Internet Explorer 10 / 11 breaks Microsoft's group policies for proxy exceptions?

At one of our larger sites we've started experiencing a major issue with one of our collaborative web servers in that piles of users whose systems have automatically updated to Internet Explorer 10 are not adding the sites we've deployed via group policy to the proxy exceptions to their proxy exceptions (Internet Options | Connections | LAN settings | Advanced).

So basically we deploy a number of subnets and domain names to our proxy exceptions list and after our support center blew up with calls concerning random issues, I had the admins compile a list of affected and unaffected systems contrasting various items and we noticed the one similarity was Internet Explorer 10. Thousands of unaffected systems have Internet Explorer 8 / 9 while all those affected have Internet Explorer 10.

Is there a new way to deploy proxy exceptions? We thought about forcing them down via registry keys but felt there must be a less obtrusive method and maybe something is wrong.

Is IE 8 considered HIPAA compliant

We are having a debate about whether or not IE 8 is considered HIPAA compliant.  I know in order to remain HIPAA compliant, you much continue to provide security updates in order to stop vulnerabilities with the application.  So if Microsoft stops issuing updates for IE 8, would that not mean that IE 8 is no longer HIPAA compliant?

I'm trying to move forward with IE 10 as I believe it will provide the functionality I need, but first have to back up my argument about HIPAA compliance.

I have searched but have come up empty on this, at least definitively.

The Life Cycle page for IE says "Releases known as Components follow the Support Lifecycle of their parent Major Product."

So, I am wondering, since Windows 7 shipped with IE8 as the installed version,  the parent would presumably be Windows 7, which would make IE8's support lifecycle the same, correct?

Thanks

IE 11 Not working

Hi,

Windows 8.1 is updated and IE 11 default browser not working at all.

It doesn't even open when we launch it, if we use metro IE app and then open desktop IE it opens, without no error.

I have tried every possible thing I could find on Google, such as : resetting IE, using software rendering, windows update, disable and enable it and many other can't even remember now.

All I know that we can't downgrade it and the update(KB2901549) for IE 11 is not working too, I installed it using CMD.

What do you suggest now ?

:)

Disable IE from auto-updating for users on Windows Terminal Servers

Hello,

I manage a client network that runs multiple Windows virtual terminal servers that users connect to on a daily basis, using virtual desktops rather than their local PC. A user tried to access a business tool via Internet Explorer and it wasn't working correctly. Come to find out IE had updated itself to version 11, which we do not want to happen. What's the most efficient method for disabling IE from auto-updating or even fetching updates and sending alerts to the user on the terminal server login session?

The terminal servers are running Windows Server 2003 R2 and 2008. Our DC is Server 2003 R2.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: We do not run a WSUS server.

File Download open doesn't open when clicking link in Outlook

We have an application that sends emails to our users with links to files.

When the user clicks on the link in Outlook, the "File Download" window opens. The users click on "Open" and our application gets launched. The application is a ClickOnce application.

For some reason most of our users can open the files like this, just fine, but for one of our users it doesn't seem to be working at all.

He is using IE8, but for other people with IE8 is working fine. When he clicks on the link in Outlook 2010 the "File Download" opens. But when he clicks on "Open" the "File Download" gets closed, and nothing else happens. The ClickOnce app doesnt seem to be launching at all. However if he instead saves the file locally, and then clicks on it, the file opens just fine in the associated application.

What could be the reason for this problem? We would like to get an error message or something, but we don't get anything.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Does IE 11 requires that IE 10 and IE required updates to be installed in order to install IE 11 or I can go directly?

Hi,

We are currently in IE 9.  We are skipping IE 10.  I know that there are required updates that needed to be installed with IE 10.  Now that IE 11 is out, is there a need to install IE 10 and its required updates or can I simply go directly to IE 11 from IE9?

I went here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2847882 but I dont see where it says that it requires IE10 or unless it assumes I have IE 10 already before installing IE11.

IE 11 does not recognize my network printer

I can print from Word and Excel (so I know it is not a PC or network problem) but I cannot print from IE 11 or OneNote. Those applications do not recognize that there is a network printer available.

inetcpl.cpl will not update to IE10 version on Server 2008 R2

Good morning,

We have some 2008 R2 terminal servers that seem to retain the GUI from the legacy inetcpl.cpl. Therefore the setings prescribed in the GPO created with the IE10 (Windows8) admx template will not apply. Specifically the inetcpl.cpl -> Security -> Local Intranet -> Sites button opens the legacy GUI associated with IE8.

