Whitelisting Local Drive Locations - Out-of-Date Activex Java Control Blocking

$

Greetings,

We've had success in adapting and whitelisting trusted domains with the recent addition of IE blocking dated versions of Java.

However, Cisco Securemail uses a attached .htm that a few agencies send to our associates that are opened locally on their PCs then authenticate to a service in the cloud-- these .htm files embed the use of Java. We can whitelist and authenticate fine to those services, but the initial local Java pop-up has proved troublesome.

The following TechNet article touches on how to whitelist a local location, but it's specific to user profile andthe name of the file.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn761713.aspx. Is there a means of which to whitelist an entire directory of files and folders to avoid this? I've tried file:///C:/Users/ and file:///C:/Users/*" but haven't had any luck. I realize I could turn this off altogether, and that whitelisting C:\Users isn't very secure-- but we're really like to keep as much of this functionality in place as possible.

IE 10 and 11 freeze after KB2962872 - Web Application with File Upload/Download

$

IE 10 and 11 freeze after KB2962872 update with the following scenario:

Upload a file to a server, the server responses with a file download (like a simple conversion service).

Result: When the server is sending the file, IE freezes and process iexplore.exe is running with high CPU load.

IE 8 and 9 are not affected. And IE 10 and 11 without the KB2962872 update also work fine.

If IE 11 with KB2962872 is running in InPrivate mode, then it also works. In contrast to that, IE 10 with KB2962872 in InPrivate mode does not work.

Demo:

http://sharedspace.lima-city.de/upload.php

Just select any file. After clicking on "Upload", an empty text file "test.txt" should be returned. Instead nothing happens and the browser crashes/freezes.

Sourcecode:

upload.php

<form enctype="multipart/form-data" action="./service.php" method="POST"><input name="file" type="file" /><br><input type="submit" value="Upload" name="upload"/></form>

service.php

<?php header('Content-Type: application/x-download'); header('Content-DisPosition: attachment; filename="test.txt"'); ?>

Any solution so solve this problem?

Cannot stop my homepage from being hijacked and have used various uninstallers, virus and spyware scans, manual removal and followed all Microsoft's recommendations for resetting browser etc. and nothing works. Last resort is to simply remove IE and use google chrome that works.

MS Dynamics CRM 2013 install via GPO

$

Good Morning,

I need to rollout MS Dynamics CRM 2013 to all 180 of my users. I would like to do this via GPO but I only have the .exe install files and no .msi files. I have adhered to the following -

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh699775.aspx

I have followed the steps under the section Create the CRMCLient_bitversion.msi filebut I am not achieving any administrative installation files. For example I have a network share setup as follows -

\\server\crm_files\test

I have mapped a network folder via command prompt using the net use command to map the Z: drive to\\server\crm_files. As per the instructions I have run the following command -

CRM2013-Client-ENU-i386.exe /a /q /targetdir \\server\crm_files\test

When I run this command I am prompted to click Run or Cancel so I click Run. After 2-3 seconds I then get a dialog box showing the different switches that I can run with the only other option being to close the box. After closing the box I look in mytest folder and it is empty.

Should there be something in the test folder? Have I run the wrong command string?

EDIT: Please note that I only have the installation/.exe file for CRM 2013. The article on the link I posted earlier mentions an XML file that is included with the installation files. I do not have this XML file.

IE11 Temporary Internet Files Settings GPO

Hello,

I´ve created a GPO to decrease the Temporary Internet Files Amount from the default 250 MB to the desired 50 MB. In this GPO I changed the default registry settings "CacheLimit" under "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\Cache\Content" to the 50 MB.

After the user logged on i checked the registry to verify if rhe gpo is applied successfully, and the value was changed correctly to 50 MB. However, after starting the Internet Explorer and checking the properties, the default value of 250 MB space appears. Refreshing the registry reveals that my 50 MB setting was simply overwritten to the default value of 250 MB after starting Internet Explorer.

Why is this happening and how can i prevent that?

thanks & bye

IE 11 Address Bar Blurred Blue Shadow

$

Good day,

Every time I open a new tab the address bar shows this odd distorted blue blur that seems to include various scrambled characters. I'm using Windows 8.1. It seems to be the web address of the previous opened tab, almost like ashadow. It is only visible for a split second and then it goes away.

