No microsoft.com server reachable - IE: Address is not valid - changes to http:///

Hi there,

I have a problem with a fresh set up Windows 2003 R2 EE server. All tested internet sites, including some with ssl support, are working fine and load normally. With typing "www.microsoft.com" in the address line the following error occurs:

"Address is not valid" and the address changes to "http:///". No online updates are possible. The error occurs with Internet Explorer, however Mozilla can't load www.microsoft.com neither. From command line an "nslookup www.microsoft.com" fails, but other addresses resolve normally and as expected. I've yet tried lowering the standard security level, checked trusted sites, cleared dns cache and browsed many sites/forums for possible solutions. Nothing helped so far. IE version is 8.0.6001.18702; 128bit SSL key strength.

Any ideas please?

Kind regards,

Stefan
