I have Win 8.1 and I ran a registry cleaner that was suggested by PC World (so I thought it was safe...). Now the familiar IE comes up without error, but doesn't attempt to access the net. "Internet Options" is greyed out. I tried
removing it as a feature, then adding it back. No change. Now I suspect that I wasn't using the "feature" after all.
I'm still a desktop guy, and the link was removed from the taskbar. So, today I went to the new start page, found IE there, and started it.
This was the first time I'd seen this IE version, and I wonder if what I was using was 11 after all, as I thought it was. There is no help option showing on the inoperative IE so I see no way to find out. Using task manager I see it has the old
logo vs the new blue rectangle. I tried to uninstall the old one, but no IE program shows up there.
Meanwhile, my links go to the old dead IE. I tried to set defaults and ensured that IE is selected, but the link still goes to the old one.
