I can only get IE to run in admin mode and I set admin as default. Yet IE will not work when using a desktop internet shortcut. I don't understand why IE will run from the icon, but not run the shortcut. Can this be fixed?

Hello,

When I'm pulling up my browser an error messages shows, "You may be trying to access this site from a secured browser. Please enable scripts and reload this page."  I tried to follow this forum:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2752584, but I noticed the Security Tab does NOT show in Internet Options. Then I followed this forum: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/noscript?wa=wsignin1 to get the security enabled/available, but I I've restarted my server and it still does not show.  Can someone please help?  Is there a workaround?

System: Server 2008 R2 and IE 9

Sn: I've posted this to Windows Server Forum as well.

URL In Web App is Disabling Protected Mode in IE11

I had a question regarding Internet Explorer and Protected Mode. When using a custom built web application that uses an internet explorer window, going to a specific location using a URL within the web app will cause protected mode to be disabled. If browsing normally with protected mode set, it is not disabled. Is this an Internet Explorer issue? or an issue with the web app?

After changing user folder name , the old folder left with "counters.dat"

Got my new laptop with Windows 10 Pro.

1st time sign in it uses my email address as user folder name "C:\users\<email>".

I didn't like it, so I managed to change it to my name.

After rebooting, now it left with a file that I couldn't delete: C:\Users\<email>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\counters.dat

I did online search and found some similar issues but didn't find a solution on the forum.

Microsoft Edge search via address bar problem (queries with a dot)

Hi

I have a clean installation of Windows 10.1 enterprise (English).

I try to use Microsoft Edge browser to search a query. All settings are just "default out of the box".

Most queries work ok but if I try a query with a dot then browser thinks I am entering an URL. For example I try searching "xamarin forms 2.0". This ends up with browser attempting to open an URL: "http://xamarin%20forms%202.0/" which obviously fails.

In classic Internet Explorer 11 this problem does not reproduce, only in Edge.

Any idea how to fix that?

Best regards,
Eugene.

When try to connect to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=286152 to download software , I use my Live ID (or Hotmail ID or Office365 ID or  Premier support ID) I get the following error after I supply my login credentials:

Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later.

I copy the link to Chrome browser and following login with my Hotmail Login, I get to the download site.

Is there something cached in my I E 11 that is causing the issue?

Thanks

IE11 compatibility view

Hi. I am trying to work out how to implement compatibility view / Enterprise Mode for some sites and have some questions I haven't been able to answer satisfactorily yet. Can you help?

1. I have a site that seems to work in compatibility view but not Enterprise Mode and want to find out how to add it with Group Policy. I've found 3 useful links:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/asiatech/archive/2013/10/23/how-to-add-web-site-to-compatibility-view-list-via-gpo.aspx

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn321457.aspx

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn321453.aspx

The first one looks good except for comments suggesting the recommended solution replaces existing settings on first application, and the other 2 sites contradict each other. One lists the Group Policy settings available for this in IE11 and the other says they are deprecated.

Are there any other options for adding sites to compatibility view that work and are non-destructive?

2. 2 of the sites I have listed in EMIE are actually loading as IE5 (presumably compatibility view) when they should load as a different mode. Is there any easy way to work out why they are loading in a particular mode? They are not listed in Compatibility mode and they are not listed in gpresult output and so I want to know why they behave like this.

Thanks

Mark

ActiveX control installation from Trusted Sites

$

This question relates to IE 8 running on Windows 7 x64 (but x86 ver of IE is running)

I would like to allow signed ActiveX controls to be installed automatically from Trusted sites even when a non administrative user is logged in.

At the start, when launching our in-house web site, I was getting a User Account Control message with the name of the signed ActiveX control that wants to install along with a prompt to enter admin credentials.  In researching the problem and solution, I found that I needed to modify a GPO that applies to the workstation.  I modified the policy "ActiveX installation policy for sites in Trusted zones" and set it to enabled and Trusted Pub=Silently, Signed = Silently, and unsigned = Prompt.

I then rebooted the computer.  After doing this, the UAC prompt is still appearing, but the text of the message has changed.  Now, instead of listing the ActiveX control that wants to install, it says "Internet Explorer Add-on Instraller" publisher"Microsoft Windows" origin "Hard drive on this computer" with the CLSID {BDB57FF2-79B9-4205-94470F5FR85F37312}.

If I go back and "not configured" the GPO policy, it switches back to prompting with the name of the actual ActiveX control.

How do I get it so that ActiveX controls are allowed to install from trusted sites without prompting?

Internet Explorer 10 IEAK capturing Security Settings

$

I am trying to package a custom installation for Internet Explorer 10 using IEAK.  I am having some trouble with the Import Security Settings portion of the tool.

It is failing to import the security settings.  It says it has imported them, but upon installation the security settings have not been included in the IE 10 installation.

Looking at the "INS" folder that is built and the custsec.inf file create there, I can see that only two security settings have been captured -- "1401" and "2500" and none of the other 50 or so security settings are collected for any zone.

In addition, I have trusted sites set to not require HTTPS, but that selection is not captured into the custom IEAK generated browser installer.

Does anyone have any tips on how to successfully deploy a customized version of IE 10?  I am even more reliant now on IEAK since IEM mode was removed from Group Policy, so I reall need to figure out why it doesn't function correctly.

