Unable to Revert to IE 8 from 9

To whomever it may concern,

I recently tried updating to IE 9 from IE 8 and didn't like it. I've done this before and was able to revert without issue, but this time I can't. I've done everything from numerous system restores that all fail with an "Unspecified error. 0x8007****" and even uninstalling the IE 9 update fails due to "an error [having] occurred. The update was not successfully removed." I also tried downloading and running Microsoft FixIt 50778 and it runs fine and everything, but doesn't fix the issue despite saying that it was successful. A scheduled Check Disk at bootup revealed a few unfixable errors, and a "sfc /scannow" in command prompt came back with a CBS.log error log file almost 100 mb in size. Everything was fine before I installed the IE 9 update. Now all my system restores including one that I made manually before the update are gone, and I can't get IE to work at all. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on a Dell Latitude E6410. I've tried everything that has been suggested on this and other sites but to no avail. Please get back to me at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
