Cannot select from drop-down in IE10

We have an older application that offers a variety of drop-down lists from which the user is allowed to select values. In IE 10 the user cannot select values from drop-downs, this is not a problem in previous versions of IE. The drop-downs use JavaScript. We have tried altering the compatibility settings in IE 10 but that does not resolve the issue.
