Is there any way to hide the Address Bar ONLY in IE11

$

I am trying to limit access to specific URLs in an internal network. The plan would be to remove the address bar in IE so they cannot type in addresses. Users would then have web page with links to each required URL.

I am trying to figure out a way of removing the address bar ONLY, leaving the navigation buttons (back/forward) in place.

I have found some conversations about this:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/137b5862-bf2d-4feb-8044-e19bd677cd6f/locking-down-ie11?forum=ieitprocurrentver

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/634ca4fc-acdc-4dff-a4eb-e2892caeb240/how-to-remove-the-address-bar-in-ie9?forum=ieitprocurrentver

However as mentioned in these discussions NoAddressBar no longer works and NoNavBar removes the address bar but also the navigation buttons (back/forward). 15-20 years ago web designers would include back and forward links in web pages but they do not do this any more so this is a bit of a pain.

I get that there is the option of using keyboard shortcuts but users do not know these and ... well they are users so might not be that willing to learning them.

Has anything changed since the above links? Is there any way of achieving what I am after here?

Thanks in advance.

Group Policy favorites no showing up on IE11

We have a group policy that adds URLs/Favorites and Links for Internet Explorer. Most of our computers get these Favorites added to  their explorer. (Both Windows XP and Windows 7)

It appears that the computers with IE 10 and above are not getting all of our group policy settings. Seems to get the other group policy settings except Favorites.

Our domain controller is a Server 2008 standard.

Dear Microsoft:

My Internet Explorer keeps not working, with varied excuses like I did not choose a connection or Internet Explorer has stopped working. This has gotten totally out of hand. I need to have a functional computer, not a defective non working one.

Can anyone help me with this? I have deleted my history, etc. and cleared my disk drive. I have done all I can think of, still the mess continues.. I'm at my wit's end..

Please help me!

Sincerely,

Marta A. Sloane

Microsoft SSRS 2012 RSClientPrint ActiveX component doesn't install/run within IE 11

$

All,

We are running into an issue, where we see that the "print" button as available on the Microsoft Reporting Server site does not work on our Windows 7/8.1 systems. When pressing the button, a popup appears with the message "Printing is not available. Verify that ActiveX is enabled, or try using Internet Explorer for  the desktop."

I have added the site to trusted sites, and allowed download and run of signed ActiveX controls, as described here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155874(v=sql.110).aspx ).

I have configured the ActiveX Installer service, as described here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd631688(v=ws.10).aspx). After that action I see in the eventlog the following:

The ActiveX control http://server/Reports/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?ReportSession=ao4hl1rhljvuac45oppnij55&Culture=1043&CultureOverrides=False&UICulture=9&UICultureOverrides=False&ReportStack=1&ControlID=e667391f2e7b4fa48db718cdfe60e61c&OpType=PrintCab&Arch=X86 from host URL http://mesbrouwen passed all policy checks.

....seems like the ActiveX object is marked as "ok"... but even then the file is not installed. Looking at a Process Monitor dump, I see the cab-file (RSClientPrint-x86.cab) is downloaded, but never reaches "Windows\Downloaded Program Files".

I would like to avoid having to deploy the component using a package. Does anyone have an idea? (googling around didn't provide me any answers that work for me -> which where the options mentioned above)

Help is greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Sjoerd

Internet Explorer 11 installation WMI Timeout KB2729094

Hey,

I have a lot of Win7 SP1 PCs here on which I receive an WMI timeout error during Internet Explorer 11 installation.
Error is the following (always with the same hotfix):

WMI query for Hotfixes timed out. Query string: 'Select HotFixID from Win32_QuickFixEngineering WHERE HotFixID="KB2729094"' Error: 0x00040004 (262148).
If I run the same query in powershell it takes long, but it ends with success.
Get-WMIObject -Query $('Select HotFixID from Win32_QuickFixEngineering WHERE HotFixID="KB2729094"') -Namespace "ROOT\CIMv
What I already tried was to reinstall the hotfix.
I although applied hotfix KB2834140 of slow WMI and tried to repair the WMI with following batch:
sc config winmgmt start= disabled
net stop winmgmt /y
%SYSTEMDRIVE% >nul
cd %windir%\system32\wbem
For /f %%s in ('dir /b *.dll') do regsvr32 /s %%s
wmiprvse /regserver
winmgmt /regserver
net start winmgmt
for /f %%s in ('dir /b *.mof *.mfl') do mofcomp %%s
But all without success. If I reistall the device installation works without problems, but it is not possible for me to reinstall nearly all my devices newly.

Thank you for help in advance.

Using vaultcmd To Create Web Credentials

$

Hi,

I am trying to create a logon script for Windows 8.1 using vaultcmd for a few users that will populate web credentials.

The command I'm using is formatted like this:

vaultcmd /addcreds:"Web Credentials"

/credtype:"Windows Web Password Credential"

/identity:email@domain.com /authenticator:password

/resource:"https://www.website.com/"/savedBy:"Internet Explorer"

It creates the credentials in the Credential Manager, but they do not populate when I surf to the website.

