Disable "Choose File to Upload" on Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 Pro while in Kiosk Mode

Recently, my company started working with a company where they wanted to redirect from an internal Intranet Kiosk site to a publicly available application site. The site apparently (due to lack of something) does NOT have the ability to remove any File Upload links when coming from the Kiosk URL.  The Kiosk computers are running Windows 7 Pro with various GPOs and registry keys locking them down to using Internet Explorer in Kiosk mode replacing the explorer.exe on the user account. The problem is we have not been able to find a way to Disable "Choose File to Upload" dialogs in Internet Explorer 11. This seems like it should be a pretty straight forward option as you can disable File Downloads using GPOs but apparently disabling File Uploads isn't something commonly done.

A number of blocks are in place, but there is always the fun the user could have of uploading files by using their Environmental Variables (Example: %WINDIR%\win.ini) that we would like to avoid.  In fact, I'd like to avoid any dialog to avoid any issues with seeing Libraries or Desktop folder paths.

Given Kiosk Mode for Internet Explorer has been an age old feature, I'm amazed disabling "File Upload" isn't some default option when you set in Kiosk Mode.

Please assist!  Thanks!

F5 Networks Firepass and Internet Explorer 11

I am running Windows 7 and recently appear to have been upgraded to Internet Explorer 11.

A Couple of days ago i was successfully using F5 Firepass (using IE 10). Today i cant use it...

After sorting out Kaspersky - which has started to consoder the logon as needing a secure keyboard entry (never did this before...),

I am getting warnings; (a) that Javascript is not enabled - it looks enabled to me...

(b) I need to install the F5 Browser plugin.

I have downloaded the plugin (NPuroamHost.dll), and the instructions are to 'unpack it into the plugins folder of your browser tree.'

Where on earth is this?

I found another post elsewhere with a similar problem - and the solution was to uninstall Internet Explorer 11. Amazing!

Internet Explorer 11 install causes IE and some other MS Applications to stop working or stall. continuously.

Internet Explorer 11 install was attempted on an HP ProBook Win 7 I5 laptop using download from the Microsoft web site. Now Explorer crashes each time it is launched.  The Stopped Working window indicates “…Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available…” but the program stalls and is unresponsive at that point and IE does not close without intervention.

  1. Attempted to uninstall IE but even with hidden files displayed it does not show as an installed software
  2. Attempted to run IE 11 in No Add-ons mode without success.
  3. Attempted reinstall using a new copy of the IE 11 download from another machine copied to a jump drive. System indicates that a later version is already installed or Installer hangs and will not advance.
  4. On Internet Options menu used REIS to reset to defaults
  5. Installed all Microsoft Win 7 updates but same symptoms recur.
  6.  Attempted Restore from two available points using onboard and Win 7 disk but none resolved the problem. Using Win 7 64 bit disk, attempted repair and tried all four visible restore points. An undetectable error in the Restore operation resulted.

Laptop  can access Internet when another browser was temporarily installed. It was removed following the test during the Restore operation.

Hi,

I am returning a Stream as data of an API and i am making sure to set the required headers.

WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse.ContentType = "application/force-download";
WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse.Headers.Add("Content-disposition", "attachment;filename=" + Uri.EscapeDataString(fileName));

In case of file name having only english characters i am able to receive the data with proper file name.

When file name posses non english characters then only in IE the downloaded file name is of random characters. In chrome and Firefox able to receive proper file name.

How to take care of this problem?

Trusted Root Certificate of Root CA removed when browsing to 'wrong' URL

Hello,

I've a very nasty issue with root CA certificate that's disappearing from the trusted root authorities store. I'll shortly describe the environment:
- Two tier PKI infrastructure with a offline, standalone root CA and a domain joined Enterprise issuing CA (both W2012R2); root CA certificate is published in AD
- There's a parent and child domain. Issuing CA lives in parent domain (2012R2 domain&forest level)
- Employees are working on a 2012R2 RDS&Citrix XenApp 76 server in the child domain
- In the parent domain several servers are using a SSL certificate signed by the company owned issuing CA; it's a SAN certificate
- The root CA's certificate is in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store of all member servers in parent & child domain (so, that's also valid for the 2012R2 RDS servers)

