Unable to view SSL certificate in IE11

$

Hi,

I'm feeling really dumb but I can't figure out how to view the details of an SSL certificate in IE11.

On previous version of IE you would simply click on the padlock that appears in the address bar and then select view certificate. On IE11 the padlock does not appear. The particular problem I'm having is that I'm trying to diagnose why Windows 8.1 with IE11 is rejecting a perfectly valid cert. All I get is a screen telling me that there is a problem with the certificate (it says that the cert is revoked) but no details and I can't figure out how to view the details.

Booting up IE 9 using tabs from last session

I use a graphics site that enables me to make changes to the structure of a graph.  In Google Chrome, by using Settings, On Start Up, Continue Where I Left Off, I can re-boot the computer and return to that tab with all of my changes still intact. In IE 9/11, when I boot up the computer the tab that is opened is the beginning URL for that site, and all of my changes/revisions are lost.  Is there an IE setting that I can update that will achieve the same thing as that employed in Google Chrome?

Enterprise Site Discovery for Windows 8.1 IE 11

Hi All,

We are planning to upgrade Windows 7 to windows 8.1. As a task before upgrade, we following Microsoft article to deploy Enterprise Site Discovery to collect necessary IE information.

Collect data using Enterprise Site Discovery

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn833204.aspx

In the link above, Microsoft provided SCCM Report Sample – ActiveX.rdll and SCCM Report Sample – Site Discovery.rdl. I have imported the two templates to SQL reporting service but getting error when generating report.

My questions is if I need to modify SCCM Report Sample – ActiveX.rdll and SCCM Report Sample – Site Discovery.rdl. or I can direct import the templates  and generate reporting after connecting to correct datasoure.

Thanks in advanced.

This happens when trying to run Internet Explorer short cuts or iexplore.exe directly. I have had a searched around and given the number of users that with the issue I'm surprised if not found more info

Has MS stop using Event Log Online?

I did a search of the issue and found this

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/509e3d8b-2541-4aef-8cde-6a9b9187a37c/event-viewer-online-help-problem

After reading I did as instruction I saw that I already had the 1st link so I put in the second link and still I had the same result (We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found.) I then right click to open in new tab and still the same (We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found.) page came up I did it for the second link at one point I was asked to sign in and still that page, then I clicked the link directly and got the page I expected. I put the 1st link back in and got Event Log Online link in Event Viewer working again. Still wondering why the misdirect in the first place?

How do I stop IE 11 from renaming downloads

$

IE 11 renames files. For instance, .exe files become _exe, .zip become _zip. This is happening on Win 7 Ultimate-64-bit, Win 7 Pro 64-bit, and Win 8.1 Update.

This interferes with my ability to get updates to my Visual Studio and many other programming tools.

IE 11 won't even support the Akami system used by MS.

As far as I know all the security settings are set to allow downloads. Windows Firewall is configured to tell me when it blocks a program.

I read an earlier blog post from the IE Team that says this problem is due to some sites being creative!?!

The latest Firefox has no issues downloading.

Internet Explorer 11 Enterprise Mode: How to add local htm files to the sitelist

$

We have a legacy application that requires IE8 to function correctly.  It generates htm files locally as well as having GUI elements requiring IE8 to display correctly.  I'm hoping I can get Enterprise Mode to render the app GUI elements and local htm files, while allowing regular web browsing without Enterprise Mode.

.PDF File extension being stripped from download Internet Explorer (also certain sites not loading in IE but will in Chrome)

$

A really weird issue has arisen on a 2012R2 Terminal server.

In IE or Chrome, when a PDF is downloaded, the file extension will be stripped from the name. (.exe and .zip files do not appear to suffer)

For example items on this page, beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/03452791/filing-history

Download from the site without the file extension on them and need to have it added manually.

This happens in both Chrome and IE11 but do not appear to happen at our other customers or even in our own office.

Second Issue is related to the same customer, in that on the same terminal server certain sites will not load in IE but will load perfectly in Chrome.

The following page is a PDF as well so it might be a related issue, when trying to load it in IE they get a "This page can't be displayed" This happens with other sites but I do not have a list of them at the moment.

http://goo.gl/fAhGE6 is the shortlink for it.

The weirder thing is that their other servers have no problem with this site and they all use the same server for DNS as well.

For opening PDF files we currently have Foxit Reader installed. Which has worked perfect over the past 2 years.

Can anyone think of a setting that might be causing it?

IE11 "ignoring" Applocker policies??

$

We've recently updated to IE11 everywhere and I've noticed a very odd (and potentially worrying) problem.

We have AppLocker policies that prevent the running of EXE files from anywhere but certain locations on user's workstations.  Non-admin Users certainly CANNOT run executables from their DOWNLOADS folder for example.

However, when IE11 downloads a file (say the PUTTY.EXE from http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.htm) it gives you the option to RUN or SAVE it.  If a user selects RUN, the executable will, in fact, run!  IE11 does not save the EXE in the Downloads folder first nor does it appear to save it anywhere else that we can see.  Perhaps it puts it in a temporary file/folder somewhere?

