestion and some answers right now cause I m a little confused.
So, in our organisation we recently discovered that the JRE plugin is not recognized in Internet explorer 10. When you try the Oracle verification page it keep saying that Java is either disabled or not installed. The installed JRE version is 8 Update 45 but it doesn t work neighter with the newer Updates.
What is curious is that Jre 7 Update 79 is working just fine. When checking Internet Options - Java is not even seen as an add on.
In our organisation a lot of internet options are managed by group policy - in some organisational units this problem doesn t appear so my guess is it could be on GPO..

Enterprise Mode Reporting - I'm not getting cs-uri-query or cs-username
I'm working my way through Setup Enterprise Mode Logging and Data Collection and I've configured my group policy, created an IIS site using port 81 and configured logging. I've also copied my sitelist xml and EmIE.asp file.
When I turn Enterprise Mode on/off from one of my clients, an entry is created in my IIS log file, but it only contains the date and IP address. What I get is this:
2015-08-20 - - 192.168.0.50
Where did I go wrong?

INtermittent failures when searching info at a website
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for ideas on how to fix IE to work 100% with a particular website (Mainaccount.com if it matters, it's a financial website). Here's the situation: 3 end-users all go to it and punch in their info on a static form page then get a new page (Not popup) displaying what they queryed on. Seems like the usual output is a graph but I don't recall 100%, that was yesterday :) For one of the 3, it works intermittently. He'll get the generic "This page can't be displayed" error. I went down there to see and sure enough, we talked for a while and it worked as much as failed as he tried numerous times. The status bar didn't show anything. So for the moment, I assume it is NOT anything like IE config, extensions, java settings, activex settings, etc. because if it was, it would always fail. So I'm going back to basics. I disabled add-ins anyways (Just 2 skype things, the rest were the built-in add-ons), deleted temp internet files. Figured wth and added the domain to compatibilty view. The end user called the website support who said there wasn't any particular config necessary to get the website to work. These were token measures so I'm asking for new ideas. Oh yeah one more thing. It seems there's not much you can do to blow away a user's IE profile, correct? I saw the info on exporting cookies, favorites and feeds but that won't be enough, in my opinion. Thanks!

I need system date format to display date in my application.

Title Bar Visible
I have a code for online test in asp.net.During the test the title bar and menu bar are disabled. This works fine in few systems i.e. no title
bar and menu bar is visible. But for few systems title bar is visible which allows students to minimize the test and search for the answers in different tabs. i have to restrict the students from minimizing the test window. Although they can use Windows+D
but i have restricted them to use keyboard keys for 3 times when they are on test window. After the test window is minimized they can use keyboard without any restrictions. But for title bar what may be the solution? What may be the issue that some systems

Microsoft Edge sandboxing of external Javascript code breaks PrototypeJS
What Microsoft Edge is doing, at least from what I can see, is that any external javascript(ie javascript from any other FQDN that is different from the websites) is being "sandboxed" to an extent. I'm not sure how much it is being sandboxed, but Edge will not let you see function code. So if you were to do a someFunction.toString(), you will get "function someFunction() { [native code] }" where as in any other browser you would get "function someFunction(args, args1) { /*the functions code*/ }" You can of course run the function but you can't print it out. Where this gets to be a problem is with Prototype. For subclasses, prototype does a toString of a function to see if it has "$super" as its first argument. If it does, then it knows to link that with a parent class's function. If prototype can't see a text version of the function, any subclasses will not work correctly. I can't find anything about this on the internet. You can't change any security settings in Edge(there are not toggles).
Does anyone know any workaround or do we just have to wait and see if Microsoft will fix this?

IE 11 as the default browser over Edge
I set IE 11 as the default browser but every time I click on a link in an email I still get the question of which browser I want to open the link in. I click Internet Explorer and select the "Always open with this app" and click ok. The next time I click on a link in an email I am again asked to select a browser to open.
How do I fix this permanently so that IE opens instead of edge?

Bug in Silverlight 5 Build 5.1.40728.0
I wasn't sure where to post this, please feel free to tell me where else it should be posted, as I was not able to find a Silverlight forum.
We have a custom in-house application that utilizes Silverlight. We just applied the latest patch 5.1.40728.0 and after applying it, our custom app no longer renders any information, it displays a blank screen, I suspect this has something to do with the truetype font rendering that was fixed for a RCE security patch, however we no longer are able to view our dashboard of our custom application. We rolled back to 5.1.40416.0 and our application works as normal. Does anyone know of any issues, i've searched and found nothing, i know this patch is very new so maybe not many have tested it out yet.
I'm trying to find the appropriate way to open a technical issue with Microsoft, will keep this thread updated as I find out more. If anyone else has this issue, i suggest rolling back to 5.1.40416.0.

RUN Command to reset EDGE / IE or a batch file
Hello,
I work as a tech support specialist and these days we are struggling with EDGE browser on how to reset it when it is full of pop-ups.
We know the standard method through Settings and figured out that if we open a new tab using ctrl+T we can then reset it but do we have a way to reset it using CMD or RUN.
Any help is appreciated.

Creating GPO to set an Advanced Setting
On my Windows 2012 Essentials server, I would like to create a GPO that sets the IE Advanced Option "Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder when browser is closed". Using the GP Management Editor -> User Configuration ->Preferences
-> Control Panel Settings -> Internet Settings, I right click on Internet Settings, select "New" and I do not have an option for Internet Explorer 11. What do I need to do so that I can support GPO's that target Internet Explorer

PDF might have been moved or deleted on some PDFs, retry works
When trying to Download or Open some PDFs from URLs we are getting "xxxx.pdf might have been moved or deleted" as follows:
If you choose Retry, the PDF then successfully opens.
This happens on some sites where the PDF is forced to open using the Viewer, and doesn't open in a separate Tab in IE.
This has only occurred since upgrading from IE9 to IE11 (running Windows 7). Have tried changing IE11 to compatibility mode, using different PDF viewers (Acrobat 11 and Foxit), Using Windows 8.1 Client with IE11, and none of these has fixed the problem.
Once the download succeeds it generally succeeds on follow-up attempts as it is in the Clients Cache.
We have identified that the only way to workaround this is to bypass our Proxy server (which has been also updated, unsuccessfully to fix this very problem). This is not a viable option and googling this very error reveals a similar unresolved result.
Using process explorer shows that the PDF is placed into the clients PC as a xxxx.partial download, and upon renaming it to xxxx.PDF, it opens successfully. This appears that the download merely fails to validate the download properly, but I cannot expect users to perform this step.
