Hi all,

i have a file type: .tsv that i want to auto-open with s custom app we wrote (skip the download/open/save dialog)
i use this command to check IE version: reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" /v version

on IE 11.9600.18349
i added these reg values and it works great:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.tsv]
@="tsv.MyTSV""Content Type"="tsv"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.tsv\PersistentHandler]
@="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.tsv\ShellNew]
@=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tsv.MyTSV]
@="My TSV File""EditFlags"=dword:00012710"BrowserFlags"=dword:00000008

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tsv.MyTSV\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Office\\MyTSV\\xlicons.exe,5"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tsv.MyTSV\Shell]
@=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tsv.MyTSV\Shell\open]
@=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\tsv.MyTSV\Shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft Office\\MyTSV\\myTSV.exe\" %1"

now some PCs updated to 11.9600.18524 and the regs stopped working...

any ideas how i can avoid the download window and auto-open an app in new IE11 version?

thanks for all the help and time,

Sean Noy.

Powershell getElementById() not working with IE11‏ security

Dear IE team,

The following code which I initially found not working and also confirmed by MVP Chen V, returns null with IE11 on Win 2012 server (post in Powershell forum):

"

Vote

May be not related but just give a try by enabling compatibility view in your Win 2012 browser

"Strange in either way its working for me. This is definite IE settings issue.

give a try with below code

$url ="http://www.facebook.com"
$username="emailid"
$password="password"
$ie =New-Object-com internetexplorer.application;
$ie.visible = $true;
$ie.navigate($url);while($ie.ReadyState-ne 4){Start-Sleep-Milliseconds1000;}
$ie.Document.getElementById("email").value = $username
$ie.Document.getElementByID("Pass").value=$password
$ie.Document.getElementById("loginbutton").Click();

Regards Chen V [MCTS SharePoint 2010]

"

We suspect it was due to default IE security setting, but I was not able to make it work after

1) enable compatibility setting for facebook.com

2) disable IE Protected mode

Please help with this problem!

.PDF File extension being stripped from download Internet Explorer (also certain sites not loading in IE but will in Chrome)

$

A really weird issue has arisen on a 2012R2 Terminal server.

In IE or Chrome, when a PDF is downloaded, the file extension will be stripped from the name. (.exe and .zip files do not appear to suffer)

For example items on this page, beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/03452791/filing-history

Download from the site without the file extension on them and need to have it added manually.

This happens in both Chrome and IE11 but do not appear to happen at our other customers or even in our own office.

Second Issue is related to the same customer, in that on the same terminal server certain sites will not load in IE but will load perfectly in Chrome.

The following page is a PDF as well so it might be a related issue, when trying to load it in IE they get a "This page can't be displayed" This happens with other sites but I do not have a list of them at the moment.

http://goo.gl/fAhGE6 is the shortlink for it.

The weirder thing is that their other servers have no problem with this site and they all use the same server for DNS as well.

For opening PDF files we currently have Foxit Reader installed. Which has worked perfect over the past 2 years.

Can anyone think of a setting that might be causing it?

Closing tabs causes I.E. to hang

Hi

I have been experiencing a strange issue on my 64bit Win7 Pro machine running I.E. 11. Note that the option to 'Install new versions automatically' is checked and that we use WSUS on a Win 2012 R2 member server to deliver updates.

What happens is that I will be using I.E. to research a topic. I'll have my default home pages open (BBC and our intranet), plus a Google Search page, and search results pages will be open as well (I have it configured so that results open in a new tab). I may have 4 tabs open or sometimes more, but rarely more 6 or 7 tabs at any one time.

I have found that if I close the tabs individually (from right to left), I can close one or two but then I.E. may become unresponsive. The contents of the last tab I closed (which disappears as it should) become visible on the next tab - meaning that if the next tab's contents were a search results page, they are not visible and are replaced by what was just visible.

I have to use Task Manager's Process tab to 'End task' all remaining instances of I.E.

