IE 10 will not install in Windows 7 64 bit SP1

I go past the prompt that says "restarting programs".  Then the installation fails.  The updates are all up to the minute.

Please help me install IE 10

Here is the log.  Same error in three tries.  It gives the IE10 Failed to install message.

Automatic prompting for file downloads in IE9

$

We have our own internal program running here at our company that only we have access to inside the network via the web browser.  Recently we upgraded from IE8 and IE9 and noticed that now when we click links within our program to open .txt files we are now prompted asking if we want to open or save the document.  I've noticed in IE9 the option to enable or disable "Automatic prompting for file downloads" has disappeared.  I understand the reason behind this as to protect from malicious code or programs executing in the background without users knowledge.  My question is does anyone know of a way to enable this for example on trusted sites only?  I don't want to open it up full blown, but would be great if I could do this on a site by site basis.  Since this is an internal application we access via the browser it has really thrown a wrench in the work environment for our users, even though it is just clicking one extra button.

P.S.  I'm aware of the right-clicking the file you recently downloaded and unchecking the option to automatically open those file types, but that's only an option for specific file types, such as .zip files.  Its not an option for .txt files.

IE11 Enterprise Mode site list not working

I've configured the Enterprise Mode site list as directed in the following article

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn640696.aspx

and set up the gpo to point to my site.  I've confirmed in my site's logs that the xml file is accessible.

However, it isn't working; none of the sites are launching in enterprise mode.  I notice that the CurrentVersion key in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode has remained at 1 and is not updating.  I'm assuming that is the problem, but I can't figure out why it won't update.

Any advice?

IE Showing CSS/HTML Vertical Table Text - Bottom to Top

Hello

I have searched all over for the past few days trying to find a solution for IE where I can display text in a table vertically starting bottom to top (or -90 degrees from normal).  All other browsers seem to be able to do this but IE cannot.  Can someone point me to an easy or any solution for this?

Script errors on I.E. 11, after updates

$

I think these began after the last set of updates.

I Randomly get different types of script errors when navigating to a new page.    It is NOT reproducible, as subsequent attempts to the same web pages do not always get an error,  or if it does - it's not the same error.     Whether I click the 'continue running scripts' YES or NO,  may cause a different error, or it may not..     Clicking past however many errors does NOT seem to affect the page which eventually displays.     At times,  it seems to disappear for a few pages, then it's back.

I downloaded a replacement I.E. 11,  but it tells me that a 'newer' one exists and will not replace it.

I'm willing to try a replacement,  but how do I clear the existing I.E.?    Or what updates can I remove that may correct this and/or allow me to replace this annoying 'cry wolf' copy?

Thanks,

Bob

Performance issues in IE11 using complex JS

$

I have a quite complex javascript produced by GWT and it works great in all browser (including IE10) but in IE11 I'm facing performance issues.

Activating profiler I discovered how the most consuming code is...(in order from the most consuming)

clientWidth, offsetHeight, and similar methods with impressing values:

clientWidth 32 seconds (32806ms) for just 60 calls offsetHeight 29seconds for 181 calls

it seems to me the cause of my performance issues localised in IE11 (consider the execution in IE10 is around 2seconds for the whole code) and beside naturally I can start optimise reducing the number of call (if possible) i would like to understand if there's anything wrong with methods i'm using or something else Anyone knows what's so wrong in IE11?

I checked that the browser works in standard mode and document mode is 11 but just to give a term of compare: clientWidth in the same code in document mode=10 (using IE11 and forcing it through development tools or using directly a IE10) it's 15ms... a difference of 2000times

Lock Down IE to a single website

$

Hi,

Is it possible to lock down IE to only use a single website? I'm setting up a PC to be used a kiosk machine in a public area to point at the customer's public website and the customer does not want facebook, twitter, porno.com or any other site to be available to the public.

So far, I've tried:

1. Using a proxy of 127.0.0.1 and adding an exception for the customer's website.
2. Using content advisor to only allow a single site. Oddly enough the "Always Allow website\webpage" still asks for a password prompt when used.
3. Using firewall rules to block traffic to all sites by configuring an allow rule for http/https to my customer's site IP and then using a deny rule for all other outbound http/s traffic - just didn't work.

The problem with 1 & 2 is that the customer's website is large (around 35 pages) and there are links on many of the pages to facebook, youtube, twitter, google analytics and a few other. The customer wants their youtube content to be viewable, but not watch other videos - I can't see a way of doing it, but thought I'd ask....

Thanks

Local Area Network (LAN) Settings empty after Windows updates on some users

$

Hello,

We changed to Internet Explorer 10 some time ago. This problem has been persistent from the day one. The problem is that after every Windows Update some users get their Local Area Network (LAN) Settings (Control Panel --> Internet Options --> Connections-TAB --> LAN settings) totally blanked. We are using the automatic configuration script so this is the only setting I'm really interested about. There is no single windows update that effects this. Every Windows Update that touches the Internet Explorer will erase the options.

