We've built our first 2012 R2 servers. IE11 will open in metro if it's not set for desktop mode. It will fail in desktop mode. It will however open if you go to an admin command prompt, go to c:\program files\internet explorer and run iexplore.exe. When trying desktop mode in the event app logs, event ID 102, task category (101) appears with the message "the program iexplore.exe version 11.0.9600.16518 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed". I have tried everything I've found using Google: reset, use software rendering, etc and nothing helped. Any suggestions?

This is on a Windows server 2008 r2. I am trying to allow users to watch help videos at a vendor site. If I remote desktop using the Administrator, I can play the videos and if I check the "manage add-ons", I see Windows Media Player as an extension.

If I remote desktop on as a "normal user" and try to view the same video, I get the error message "An add-on for this website failed to run" and if I check the "manage add-ons", Windows Media Player extension is not there. That makes sense, since if it is not there, it won't run.

Why isn't Windows Media Player extension showing up in IE 10 on the server for anyone other than Admin? How could I make this work? If I am somehow preventing this from taking place, where would I go on the server to change that?

I cannot seem to get HTML5 video working in IE11 on Server 2012 R2, in RDSH mode (Remote Desktop Session Host).

I have the Desktop Experience feature installed, and have tried adding the sites (e.g. youtube, vimeo) to trusted sites and cranked the security down to the lowest (medium-low) for trusted sites but nothing. I don't really want to have to use trusted sites anyway...

On YouTube I am getting the HTML5 right-click menu over the video area, but no video plays - just a buffering symbol spinning and then a black area where the video should be.

I tried changing the user agent to IE10 via the F12 tools, but no change.

I ran the suite of tests from peacekeeper.futuremark.com and most of the stuff worked, e.g. all the animations, but none of the video, especially videoCodecH264 showed as N/A.

www.w3.org/2010/05/video/mediaevents.html is giving "unknown error" in the video playback window.

I can make YouTube work by adding it to compatibility view, where it then drops back to using Flash player. This does not work for Vimeo.

I have minimal policy settings set on these servers at the moment.

Any suggestions would be most welcome, thanks in advance.

Hi,



I have been getting certificate errors from most of https websites on my enterprise computers (wich are on a network domain). The problema resides mostly in computers with Windows Vista x86 Business and Windows 7 x64 Professional with SP1. I started having this erros after Internet Explorer upgraded to version 10. Today most computers with Windows 7 on my network have Internet Explorer 11.



If I try to access https://www.google.pt it gives me a certificate error, if I try to acesshttps://login.live.com it also gives me a certificate error in Internet Explorer 11 and 10. I can access those websites with Firefox or Chrome. But there are a few websites that also do not work on those browsers either. I have a bionic software that I need to install and the installation method is done throught the web, and because of the certificate error it does not let me install it.



What is most odd is the fact that when I am installing a new workstation, before I join the domain, I can access those websites and I dont get certificate errors. Also, if I try to access those websites on my DNS server I dont get certificate errors either.



I tested this on some workstations without Kaspersky Endpoint Security Agent installed, but I still get certificate errors.



I do not know what else I can do really.



Can anyone help me out?

Scenario:

Users start IE10 as a published Xenapp Application. From there, they should be able to save pages, etc, but only to a network drive. They have no access to the local computer.

I've succeeded in removing network, Libraries and favorites from the download-dialog. I've also managed to point it to default save path to a network drive. However, the path field in the save-dialog still shows Libraries\Documents. Thus, they can click on Libraries, and browse, and access it that way. Which they will (trust me), just because they can.

So, why does it insist on referring to Libraries when I've removed all references to them? Anyone have a fix for this?

regarding the SHA1 deprecation policy Micrososft Security Advisory 2880823

I operate a private CA in a large organization with thousands of web based applicationi and hudreds of Mirosoft server components and tens of thousands of client computers.  If I want all my stuff to work after January 1, 2017 I need to:

1) Migrate all my end-entity certificates (website host certificates) to SHA2.