I have uninstalled Google Toolbar and downloaded and installed the latest version in case the behaviour was caused by an old version but the issue persists.

The problem is intermittent but happens at least once a day.

Anyone else seen this behaviour or know what may be causing it and how I might fix it, please?

Thanks!

heat maps are too big when printing from internet explorer 11

We are having a problem printing heat maps from IE 11 on a single page but only from a few machines. The heat maps are sized on the web page to print on a single page and they do from both Firefox and Chrome. However, in IE 11 it's like it has zoomed in to about 300% of normal and ends up being split across three pages with everything on the page magnified. This only happens with our heat maps. We have other maps on the same web site that print just fine on a single page from IE 11.

By testing we have determined that the problem is either machine or browser specific on certain machines only. All of the machines that have the problem are Windows 7 OS with IE 11 version 11.0.9600.18499, Update Versions: 11.0.36 (KB3191492). The browsers are set to install new versions automatically. The kicker is that other machines that don't have the problem are also running Windows 7 and the exact same version of IE 11. So, it almost has to be a specific setting in the browser or maybe something different in the registry of the individual machines. Since it's only a few machines here at our office we wouldn't worry except that the web site, when all the wrinkles are ironed out will be available to the general public. It is currently being used by a couple of hundred beta testers who might want to print these heat maps for their clients. We figure if it's happening on a few machines here in the office, it's bound to happen to other users, too.

Is this a known problem or have we found something entirely new.

Internet Explorer 11 Desktop verison does not always load pages at startup

$

Hi,

I am having an issue that is driving me mad and I know that others have had the same issue but I can’t really find any threads online that will help med solve the problem.

When I open IE 11 as a regular user (no admin privileges) it does not always display the start page. The loading “circle” on the tab keep spinning as if it is trying to load the page but nothing happens. Now if I open another IE11 browser it could work perfectly in the new browser window.

It does not matter if I try another URL, it does not matter if I open a new tab.
If the start page does not load then no other page will load either.

Scenario 1:
I open 10 IE11 browsers and all of them load the start page perfectly

Scenario 2:
I open 10 IE11 browsers none of them could load the start page

Scenario 3:
I open 10 IE11 browser and anywhere between one to all ten of them will start page perfectly.

The issue is not the start page as I have tried with msn.com google.com, you name it I have tried it.

Protected mode is OFF.

Hardware acceleration is OFF.

This is a brand new installation and it does not matter if I do the installation once or ten times. The same issue still occur. I am running the latest Enterprise release Win 10 OS from November 2015.

I am a senior system admin so I know what I am doing and what to look for.
In this case however, I am totally lost as I do know how what on earth could be causing the issue

If I run iexplorer.exe as an administrator however, then it works every time, but this is not a solution as domain users do not have admin privileges and will never have.

Here is a perfect example of when I have opened multiple IE11 browsers.
As you can see 4 of them are not loading the start page

All questions/tests below have been tried

1) Which version of Internet Explorer do you use? Is it Desktop version or the Modern version?
2) What is the exact/complete error message?

Method 1: Run the Internet Explorer performance Troubleshooter.

Please follow the steps given below to perform the Internet Explorer performance Troubleshooter.

a) Press Windows + W together.
b) Write Troubleshooting in the search box right up corner and hit enter.
c) Click on Troubleshooting tab.
d) Click on view all option on the upper left corner.
e) Select the Internet Explorer Performance options from the list.
f) Click on Next to perform the troubleshooting.

Method 2: Open Internet Explorer 10 in no-add ons mode and check if you’re able to load the websites.

Follow the steps given here.

a) Press the ‘Windows Keys +X key on the desktop.
b) Select Run.
c) In the Run window type ‘iexplore –extoff’ and click ‘OK’.
d) Now try to open the websites to check if you’re able to load the websites.

