Smartscreen has started blocking redirect between domains with no error message

0
0

Since yesterday (2016-07-13) we have found machines cannot redirect between two or our sites due to smartscreen being switched on.

so Site 1 redirects to Site 2 - the identity server IE or edge then stops

if I turn off smartscreen the redirect happens immediately, this has been working fine for over a year with no problems and there is no feedback to the user, the network tab shows the page being returned from site 2 but nothing is displayed with smartscreen switched on.

We have a number of clients this could soon be critical for.

Iframe not loading after installing Update KB3154070

0

Hi All,

We have an application that mostly deals with iframes (loads the different pages within the application on demand).

Recently, the IE browser got updated with KB3154070(Current IE Version: 11.0.9600.18314) as part of the system updates. After that update, majority of the functionality is breaking completely. It effected all the pages that use iframes. The content is not loading and resulting in a blank page. The request appears to be aborted when inspected in the network panel as shown in the below screen capture.

As I am unable to insert image I am attaching the URL to the uploaded  image.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/863960

We have performed the following troubleshooting

  1. We made sure that all iframe tags are close properly.
  2. The src of the iframe is not empty.
  3. If we access the same page outside (without loading into iframe), it works fine. But, the problem is with only within iframe.

As a quick workaround to this problem, we have asked our users to roll back the update. But, this is not the expected solution.

Your help is really appreciated.

Regards,
Swajay.

Internet Explorer 11 Not Responding (Blank Screen)

Whenever I open my Internet Explorer 11(Windows 8.1), It sometimes opens, and it says it doesn't respond.

I've already Reset the Internet Explorer Settings, I've also turned on the GPU rendering, and Security Enhanced Protected Mode.

Also, i know it's not an add on, because it's not working on an no add on tab also.

Any Help?

NTLM Login does not work on InternetExplorer

I try to login to a site which fires back an NTLM authentication challenge. When i enter the  credentials , I always get a Unauthorized message. I have tried many things like disabling http1.1 but it does not work. I am working on windows 8.1.

Other browsers work correctly.

Any ideas how to get it working on IE?

Thanks.

Chrome and Firefox Display page IE and Edge do not

0

Several appliances and intranet sites no longer display in IE or Edge.

IE will show an error, "This page can't be displayed"

Edge will show an error, "Hmm, we can't reach this page"

Chrome and Firefox will bring back the page, I would just use those browsers, but these appliances work better in IE.

This is not a problem with my machine, it is domain wide, after patching.

Any ideas?

Using vaultcmd To Create Web Credentials

0
0

Hi,

I am trying to create a logon script for Windows 8.1 using vaultcmd for a few users that will populate web credentials.

The command I'm using is formatted like this:

vaultcmd /addcreds:"Web Credentials"

/credtype:"Windows Web Password Credential"

/identity:email@domain.com /authenticator:password

/resource:"https://www.website.com/"/savedBy:"Internet Explorer"

It creates the credentials in the Credential Manager, but they do not populate when I surf to the website.

When I save the credentials using IE11, a file for the credentials is created in the same location, and the credentials look identical to ones created by vaultcmd in the Credential Manager.

However, when I create the credentials with IE, they populate on the site and everything works as intended.

What might I be doing wrong?

Microsoft Edge Opens and Then Closes

I just received and update to my Windows 10. When I select the icon the Microsoft Edge window opens and immediately closes. Also, links don't work, can't find target. Unusable as it is, forcing me to use Chrome. How do I fix this?

Problems with IE 11, Edge, Chrome and GitExtensions

0

I recently installed Git and GitExtensions on my Win 10 Pro Desktop so that I could do some support for various projects on Github and when I tried to open a browser I had problems. I have my defaults to to open Chrome when a browser is opened. My problem is when GitExtensions tries to open a browser Edge opens instead... with no navigation buttons/arrows/etc whatsoever. And GitExtensions complains about setting compatibility-mode or using Firefox or Chrome or whatever. I tried setting the defaults to IE 11 with no change. How do I get either  IE11 (installed) or Chrome (installed) to open instead of the chopped-down-not-usable Edge?

Running security scan takes 20-30 seconds

Hi,

I am having issues with people having the "Running security scan" running for around 20-30 seconds on downloads via Internet Explorer 11. While I totally understand the need for it, I am presuming that it can't be switched off ? (despite people saying to untick "Enable SmartScreen Filter").

The trouble is that this is now becoming an issue for people downloading documents internally from SharePoint servers and SQL Reporting servers - how can I adjust the behaviour of this scan ?

Or are there any updates that have known to cause issues with this (I've checked out the KB3076895 one) ? How does the malware/phishing component of SmartScreen Filter get it's updates or is it an external call to a web site hosted elsewhere ?

Our environment is Windows 7 (tested on Windows 10 and the same thing happens), Office 2010 / Office 2013 (happens in both) and IE11. Any pointers to resolve this issue gratefully received !

