IE 11 as the default browser over Edge

$

I set IE 11 as the default browser but every time I click on a link in an email I still get the question of which browser I want to open the link in.  I click Internet Explorer and select the "Always open with this app" and click ok.  The next time I click on a link in an email I am again asked to select a browser to open.

How do I fix this permanently so that IE opens instead of edge?

Packaging IE11 prerequisite updates with IEAK

I would like to deploy IE11 using IEAK. I'm trying to package the IE11 prerequisite updates into the exe\msi it outputs but the installer is still trying to go out to the Internet to grab them from Microsoft updates. I want to avoid this. I am adding the updates via the Custom Components phase in the IEAK Wizard but I am not sure if this even works or if I am even using the correct command. I know the cabs are being inserted into the package because the size of the IE11-Setup-Full.exe\msi grows proportionality with the included cab files.

The expand command keeps getting truncated when I return to the Wizard no matter what I put so I am guessing its incorrect. IEAK documentation is lacking in this area.

Microsoft Edge Browser Question / Comment

Hello,

When using the Edge browser on my desktop, when I open a new tab, is there a way for me to be able to begin typing in the search box *without* having to put the cursor in the search box?

In the Edge browser on my Windows phone (mobile 10), can I enable Swype to type words in my Edge address/search box?

Thank you, Andrew

File Transfer Manager Not Working on IE 11 - Win7

Hi Everybody,

after the IE11 has been installed on my system by windows update, the Microsoft File Transfer Manager (FTM) doesn't work anymore.

I think is because my system is 64bit and the IE11 runs always in 64bit mode even when it is started from "program files (x86)" folder.

I tried uninstall, reinstall and nothing.

I installed FTM by MSI file but without success.

I removed completely FTM from the system and acessed the Technet download site and the MSDN download site (to reinstall the activeX) but nothing happened.

Currently, I only can download files by direct download.

Any sugestions?

Receiving an ajax error when using GoDaddy Plesk website

Hello,

I had to recently replace my development PC.  I don't recall right now if I had upgraded the previous machine to Win 8.1 yet, it originally had Win 8.  I also don't recall which version of IE I was using on the previous PC.  This is only relevant because the problem I will describe here was NOT present before upgrading to the new PC.

The PC with the problem is a premium Dell workstation running Win 8.1 and IE11.  I am not getting this error on any other website I visit.

I am getting the following error intermittently when using the GoDaddy site:

The debugger shows the following:

So as is always the case with the non-Microsoft crowd, they will point out the voluminous number of internet posts about problems with any variety of IE versions.  But I figure I should simply ask what's going on here and perhaps I can forward back to GoDaddy the real issue.

Do I need to have some special feature turned on or off in IE Options > Advanced?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Alan

TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 disappearing from IE 11

I am a non-prolific, retired home windows user.  I have a PC running windows 7 home premium and IE 11.  A few months ago I went to check my email at Yahoo from my home page and the Yahoo page would NOT open.  I went to the advanced properties of IE and discovered that 3 boxes (tls 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 were NO LONGER checked.  I checked them, hit apply and OK and the Yahoo page worked fine.  Now, every single day when I open IE those same 3 boxes are UNCHECKED.  Once I check them, if I let my PC sit idle for awhile the settings/boxes become UNCHECKED.  I do not have a clue as to what is causing this problem nor how to fix it.  I contacted Microsoft On-line support and the tech took over my PC for awhile to see if she could find the problem.  She never said if she found any problem all she said was that I would HAVE to purchase the YEARLY subscription to their support services.  As I said I am retired and on a fixed income and cannot afford the large fee to solve just ONE SINGLE PROBLEM by them.
I posted this problem yesterday and Scott Sander suggested I open a new problem here as the area I originally posted it was already listed as resolved and Scott indicated I probably would not get any help there.  I've read some of the answers there and (like I said) I'm a novice and was lost reading them (EXAMPLE: went into REGEDIT but could NOT find the HKEY that was listed in one of the responses).  Appreciate any and all help I can get.  Thanks all.