When I save the credentials using IE11, a file for the credentials is created in the same location, and the credentials look identical to ones created by vaultcmd in the Credential Manager.

However, when I create the credentials with IE, they populate on the site and everything works as intended.

What might I be doing wrong?

Programmatically add passwords to the windows web credential vault

Is there a way to add passwords to the stored web credentials in Windows 10 that Edge will use?

I was trying to utilize vaultcmd and got the password to show up in control panel under Web Credentials, but Edge and IE will not use them:

>vaultcmd /addcreds:{4BF4C442-9B8A-41A0-B380-DD4A704DDB28}
  /credtype:{3DDC5488-98B9-4B10-A326-9487435AA3C22}
  /identity:email@domain.com /authenticator:password
  /resource:"https://www.website.com/"
  /savedBy:"Internet Explorer"

Querying the vault gives me:

>vaultcmd /listschema

I guess there is a problem with the "(100,D5B63C4E5625D84CA48DC755C737CBA6)"-thingy that my added credentials are missing, but I do not know what that is good for and how to add it. D5B63C4E5625D84CA48DC755C737CBA6 is no recognized guid for neither a vault nor a credtype.

Is there any way to add several passwords to the vault, that will actually be used? I'd very much appreciate some help!

How to enable the Java Plug-in via GPO or command line

$

We have updated about 400 Windows 7 x86 computers to the latest Java version.

Since the update a lot of people are calling us that the Java plug-in is disabled.

What caused the plug-in to be disabled is a total mistery since we did nog change any settings, just pushed the msi to install the new version (via SCCM2012 Application,   command line: msiexec /i "jre1.8.0_111.msi" /q )

It is possible for our users to manually Enable the plug-in again by going to the 'Manage Add-ons', but we'd like to force the applet to be enabled in I.E. automatically.

Can anybody help with this issue?

Things that I tried already:

Working with deployment.properties (deployment.webjava.enabled=true)
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\DeploymentProperties   ; added deployment.webjava.enabled with value true
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93}   ; changed Flag value
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\ (11.121.2 in this case)   ; checked the UseJava2IExplorer key but it already had value 1

E-mail picture not working properly on Internet Explorer/Windows 10 build 1607

Hi,

We are using Outlook 2016 and Windows 10 (1607) and we are running into a weird problem.

In internet explorer (11.576.14393.0) if we right-click on an image/e-mail picture. Outlook will open a new email but the attachment will be named: (2) without any extension. (see image)

https://i.imgur.com/LsI61BB.png

We made some research and the file is actually an HTML file. If open the file with internet explorer, the image will show. If we change the extension  to .jpg the image will open correctly.

We are trying to figure out why is the image not attached correctly in Outlook. We tested on several computer that have the same version and they all have this issue.

We also tested on a windows version 1511. On this version the problem does not occur. If you try to E-mail picture, attachment manager will pop-up and attach the email correctly to outlook. (see image)

https://i.imgur.com/hkTgKS7.png

We are trying to figure out what changer on the version (1607) that would cause this issues.

Proxy failure detection

Hi Team,

I need to understand how IE detect primary proxy failure and fail over to secondary proxy defined in PAC file?

Is it based on internal IP (Network layer) reachability or external website reachability (Application layer)?

Edge - Yammer always asks for user credentials

Our customer utilize O365 sharepoint intranet and Yammer is in use. Yammer is integraded inside first page view, and it does not authorize automatically. Even if user inputs email and password, marks "Remember me", after closing Edge and re-open it again, you still need to re-enter your credentials.

I have no other place left than using this forum for this issue...

- I can´t use Feedback app of Windows 10 because of telemetry
- Edge uservoice is for developers...

(or should I open a free ticket to Azure support team?)

Please remember to mark my post as an answer, if I really helped you out, or vote if usefull. Thank you!

Compatibility View Settings

We have a web-based application that uses IE9, with Display intranet sites in Compatibility View checkbox unchecked.  The problem is other web-based applications require that this checkbox be checked.  Is there a way to create an icon that will open this in IE with the checkbox unchecked, but still allow for it to remain checked in the other application?

Internet Explorer 11 - Windows 10 32 bit - Error displaying a page.

$

We are experiencing this error with a page we are trying to open from Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 32 bits that is not occurring on IE 11 on Windows 10 64 bits.

This is happening in all machines that we tried. It worked in our development environment and in the Bank environment on 64 bit Win10, and it fails in both environments in 32 bits Win10.

Also, we tried in physical and virtualized machines and the same happened.

The versions of IE11 (as shown below) are:

IE11 on 64Bit Win 10: 11.0.10240.16384

IE11 on 32bit Win 10: 11.306.10586.0

If we open the URL on IE11 on a Windows 10 64 bit, the pages displays fine:

On Windows 10 32bits, using the same URL, IE tries to “recover” the page several times, until it displays an error:

Disabling “recover mode” from IE settings also didn’t help, as IE hungs or shuts but nothing is displayed.

I’m attaching:

Thanks
