IE stops responding with SharePoint Online

Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 stops responding after entering login details in SharePoint Online site at https://domain.sharepoint.com.

I have tried:

- Clearing Internet Explorer cache.

- Resetting Internet Explorer Advanced settings.

- Uninstalling then reinstalling Internet Explorer under Windows Features.

- Running an sfc /scannow scan.

What else can I try?

https://domain.sharepoint.com opens ok within Chrome, however the user wants to use Internet Explorer.

File upload not working

Since may 12th file upload to our webapplication is not working on several clients. Form-tag Enctype='mulitpart/formdata' makes the page freeze and wait for time out. If we select a .txt file than it works ok but if we select pdf it stalls on a selection of clients.

On a group of over 2500 client 10 to 20% has this problem. The last updates are installed on the webservers.

Can anyone explain this?

Always ask before opening this type of file - IE11

Hi,

I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue with Internet Explorer and they way it handles opening file from the Internet. Sometimes it gives a prompt like this:

Which is great, I want to turn this on for all common document types (e.g. PDF, Word Docs, Zips). What I've found is you have to either untick the option 'Always ask before opening this type of file', or delete a registry key in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute

When I check my PC I find I don't have that option and the registry keys aren't present.

Could someone clarify this for me? I'm running IE11 and Windows 7.

Thanks

Dave

Cannot Set IE 11 as Default Browser in Windows 10

We have Windows 10 Pro on a laptop.  We want to set the default browser to Internet Explorer 11 (rather than the default, Edge).  I am familiar with the process of setting "Default apps" in Settings/System in Win 10.  When I choose"Web browser," I see Internet Explorer as an option.  When I choose IE by clicking on it in the "Choose an app" window, the change does not occur.  The Default apps screen still shows Microsoft Edge as the default browser.  I should note that the same thing happens when I try to select "Outlook 2016" as the default email program on this screen (nothing changes).

Thanks for any help you can offer with this frustrating problem.

Media Source Extensions not supported in IE11?

Due to some problems playing YouTube movies on IE11 (11.0.9600.18314) from a Windows 2008 R2 terminal server, we found that instigating YouTube through compatibility mode would get us a working video, as long as Adobe Flash was installed. But YouTube would refuse to play a video without compatibilitymode, which made me look into HTML5 as the culprit.

Before anyone asks, the server has been updated with Windows Updates this morning, and I've still got the problem active on there.  I have the problem when users login on the server in a session, but have found the exact same problem if I take a remote desktop session to the desktop itself.

YouTube has a nice testing page under https://www.youtube.com/html5 at which point I find I may have a clue as to why HTML5 movies will not play:

V - HTMLVideoElement
V - H.264
X - WebM VP8
X - Media Source Extensions
X - MSE & H.264
X - MSE & WebM VP9

The V-ones are enabled, the X-ones are listed with a red exclamation, which to me states they do not work. And if I compare it to my local PC which works fine with YouTube, I find that the MSE and MSE & H.265 are enabled with mine. So I'm now looking into getting those two enabled on the server aswell.

The testpage from Microsoft at https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/testdrive/demos/eme/ on the server also states: Your browser does not support Media Source Extensions and is unable to play these videos.

However, finding anything useful on troubleshooting those parts from IE11 is turning out to be a scavenger-hunt. Not much to find to start a real dig into why the two are switched off on the server. Would anyone have some insight in why this might be occurring and what I can do to resolve the matter?

One website not being saved in history

I am on Win10, using IE11 instead of Edge. One website I frequent is a forum, with many subtopics. None of these subtopics I visited ever get saved in history; and so, of course, the links never change color. This also happens when I visit the site with Chrome. I have tried all the "solutions" for general history problems, with no success. This is unsurprising since the problem is limited to this one site. I have asked the administrator to pass along my issue to the websmaster, as I am convinced it has something to do with the site, but I keep getting told to "check cookies" (which I have of course). Any ideas?

Cannot install IE8 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 x64

I have a server that had IE10(?) on it, which wasn't working with an app, so somebody uninstalled it. Instead of reverting back to an earlier version of IE, it has completely removed it from the server. This occurred before my involvement.

I have downloaded the x64 IE8 install from MS, but it won't allow me to install, I get the error "Internet Explorer 8 is not supported on this operating system". If I download x64 IE10 it will install fine, but this version is not compatible with the other app that caused the original problem. Bottom line: it HAS to be IE8.

None of the below have worked for me:

Booting into clean mode then running the install - no difference

Running this command to restore the default security settings: secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose - no difference

Running the command to enable the IE feature: dism /online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64 - return error is "Feature name Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64 is unknown"

I may have tried some other stuff but the repeated banging of my head against the wall has affected my memory.

Does anyone have a clue on how I can get IE8 installed onto this server?

Thanks in advance!

Internet Explorer Error Messages after SHA1 Deprecation

I'd like more clarification about IE no longer trusting SHA1 certificates. Does this mean that sites accessed that use a SHA1 certificate can no longer be accessed at all? Or that it can be accessed but the connection is broken and error messages will remain on the address bar?

We upgraded our Oracle Application Testing Suite (OATS) to 12.5.0.2 which is supposed to work with Internet Explorer 11. This is on a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server. Oracle says this error is an Internet Explorer 11 issue.  We have two users who are getting this error and several users who are NOT getting the error when logging into OATS - Test Manager.  Everyone can log into OATS - Admin.  Logically, you would assume that if they can lot into Admin that they should be able to log into Test Manager.  We just can't figure out why and need some ideas on things to try.  We do not use LDAP in OATS - it is not turned on as it is a new feature in OATS.  We were told that our problems running Open Script was because OATS needed to be updated in order to work with Internet Explorer 11.  Does anyone know how to fix this login problem?

Internet Explorer keeps changing proxy settings

Hi,

I'm facing a strange problem on a lot of Windows machines at my company: the Internet Explorer proxy settings keeps changing.

The proxy settings are being set by a Domain GPO, but on several machines the proxy settings revert back do "Automatically detect settings" from time to time. I'm pretty sure that the GPO is rightly configured. I just need to rungpupdate /force to correct the proxy settings. And all machines have a up-to-dated antivirus software installed.

Now the strange thing: while using Procmon to find out which process changed the AutoConfigURL registry key, I found thatiexplore.exe process executed by itself a RegDeleteKey command to clear this key.

I've tried disabling several add-ons, but the problem is still happening. Does anyone know if there is a way to discover "what" inside IE is removing the proxy configurations? Or if something is invoking IE to do this nasty job? :P

IE11 Zone Elevation and using a Public IP range for the LAN

$

Where I work a manager bought a /16 block of Public IP addresses and it's been used for everything in our network.

In a GPO it's set to prompt for Zone Elevation in the Local Intranet Zone part of settings.
With IE9 users never get a prompt when going from one intranet URL to the next.
But with IE11 they suddenly do. No GPO's altered (yet).

Reading this blog I understand why it happens. And it makes sense when you use private addresses for your LAN.

Is there any way I can work around this?
