Compatibility view settings not being applied

Hi,

We have a list of sites under the group policy setting

User/policies/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Compatibility View/Use Policy List of Internet Explorer sites

The sites appear as expected in the registry under HKCU/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/BrowserEmulation/PolicyList

Despite this the sites are not being rendered in compatibility view. This is using IE11 on Server 2012r2 remote desktop

Any idea what could be causing this?

How to fix incorrect installing - Internet Explorer 11

Hi

One of my team member has just updated Internet Explorer from version 9 to 11.

After that, while checking if every function on our inner website works correctly,

we found some of them are not working at IE 11. (IE 11 cannot show some UI on the screen.)

A few hours after we get into this issue, we figured out that the build version of IE remains same as before,

starting with number 9 even though left of the other part of UI seems to remain exactly as same as IE 11.

so we are guessing that we faced some kind of installing problem like old & new version collision or something.

The problem is that we can only see the same version number of IE inspite of several times of trial for uninstall & reinstall.

so plz let me know if you have any kind of simillar error report and solution that was actually worked.

IT Proxy exceptions not applying?

Hi,

We have an internal domain environment xyz.com.au and an external facing dns domainxyz.com

We are publishing both as proxy bypasses in IE 11 however attempts to resolve hosts in thexyz.com domain are not bypassing proxy unless xyz.com is the first entry in the bypass list.

eg.

- if we bypass "*.xyz.com;*.xyz.com.au", we can reach hosts in the xyz.com domain directly.

- if we bypass "*.xyz.com.au;*.xyz.com", we can't reach hosts in thexyz.com domain and we can see traffic for this domain is being send via the proxy.

Can anyone how proxy bypassing should be implemented for similar domains or explain the above behaviour?

Thanks,

Shane.

Hello,

I have installed IE 11 and its cosuming too much memory. It literally hangs and also make other apps slow. I have tried reinstalling , disabling addons, resetting, using software rendering,  but doesnt seems to be improving the performance. I tried using IE10 from debugging mode, its fast and fine. So the issue is definitely with IE11. Please assist.

WebFonts/Icons are not showing properly

In my application we are using webFonts, when we launch the application for the first time all the WebFonts/Icons are showing properly. When the pop blocker error dialog comes up and user allows the pop-ups for the site, the page is reloading and the webFonts/Icons are not getting displayed. Once you close and relaunch the IE then again the webFonts/Icons are displayed properly. I am not seeing any errors in console.

Can some one help me out why it is happening and how to debug.

Thanks,

Durga

Microsoft Edge not loading Flash content on an internal site with a self-signed certificate

I apologize if this isn't the right forum, but I did not see one that is specifically for Microsoft Edge.

We have an internal Flash application at work that utilizes a self-signed certificate for HTTPS. When attempting to load the page hosting the application, only the background will load. Other than the initial warning regarding the self-signed certificate, there are no errors logged in the browser or the application's backend. The page would load successfully prior to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

One workaround to get the application to load is to install the self-signed certificate in Internet Explorer. After that, it works fine. My question is: does the version of Microsoft Edge that comes with the Anniversary Update have a new security feature that prevents it from loading Flash content when a self-signed certificate is involved? If not, does anyone have any ideas as to why the content will not load unless the certificate is installed?

Microsoft Edge 38.14393.0.0

Microsoft EdgeHTML 14.14393

Windows 8.1 IE 11 aks for choose default browser each time after restart

On Windows 8.1 computers with IE 11 installed (version 11.0.9600.18350, updates version: 11.0.32) we experience choose default browser website (one tab in IE) each time when we open IE (after restart computer). Below screenshot in Polish language but You can see what I mean.

Then we I click blue button to choose default browser and choose IE new window is opening which looks like Edge - full screen mode with address bar on the bottom of the screen.

Two questions then:

1. How to fix it that IE will remember default browser and not ask each time for this

2. Is there any Edge browser on Windows 8.1 ?

Copy IE Cookies

I am a desktop support tech. I have been working on a way to create either a powershell or batch file to copy a user's Favorites and Cookies to a network share. This way when preparing a new computer for the user, I can use a script to copy it back down for them.

However, I think because the %userprofile%\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies folder by default is hidden and it doesnt find it.

Is there anyway to use a command to copy the hidden folder so the script can copy IE Cookies for a user and then copy it down on the new computer?

Prevent 'Protected Mode' dialog when opending (edit) a document from an Intranet site

$

Hi all,

Consider the following scenario:

-You are on a website

-The site is in the Intranet zone

-Protected mode is off

-You access a document library, find a Word document you have access to EDIT, and you click 'Edit' (do not view in Word Web App first)

The result:

-Before Word opens, a dialog box/prompt will be displayed which has the following:

Title: "A website wants to open content using this program on your computer"

Text Body: "This program will open outside of Protected Mode. Internet Explorer's Protected Mode helps protect your computer. If you do not trust this website, do not open this program.

Name (of program trying to open): Microsoft Office 2013

Publisher: Microsoft Corporation

You are then given the option to 'allow' or 'Don't allow'. Click allow and the document opens.

I do not want this dialog to open within the Intranet zone as we trust sites in the Intranet zone.