The issue is that the certificate of the root CA that's in the trusted CA store of all RDS servers is being deleted on a regular base (at least once a day on each RDS-server). I enabled CAPI2 logging, but I couldn't find anything that makes sense. However I'm able to reproduce this issue in very simple way: if I start IE11 on a RDS-server and browse to the IP-adres or NETBIOS-name of a webserver that host a site that's using a certificate from our PKI (so, it's clear that the URL isn't matching the names entered in the SAN certificate) and I click on 'Continue to this website (not recommended)', the root CA's certificate is being removed from trusted CA store of the server I'm working on.

Unfortunately I'm unable to exactly determine what happens and how to solve this issue.

Any idea?

IE 11 blocks access to "Microsoft Update" service

Using Windows Update on Windows 7 SP1, there is an option to enable "Microsoft Update" at the bottom to also update Office and other Microsoft applications:

Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more.

,

This opens a webpage, which in IE 10 and earlier, allows me to enable Microsoft Update.

However, IE 11 does not show the page to enable Microsoft Update but shows a useless and unrelated help message:

Use your Start menu to check for updates

How am I supposed to enable the optional Microsoft Update service now?

Prevent 'Protected Mode' dialog when opending (edit) a document from an Intranet site

$

Hi all,

Consider the following scenario:

-You are on a website

-The site is in the Intranet zone

-Protected mode is off

-You access a document library, find a Word document you have access to EDIT, and you click 'Edit' (do not view in Word Web App first)

The result:

-Before Word opens, a dialog box/prompt will be displayed which has the following:

Title: "A website wants to open content using this program on your computer"

Text Body: "This program will open outside of Protected Mode. Internet Explorer's Protected Mode helps protect your computer. If you do not trust this website, do not open this program.

Name (of program trying to open): Microsoft Office 2013

Publisher: Microsoft Corporation

You are then given the option to 'allow' or 'Don't allow'. Click allow and the document opens.

I do not want this dialog to open within the Intranet zone as we trust sites in the Intranet zone.

Does anyone know how to prevent this dialog box? In Group Policy I've gone into Internet Explorer settings - Internet Control Panel - Intranet zone etc. but no setting in there accomplishes this. There may have used to have been a settings which said 'Launching programs and unsafe files' but looks like it's gone?

Thanks.

Latest IE Security Patches (~Jan 14) no longer allowing bypass to internal web server with invalid/no certificate

We have an internal server that is being replaced after a system conversion and new IE  patches are blocking us from going to the internal site anyway. We uninstalled the patches, but IE still will not let us proceed. Using another browser works, but that circumvents our other security software. We are on IE 11. Suggestions? Thanks. The old server is Windows 2000 Server and no source available to update the software

Unable to add search provider via "Internet Explorer gallery" on IE8

Seems there is a problem with adding a search provider via Internet Exlorer gallery as all the links for the search providers are not working. Whether you I try to add google, yahoo, wikipedia or even bing (although bing is the default search provider  I'm trying to change). When you click on "Find more providers" on the drop down options on the top right corner of the internet page, it links to this page- http://www.iegallery.com/en-gb/AddonsIE7 which has all the list of search providers. However the "Add to Internet Explorer" links on all the providers listed do not work.

I contacted the Answer Desk to report this and they were everything but helpful. They advised me to reset my IE8, restart it and try to add the search provider again and that didn't work. When I tried to explain the problem was with the webpage they kept saying the page does not belong to microsoft which is really weird since "©2015 Microsoft" is written at the bottom of the page. I got other colleagues including some at different locations and they seem to have the same problem.

I found a resolution to the problem on my own though and it looks like everything may have been moved to a different webpage. If you go via http://www.iegallery.com/AddonsIE7 instead, all the links seem to work just fine and I was able to add google and wikipedia as search providers. Unfortunately. IE8 comes configured to direct to the "en-gb" website when you tell it to Find more providers. So if you are having this problem just like I did, just remove the en-gb/ and you should be fine. Hope Microsoft fix this problem soon!!!!

