I have an oddly specific problem that I can't seem to diagnose. Running IE11 on Windows 7 and trying to troubleshoot a problem where iexplore.exe processes are not ended when closing Internet Explorer.

In particular, this seems to be a problem when launching IE with a command line argument such as from a desktop shortcut or email link. And even more specifically, it only seems to be a problem when the URL in question fits the proxy bypass list that our corporation has set up.

I have found a similar issue on a Citrix message board (http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/332011-published-ie-and-session-staying-active-after-ie-is-closed/ ) but unfortunately this post didn't have a solution either.

Any ideas/suggestions would be most welcome.

I have a local network and all servers have internet access and I want to allow non-admin users whoever is connecting to windows server 2012 R2, they should only have access to limited websites which I wanted. Can I make it happen through GPO ?

Shortly, I just wanted only few websites to be allowed access on internet explorer. Please suggest your ideas.

Can anyone help me with the installation of the Chrome browser on a Windows 7 SP1 with Internet Explorer desktop computer? I would like to try it but a year or so ago I installed Chrome and I had an awful time with my computer. It really slowed down and had mouse lag. I could not figure out what was wrong so I uninstalled Chrome and it returned to normal. After the fact I found out that a couple of the, checked by default, settings in Chrome were PROBABLY the problem. The two settings enabled by default are under Chrome>Settings>System> “Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed”, and also “Use hardware acceleration when available”. two of the setting that are enabled by default. They are under Chrome>Settings>System> Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed. and also Use Hardware acceleration when available. two of the setting that are enabled by default. I have just come across a very odd problem...

We are talking Windows 10 and we are talking IE11...

Many of my customers still use IE11 under Windows 10. On Friday my customer said that she could no longer use IE11..

I checked her PC and sure enough it wouldn't work.. On further inspection I noticed that the iexplorer.exe file had physically disappeared from the users machine... I could see the directory C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ and I could see the other files and directories under there but iexplorer.exe was gone...!!

I tried going in to Add / Remove Features but it would not allow me to install it.... I tried everything to get it back but I just could not put it back, I even copied the file from another Windows 10 PC but it still would not run...

After hours of trying to get it to work I just gave up and did a re-install of the O/S leaving all the files and programs where they were.. This didn't work first time, but second time I ran it we were back to where we were... All very odd..., the machine has no viruses or malware but the iexplorer.exe file just disappeared..

I thought this was a one off, but I have just seen it on another Windows 10 machine.. It was there two hours ago, but the file iexplorer.exe has just gone!.. Again, I tried to put it back via Add / Remove Features and there was no option whatsoever in there to add IE11 as a feature?.

This time I did a System Restore to get it back...

Is the Microsoft removing the software..?

Our vulnerability scanner is showing multiple assets vulnerable to CVE-2017-8529. The original patches for this in June 2017 reportedly caused printing issues from IE and Edge, so Microsoft released additional patches to fix the printing issues. This included patches in September that had the mitigation for the CVE disabled by default, with instructions for how to enable it via the registry. My question is: is anyone aware of any printing issues that were reported after setting the registry keys to enable the fix the CVE-2017-8529?

Hey !

So brand new PC - HP thing - installed 8.1 and it's got IE 11 in it ..... logged in - got the usual MS crap and ads in bloody MSN.

Picked google.ca as the start page and EVERY TIME I close the app and re-open it I get more ads and MSN bullshit!!

And yea, I specifically went in to Tools - Options and selected Google and NOT bloody MSN as the home page and told the startup option below the address bar to: Start with Home Page - and picked that radio button.

So what MS "force their crap down your throat" is this now?? Getten so sick of MS getting more aggressive because their market share is going for crap!!

Hi,

OU is a website for online training course.

I have a user reporting me that she is unable to see her course content after she logs in to URL (www.ou.nl). There is a button at the top mijnOU when clicked on it the page displays login page correctly but after entering the credentials the page keeps loading on "waiting..." and after a minute it displays '' you must close all browser windows to be fully log out" - all these happens when accessing the URL from her company joined computer. It neither works on corporate LAN nor on Wifi.

Luckily, the same URL works fine on her Personal PC at home wifi.

As a first troubleshooting step:-

- I added the URL to Trusted list but no luck

- Added the site to compatibility in IE

- IE reset

- Password change

All steps did not solve the issue. Please guide or suggest something.

Hello,

Please note all testing has been done on Windows 10 1709 and 1803.

We are a financial institution and have the need to set compatibility view mode for The Federal Reserve. The sites are 170.209.0.2 and 170.209.0.3 (they are only accessible at a Financial institution with a Federal Reserve VPN router).

We've tried a login script method via Desktop Authority to set this registry key and we've also tried GPO to set this registry key. The key is HKU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\BrowserEmulation\ClearableListData\UserFilter. Desktop Authority sets the key without issue. GPO does not, so for this case we will continue to use Desktop Authority to set the key at login (or by running the login script out of the NETLOGON share).

Upon initial logon this is working as we check the Compatibility View Settings under IE11's Gear menu. We see these two sites plus 10 others. The site list was created on one machine and then exported as a reg key. I run process explorer and filter on Operation is RegSetValue and path contains UserFilter. I see our Desktop Authority login script correctly set this key, and its 518 bytes long. I launch IE and the sites are all there. But then at some point usually a minute or two later after closing IE, there are 10 additional RegSetValue from rundll32.exe slowly chipping away at the UserFilter registry key (going from 518 bytes to 476,436,388,356,298,254,216,184,144 then finishing on 104 bytes).

Now going into IE after rundll32.exe manipulates this key, all of those preprogrammed sites are GONE, except for two, 192.168.1.9 and myappro.com. These two are also in the bigger list so I'm not sure why only these two survive. I checked group policy and I cannot find anywhere this is being set, thats why I resorted to Process Monitor to try to figure out what is setting this. In the stack trace for rundll32.exe I see two items from inetcpl.cpl which are ShowHelpPageW and ClearMyTracksByProcessW using rundll32.exe so it looks like that is what is setting this key.

Any idea how or where its getting the two compatibility sites from? We do have a GPO set to delete history on exit, but if that were to delete compatibility sites, then ALL sites should be removed, not just two leftovers remaining in the list.

Unfortunately talking to the Federal Reserve's tech support is like speaking to a brick wall. They don't want to hear ANYTHING because they have their guard up all the time. The security there is very tight. They do not want to hear that setting X-UA-Compatible meta tag to the HTTP headers of their site would automatically make this work. The problem is if we go to do a wire transfer on their site, its just a blank white screen UNLESS its in compatibility view. They will not support other browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome). IE 11 must be used or the site will not work.

I am trying to open IE11 on windows server 2012 R2 as a different user but it doesn't get open opened up. It throws below error. Same with command prompt. How can we fix it? Can some one help? Are there any settings that can be changed.