2) Convert my private root CA and intermediate CA certificates (certificate chain, chaining certificates) to SHA2.

3) Ensure the updated certificate chain (SHA2 hashed signature) is pushed to all server and client computers via GPO, etc.

Is this correct?  There has been some indication by other security "experts" that indicate the policy does not affect private CA's  I understand that MS via it's Root Certificate Program will only let new keys into the Browser (certificate store) that are SHA2.  But if I manually configure a SHA1 signed certificate in the certificate store or push out a SHA1 certificate in group policy, will it still work?  Will something else in Windows components stop SHA1 from working?  Or just that the default Roots and Intermediates shipped with the browser will only be SHA2?

My application uses special filetypes, that are associated with special scripts on domain-client computers.

When IE downloads this files (.rrpa files) than no security question (open or save) should appear.

In IE 8 and 9 this can be configured by registry entries:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute\ {0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

But this does not work anymore in IE 10 and 11.

How can this be done in IE 10 and 11?

How is the URL Compatibility used? what are the flags and conditions?

I assume that it can do Browser Emulation only for specific URLs?

Using Windows 7, IE 11

When I change security level for trusted sites to LOW under Custom Level >> Reset >> Yes it does not save the setting. Goes back to Medium. Running IE as Administrator makes no difference.

Any ideas?

I have scoured the net for an answer to this. I have 3 PC's with WMC/7. I use an HD Homerun Prime. Yesterday WMC would not play Netflix, reporting;

This happens with WMC AND trying to log on using IE11. Of course there is no intelligible information in the log files. Thing is, I can log on using Firefox and play vids fine out of Netflix, just refuses to work with IE 11 (or any previous version for that matter) on this one system. It works fine on my other 2 work stations, even after windows updates have run.

It is annoying, simply because the one PC (ACER REVO running w/7 - my media PC) was working fine then flatlined on Netflix with anything Windows.....only Mozilla plays fine. I'd really like to know what I can do so I don't have switch from WMC to Firefox. Just doesn't seem cricket. Any information you need, let me know and I'll post as soon as I get notice. Thanks. -B

I have updated to win 8.1 and find that some pages just wont load, sometimes theirs a big lag. eg

This page can’t be displayed

• Make sure the web address http://www.superrugby.co.nzis correct.
• Look for the page with your search engine.
• Refresh the page in a few minutes.

I copy this url and paste it to chrome and it opens the site.

This procedure does not always work tho, sometimes it wont open in either page?

Since a month I have a problem downloading attachments from internet. I have windows 7 64 bits and IE 11. The problem is that no file download dialog display on the screen, like before. Tryed to download with different browser - google chrome - working. I've tryed with safe mod, with no addons, with turned off firewall, MS esentials, maked many changes in security settings - but still nothing. Reinstall and restore IE 11 several times - again nothing. Also Ctrl + J not working. Please help me to fix that problem

I think if Microsoft were to mimic Chrome, and place the tabs for Internet Explorer at the top, this would give IE a tremendous boost in usability.

I primarily use Chrome at work almost entirely because of this feature, but I use IE for certain functions (i.e. remote tunneling, cloud uploads).  Having tabs at the top saves space.  This greatly enhances the user experience.  I mean, what is all that unused real-estate doing at the top of the IE window?

I have been using Internet Explorer a long time with Windows XP SP3. Just recently I needed to do a download for another application and after that download finished I was unable to use Internet Explorer, I downloaded IE8 to try and fix the problem. It didn't. Internet Explorer is the default browser but it will not open in any menus. I can't even open Help and support either, a lot of applications worn't open now for some reason. Any sugestions??

Hi,

I am a Google chrome user and I want to switch into IE11 on Windows 8.1.

But the problem is that I did not found anyway to block advertissements in IE.

Please, is there any extension or way to do so ?

I upgraded my laptop windows from 8 to 8.1. Now Internet explorer page is not opening, remained blank, no message. However Google chrome and Mozila is working smoothly without any problem. I un checked protection mode in Security option, but no change seen. Can anyone help me please.