IEAK 11 Can't uncheck "Require server verification"

I need to deploy IE 11 in my enterprise with the Trusted Sites setting "Require server verification" unchecked.

I am using IEAK 11 to build a custom IE Install.  I have imported the security zones in IEAK and when the custom IE 11 is installed on a client, the correct sites are added to Trusted Sites, but the security setting doesn't work.

So, I unpacked the BRANDING.CAB file and took a look at the seczones.inf and seczrsop.inf

I noticed that while seczones.inf for HKLM listed

HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\2",Flags,0x10001,43,00,00,00

HKCU showed

HKCU,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\2",Flags,0x10001,47,00,00,00

Value "47" will leave the box checked.  I was able to hand modify the seczones.inf file that gets baked into the BRANDING.CAB file to make sure it says "43" for both HKCU and HKLM.  43 hex corresponds to decimal value 67

Similarly, in Seczrsop.inf I needed to change the "Flags=71" to "Flags=67" for HKCU...

So now every instance of that Flags registry item in my BRANDING.CAB has been set to 67(decimal) which corresponds to the box for zone 2 (Trusted Sites) being unchecked.

When I deploy this customized IE 11 install to non-domain joined computers, I STILL have the box "Require server verification" checked.  Looking in the HKCU registry for the value, I see the value set to 47(hex)/71(dec)  which is incorrect.   I cannot figure out what thing is setting this value on the user account.

What's more, looking in the folder CUSTOM that gets created in the Internet Explorer program files, I can see that my desired settings are in the .INF files.  They just don't get applied to the current user - or some other process comes along and overwrites my settings.

Anyone know what is causing that one registry setting to not follow whats in the INF files?

IE 11 User Authentication options

I work for a large enterprise developing web applications for internal users. As part of this I need to test web application (Intranet) with multiple user ids to make sure that role based logic..etc is working. Until IE 9, I used to set the User Authentication->Log on to Prompt for User name and password for local intranet zone. Once it's set, it used to stay like that until I change it to something else. But after upgrading to IE 11, this is resetting to default option of "Automatic Logon only to intranet zone". Any idea of this behavior? is it IE 11 behavior or any  corporate group policy I should check that's forcing this behavior?

IE 11 Enterprise site list not working

My clients do not load my enterprise list. I have tried the following...
1.Create a sites.xml file using the Site List Manager tool and store it on a network location accessible by all clients

2. Enabled the user based policy Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Let users turn on and use Enterprise Mode from the Tools menu"

3.Enabled the "Use the Enterprise Mode IE website list" group policy option and entered the appropriate URL to access the sites.xml file.
3.Verified that the client applied the policy

The Key get written to the Registry

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode]
"Enable"=""
"SiteList"="\\Servername\share\sites.xml

But it does not seem like my list is being used.
According to this link https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/6c266558-a7f0-4169-a0a7-668899b1653e/ie-11-enterprise-mode-on-remote-desktop-server?forum=ieitprocurrentver
A key with the current version of the enterprise list should be created
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode]

(REG_SZ)"CurrentVersion"

How ever there is no EntpriseMode Key at that location. What else could I check?

I have run Internet Explorer for more than the 65 Seconds, also have already done multiple restarts but a current version key is not created.

The Patch 2929437 is already installed and I can manually enable Enterprise mode for a website from Tools menu but the website which I have mentioned is not opening automatically in Enterprise mode

Malware and multiple Windows

I seem to have a new malware/virus on my machines. A couple of days ago Internet Explorer 11 started opening multiple 'blank page' windows on several of my machines. The task manager has also been disabled by this bug. It is a constant thing. It will not stop.

No anti-virus or anti-malware will detect anything.

Has anyone had an issue with Internet Explorer 11 opening multiple windows?

Thanks!

Memory Utilization for IE browser 8,9,10,11

Hi,

I want to know how memory is utilised inside IE browser.

We have a page on which  we load many screens one by one at a time.

If we close the screen, the memory is not released.(checking in the Task Manager "Processes" Tab)

So wanted to understand is there a limit, where it will start releasing memory or we are experiencing Memory leakage in IE browser.

Cannot Access any Google site with IE8 (Need to Sign into Google Drive app)

Hi All,

I'm having a real frustration with Windows 2003 Server x32 and Internet Explorer 8.

I'm running Dynamics NAV on this server and simply want to backup the DB's to a Google Drive folder so that they get synced to Google Drive nightly.  For this I need to install and sign-in to the Google Drive downloadable application.

However, Google Drive opens up a IE dialog for the sign-in and I get this:

In IE itself I cannot access any Google domain site, including Youtube. (I get the same result as above in the actual browser). I also have Chrome installed on this server, and Ican access all of those sites in Chrome.

I understand that IE8 is no longer supported by Google, and im guessing that this is the issue.  However, I don't think there is a newer version of IE available for Server 2003 x32.

I have done a full reset on IE, run ipconfig /flushdns, checked the host file just in case and nada.  I still get the cannot display error.

Any suggestions?  I just need to get around this dialog to sign into Google Drive , and I'll never need to use IE for any other reason.

Thanks for any help,

Andrew
