Bypass Proxy for Local Addresses - Office 365 connection/ Outlook 2010

$

0

This is a strange one.  Connectivity to Office 365 within our netwotk works fine although very slow for outlook 2010 client to initially connect. Once connected, it works ok.  I have done a netwotk trace using netmon to see if i can identify the reason for the slow startup (2 mins minumum for profile to load and for outlook to connect to exchange). The trace tell me that my local pc tries to make a direct connection to the office365 external IPs first, then tries the TMG proxy. Once it hits the proxy, it kicks into life and works.

So it looks to me like it thinks the external IP address of office 365 is an internal address and spends it time trying all the ip addresses until it trys the proxy.  At this point, theBypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses is ticked.

As soon as i untick this box, all traffic heads directly to the proxy and of course it connects like lighting.  The exchange settings proxy is set in outlook for "on fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" (tick is on) and the same for slow networks.

I cant for the life of me work out why it tries to connect directly to the external IPs first and not connect via TMG until i untick theBypass Proxy Server for Local Addresses

Would love any ideas that may assist.

SSRS Report Viewer display issues after KB2888505 and now KB2898785

After patch KB2888505 both IE 9 and IE 10 started displaying cropped images with horizontal scroll bars when viewing SSRS Reports.  These reports functioned and fit the screen without scroll bars prior to this patch and returns to normal once the patch is uninstalled.  There is no compatibility mode icon in the address bar and I have tried all browser modes in the F12 Developer Tools Menu with no change.  Rolling back KB2888505 was a temp fix for my users until KB2898785 was installed reverting back to the same cropped reports with the scroll bar.  The only versions of IE in my environment are 9 and 10 and upgrading to 11 is not an option at this time.  Others have reported this same issue so maybe we can get more visibility on TechNet.

Hello , I have the weirdest problem, In win 7 64 bit,  Updates were installed automaticly.

When installing Internet Explorer 11 Updates i noticed that the updates weren't installed successfuly, Internet Explorer doesn't work , it opens and closes right away.

I uninstalled internet explorer 11 update from control panel - installed updates, still doesnt work, i uninstalled also internet explorer 10 and 9 updates because the Explorer still didn't work.

The situation now is that in the installed updates there is no evidence of internet explorer at all, Internet explorer still opens and closes right away.

I tried installing Explorer 9,10,11  but it says i already have internet explorer installed, when i install 9 it says i already have 9 installed same for 10 and 11 says i already have a more recent version.

I'm helpless please assist...

Thanks,

Sarit.

How to force Internet Explorer 11 reinstallation after failure (detection issue)?

$

Hi,

I got a problem with the Internet Explorer 11 installation I received through Windows Update. It is on aWindows 7 x64 SP1 computer.

The installation failed, and Internet Explorer 11 doesn't appear under the Show Installed Updates section of Programs and Features.

Because of that, Windows Update tries to re-run the update, but keeps failing everytime.

My first idea was to download the IE 11 installer for Windows 7 x64 from Download Center and launch it; it fails with the error message "A more recent version of Internet Explorer is already installed".

When launching IE, effectively, the version is 11.0, but if I try to install an update for IE, like an IE 11 language pack or just a security update, it fails saying it doesn't apply to this system.

So basically, the IE installer detection logic says IE 11 is installed, while Windows Update says it is not, as for other updates related to IE 11. I have a tendency to believe Windows Update since it doesn't appear in Show Installed Updates.

I tried removing the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer registry key and its equivalent under SYSWOW64, no result. I also deleted the iexplore.exe file under Program Files\Internet Explorer and Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer, no result. Removing those files is not easy since you have to take ownership on each of them because of the default permissions that are very tight.

Does someone knows the detection logic of the IE 11 installer and tell me what I must do to force it to run and reinstall everything? Or someone who got the same issue and was able to recover from it?

I repeat, no need to tell me that I must remove it from Installed Updates under Programs and Features first, it is not there and this is probably why Windows Update tries to reinstall it every time.

Tnx for help

Patrick

"SCRIPT5: Access is denied" error when accessing web sites using LocalStorage

$

We are having an issue with Internet Explorer 10 affecting users on a number of our Windows 8 workstations. When a user visits a web site that uses the Local Storage feature of HTML5, the page is not displayed correctly. For example, if you visit this page:

http://jsfiddle.net/xFtQR/

You should see text in the grey boxes in the lower-right hand corner if everything is working. For the affected users, nothing is displayed. In addition, if you open the F12 Developer Tools and reload the page, the following error message is displayed: "SCRIPT5: Access is denied.". It appears the LocalStorage feature is broken for these users.

