IE 11 Temporary Internet Files Settings

$

Hello!

I want to set IE settings for everyone in my company to the desired goal.

This is the desired goal.

Open IE.

Tools -> Internet Options -> General -> Settings.

I want under Temporary Internet Files:

Check for newer version of stored pages to be Every time I visit the webpage

and

Disk Space to use to be 8mb

Initially I tried to set this using a GPO but I have not found anything to do thisfor IE 11 in my research.

I figured instead I could also have a simple script run on all the computers every day to set the settings.

I found I can run this for the 'Check for newer versions of stored pages' setting and it does the trick:

Just changing SyncMode5 to 3

reg add "HKCU\software\microsoft\Windows\CurrrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0" /v SyncMode5 /t REG_DWORD /d 00000003 /f

I then try to do something similar for the 'Disk space to use'

reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\Cache\Content" /v CacheLimit /t REG_DWORD /d 8192 /f

This changes the appropriate Registry Key if I look at the Registry editor, but then I pull up Internet Options -> settings and see that the "disk space to use" has not changed.

If I then Manually change this to a different amount of MB I can go to the registry editor and see the same registry key:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\Cache\Content\CacheLimit has changed.

I figure there must be another key to be changed. A lot of places online say to change the

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Cache\Content\CacheLimit

but that didn't even exist. I tried to make it, and set the appropriate registry key, and that did not work either.

or

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Cache\ContentLimit

and that worked the same way -- manual changes from IE options show here, but when I change in regEdit it doesn't get changed in IE.

Any advise on how to manage the companies settings, or how to set the Registry Key would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

FIles installed with IE

A few tears ago, we had issues with a machine where the IE version information on a machine where a certain feature did not work was the same as the version on a machine where it did work.

we learned then to access the list of files that are installed with IE and compare those lists across both machines. We then found one or 2 differences in the  files on the non working machine. Updating those files resolved the issue.

I'm not 100% certain but i belive we were able to get the list of files from a link in the About IE pop up. Whether that was the case or not, For IE 9, 10 and 11, we do not know how to retrieve this last of files.

Any assistance will be most appreciated.

We used this process to fix a few issues where we had been pulling our hair out to resolve. Perhaps this is no longer valid but I need to make that determeintion

IE GPO Settings, Site to Zone assignment list

$

Hello there,

I have a question. At our firm, we used to enroll windows policies from Novell. Nowadays, we use the marvelous MS AD.

Since we use AD to enforce our windows policies some differences in the effect of certain settings have come to my attention.

We have a site to zone assignment list, in which we state that certain sites belong to a certain zone. Before we used AD we had a site called awtuing01 which was in the Intranet zone. Since we use AD GPO, in which we also put that same zone assignment, things started to fail. It (the webapplication) started to prompt for permissions while these prompts where disabled in that specific zone. So it seemed as if the site was no longer in that zone. After some searching I found out that the pages that where causing these prompts where from a server also called awtuing01 but with an exotic port like 8891. So i started wondering if it could be that only ports 80 (in case of http) and 443 (in case of https) where allowed to be in that zone, and not that exotic port. So I added awtuing01:8891 to the intranet zone in the site to zone assignment list and voila, things worked normal again.

Now my question is, is the assumption correct that when you manually set a site in the Intranet zone, it allows different ports and when you enforce this with a GPO it doesnt? Or is this a setting I am overseeing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Greetings from the Netherlands.

Internet Explorer Proxy Exception - Syntax format for covering subdomains?

$

Hi.

Can anyone tell me the right format for a Proxy Exception to cover a domain with subdomains? There are several examples covering the use of wildcards - like this MS article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd361953.aspx

The "Enter a wildcard at the beginning of an Internet address..." example does not cover the useage of subdomains :-(

a.b.c.microsoft.com

Do I use\ set the proxy exception to "*.*.*.microsoft.com" or is "*.microsoft.com" enough to cover all the a.b.c subdomains?

File Upload to IIS 6.0 Webserver works intermittently

$

I have a 2003 windows server with IIS 6.0 installed.

We use the website as a central repository for legacy documents.

Internal users historically will authenticate to the website.  And when they choose to upload a file (usually a small .pdf) they are prompted to browse for file and select "Upload". This fails 1/2 the time.

Im not sure where to begin with this since the issue is intermittent. At first, I thought it was an IE version issue. It doesnt fail with IE 8, but with IE 10 and IE 11 it is hit or miss. One sec a file will upload. The next sec it will provide a WSOD (white screen of death) in a separate window.

The one thing that is perhaps the most weird is that if a user tries to upload a file from a PC not previously used, the first upload will succeed. But the very next one will WSOD in a separate window until ya "X"out of it.

Internet Explorer 11 hangs after uploading files and returning PDF

$

Internet Explorer 11 hangs after submitting a form that contains uploaded files and returns a PDF.  This functionality works on all browsers (Chrome, FireFox, Opera) except IE 11.  It works fine on IE 8, 9, 10 and previous versions of IE 11.  I'm not sure what has changed or exactly which IE 11 update introduced the error, but it no longer works.  I've debugged the ASP.NET MVC action and used fiddler2 to analyze what is being returned.  Everything being returned is fine, but IE just hangs.  If you submit the form without unloading a file, it works fine.  It only hangs when you upload files and return a PDF.  If I submit the form and upload files but return another page instead of a PDF, it works.  It only occurs when submitting a form with a file and return a PDF.  Any ideas?

Lightweight Internet Explorer -- Is there a way to stripdown all the extras in Internet Explorer

Hello,

Is there a way to limit all extras in Internet Explorer and keep the bare minimum? We see that different users have different latency for the same application on the same type of hardware. One of the things we want to try... is to open our application in a IE browser with bare minimum required functionality... for example, some banks when you logon to the account, opens the account details in IE with all menus, add-ins etc hidden or disabled etc... could you please suggest what is the best way to go about it?

Any sites that are added to the trust sites zone will not load when 'Automatically detect settings' is ticked on IE, if you untick it and specify the same proxy manually it works fine.

Seems to be the issue. The file is there and present and the installer is being run as local admin.

I have also tried to install KB947821 as seen on another forums with no luck.

Any ideas?

I wanted to deploy this silents to my client computers but on this test pc with the Default build its not looking good! =[

IE Proxy Settings Issue

$

Hi,

I am having serious issues deploying Internet Explorer 11 proxy settings via Group Policy.

So far I have tried the following scenarios:

1) Used Internet Settings via the Users' Group Policy Preferences

In this scenario, the policies are being picked up by the client. When I check the user PC and see that the "Use Proxy Server for LAN" is checked and user is able to access internet properly.

The problem is that users take their laptop home and connect to internet using Personal Wifi or broadband and they have to remove the tick for Proxy setting to work. When they are removing the tick, it automatically gets enabled. They are not able to get rid of that proxy enablement. This is happening for all IE 10 and 11 users.

The requirement is that they should be able to remove the tick and work when they are not in LAN.

I have a query here. Usually the frequent visited websites will be shown in series of box icon form and usually we only see 10 icons of frequently visited websites.  Is it possible to change or view the those frequent visited websites in listed format?

Thanks so much for the attention