Many thanks.

Brian.

Programmatically add passwords to the windows web credential vault

Is there a way to add passwords to the stored web credentials in Windows 10 that Edge will use?

I was trying to utilize vaultcmd and got the password to show up in control panel under Web Credentials, but Edge and IE will not use them:

>vaultcmd /addcreds:{4BF4C442-9B8A-41A0-B380-DD4A704DDB28}
  /credtype:{3DDC5488-98B9-4B10-A326-9487435AA3C22}
  /identity:email@domain.com /authenticator:password
  /resource:"https://www.website.com/"
  /savedBy:"Internet Explorer"

Querying the vault gives me:

>vaultcmd /listschema

I guess there is a problem with the "(100,D5B63C4E5625D84CA48DC755C737CBA6)"-thingy that my added credentials are missing, but I do not know what that is good for and how to add it. D5B63C4E5625D84CA48DC755C737CBA6 is no recognized guid for neither a vault nor a credtype.

Is there any way to add several passwords to the vault, that will actually be used? I'd very much appreciate some help!

Internet Explorer SSL/TLS settings disabled

0
0

Recently, we ran a pilot where FIPS-compliance mode was enabled on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit computers.  Specifically, the "System cryptography: Use FIPS-compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing" security option was set to Enabled.  The pilot is over and we turned off FIPS-compliance mode.

Since doing that, I have noticed that the SSL/TLS settings in Internet Explorer 9 are disabled on computers that were part of the pilot.  I know the defaults are:

  • SSL 2.0 : off
  • SSL 3.0 : on
  • TLS 1.0 : on
  • TLS 1.1 : off
  • TLS 1.2 : off

Now, all of these settings are disabled (grayed out) and the following settings are set:

  • SSL 2.0 : on
  • SSL 3.0 : on
  • TLS 1.0 : on
  • TLS 1.1 : off
  • TLS 1.2 : off

This affects all user accounts on the system.

The test GPO we used to turn on FIPS mode for these computers has been verified to only be enforcing that FIPS setting.  It was not controlling any Internet Explorer settings.

Here is the troubleshooting I have done so far:

  • Reset Internet Explorer via the Reset button on the Advanced tab in Internet Options.
  • Put computer in an OU that had Group Policy inheritance blocked, performed gpupdate, and rebooted to ensure no GPOs were affecting the computer.
  • Verified that local policy was not enforcing the Internet Explorer SSL/TLS settings.
  • Ran msconfig, disabled non-Microsoft services, and rebooted.
  • Removed the Internet Explorer feature, rebooted, re-added it, and rebooted.
  • Installed all available important and recommended Windows Updates.
  • Installed Internet Explorer 11.
  • Created a new local account and set it to Administrator and logged in as that.
  • Removed the computer from the domain.
  • Created another local account (with Administrator rights) and logged in as that while the computer was not on a domain.
  • Ran the command from an elevated command prompt:  secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
  • As a last-ditch effort, I ran CCLeaner and performed all the Clean and Registry fixes available.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Internet Explorer 11 installation fails - error:14101 identities of the manifests are identical but their contents are different

The only problem I'm having with the computer is IE11 crashes frequently.  I'm attempting to re-install IE11, after removal, installation fails.  I've followed several forums resolutions and MS support articles to no avail.  Reinstalling the OS is an option but I'd like to determine the cause.  I've summarized the attempted resolutions below:

  • verified and installed prerequisites updates
  • sfc /scannow
  • reset winsock
  • installed all updates directly from MS
  • installed System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7
  • full offline installer
  • mklink /D c:\Windows\SysNative c:\Windows\system32
  • dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows\temp\IE1CF18.tmp\IE11-neutral.Extracted.cab /quiet /norestar
  • dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows\temp\IE1CF18.tmp\IE11-neutral.Downloaded.cab /quiet /norestart

dism method produces the following log (c:\windows\ie11_main.txt)

Hi,<o:p></o:p>

I have installed IEAK 11 tool on Windows 8.1 and trying to create customized IE 11 for Windows 7 SP1 system (x86 & x64 based).<o:p></o:p>

As per below link we have to install Prerequisite updates before installing Internet Explorer 11 on client machine.<o:p></o:p>

https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/kb/2847882<o:p></o:p>

I have created customized IE11 with Full installation Package option and selected feature are (Setup Customization & Internal Install) and then after synchronization with internet, I am adding Prerequisite updates in custom components. Then i have selected Completely silent installation with No restart. <o:p></o:p>

I have tried installing the below customized files manually on Win7 machines, but it is not getting installed & also there is no error message.

for your reference I am sharing the IE11_main.log information as below.

Re-appearing Favorites

I cannot delete favorites in IE11. Or to be more accurate, I delete them and they reappear within a few seconds. I have seen suggestions to stop syncing favorites (I'm using an MS account), but that's just breaking functionality that I want. Any ideas anyone?