From the troubleshooting I've done so far, I've determined that this issue does not affect the Local Administrator account on these computers, but it does affect any domain user and any new local user I create, whether the local user is in the Administrators group or not. This leads me to believe the issue may be related to the default user profile in the image that was applied to these computers.

Other observations:

  • Performing a complete reset of Internet Explorer settings (from Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced) does not resolve the issue
  • These sites do work correctly after turning off Protected Mode for the Internet Zone (from Tools > Internet Options... > Security)
  • These sites also work correctly when InPrivate Browsing is turned on

I've tried using Process Monitor to determine whether access is being blocked to a folder. On a working computer, iexplore.exe creates a file within a folder at C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStore. I can't see anything on an affected computer that would prevent IE from creating this folder, as the security settings on the folder all appear to be correct.

The location of this folder appears to be stored in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\LowCache\Extensible Cache\DOMStore. I've tried copying this key from a working computer and blanking it out entirely to have IE recreate it, but neither resolved the issue. I've even gone as far as to try and compare an export of the registry from the default user profile from a working system and an affected system but I haven't been able to pinpoint any differences which I thought might be relevant.

I've tried the "Internet Explorer Performance" and "Internet Explorer Safety" troubleshooters in the Control Panel.

Here are some links to articles on other sites which make reference to the same (or a similar) issue:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie10-windows_7/ie10-script5-access-is-denied/e87bdb30-7f2a-4510-bfa3-a22b995f777b
http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/357825-ie10-script5-access-is-denied
https://github.com/meteor/meteor/issues/1291

Unlike these other cases, deleting an affected user's profile does not resolve the issue (further bolstering my theory that the issue is due to an issue in the default profile in my case).

Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide!

I have a web page that I display in a kiosk setting using a touch screen.  Viewers, often use the multi-touch "pinch" feature to zoom in on images, then walk away, leaving the page zoomed in.  Is there any way through css, javascript, vbscript, etc. to make this system reset to 100% zoom level periodically or whenever the page is reloaded (I have it auto-refresh every two hours)

Multiple instances of Internet Explorer in task manager using 100,000 KB+ memory

Hi! I recently got a virus on my computer that causes multiple instances of explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe to appear in my processes tab of task manager. Over the course of about a minute, the memory usage of each begins to climb rapidly until all of my memory is being used by these. These do not appear in my applications, nor do they actually open up an internet explorer window. When I end task on them, another one appears about a minute later to take its place and do the same thing again. Additionally, when I click shut down to turn my computer off, various advertisements flash on my screen for a few seconds before the computer begins to shut down. When the computer is started up, a window appears for a split second that contains only blackness. I have never seen this window appear before the virus was obtained. When I end task on all my explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe applications at the same time, my desktop vanishes, but it also stops those applications from reappearing.  This virus has caused my computer to run unbearably slow. I have tried Spybot S&D, Exterminateit, AVG, Roadkill, and other methods and nothing seems to detect this or cure it. I am not that good with computers, but I am dying for help on the matter! If you can assist, please let me know what I can do with detailed instructions for my sake! Thank you!!!!!!

IE 11 won't install and IE 10 won't uninstall (Error 9C47)

I use a Toshiba Satellite laptop and Windows 7.

I'm sure many others have had the problem of Windows Update refusing to let Internet Explorer 11 install (Error 9C47). I have tried troubleshooting. In the updates section, the "important update" is IE 11, but one of the "optional updates" is IE 10. However, I already have IE 10 installed on my computer, shown in my Installed Updates.

I tried uninstalling the IE 10 shown in my Installed Updates but it will not uninstall, saying it "cannot be completed." This is the same message that comes up after trying to install IE 11.

I have also tried installing IE 11 directly from the site, which comes up with the same error. I tried to install IE 10 from the site as well, but the error message said I already have an updated version installed.

Please help, this is driving me insane.

windows 7 network access denied ie9

$

I have mapped a drive letter to files that I use daily.

If I use explorer or any application to open a file I have no issues other than when I disconnect from an internet cafe - then I sometimes no longer have access to the share drive and have to navigate from the root.

The bigger problem though is when I use IE 9 (same problem with earlier versions) and try to add files to email. Other programs run via IE have the same problem but this is a common example and easy to reproduce ---

Load IE 9, then go to Yahoo Mail, create a new mail and try to add a file to send the person. If you try to click on a mapped drive you will get a network access denied message.

This same task, on the same machine works fine with the other browsers - it is only IE that fails.

Any idea?
