vba to dismiss an IE8 or IE9 "message from webpage" popup window

$

In excel or word, paste the following code into a vba normal module and run it.   The code goes to a public web site and tries to lookup a school.  The website pops up a "message from webpage" dialog that warns me that the the school number is not valid.

My program can detect that popup, but how can I reliably and automatically dismiss it?

I have a workaround that uses sendkeys but about 10% of the time the popup remains.

Does anybody have a solution that does NOT require sendkeys? The ideal solution would also work when objie.visible = false.

option Explicit
Private Declare Sub Sleep Lib "kernel32" (ByVal dwMilliseconds As Long)
Sub t1022()
Dim objie As Object
Dim i As Long
Dim htmlTable As htmlTable ' set reference to microsoft html object library
Set objie = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
objie.Visible = True

objie.navigate "http://www.slforms.universalservice.org/Form471Expert/471StatusCheck.aspx"
Do: Sleep 100: Loop While objie.busy

Set htmlTable = objie.Document.getElementsByName("txtBenId")(0)
htmlTable.Value = 12345
With objie.Document.getElementById("txtFundingYear")
    .Click
    .Value = 2013
End With

    objie.Document.getElementById("btnSearch").Click
    For i = 1 To 10
        Sleep 100
If Not objie.busy Then Exit For
    Next i
    If objie.busy Then
        MsgBox "popup detected"
    End If

End Sub

What is the "Windows Update v8" add-on/control?

I’m using Internet Explorer 11 on 64-bit Windows 7 SP1.

If I try to access the Microsoft Update Catalog using the following URL:

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/

the blue Microsoft Update Catalog page appears with the globe in the background, the URL changes to:

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Install.aspx

in the Internet Explorer address field, and the following pop-up appears with the message:

This webpage wants to run the following add-on: ‘Windows Update v8’ from ‘Microsoft Corporation’.

What is the “Windows Update v8” add-on/control? I can’t find any reference to it on the Internet.

IE won't connect to internet, but Chrome is working fine. Other software wont connect to internet either.

I just bought this laptop about 10 days ago to use specifically for a writing project separate from my other work laptop. It has Windows 7. It had Google Chrome installed (or maybe my brother installed it upon taking it out of the box.) I have used IE as my browser on this laptop once or twice, but mostly use Google Chrome. I downloaded some genealogy software I just bought today about an hour or so ago (Family Tree Maker 2012) and noticed that it would not connect to the internet to register- it kept saying "No internet connection". After trying a few things (allowing the program access through Windows Firewall, checking to make sure that "proxy server" tab was not checked in Internet Settings, disabling some Bing Maps and Windows Live email accelerators) and finally tried closing Chrome and opening IE to run in background instead. However, IE won't connect - keeps saying "Cant display webpage" although I am definitely connected to internet via wifi. I tried resetting Internet Explorer...no dice. I've restarted several times. Nothing is working. Any suggestions?

My husband thinks i should uninstall Chrome, which he guesses is causing all the trouble with both IE and the Family Tree software. But I'm afraid that if I uninstall Chrome and it doesnt work, i wont be able to get back on the internet since I can presently only do so through Chrome.

I dont have a whole lot of experience troubleshooting computers, so please be specific!

Thanks so much!

When trying to select text with consecutive preceding and trailing symbols in IE and Edge using mouse, they will automatically expand selection range to include unwanted symbols.

for example, when trying to do a text selection like this:

if you do it with mouse, then IE will automatically expand your selection range to this:

this problem will no occur if you do the selection with keyboard(shift + arrow keys)

is this a bug or a feature? if a feature, how can I disable it?

Oct and Nov Rollups (KB3185330 and KB3197868) Cause Internet Explorer 11 to Crash

$

Issue:

After installing KB3185330 or KB3197868, Internet Explorer intermittently hangs with the classic "Not Responding" error and you need to end task all instances of IE to get it working again.  There seems to be a connection between multiple tabs being open and IE crashing and I have not reproduced the issue running IE 11 with a single tab open.

Resolution:

In all cases, removing either KB3185330 (if the November Rollup has not yet been installed) or KB3197868 resolved the issue.

The obvious problem is both are critical updates so they will simply be installed again during standard update cycles.  And since this issue exists in BOTH the October Rollup and the November Rollup, manually excluding these updates will likely accomplish little as the rollups are inclusive so the December (or whatever month it is released in) will reintroduce the issue.