IE10 Scrollbar color issue

I have installed IE10 and I am wondering if there is a way to change the color of the scrollbar.  The light grey is so light it's hard to see.  I have tried a few things and searched around and come up with nothing.  I love the preview otherwise and would like to keep it but this one thing might make me use another as I swap back and forth between IE and Comodo Dragon.

Thanks in advance,

Configuring Connection Settings in IEAK 10

We have users in our environment that are being re-directed currently to an Automatic Proxy URL, and we need to disable user functionality to change their LAN Connection settings in IE 10, but I cannot find that option. In other words we don't want them to go to Internet Explorer Settings, Connection Settings, LAN Settings, and turn off the automatic configuration Script.

Where in IEAK 10 can we disable this feature?

how to use Internet Explorer 11 64 bits rather than the 32 bit version, on Windows 7 familial premium 64 bit

$

Hi,

my system : up to date computer, W7 familial premium (64 bit), Internet Explorer 11 (32 bit)

I use this computer on the web to visit just one website, always the same and several hours a day ; this site advocate the use of Internet Explorer 64 bits for more efficiency.

How can I get to install, or switch to the 64 bit version of Internet Explorer, as presently when I try to install a downloaded version, I get as an answer something like "installation not possible because the more up to date version of Internet Explorer is already installed on your computer". Thanks

Limiting Internet Access for Certain Users on One PC (Active Directory)

I have been looking for quite some time, and haven't found a suitable answer... Maybe it's not possible, but here is my last ditch effort; to see if anyone can point me in the right direction:

Scenario:

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Domain Joined PC accessed by two users:
User #1 has admin rights and needs full access when working on this computer.
User #2 has no admin rights and only accesses local and shared documents and the internet.

Problem:

User #1 wants to have full access to the internet, but limit #2's access to three specific web sites, one is intranet site.

Can this be done? I'm not really concerned whether this is done via GPO, or a local configuration.

EDIT: I was thinking to place the restriction on the computer settings for IE, then have User #1 access the internet using Firefox, and remove #2 access permission to Firefox, forcing User #2 to use IE.

Internet Explorer 9 Forcing 64 bit on domain

$

Here's the issue we're running to throughout our domain. Last week we deployed Internet Explorer 9 via WSUS to all our domain PCs. At first we didn't think there were any issues but we soon discovered any domain user or admin logging into a station for the first time windows will auto default to IE 9 64 bit.. Users with profiles on the machines before the roll out for some reason remained unaffected by this and windows defaults to 32 bit auto for them... But if we clear their profile off the machine again we're able to recreate this scenario where windows auto defaults to 64 bit. Launching the 32 bit version from the start menu launches the 64 bit version because the shortcut for it auto points to the 64 bit location.

The only way we've been able to remedy this on a per user basis that works every time is by having the user logged in, going to their start menu and changing the 32bit shortcut from C:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe to C:\program files(x86)\internet explorer\iexplore.exe. Now from here we can finally re-pin the icon for that specific user while terminal server'ed in with them and it fixes the problem.. We can also go direct to C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer and pin the icon from here which also seems to fix it. But still in the start menu the shortcut would be incorrect if we didn't change that. IE will default 32 bit through the pin and through the IE shortcuts on the desktop once these changes are made.

What we're looking for is a solution we can roll out to the few hundred stations\users we have.. We constantly have users moving around so we need something we can either deploy through psexec, GPO, etc. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Why do some .aspx pages prompt for open or save?

$

Using IE8 under Win7 we encounter a problem where certain .aspx pages prompt for open or save as opposed to running in IE.

This issue seems to exist when other browsers (Chrome for Business and Frontmotion Firefox) have been installed. It's as if IE has lost the association.... However, some .aspx pages seem to open fine, so it doesn't appear to be a global association issue.

I am trying to understand which association and/or security settings control this type of behaviour and how the installation of another browser might effect them.

I'd be grateful for any pointers in trying to understand how this all hangs together...

Thanks

David
