Internet Explorer 10 / 11 breaks Microsoft's group policies for proxy exceptions?

$

0

At one of our larger sites we've started experiencing a major issue with one of our collaborative web servers in that piles of users whose systems have automatically updated to Internet Explorer 10 are not adding the sites we've deployed via group policy to the proxy exceptions to their proxy exceptions (Internet Options | Connections | LAN settings | Advanced).

So basically we deploy a number of subnets and domain names to our proxy exceptions list and after our support center blew up with calls concerning random issues, I had the admins compile a list of affected and unaffected systems contrasting various items and we noticed the one similarity was Internet Explorer 10. Thousands of unaffected systems have Internet Explorer 8 / 9 while all those affected have Internet Explorer 10.

Is there a new way to deploy proxy exceptions? We thought about forcing them down via registry keys but felt there must be a less obtrusive method and maybe something is wrong.

IE 11 blocks access to "Microsoft Update" service

Using Windows Update on Windows 7 SP1, there is an option to enable "Microsoft Update" at the bottom to also update Office and other Microsoft applications:

Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more.

,

This opens a webpage, which in IE 10 and earlier, allows me to enable Microsoft Update.

However, IE 11 does not show the page to enable Microsoft Update but shows a useless and unrelated help message:

Use your Start menu to check for updates

How am I supposed to enable the optional Microsoft Update service now?

Hello There Everyone!

My company is running into a problem where Web browsers are not loading new versions of websites. My boss gave me the task of fixing this, by setting the IE Website Data settings.

I am trying to achieve these settings for everyone in the company. I am planning to do it using a GPO logoff script by editing the registry

My company is spread out to IE 9, 10 and 11 which makes it a bit harder.

I have found that running this command will fix the Check for newer versions of stored pages on all 3 IE versions:

reg add "HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings" /v SyncMode5 /t reg_Dword /d 00000003 /f

setting the disk space to use has been tougher

I found that this command will do the trick for IE 10, 11 but will not for IE 9.

reg add "HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings\5.0\Cache" /v ContentLimit /t reg_Dword /d 0008 /f

I have also looked for registry keys for IE 9 to change disk space to use, but have not found one. everywhere I look I find people saying this will do the trick:

reg add "HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings\5.0\Cache\Content" /v CacheLimit /t reg_Dword /d 8192 /f

but that has not worked for me.

So my questions are.

1) Does anyone know a registry key that will encompass all IE versions for "Disk space to use"?

2)  Or maybe this is not the best way of achieving the browser getting new versions of the website every time. If not any suggestions?

Thanks in advanced for your help and time.

Cheers!

Hello,

I came across lot of discussions and threads running over internet where in .wmv / .wma files won't play on IE 8/9.

Tried and followed many steps , but still the .wma files won't play on internet. Could you please let me know if downgrading WMP to 11 help in this case? Require your response on priority as many users using our application which makes use of IE to play the audio files are affected by this.

Thank You in advance.

Internet Explorer 10 New Tab problem

Ok, I’am domain admin and recently, I have created (under Windows Server 2012):

1. User IE 10 GPP (User Configuration > Preferences > Control Panel Settings > Internet Settings (Internet Explorer 10))

2. General IE GPO.

There is small number of Windows 7 SP1 x64 workstations with IE 10 installed, and there I have one big problem: IE 10 opentarget="_blank" links innew window instead of new tab!

In User GPP for IE 10, I have this settings:

No GPO is defined for tab behavior.

That GPP is successfully applied to the (Windows 7 SP1 x64 (with latest windows updates applied)) workstations with IE 10.

But, then the problem starts:

if user IS member local or domain admin group, IE 10 open links with target="_blank" in new tab.

If user IS NOT member of local or domain admin group, every target="_blank" is open in new window. Even CTRL + mouse click open normal links in new window, instead of new tab. Same as if I right click link and select "open in new tab" - new windows again!

I did reset IE settings (Internet Options > Advanced > Reset) couple of times on many workstations, it didnt help.

Please help me, tnx!

Organise Favourites shows blank after addons managed via GPO

After applying the "Deny all add-ons unless specifically allowed in add on list" GPO the "Organize Favourites" menu in Internet Explorer shows as blank with a black and white cross in the top left corner.