If the issue does not persist in Internet Explorer (No Add-ons), then it is one of the add-ons causing this issue. Please follow the steps below to locate the problem add-on low:

Disable add-ons from here:

a) Open Internet Explorer.
b) Select the Setting (Gear) option from the top right corner.
c) Select Internet Option. Go to the Programs tab.
d) Select Mange Add ons option in front of Enable or disable browser addons installed on your computer.
e) Re-enable the add-ons one by one and check with which Add-on you get this error message.
f) Disable the Add-on causing the problem.

You can go ahead and try the step which you have mentioned to disable the Nortan security software temporarily and check for the issue.

Warning: Security software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

InternetExplorer.Application is always busy after a form submitting (http post), crashes after any navigation command and wont update its innerHTML

Hello! I have a great problem, seriously stuck. A week(!) of reading forums, FAQs, tons of docs and code examples, chatting with coders, testing some variants adopted from another languages — nothing helps.

I should solve my task using JScript and default windows environment tools to launch this script on any machine without any special software installed (soPhantom.js, AutoIT, Selenium etc are not suitable for the project)! The task is so simple: create a browser, open a*.microsoft.com page, fill in the simple form, press on submit, wait for a result, read the result. The form's submitting method isPOST. That's it, task is so simple! So I have wrote my first obvious try:

//1ST TRY: //create a browser and store it into axoIE variable (runs perfectly well) var axoIE = new ActiveXObject("InternetExplorer.Application"); //show the browser (runs perfectly well) axoIE.visible = true; //navigate the browser to *.microsoft.com (runs perfectly well) axoIE.Navigate("http://example.microsoft.com"); //wait for the browser to load the page (runs perfectly well) while (axoIE.Busy || (axoIE.ReadyState != 4)) Sleep(1000); //set up the text value for input field (runs perfectly well) axoIE.document.getElementById("id").value = "idvalue"; //click on submit button (runs perfectly well) axoIE.document.getElementById("submit_button_id").click(); //(A) //wait for the browser to load the result page while (axoIE.Busy || (axoIE.ReadyState != 4)) //(B) Sleep(1000); //read the result text from the text element var sResult = axoIE.document.getElementById("result").innerText; //(C) //close the browser axoIE.Quit();

It crashes while getting the innerText of the result element. The reason is really aweful:there is some strange lag/delay between clicking on submit button and raising up the busy flag. At line (A) submit button is clicked, BUT it turns out (I have trace it) at line (B) the busy flag is not rised up yet. Whyyyyyy?! So the page is still trying to start updating (the form is still trying to start posting) BUT while condition (B) is already false because of the busy flag sync, and next line (C) is executed prematurely. Of course, there is noresult element in the old page, so exception occures! This is bad, this is how the busy flag isnot shoud work by the sense of intuition! But... this small glitch is not a major problem at all: I have decided to ensure that the busy flag is rised up before checking the (B)while with the (E) line:

//2ND TRY:
...
axoIE.document.getElementById("submit_button_id").click();   //(A)
//wait for the browser to rise up the busy flag before the next check
while (!axoIE.Busy)   //(E)
    Sleep(500);
while (axoIE.Busy || (axoIE.ReadyState != 4))   //(B)
    Sleep(500);
var sResult = axoIE.document.getElementById("result").innerText;   //(C)
...

This time it never hits the line (C) because it hangs on the (B): the busy flag is alwaystrue after its rising (I have trace it). Even after the page is absolutely totally loaded and obviously updated in the browser window (F12, full access to the DOM), the busy flag is alwaystrue. Even after a minute, ten minutes, an hour... By the way, ReadyState is always4 after the (A) statement. I have decided to go around this glitch by adding some obvious-long delay and check out the fully loaded page content:

//3RD TRY:
...
axoIE.document.getElementById("submit_button_id").click();   //(A)
//just sleep for 60 seconds ignoring flags
Sleep(60000);
var sResult = axoIE.document.getElementById("result").innerText;   //(C)
...