Note:

I own an IT consulting firm and have now seen this at 10 totally unrelated sites.  I have also seen plenty of other people complaining about it on the Web but there has been no answer from Microsoft.  I have completed extensive testing at these sites and the Rollups are 100% the cause of the issue.

Can anyone from Microsoft acknowledge this is a known issue and provide feedback on when it will be resolved?

And please, no "update your drivers", "disable add-ons", "start in safe mode", etc. checklist responses.

Branding and Predefined URL

$

I am trying to remove OEM branding from IE 11 in Windows 10. For the most part I have managed to get rid of most of it but there is one last thing that is proving tricky. This is a pre filled url in the dropdown IE address bar, which points to the manufacturer's support site unsurprisingly.

Obviously you can click the cross next to it and it will go, but will return upon any reset of IE.

I thought the answer may lie in the reg key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\

plus the corresponding HKLM keys also.

Having deleted the entire key, which contains every setting for IE, I sill see that upon any reset of IE (from advanced tab of internet options), the url returns.

So the question is really where is IE getting this information from at the point that it is reset. More to the point, where have the manufacturer hidden something somewhere that IE then pulls into it as it's default.

Many Thanks

I have a user that when they try to log into Duke Progress Energy's website at https://www.progress-energy.com/app/loginregistration/login.aspx it will redirect them to a "one time authentication" page which requires them to use a one-time key to log in on a new computer.  When going to this one-time website (secure8.i-doxs.net) it will get an error message that says...

This page can't be displayed

Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in the Advanced settings and try connecting to https://secure8.i-doxs.net again.  If this error persists, contact your site administrator.

Well, I'm the site administrator and I can confirm that TLS 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 are all enabled and forced by GPO.  Restarting IE and rebooting did not help.  Chrome and Firefox both work flawlessly.

Edit: This is IE 11 on Windows 8.1 Enterprise.

Why must this web site use only Internet Explorer?

Hello

I came across this site http://www.dogagent.com

On the front page it says "The pages are designed only to work in Internet Explorer 5.0 or later".

Can anyone explain why the site wouldn't work with another browser?

Ideas welcomed!

F5 Networks Firepass and Internet Explorer 11

I am running Windows 7 and recently appear to have been upgraded to Internet Explorer 11.

A Couple of days ago i was successfully using F5 Firepass (using IE 10). Today i cant use it...

After sorting out Kaspersky - which has started to consoder the logon as needing a secure keyboard entry (never did this before...),

I am getting warnings; (a) that Javascript is not enabled - it looks enabled to me...

(b) I need to install the F5 Browser plugin.

I have downloaded the plugin (NPuroamHost.dll), and the instructions are to 'unpack it into the plugins folder of your browser tree.'

Where on earth is this?

I found another post elsewhere with a similar problem - and the solution was to uninstall Internet Explorer 11. Amazing!

IE11 on Windows 10 won't open Favorites when Favorites are redirected and Enhanced Protected Mode is enabled

$

When you click on a Favorite in Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 (1607), IE only opens a blank page.

We could narrow that problem down - it apparently only occurs if Favorites are redirected to a file share and Enhanced Protected Mode ist enabled.

It works fine in IE11 on Windows 7 though using the same configuration (redirected Favorites + Enhanced Protected Mode).

Web Shortcuts Don't Open From Desktop Since Anniversary Update (IE11)

Web shortcuts don't open from Desktop since Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

With Internet Explorer ‘Enhanced Protected Mode’ switched on, when a shortcut to a webpage is opened from the Desktop, the shortcut doesn’t open.  Internet Explorer just shows a blank window.

With Internet Explorer ‘Enhanced Protected Mode’ switched back off, the shortcuts open as expected.

Was OK before Anniversary Update, so something in the update breaks compatibility with Internet Explorer ‘Enhanced Protected Mode’.

IE 11 Rendering problems with buttons

$

Recently a colleague came to me with an issue with a site we support for the FG. It seems that buttons for "editing" a comment box were not appearing, though their placeholders are there and if you "click" on them (for example: where the "B" should be to make the text "Bold", it actually does what it is supposed to; however a user would never know the "B" is there because it doesn't appear).

I found a similar problem on the Zillow.com website when viewing a map. As indicated in the pictures below, one version of IE 11 shows the Zoom In/Out buttons, but the other does not (just as we are experiencing with our website).

IE11.0.9600.17843 (working)

IE11.0.9600.17843 (working buttons)

IE11.0.9600.18524 (no working)

IE11.0.9600.18524 (no working buttons)

Does anyone have insight as to how/why this is happening and how to fix it?

Many thanks and blessings in advance.