This is occurring in our Terminal Services environments

Roth server 2008 R2 and Server 2012 R2 are having this issue with IE8 and IE11

I was assuming that there would just be an add-on to enable and this would fix the issue, however when the policy is not applied and I go to "Programs\Manage Add-On's" in "Internet Options" and select "Run Without Permission" from the drop down box then disable all of the add-on's, the problem doesn't occur. since it only seems to be the GPO that causes this issue and we need the GPO configured, does anyone know a fix to this issue?

Kind Regards

Jon

IE9: Changing the default download option from 'save' to 'save as'

$

While I have sent feedback into Microsoft, I thought I might post here aswell.

In IE9 when you click a download, a pop-up from the bottom asks 'Do you want to open or save file.xxx from x.com' then gives you the option to 'Open' 'Save' or 'Cancel'

During testing, we found that users would just click 'Save' then not know where the file they downloaded went. After explaining that it was in the downloads, they complained that previously they just chose where to save the file and it saved there. Now they have to open downloads and copy paste to the location.

We could teach the users to always drop down and select 'Save as' but I can tell you it would be a lot easier if there was a group policy, or a default we can change so the default was 'Save as'

Other than that, I have no complaints :D.

IE 11 Internet Security Zone Protected Mode Problem

Hi All

We have a couple of random issues using IE 11 and was wondering if someone could shed a little light on it.

I think it boils down to an issue of the running of java but it's hard to pinpoint.

An example of the issue is present the below Technet article, it has expansion arrows on the left of the text that allow you to expand and collapse articles, this work in older version on IE and also other browsers, however in IE 11 they do not work until you uncheck protected mode from the Internet Security Zone:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398125.aspx

If left checked these not work, this issue manifests itself in various different ways depending on the site but the above is the clearest example. Scripting of Java applets is enabled as part of the default Medium-High setting.

Print Settings are not saved on IE8

Hi,

I have an issue with IE8 on WinxP. One of the Team prints envelopes from a web based application. But the settings wont stay for the print immediately as advised below.

Users need to select a certain size of envelope every time they print via web-based application (Internet Explorer). We are trying to resolve the issue so that Internet Explorer remembers their last selection. They are currently selecting DL Envelope each time they print.

Ozescribe(the application) initially wanted us to change the driver on the server to resolve the issue. We changed the driver but the issue still remains. The original driver has been put back.

Please advise of any better solutions

Seems to be the issue. The file is there and present and the installer is being run as local admin.

I have also tried to install KB947821 as seen on another forums with no luck.

Any ideas?

I wanted to deploy this silents to my client computers but on this test pc with the Default build its not looking good! =[

I am running version 11.0.9600.17207 on Windows 7 X64. This is the latest version to date. Here is the issue Im facing. When I enable the following GPO features below the back button in Internet explorer stops working correctly. what I mean is if I visit a webpage and want to use the back button its grayed out. If I remove the machine from the network add the user to the local groups and browse again to the same webpage it works. The policy settings below were the only ones applied to the machine at the time. Any ideas? I have a ticket open with Microsoft but no answers so far.

Internet Explorer 11 freezes/glitches when in Anz banking website and comes up" Anz isn't responding" and then closes down.

HI,

I've been having trouble with ( IE) Internet Explorer 11 version:(11.0.9600.17207IS )-(KB2962872) for over a year on my desktop with ANZ Internet banking, when i go into this website, it freezes and comes up" Anz isn't responding" and then inside of icon comes up "Recover Webpage" so I click that and then it comes up"Windows is checking for a solution to the problem" and then closes down.

But on my laptop I have no trouble with Anz and it has a different  version:(11.0.9600.17207).

Can some one tell me what the IS is on the end of the first version mean and how can I install the version without the IS on end of number on my desktop, as this version is causing the problem.

I have been in Microsoft Community with Yaqub Khan-Microsoft Support Engineer and he recommend me come here, as we have done many steps without problem fixed.

Do you know how I can copy that info from there to here, so you can see the steps we have already done, or can you go in there and see.

Thanks

Brewy