If the user selects SAVE instead of RUN the file is saved in the Downloads folder and then the AppLocker policies take effect and the user is prevented from running the EXE

So - what gives?  Does IE11 allowing the execution of downloaded executables without saving them first?

IE 11 blocks access to "Microsoft Update" service

$

Using Windows Update on Windows 7 SP1, there is an option to enable "Microsoft Update" at the bottom to also update Office and other Microsoft applications:

Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more.

,

This opens a webpage, which in IE 10 and earlier, allows me to enable Microsoft Update.

However, IE 11 does not show the page to enable Microsoft Update but shows a useless and unrelated help message:

Use your Start menu to check for updates

How am I supposed to enable the optional Microsoft Update service now?

Preventing unneccessary downloads during IE11 installation

$

I am performing an upgrade to IE11 and wish to minimize downloads from the internet during installation. I have packaged using IEAK and know how to include the prerequisites.

My question is regarding the Neutral Pack

On some systems I receive the following in the log:

“The neutral pack was successfully downloaded from the internet. Installation will continue using the downloaded package.”

What is the neutral pack, how large is it? My concern is that I could saturate the WAN if too many machines are downloading a file at once depending on the size of the file.

On other machines the message is:

“The neutral pack was not successfully downloaded from the internet. Installation will continue using the extracted package.”

I haven’t been able to find details on this neutral pack.  Anyone have any insight?

On quite a few other machines during install multiple language packs are downloaded even though all the installations are the English language version. I’d like to find the cause for this as well.

Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

IE11 Enterprise Mode - sites.xml file continually locked, unable to be edited

As the title states, we're having issues with the our sites.xml file being locked somehow, preventing anyone from actually editing the file to make changes. The file is located on a network share, and we've nearly exhaust efforts in attempting to figure out what exactly is locking this file. It's not the virus scanner, and it doesn't appear to be the clients (nothing is attempting to open the file with write access, as far as we can tell).

Has anyone encountered anything like this before with IEEM? If so, can you point me in the right direction?

Human-Readable Enterprise Mode Site List format?

$

We maintain a large Enterprise Mode Site List in XML and have hundreds of web developers and site stakeholders who need to be able to review the file to see what it contains. But it's in XML format and it's not clear for the average user how to interpret it or understand how the XML code translates into different modes of emulation.

Has anyone worked out a parsing for the XML file to put it into a human-readable format so that it is clear which sites or pages are in Enterprise Mode, and which mode of emulation they are in?

how do I set up my e mail so I can attach pix from "photos"

I am not able to attach photos to any of my e-mail accounts".

When I am  in any photos program and I click "send" to send a pix via e-mail I get the following message;

"there is no e-mail program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an e-mail program or, if  one is already installed create an association in the default programs control panel".

And that is the problem. The Default Programs shows 4 choices, but none of the is in plain English. I have tried associating the entire selection in al 4 but I still am unable to e-mail a pix .

But all 3 of my e-mail accounts work fine.

Enterprise Mode Site List Manager Tool for Windows 10 Schema v2 download? Or, Why doesn't v1 schema site list redirect sites from Edge to IE11?

$

0

(NOTE:  Links open in a new tab.)

In the TechNet article here I see reference to a schema v.2 for the EMIE tool. It will apparently spit out the xml using the new version 2 of the schema. But the download link only goes to downloads for Win7/8 (schema v.1), and I cannot find any reference to where I can obtain the Windows 10 version.

For example, this article specifically references a Windows 10 version, where this one references Windows 7 and 8.  Finding the Windows 10 version has proven impossible so far.

We have several sites which need to be opened in IE instead of Edge, and using our old Enterprise Mode site list is not working on our Windows 10 clients.

Current site list example:

<rules version="4">
    <emie>
          <domain exclude="false">www.contoso.com</domain>
    </emie>
</rules>

Etc.

Reading about the v.2 schema leads me to think that the output from the tool is incorrect.  The documentation suggests that the output for Windows 10 should be:

<site-list version="205">
  <site url="www.contoso.com">
    <compat-mode>IE8Enterprise</compat-mode>
    <open-in>IE11</open-in>
  </site>
</site-list>

Or am I missing something here?

IE 11 Enterprise Mode

Hi,

We need to enable Enterprise mode for all users in our Domain and there should be a list of websites for which the mode will be enabled. I have enabled the setting "Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Let users turn on and use Enterprise Mode from the Tools menu" but no sure how to provide site list in policy. I have list of sites in .txt file but I am not sure if I specify the path as\\servername\doc.txt will work or not.

I have checked the links as below which talks about creating the file using "Windows 10 Enterprise Mode Site List Manager tool" but I am not able to find that tool in Windows 10 PC or internet.

Please suggest how can I specify the list of websites to be opened in Enterprise mode.