Does anyone know how to prevent this dialog box? In Group Policy I've gone into Internet Explorer settings - Internet Control Panel - Intranet zone etc. but no setting in there accomplishes this. There may have used to have been a settings which said 'Launching programs and unsafe files' but looks like it's gone?

Thanks.

IE 11 Crashes

I have used every version of Internet Explorer. Version 11 on Windows 10 is without doubt the most unstable and unreliable program I have ever used - period. I endure crash after crash. Sometimes while just sitting there reading but most often when following a link.

I know MS wants users to move from IE 11 to Edge so I believe that the crashes are intentional from MS to drive users to Edge.  I have issues with Edge.  It doesn't allow add-ins that I use daily - like the Norton Vault for Passwords.  Rearranging favorites is problematic. And there are others.

I really would like to see MS fix edge - I don't like to use two browsers.  But MS should realize that the crash issue with IE 11 does nothing to enhance their standing.

IE 11 blocks access to "Microsoft Update" service

Using Windows Update on Windows 7 SP1, there is an option to enable "Microsoft Update" at the bottom to also update Office and other Microsoft applications:

Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more.

,

This opens a webpage, which in IE 10 and earlier, allows me to enable Microsoft Update.

However, IE 11 does not show the page to enable Microsoft Update but shows a useless and unrelated help message:

Use your Start menu to check for updates

How am I supposed to enable the optional Microsoft Update service now?

IE11 Temporary Internet Files Settings GPO

Hello,

I´ve created a GPO to decrease the Temporary Internet Files Amount from the default 250 MB to the desired 50 MB. In this GPO I changed the default registry settings "CacheLimit" under "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\Cache\Content" to the 50 MB.

After the user logged on i checked the registry to verify if rhe gpo is applied successfully, and the value was changed correctly to 50 MB. However, after starting the Internet Explorer and checking the properties, the default value of 250 MB space appears. Refreshing the registry reveals that my 50 MB setting was simply overwritten to the default value of 250 MB after starting Internet Explorer.

Why is this happening and how can i prevent that?

thanks & bye

We have one employee who cannot seem to get to this page.

here are my notes-

Reset IE11,
deleted 32 bit shortcut pulled up the 64 bit shortcut for ie 11
re added the page to compatibility mode.
worked fine for a bit then stopped working after closing out and re opening page.

Tried:

  • rebooting machine
  • clearing cache
  • Reset SSL state
  • -checked java version, reset java settings.
-other machines can load the page fine with any browser
  • i made sure windows was activated and fully updated.
  • the page just cycles and sometimes loads but most times it just sits there doing nothing.
  • unchecked IE11 in the uninstall features and rebooted, and re selected.

http://cookrecorder.com/

is the main page which works, then we click on the search records. nothing happens.

on my machine it loads this page up:

http://162.217.184.82/i2/default.aspx

I'm stumped.

Running security scan takes 20-30 seconds

$

Hi,

I am having issues with people having the "Running security scan" running for around 20-30 seconds on downloads via Internet Explorer 11. While I totally understand the need for it, I am presuming that it can't be switched off ? (despite people saying to untick "Enable SmartScreen Filter").

The trouble is that this is now becoming an issue for people downloading documents internally from SharePoint servers and SQL Reporting servers - how can I adjust the behaviour of this scan ?

Or are there any updates that have known to cause issues with this (I've checked out the KB3076895 one) ? How does the malware/phishing component of SmartScreen Filter get it's updates or is it an external call to a web site hosted elsewhere ?

Our environment is Windows 7 (tested on Windows 10 and the same thing happens), Office 2010 / Office 2013 (happens in both) and IE11. Any pointers to resolve this issue gratefully received !

Many thanks.

Brian.

Unable to upload pictures to the computer

I was just in an hour-long chat session, which led to a technician taking control of my computer, updating drivers, and uploading existing pictures to the computer. After that session, when I was told everything was now working, I took another picture, and still can't upload.

Why could I upload pictures just fine prior to Microsoft's update a month ago, using the drivers I had, and not be able to upload using the same drivers when the update was finally complete?

IE11/WebBrowser control crashes when opening a .eml file after October 2016 Update Rollup

$

After installing the Security Updates from the October 2016 Rollup/Quality Update. IE crashes when you open an .eml file. An application hosting a WebBrowser control (ieframe.dll) also crashes when doing that. This happens on Win7 and Win10 (maybe others I couldn't test).

Here is the error:

<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"><System><Provider Name="Application Error" /><EventID Qualifiers="0">1000</EventID><Level>2</Level><Task>100</Task><Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords><TimeCreated SystemTime="2016-10-21T12:47:19.000000000Z" /><EventRecordID>247500</EventRecordID><Channel>Application</Channel><Computer>xxx</Computer><Security /></System><EventData><Data>IEXPLORE.EXE</Data><Data>11.0.9600.18500</Data><Data>57edec53</Data><Data>ntdll.dll</Data><Data>6.1.7601.23543</Data><Data>57d2f8a2</Data><Data>c0000005</Data><Data>0002e43e</Data><Data>1f18</Data><Data>01d22b99425478d9</Data><Data>C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE</Data><Data>C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll</Data><Data>8011ad61-978c-11e6-aabe-d43d7e37af5f</Data></EventData></Event>

Is there anything to fix that? Uninstalling the Update works, but I don't like to recommend uninstalling security updates to my customers.
