regsvr32 of IE11 dll's to resolve latency issue

$

One of our Desktop Engineers is running "regsvr32 *.dll /s" on eighty three DLL's that are related to Internet Explorer (IE11). I can post the list if necessary.

My question is: will reregistering the DLL's with regsvr32 weaken the security of IE11 by "undoing" any security fixes that have been put in place with a Microsoft Update?

There is also some concern that registering these DLL's could undo some security settings put in place by Group Policy but I suspect all GPO settings would be put back in place when Group Policy is refreshed.

If you could comment on the security aspect of registering DLL's that is what I am looking for. Many thanks.

IE11 11.0.36 (KB3191492) has an issue with the modal window.

IE11 11.0.36 (KB3191492) does not show the base screen content after the modal window is closed.  Showing blank screen on IE11 window.  After I downgraded it to IE11 11.0.35 (KB3185319), it works fine.

To downgrade it, I just uninstalled the security updates KB3185330 & KB3192391.

Does any one have the other solution or know if a new update for this issue is coming from MS?

How IE 11 ADMX deploy to client pc

Hi All,

We are planning to deploy IE 11 to all computers which around 10 thousand computers. There's also existing policies for IE10, we have combined all of these into one policy and setup a filtering that the new policy will only apply to computers with IE11.

We have a 5 test machines, we installed IE11, downloaded KB2841134 (IE 11 Admin Templates) and patse it to every test machines to Policy Definition folder.

All the test are successfull but the problem now is, how we should deploy the Admin Templates (admx/adml) to every target machines?

I saw some link telling that, once you install the IE11 to client machine admx/adml will be automatically updated to IE11 too. Is this true? because it seems it is not happening on our test machines. We are getting errors and the solution was to download and patse the admx/adml found in KB2841134.

Appreciate your help and assistance.

Hi Team,

We are experiencing IE11 slowness on Windows 10 OS. It is a fresh PC with Windows 10 OS. Whenever we are trying to open any site or URL, it is taking long time to get the page. Tried disabling the Add-on's and Resetting IE however there is no luck. We don't have any problem with other browsers but with IE11. We have uninstalled and re-installed however no luck. Could you please guide us on this.

Thanks & Regards,

Praveen.

IE11 crashes (even on startup add-ons disabled)

Hi,

Internet Explorer 11 crashes sometimes when browsing and also sometimes on startup. It even crashes sometimes when starting IE with add-ons disabled! So add-ons are not the issue here. Resetting IE to factory settings doesn't fix it. It happens with a fresh Windows image so that rules out malware for me (unless the malware is in the image but I find that highly unlikely). The OS is Win7.

My best guess is that a driver or incompatibility with another program (virus scanner etc) is the culprit. I have enabled crashdumps for IE and will attach some .dmp files. I am unable to read the dump files so I'm hoping one of you can help me locate the issue from the dumps. Event viewer points to ntdll.dll but that doesn't help much if you ask me...

Edit:

Run a few scans just to be sure: sfc /scannow & AdwCleaner. SFC found some things and corrected them, AdwCleaner found some registry items and cleaned them. The results are the same nonetheless: IE crashes regularly. Attached the logs of SFC and AdwCleaner to OneDrive:

I have a user that when they try to log into Duke Progress Energy's website at https://www.progress-energy.com/app/loginregistration/login.aspx it will redirect them to a "one time authentication" page which requires them to use a one-time key to log in on a new computer.  When going to this one-time website (secure8.i-doxs.net) it will get an error message that says...

This page can't be displayed

Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in the Advanced settings and try connecting to https://secure8.i-doxs.net again.  If this error persists, contact your site administrator.

Well, I'm the site administrator and I can confirm that TLS 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 are all enabled and forced by GPO.  Restarting IE and rebooting did not help.  Chrome and Firefox both work flawlessly.

Edit: This is IE 11 on Windows 8.1 Enterprise.

Enable third party browser extentions

Hello everyone,

I am facing a problem with the internet explorer and third party extensions.
We are trying to make a third party extension work even if the "Enable third party browser extensions" box is unchecked (Internet options --> Advance --> Browsing).

We create a GPO with 2 parameters in the internet explorer security:
The GPO configuration are located at: Computer Configuration --> Policies --> Administrative Template Policy definitions --> Windows Components --> Internet Explorer --> Security Features --> Add-on Management
1. Deny all add-ons unless specifically allowed in the Add-on List.
2. Add-on List (We add our extension CLSID).
In addition, we add all the websites that we need to the trusted site zone also via a GPO.

Everything works fine as long that the "Enable third party browser extensions" box is check.
If i uncheck the box, the extension that i add to the "Add-on List" is not working.

There is any way i can use third party extensions and to uncheck the "Enable third party browser extensions" box?

Thanks

default home page for all users not working - IEAK 11 with Windows 10 1607

Hello Technet, I am trying to set the default home for all users page in IE 11 using the IEAK11 tool, but it is not working in Windows 10 1607. The home page does not update or change from the default msn.com no matter what I do. I have tried using both a custom configuration and full install using the settings "windows 8.1 64 bit" and "windows 8.1 32 bit".

Any thoughts on how to correct this or maybe configure this a different way? I would like to allow users to change the home page afterwards and prefer not to use a local group policy to enforce it. Also, we do not use the domain group policy for default home page yet, but we are just trying to change it for new deployments using SCCM, not for everyone currently in production.

Technet.com not displaying correct in IE

Hi!

When using technet.com, I'm not able to see content correct in Internet Explorer or Edge.

