How to really disable page zooming in IE11 on Windows 8.1.

$

Simple really.

GPEDIT "turn off page zooming functionality" does not seem to work in 8.1 on my Toughpad 4K.

Am I missing something? A check of the registry shows that "ZoomDisabled" or whatever it was = 1 yet pinch zoom still works on 8.1

Notes: 10 is not an option, this is for embedded. Chrome et cetera are also not options for the same reason.

Registry, real working GPEdit good.

Requiring specially coded HTML if it works might be an option but I would prefer not to have to explore that canal.

IE 11 blocks access to "Microsoft Update" service

Using Windows Update on Windows 7 SP1, there is an option to enable "Microsoft Update" at the bottom to also update Office and other Microsoft applications:

Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more.

,

This opens a webpage, which in IE 10 and earlier, allows me to enable Microsoft Update.

However, IE 11 does not show the page to enable Microsoft Update but shows a useless and unrelated help message:

Use your Start menu to check for updates

How am I supposed to enable the optional Microsoft Update service now?

How to change the type of “open file” prompt in Internet Explorer

I have a .Net web application that allows the user the open a Word document which is a macro-based report. This has worked well for years until recently. And now we are starting to have some issues with the opening of the Word doc.

I've determined that I currently have some PCs that work well, and some that don't. Here are the main differences:

Working:

  • When clicking on the file link, the IE11 browser shows a prompt on the center of the screen asking the user to "open, save or cancel". Similar to this:
     Good
  • When the user selects "Open", the word file is opened with a yellow message saying "Enable content".
  • When the user clicks on "Enable content", the macro executes and the data is filled correctly.

Not working:

  • When clicking on the file link, the IE11 browser shows a prompt on the bottom of the screen asking the user to "open, save or cancel". Like this:
     Fail
  • When the user selects "Open", the word file is opened with a yellow message saying "Enable edit".
  • When the user selects "Enable edit", there is a new yellow message saying "Enable content".
  • When the user clicks on "Enable content", the macro does not execute and/or has no data.

So my questions are, What's the difference in the IE11 setup and how do I change it?

Company policy is to use IE so I haven't even tested the behavior in other browsers because the website simply doesn't work well on them.

How do I stop IE 11 from renaming downloads

$

IE 11 renames files. For instance, .exe files become _exe, .zip become _zip. This is happening on Win 7 Ultimate-64-bit, Win 7 Pro 64-bit, and Win 8.1 Update.

This interferes with my ability to get updates to my Visual Studio and many other programming tools.

IE 11 won't even support the Akami system used by MS.

As far as I know all the security settings are set to allow downloads. Windows Firewall is configured to tell me when it blocks a program.

I read an earlier blog post from the IE Team that says this problem is due to some sites being creative!?!

The latest Firefox has no issues downloading.

How do I disable a site placed in Enterprise Mode manually?

Yesterday I ran into a problem on a vendor's support portal. IE11 would just crash when I tried to go to the case management section. I am running some testing of Enterprise Mode and I have the Enterprise Mode option available in IE11's Tools menu under my profile, so I put that site into Enterprise Mode via that method. This ended up causing a problem where the site just keeps bouncing between two different URLs very rapidly, and this doesn't allow me enough time to go into the Tools menu to remove the site from Enterprise Mode.

Is there some alternate place, such as the registry, where I can remove this site from Enterprise Mode.

Internet Explorer 11 is automaticall sending proxy cached credentials instead of using the basic auth popup

Having a lot of issues with the new explorer 11 but the most baffling is this:

Say a user has (against policy) checked the box on the basic auth box allowing IE to remember the password. In previous versions even though this is checked each time the proxy sends the 407 response the box would popup with the information entered. IE 11 is not doing this, it just responds to the 407 with the credentials that were saved and goes on. Now this is a REAL problem if a user with admin access has entered their info for one reason or another and missed the fact that the box was checked. And I can find no way to clear the cached credentials, deleting everything does not help nor no setting I can find including setting HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings DisablePasswordCaching = 1 (which never worked in Windows 7 but still popped up the auth box). The ONLY way I have found to clear the credentials is to have the user change their password so the password fails. As we are saddled with several large vendors requiring the use of IE I need to know how to fix this and keep it from ever happening again. It is the most unacceptable behavior I have ever seen from a company that specializes in unacceptable behavior in their software products

