IE10 replacing period in file extensions with underscores during download.

My environment is a VMware View implementation with multiple linked-clone VMs. We use ProfileUnity to capture the user's profiles and persistent data, as our VMs are set to refresh on logoff and purge their disposable disks. Users on these virtual devices are experiencing an issue with internet explorer 10 in which downloads are sometimes failing. When this occurs, the period/full-stop in a file extension will be replaced with an underscore (example: xyz.exe becomes xyz_exe, abc.zip becomes abc_zip). This behavior, once experienced, will persist for that user until they log off and their machine is refreshed. After logging back in they can download normally, at least for a short time before it occurs again. I have been unable to identify any distinct "trigger" for this behavior, its onset appears to be completely random.

During my troubleshooting I've determined the following in response to most posts referencing similar issues. If IE is launched with another user's credentials on an impacted machine, it behaves normally. Disabling "Protected Mode" for the appropriate Security Zones has no effect. "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" is already unchecked. And if you manually rename the file that is downloaded and change the _ to . the file will work as expected, meaning it's not corrupt.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I might continue to troubleshoot this issue?