Hi,

I'll make this as brief as possible:

Installed IE11 on Windows 7 and Proxy PAC file does not work, however Google Chrome, which gets its proxy settings from IE, is using the PAC file just fine. My PC was able to use the PAC file on IE8 and IE10. The 'Use Automatic Configuration Script' option is ticket and the PAC file path entered in this format: File://C:/Windows/pacfilename.pac

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Problem with proxy and DNS

$

Hello,

in our company we use Internet Explorer 8... (i know...) We also have a proxy and 4 DNS servers. Last weekend we suddenly had an issue where internet pages could not be loaded. When we did some testing with Wireshark we saw that it took a long time to query www.google.com or www.microsoft.com. The query went from the first DNS server to the second and so on. This behaviour was shown on Windows 2008 R2 servers with Citrix and also the workstations and laptops with Windows 7.

When we deleted the DNS servers from the network settings and set the proxy ip-adres in the browser the problem was solved. So the problem had to be in DNS.

After that we deleted the list of Root Hints and the problem seemed to be solved. However, when we look in wireshark we still see that external addresses are queried againts our local DNS servers. In internet explorer we have a policy active where the proxy is set. We have two proxies and the problem exists with both of them.

So the question is, why does IE8 still query all four DNS servers even when we have a proxy? Why is there a lot of delay there?

Thanks!

I don't know if anyone else is having this issue but after the recent patch run by MS this week we are getting a high proportion of users unable to access internet explorer (all versions) on Windows 7 machines.

The error displayed is

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

attempt to access invalid address

This happens when trying to run Internet Explorer short cuts or iexplore.exe directly. I have had a searched around and given the number of users that with the issue I'm surprised if not found more info

Any feedback appricated

Why Does IE 11 Setup Reference A Certificate From Facebook?

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I installed IE 11 from Windows Update.  The machine had IE 8 before.

When I opened IE 11 for the first time I got the screen that asks if you want to use the defaults.  I left that checked and went to the next page where I got:

I clicked on View Certificate and got:

The machine had just been booted.

I also noticed that the TrustedInstaller.exe was using a lot of CPU time.

Any idea why IE 11 Setup is using a Facebook certificate?

IE 8, 9, 10, Edge - Invalid character - ó

$

I'm populating the drop box with records of currencies from DB and receiving JSON string on the client end. One of the records that IE complains about looks as follows:

{"linkedObjects":[{"id":86,"name":"CRC Costa Rican colón","value":"CRC Costa Rican colón","iD":86}]}

In particular this character - ó

The question is, what do I do about it? One thing I cannot do is to manipulate the data in DB pro-grammatically. Catch it at the point when JSON string is assembled on server side and replace it, but it needs to be displayed as its stored in DB and again we have no control of what has been inserted on the other end to DB and which character to accommodate for this time, whats the work around?

P.S. Its not the case in FireFox, Opera, Chrome - all works fine.

P.P.S. Application encoding set to UTF-8

When i try to open MS PowerPoint file from Internet using IE11, i always get error message not enough memory or systen resources. After clicking ok and waiting few seconds file opens correctly. Saving file from the net works but when trying to just open, error message comes.

There is no errors when using Firefox or Chrome but only when using IE11.

Windows version or Office version is not the reason. I have tried using Win7 and Win10 and also Office 2013 and 2016. Same thing also happens from different web sites

Hi- Running IE v11.0.9600.18125 on Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise. I cannot get sound for videos on many web sites. On Youtube, there isn't even the volume icon in the video window. On other sites, the video starts muted (X over speaker icon) and I cannot unmute it. I've tested this on several workstations with the same result. Any ideas?

Thanx

IE 11 on Windows 10 crashes with Protected Mode On

$

I am having an issue where Protected Mode causes certain websites to crash with IE11. I have noticed it on three different websites. Our internal Citrix webpage, GoToAssist's portal, and our Exchange OWA website. If Protected Mode is on, these websites cause IE11 to crash. When Protected Mode is off, the websites work fine. I have only seen this behavior on Windows 10. It works fine on Windows 7. I have noticed this on multiple machines that are both domain and non-domain machines.
