Renaming Favorites on Favorites Bar

I can't rename the favorites icons on the favorites bar. I right click on an icon, choose "rename" but when I start typing, different letters appear other than the ones I'm typing on the keyboard. It doesn't seem to be the keyboard because it works everywhere else plus I've tried different keyboards. Anyone have a solution to this? Much obliged. Henry.

IE10 Consumer Preview Smoothing Fonts Without Any Color

$

Something's gone wrong with IE10's font smoothing logic:  It's not using any color in the font smoothing process while rendering web pages. It's being done properly in Windows 8 CP in general, and even in the IE10 menus and chrome, just not in the rendered page.

I've tried it with the IE10 "Use Software Rendering instead of GPU Rendering" setting in both positions, and I've tried it with all different settings of the ClearType Tuner.  Under no conditions will IE10 use color precompensation in its font rendering.

This worked properly in the IE10 in the Windows 8 Developer Preview.  It looked quite good there, actually.

Here is a magnified view, so you can see clearly:

As you might expect the text does not look as sharp and actually looks more color-fringed without the color compensation in the font smoothing logic.

Please let me know if I can supply any further information.

My IE 10 started yesterday with every site I tried to browse being re-directed to domain .cz (Czech) while sitting at home in NJ (i.e. google.com was directed to google.cz; youtube.com was directed to youtube.cz. etc) and IE became froze. I cannot browse any site using IE 10 since yesterday. However, I have no problem with Firefox or Chrome. Any suggestions what went wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks

JavaScript not running in IE10 on Windows 8

$

Hi,

I have spent hours scouring the Internet for a solution and I have tried just about everything to get this working, but no luck...

First, my specs:

  • Running in a Dell Inspiron notebook with 64bit Windows 8 Pro (Version 62. [Build 9200])
  • IE 10.0.9200.16466 (Update version 10.0.1)
  • My OS is up-to-date with all patches

My problem:

Sometime, in the last month or so it seems that IE10 stopped running any JavaScript. I didn't notice this sooner as I use Firefox and that is still working fine. I first found that my Skype stopped working - it gave me a blank login screen and some searching on the net indicated a possible IE issue. I checked IE by going to a web site that uses JavaScript and found that it too wasn't working. I then also noticed (and this is the one killing me) that when I needed to re-register my development license for Windows 8 development that it too doesn't work - it gets to the prompt indicating that I need to re-register, I click on "I Agree" and it pops up with a blank dialog box (just plain white background and nothing else).

I have tried resetting the security settings on IE, ensuring that the option to run JavaScript was ticked on. I also tried re-registering the javscript dlls and some others. I tried compatibility settings but nothing seems to fix it.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, I am at wits end here, please.... ;-(

Thanks in advance

Win8 IE10 Error when deleting cookies and/or resetting Internet Explorer settings

Has anyone seen this error message when trying to delete internet files or trying to reset internet explorer settings using the internet options cpl? :

"The instruction at 0x574a0259 referenced memory at 0x00000000, The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program."

It only occurs if I have 'Cookies and Website Data' selected for deletion (Resetting Internet Options also tries to delete cookies, which is why it gets the same error.)

I created a new user profile on the same computer and from that profile, I do not get the error. I am able to delete all files in the roaming and low folders under the users profile manually and this does not clear the error.

Before anyone suggests 'just use the other profile', it's not that simple, some programs are tied to the used sid, so I have to figure this out. I ahve tried system restore as well, to the earliest date it has.

IEAK 9 and Group Policy

$

I began using IEAK for IE 9 in my image deployments through SCCM 2012.  I began receiving complaints from some users that they were unable to access external web sites.  Upon further investigation, I found that group policies for these users were not being applied, particularly the proxy exceptions list.  I had left these configurations empty in the IEAK with the intention that they would be populated by group policy, but they appear to be locked out.  I've rebuilt the IEAK package and confirmed the settings, but this behavior is still happening.  Is there any way to allow this?  I've tried manually editing the INS file and removing the proxy information, but this doesn't fix the problem.  If there is no solution, how can I remove the IEAK from the builds that have already gone out?

Active X White Screen on IE8 & IE10 Windows 7 Devices

Hi All,

Slight issue when using a site which had been built for our business in that it still works with Windows XP SP3 machines however doesn't work with our Windows 7 build which we are looking to push out. Whenever we click the desired link it loads up with a white screen and wont go any further (usually to do with Active X). Just wondered if anyone had also had these issue's before and if so how they fixed it. I will keep playing to see if it can be fixed.

What setting forces a web page to display in IE9 Compatibility View and Quirks mode?

$

0

We have an SAP web portal that won't display correctly as the version of WebDynPro isn't compatible with IE9. To workaround this, we set the web page to display in IE9 Compat View with Quirks mode enabled. See below:

Currently a user has to do this manually, and it will intermittently "un-set" itself, reverting to IE9 mode.

How can we set this automatically and consistently for every device?

For this example, the web page is internal (http://SAPWeb.My.Domain)

I've seen the iecompatdata.xml file, but editing that is not a viable option nor does it work. I've added the site to the IE7 compatibility list in group policy, that doesn't work.

We do not have access to edit the web page's header, and even if we did we cannot determine what the correct values to use are. Upgrading/downgrading browsers is not an option.

Has anyone found a suitable workaround?

IE9 MUI not working

We deploy a Win7 64bit English version with 6 diffrent MUIs via SCCM 2012 CU1.
And we also deploy the IE9 64bit EN in the same Task Sequence after the OS MUIs has installed.
Update KB982861 (Windows Internet Explorer 9-LP for Windows 7) is also installed on our systems.

It doens't matter which Language we've set the IE9 is always English.

What are we doing wrong?

I've seen a number of other posts about this, but no solutions short of reinstalling from scratch.  (We'll back down to IE9 before doing that to all the workstations in our department.)

Any suggestions for how one can repair a system exhibiting such errors?

Deploy PAC file to IE users

$

We recently installed IE 10 on our Server 2008 R2 domain controllers and realized that we can no longer edit the Internet Explorer Maintenance from the domain controllers. We can work around that, but decided that maybe it is just time to convert to a PAC file and stop using Internet Explorer Maintenance all together. The problem is that when we configure preferences for Internet explorer to point to the PAC file, it never gets configured on our Windows 7 systems. We really don't like using Preferences for Internet Explorer, so if there is another way, we would like to know what it is. DHCP is not an option since we need to be able to target different groups of systems on the same subnet with different proxy configuration scripts... This is largely done for testing purposes so that we can test a script change without impacting all users if a mistake is made...

Is there a simple way to configure the proxy configuration script in IE without using Internet Explorer Maintenance?

The IEAK 10 installer doesn't have an option to skip internet explorer updates download like the IE 10 installer.   The IE 10 install provides a /update-no switch but there's no equivalent in IEAK 10.  Will Microsoft provide an option to skip the IE updates download as part of IEAK or update the utility?

I am in the process of upgrading our systems from IE8 to IE10.  I have noticed when I try to view a gpresult html report saved to the local machine, all of the headers are expanded.  I do not have the option to show all or hide all.  Is seems like the format is not as clean.  It is not displaying properly.  If I open the same file from a shared location, it opens just fine.  I am wondering if there is a setting that is causing this format to be off when I open an html file from the local machine.