Example: Search for a powershell command at technet.com, like "New-Mailbox"

Scroll down to "Parameters" and you will find a table with 4 columns. The "Description" column to the right doesn't show up. But when I try Google Chrome, It shows everything nice formatted. Really Microsoft?

Text Search (Ctrl+F) not matching text with newline in IE

$

There seems to be a bit of an issue someone pointed out to me when trying to search for text on HTML pages in IE. I've only tested this on IE 11, but its probably across most versions.

If their is some multi-word text spanning multiple lines without a space at the end of the line, the Ctrl+F feature in IE does not seem to match the text. Firefox and IE  match and identify all 4 instances of the text in the example below fine, but IE fails to match two instances.

While in the sample below it seems relatively minor. However we have 100's of HTML pages(some quite long) and many users rely on Ctrl+F within the page to find text phrases. Is there any way to fix this odd behavior  or is it a bug in IE? The only workaround seems to be to try and ensure any text that has line breaks in code has a space at the end of line.

Example HTML file:

<html><body><p>ABC DEF</p><p>ABC
 DEF</p><p>ABC
DEF</p><p>ABC
DEF</p></body></html>

Silverlight blocked by Windows 8; IE10 (since 11Oct16)

(just found this ARTICLE;Author=?andy25=Andy ONeill;first article I found that even mentioned my symptoms)http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/30387.silverlight-troubleshooting-installation.aspx#This_Browser_Doesn_t_Support_Silverlight_Windows_IE
RE: Silverlight: Troubleshooting Installation
RE: Install Silverlight When Already Installed

Hi,

Since 11Oct16, started seeing an IE "Notification Bar"="Silverlight was blocked because it is out of date and needs to be updated."

Then, Unable to install Silverlight; The same version of Silverlight is already installed.; MSGID 1514
The IE Security settings Andy ONeill mentioned are all set as he suggested with one exception: Allow ActiveX Filtering=Enabled

MACHINE=15r
Dell Inc. Inspiron 5521 A14
Windows 8 (x64) [Version 6.2.9200]
IE10 [Version 9.10.9200.17607]
Silverlight (64-bit) [Version 5.1.50428.0]
WindowsUpdatesStatus;Check=Auto;Available=None

Digging into this and educating myself for ~2 days suggests the RootCause is clearly due to
<>local versionlist.xml(DateMod=161011); autoupdated by IE; code I'm seeing rejects Everything below (but not including) Silverlight 5.1.50709.0
<>seems Microsoft only has one (1) MASTER version of versionlist.xml at a time; they update that MASTER when & how they decide.
<>MACHINE=15r has Silverlight (64-bit) [Version 5.1.50428.0] which CONFLICTS with current local versionlist.xml file.

<>Silverlight Version History
Silverlight 5
Silverlight 5 Build 5.1.50901.0 Released October 11, 2016
Silverlight 5 Build 5.1.50709.0 Released September 13, 2016
Silverlight 5 Build 5.1.50428.0 Released June 21, 2016

<>My theory:  I started seeing this popup on 11Oct (same date IE apparently autoupdated the local versionlist.xml file).
(backups here show local versionlist.xml file prior to 11Oct only rejected Everything below Silverlight 5.1.41212.0 which explains why I was not seeing popups)

<>My Goal:  Eliminate the "Notification Bar"="Silverlight was blocked...."

<>My QUESTION1:  If Windows Updates doesn't offer this machine any Silverlight updates beyond 5.1.50428.0, why did my IE10 update local versionlist.xml file on 11Oct (which is rejecting local Silverlight)?
<>My QUESTION2:  If you were me, what options would you consider, in what order, & why to get rid of the "Silverlight was blocked"?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

IE11 - Automatic Configuration Script not working on one computer

$

0

Good day.

I work in an enterprise environment with IE11 and Google Chrome as available browsers. IE11 is configured with an automatic configuration script. On all computers but one, it works as expected.

On the problem machine I (and all other users) can access intranet sites but not internet sites while using IE11. If I remove the script name and enter the IP/Port of the proxy server in the proxy section, it works as expected. Google Chrome works as expected and pulls the .pac info from IE. Chrome works whether the script or IP are used.

I have run GPUPDATE /FORCE, restarted the computer, run IE with no add-ons, reset IE settings (from the advanced tab on Internet Options), flushed the DNS, renewed the IP, tried accessing websites by IP rather than name.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Liam

IE11 Unable to Drag and Drop websites to my Favorites bar, unable to rearrange existing shortcuts.

$

Hi all,

under Win10 x64 & IE11 fully patched & updated, since some time I am unable to drag&drop websites to the "Favorites" bar in IE like before. I am now also unable to rearrange existing shortcuts at the bar by drag&drop.

What I already checked:

  • did reset all IE setting incl. personal settings - no effect
  • Started IE without addons - no effect
  • Tried with another user profile, no effect
  • removed almost all items from autostart (using MSConfig), no effect
  • checked folder permissions on my "Favorites" folder, they are fine

But:

  • Booting Win10 in safe mode, drag&drop works, rearrange works
  • Adding a website using a button "Add to a favorites bar" works
  • after opening "favorites" on the left side of IE and navigating to "Favorites Bar" folder, I was ABLE to rearrange shortcuts there, and the changes were instantly reflected on my "Favorites" bar.

Any suggestions?

I have found this thread with exactly same sympthoms, but unfortunately the "solution" provided there (and somehow marked as answer (???!!!))  is not a solution.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/e09191bc-d167-4d1e-b4c7-620599635991/ie-11-unable-to-drag-and-drop-to-unlocked-favorites-bar?forum=ieitprocurrentver

Any suggestions?