  1. We are using new Group Policy to push USER settings to clients (USER Config... / Preferences / Control Panel Settings / Internet Settings)
  2. I have also made another GP that will send the right REG values (USER Config... / Preferences / Windows Settings / Registry) Also I push these settings on logon-script if they are not present.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]"AutoConfigURL"="http://proxy.server.address:1812/pac_files/proxy.pac"

After user takes restart the settings are fine again. Also running gpupdate and starting Internet Explorer again fixes the problem. Any ideas would be great... I dunno maybe it would be possible to push these settings to HKLM side to make them the new "defaults". I will post updates how that goes.

The "Menu bar" duplicates itself in IE9

I always have the "menu bar" displayed by default in IE9. Sometimes, several times a day, the "menu bar" will duplicate itself and display twice on the browser screen. If I turn the "menu bar" off and back on the problem goes away for a while but will return. I am just wondering if this is happening to anybody else or is it just me? Here is an example of what the screen looks like with two menu bars. Oh, the top "menu bar" does not work.

To manually install both the x86 and x64 updates go to

https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

We have detected you may be viewing this page in a 64-bit browser. If you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers interchangeably, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java in order to have the Java plug-in for both browsers.

Web site not resolving within network

$

We have a company network and are having trouble access the site gis.Utah.gov from within the network.

Here are the steps that I have taken for troubleshooting:

  1. ran nslookup and get the correct IP provided from inside the network
  2. Set up the internal DNS server with no forwarders (only using root hints)
  3. From within IE ran the network capture and came up with the following from within the network:
  4. gis(dot)Utah(dot)gov HTTP  (Aborted)  0 B < 1 ms refresh 0 0 0 0 0 42026
  5. I have run the same outside the company and it resolves OK.

We have tried this with IE, Firefox and Chrome with no luck.

If anyone has any input regarding what else I could look at to resolve this issue, I would be grateful.

IE 10 & 11 Proxy prompt behaviour

$
0
0

I am working for a client, and they have recently rolled out Windows 7 64-bit machines, with IE 10 on them (IE 11 is not yet an option due to incompatibility with Citrix Receiver 3.4 PNAgent and Mcafee VSE).

The proxy in use here is a Clearswift web gateway appliance (linux) using NTLM authentication to the proxy. This then forwards requests to our ISA 2006 server.

We have two sites, Site A and Site B. Each site has it own subnet, and it's own Clearswift web gateway.

We also have 4 remote locations, with their own subnet, but not separate site as far as AD sites and services are concerned. All these remote location's subnets fall into Site A. We have leased WAN lines to interconnect all these locations, with Bluecoat WAN accelerator at the remote locations.

Internet works fine at either site A or B. The problem arises at ALL the remote locations ONLY WHEN using the Windows 7 machines with IE 10. Users always get a popup box asking for authentication to the Clearswift proxy. This does not occur at Site A or Site B. And it does NOT occur on the old Windows XP machines with IE 8 at the remote locations. And it also DOES NOT occur with firefox at the remote locations. I have tested with IE11 and the problem still exists.

So in short, if the following happen:

1. Windows 7 PC with IE10/11

2. Remote location, NOT site A or site B

3.Attempt to browse internet via IE10, using Clearswift web gateway as proxy

You will always get the authentication pop up box, unless you:

1. Use firefox

2. Use the ISA 2006 as proxy instead, skipping the Clearswift web gateway

The Clearswift web gateway is in use due to company policy that wishes to block inappropriate material. And firefox is not deployed to local machines again as part of company policy, none of which I am either allowed to change or even paid to.

I have opened a support call with Clearswift but I doubt I will get anywhere.

I can confirm that the Clearswift web gateway (which is just a linux appliance running on vmware) uses NTLM authentication.

The only thing I have found is this:

https://support.microsoft.com/kb/976918?wa=wsignin1.0

Which I have tried to no avail.

The only other variable that has not been accounted for is the Bluecoat SG210 WAN Accelerator at each of these remote locations. The two remaining tests for me to do are:

1. Bypass the WAN accelerator

2. Turn off the need for authentication on the clearswift web gateway

I would be keen to know if anyone else has had similar issues.

HTML5 Webstorage and GPO

I'm trying to troubleshoot a webapp, which uses LocalStorage to store a user's username (an email address) between (sessions) logins. The used method conforms to HTML5 specs: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_webstorage.asp

The problem I'm facing is that on a number of workstations in the same hospital organisation this doesn't work.

Is there any GPO settings that could affect a user's local storage, and preventing the webapp to store the last username? Also, any resources documenting these specific GPO settings would be useful.

Thanks,