The page is updated almost instantly. But after a minute — exception again, line (C)! After tracing it turns out that the document.body.innerHTML is not updatedat all, even after the page is absolutely totally loaded and obviously updated in the browser window! Why?!?! I think: hmm, form'saction page is not specified, so the source and the destination pages are the same page; is it the reason of glitch?! I have decided toalter the form's action page procedurally (add a time argument with a random value such as "&time=987654321") trying toenforce updating of document.body.innerHTML. No reaction! I was trying to click on navigation arrows at the browser's window, back and forth several times. No updates! I recheck the busy flag: still rised up forever. I was trying to call some navigation commands after a certain delay to stop/refresh the browser:

//10TH TRY:
...
while (true)
{
    axoIE.document.getElementById("submit_button_id").click();
    //wait for long delay
    Sleep(20000);
    //if busy then stop and resend submit, break otherwise
    if (axoIE.Busy)
        axoIE.Stop();   //(F)
    else
        break;
}
var sResult = axoIE.document.getElementById("result").innerText;
...

...but exception again at line (F)! It turns out that I can't call Stop/Refresh methods while the busy flag is rised up. So I'm trapped?! I was trying to detect updating by the page's content:

//100TH TRY:
...
//store old content
var sOldPageContent = axoIE.document.body.innerHTML;
axoIE.document.getElementById("submit_button_id").click();
//wait till the page's content updates
while (true)
    if (axoIE.document.body.innerHTML != sOldPageContent)
        break;
axoIE.document.getElementById("result").innerText;
...

...but still no luck, the script hangs forever. Of course, here I am showing the simplified version of my scripts for you to catch the main meaning of the problem; there are a lot of try/catch blocks and other checkings in my version.

I have found another developers with a similar problem. I would say that not just for me, but for many other programmers let's solve it once and for all time! Manual form parsing and posting it using XMLHttpRequest is not sutable for me, I don't want to parse the form manually, the browser must do such a primitive thing in a proper way. What if I want to deal up with a thousands of different forms?Manual parsing is not a way of automation! So the browser must submit a form with a post method and must update its document.body.innerHTML! Otherwise, I have pay my money for a hanged busy flag?

My next guess is: there should be some beautiful workaround OR some Windows KBxxxxxxx update. My config: Win7 Ultimate SP1 us-en x64, IE11 version 11.0.20 with default settings (ActiveX is totally allowed), wscript.exe version 5.8.7600, admin privileges, no global proxy, good bandwith, antiviral tool is turned off. I'm just going crazy, still no result, so PLEASE help!

Internet Explorer stopped working / different DLLs

Hello!

Some of our users experience Internet Explorer (11 / Windows 7 Corporate) to crash ("Internet Explorer stopped working").
I've checked the event viewer logs and different DLLs / add-ons caused IE to stop working, e.g.:
- Adobe PDF
- Dragon Naturallyspeaking

I don't think that several third party add-ons are faulty at the same time, my feeling tells me that there must be another cause that is connect to Internet Explorer / windows.

Can you give me a hint what to check next?

Thank you!

Best regards
Angelo

IE11 11.0.36 (KB3191492) has an issue with the modal window.

IE11 11.0.36 (KB3191492) does not show the base screen content after the modal window is closed.  Showing blank screen on IE11 window.  After I downgraded it to IE11 11.0.35 (KB3185319), it works fine.

To downgrade it, I just uninstalled the security updates KB3185330 & KB3192391.

Does any one have the other solution or know if a new update for this issue is coming from MS?

Internet Explorer 11 - Configuration - Javascript problem

Hi,

I have two servers (Windows Server 2012), each of them have the same webapp installed on them. On some part of webpage, there are some buttons that onClick do show() or hide() content.

Both these servers have the same IE (version 11.0.9600.18378). The problem is, when i access the A webapp from the A server through IE, these buttons do not work and no javascript errors appear in the console. When i access the B webapp from the B server everything works fine. When i access the A webapp from the B server again everything works fine.

So the conclusion was that the IE of A server had some misconfigurations. I have checked the settings of both IE and set them the same but the problem still exist.

Also note that on any other browsers i have tried everything works fine too.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what might be the problem i would really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.