Have you experienced this? Can it be resolved? I was initially concerned it was a defect in mytouchscreen. I called tech support and was informed it's IE.

Please advise,

IE 11 opening mht files take lots of realtime

I have acquired mht files for references or for other reasons.

I had to reload my Windows OS but opt'd to go to Windows 8.1. i'm finding my archived mht files will open only after 1 to 4 minutes. then there could pop-up "recover webpage" message.

I have never seen the mht files without taking "a lot" of time. but I have gotten use to it. now on IE11 I have added issues where if I click too soon the page will close and have to be opened.

any suggestions or explanation on how to fix my mht file for IE11 and or import the open time?

Unable to access intenet sites after KB2977629 loaded

I loaded the security updates of September and found that I could initially access my home page on IE but the second time I tried it hung up with the IE saying it was connecting but never getting through. Same problem with any other website. After reading about the updates and the mega update for IE I uninstalled KB2977629 and I was able to access my home site along with any other site with no problem. So I stopped automatic loading so I can prevent this update from being loaded automatically. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix?

Sep 2014 patch kb2977629 ms14-052 breaks certificate error continuation in IE8 Win7 x64

Greetings,

During extensive testing we have found that after applying patch MS14-052 on win 7 x64 IE8 machines, it breaks the certificate error continuation. When accessing certain websites we get a certificate error (x-domain issues) and then we click "Continue to website...." and it brings up a logon screen. This is normal behaviour for us. After the patch is applied, when we hit "Continue to website..." IE8 goes into a continuous loop and the screen flashes repeatedly. Therefore we have recommended not to install this patch.

IE11 proxy prompt with squid

Hello,

Recently we upgraded our IE to 11 on our servers.

We have a mixture of W2K8R2 and W2K12R2 running. Ever since we upgraded our IE from 10 to 11 we have problems when using our squid proxy.

IE11 keeps prompting for credentials.

This is the setting in squid for NTLM

auth_param ntlm program /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-ntlmssp
auth_param ntlm children 20
auth_param ntlm keep_alive on

What could be the problem?

IE UI hang with dynamic compression of AJAX callbacks

$

Hello all;

I've built a large scale single page enterprise app.  It conducts virtually all service transaction using AJAX requests, and data transfer is primarily JSON.

We recently implemented dynamic compression for JSON and XML in IIS.  This gives us gZip encoding for our JSON data packets, and greatly reduces the size of our transfers across the wire.  Because of the data requirements of our app, we really have to do this or hourly operational costs will simply be too high.

We have, however, hit a snag:  in IE, when an AJAX callback returns data that is compressed, there is a total hang in the UI process while the content is handled.  It appears to me that this is happening during the decompression of the callback data.  Why decompression would happen in the same thread as the UI I don't know, but that certainly appears to be the case.

What I'm looking for is a way to work around this, as it is quite disruptive.  Assume you have an app that polls for data in the background perhaps every 30 seconds.  If that data set is compressed, and IE hangs for 2 seconds at each decompression event, then you wind up with a product for which the UI becomes unresponsive for 2 seconds every 30 seconds.  It's not acceptable.

Has anyone confronted and found a workaround for this sort of behavior?

Thanks - all comments and insights welcome.

Turn off outdated ActiveX controls for specific domains GPO isn't working

$

I really like the new feature to block outdated ActiveX controls as it makes our computers a lot safer since we are stuck with old Java versions for various corporate applications. However I have found that the GPO policy named "Turn off blocking of outdated AcitveX controls for Internet Explorer on specific domains" is not working in our environment. I have entered several variations on one of the domain names I want to be allowed to run the old Java version, however IE9 and IE10 continue to display the message that Java is out of date. We have enabled the "Remove "Run this time" button for outdated ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer" to prevent unwitting users from allowing an infected website to take advantage of Java, so perhaps that is part of the problem. Has anyone else gotten this GPO working?

On Wednesday 6th August 2014, we announced that as part of our ongoing commitment to delivering a more secure browser, starting September 9th Internet Explorer will block out-of-date ActiveX controls. (Note: The original post stated that the ActiveX blocking would begin on August 12th. Please refer to the addendum for further details).

Please take a look at this important update via the blog post as well as the FAQ contained therein and commence testing within your domain.

Thanks and Regards

Mark