Help, I cannot use Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10

$

I have read the posts on the same problem I am having. I cannot  get  IE I1 to list on the Windows 10 Tool Bar, or on the Control  Panel list of programs.  I wasn't sure it was even loaded, but when I tried to install it, I  was told it was already installed.  When I finally found it, it kept disappearing.  From reading the previous answers, it appears that the only way to fix it, is to reinstall Windows all over again.  I am afraid to try this, as something else may go wrong!  Is there any other solution?

I mistakenly installed google chrome (thinking i was getting google earth) and then uninstalled it. It corrupted IE8 so that i cannot use windows explorer to view our ftp site. (which means that i cannot use our site). Google chrome also corrupted windows outlook but i used a Microsoft fix to cure that.

When i am at our ftp site and i go to "page" and then go to "Open ftp site in windows explorer" i get the error message "This site cannot be opened in windows explorer" I'm using IE8.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Certificate Prompt in IE11 on 2012 R2 with RDS or Citrix causes Allow/Deny Prompt to Appear in Another Users Session

$

Hi there, spreading this a little wider to see whether anyone else has experienced the same issue and whether anyone has found a workaround. Disabled strong security on the cert works around the issue as the prompt will not occur without strong security enabled.

Summary of issue:

When using Internet Explorer 11 on 2012 R2 with RDS or Citrix and "Enable Strong Security" is set on a Personal Certificate, the prompt to ALLOW or DON'T ALLOW the application (in this case IE11) to access the certificate appears in another users session.

Others have highlighted the same issue:

I am running windows 10.  After a required up date a week ago my m.s. edgequit working and when I am in my email I can't access links to other web sights by clicking on the link.  Instead of going to the web sight, I get a class not registeredmessage. I didn't have these problems before the update from Microsoft.  What's going on and how do I fix it?

Control + Find Not Working

$

Our web based accounting software opens in a popup window. When trying to search for specific data it is helpful to use control + find (ctrl+f). On one users computer the find option does not work. I thought maybe it was a user profile problem but no matter who logs into the computer the control find does not work. I have removed and reinstalled IE, upgraded to the latest version, went back to an older version (9) with no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IE11 - NameCtrl Class not compatible on Sharepoint 2010

$

Hello,

we are about to upgrade from IE9 to IE11. While testing we found a problem when opening our sharepoint 2010 site. At the bottom we get the following message:

"This webpage want to run "NameCtrlClass" which isn't compatible with Internet Explorers enhanced security features. if you trust this site, you can disable Enhanced Protected Mode for this site and allow the control to run."

You can choose between "Run control" oder "don't run". But the result stays: The message still pops up every time.

I searched the web and realized that the NameCtrlClass is used to display the availability of a person in sharepoint. As this feature is not used we disabled the NameCtrlClass through GPO. But its not helping either :(

Ah, we are using Office 2010, and the NameCtrlClass Version is 14.0.6109.5000. So we do not have the common error, that the NameCtrlClass wasn't updated while installing Office 2013.

Any ideas how we solve this problem?

Thanks a lot for every hint

Hi,

Do you know how to fix this bug on my internal web site (with html/css/js fix or deploying KB maybe) ?

The map used by an image is not used anymore after the user zoom in or out inside his IE.

If the page is initialy loaded at 110%, the map area is used but not after the user change his zoom level...

Any idea will be great.
Tx.

Smart Card Access via Web application

$

Does Microsoft have a set of DLL or a way to access smart cards from a web page. Currently we have to use Java appelet in order to get at the smart card and be able to authenticate a real digital signature.  I would think with how highly used smart cards are that Microsoft would have come out with a solution to this.  talking to another developer, they think or have heard that Windows 10 will have the ability to pass through smart card information to a web application.  Wanting to know if this is correct or not or if it has to be a application made desktop and not web.  thank you and hopefully someone can help us in the community with access to smart cards in web applications.