Hello - I have a user that is trying to select Enterprise mode but it never enables Enterprise mode and the check never shows up next to Enterprise mode. If I logon with a different user it works fine so it looks to be the users profile.  Before I recreate the user profile I was hoping somebody else as come across a better solution.

I have Internet Explorer 11 on a Windows 8.1 machine.   A few days ago, my Internet Explorer stopped working.  When I try to open it, a pop-up will come up stating "View and track downloads" and I have the option to save the file, then open.  However when I select "open" nothing happens.   I am not able to use Internet Explorer.   Google Chrome however works just fine.

Internet Explorer downloading/saving PDF rather than opening?

Hi there,

We are seeing quite a few users in our company getting a prompt to save the PDF they want to open, instead of it just opening. I can't find the setting to change this anywhere.

Does anyone know where the setting is or where the registry key is?

Also does anyone know how to disable the open confirmation prompt (orange bar along the bottom).

Thanks :)

How can I remove the iVIDI pop up adware virus?  Every site I've found deals with either the Search hijacker or requires downloading a useless malware tool.  I know how to get into the registry but can't identify the right item to search and remove.  I have Windows 8.1.

IE11 Gripes

Hi Folks,

I'm planning an automated roll-out of IE11. Maybe I'm missing something but it appears to me that MS haven't been very helpful with providing us with a package that will minimize the disruption to end users.

Here are my observations thus far.

1. After installing IE11 Enterprise mode wasn't available. After a lot of digging I found out it only comes with certain versions. If you download the IE11 installer direct from MS (as of August 31 2015) and deploy it you won't get Enterprise Mode until you install an upgrade patch.

2. Upgrade KB2929437 will enable Enterprise Mode. However, it comes as an MSU file which, unlike a conventional updates doesn't extract to a CAB file. So this is not IEAK friendly.

3. From my own experience and that of others who used IEAK 11 to create an MSI installer, it appears the per-requisate updates I've set to install before the IE11 install are ignored. The installer still tries to update via the Internet

4. When the IE11 pre-req patches are installed a restart is needed before the IE11 installer can kick off (same post as above).  This makes an automated deployment very difficult. There is a suggestion of using DISM in the post above but there isn't consensus that you can get away without restarting.

IE default inprivate new tab

There are many posts concerning inprivate settings.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?searchTerm=inprivate

We are looking for a comprehensive inprivate workstation deployment.

Internet Options > General > Home page field, use about:inprivate

Ctrl-Shift-P and Ctrl-K are effective, but do not stop clicked links opening in non-private tabs.
Using IE's inprivate browsing, new tabs are about:tabs.

How do we make new tabs and fresh links open as default inprivate pages?

Microsoft SSRS 2012 RSClientPrint ActiveX component doesn't install/run within IE 11

All,

We are running into an issue, where we see that the "print" button as available on the Microsoft Reporting Server site does not work on our Windows 7/8.1 systems. When pressing the button, a popup appears with the message "Printing is not available. Verify that ActiveX is enabled, or try using Internet Explorer for  the desktop."

I have added the site to trusted sites, and allowed download and run of signed ActiveX controls, as described here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155874(v=sql.110).aspx ).

I have configured the ActiveX Installer service, as described here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd631688(v=ws.10).aspx). After that action I see in the eventlog the following:

The ActiveX control http://server/Reports/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?ReportSession=ao4hl1rhljvuac45oppnij55&Culture=1043&CultureOverrides=False&UICulture=9&UICultureOverrides=False&ReportStack=1&ControlID=e667391f2e7b4fa48db718cdfe60e61c&OpType=PrintCab&Arch=X86 from host URL http://mesbrouwen passed all policy checks.

....seems like the ActiveX object is marked as "ok"... but even then the file is not installed. Looking at a Process Monitor dump, I see the cab-file (RSClientPrint-x86.cab) is downloaded, but never reaches "Windows\Downloaded Program Files".

I would like to avoid having to deploy the component using a package. Does anyone have an idea? (googling around didn't provide me any answers that work for me -> which where the options mentioned above)

Help is greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Sjoerd

IE9: Changing the default download option from 'save' to 'save as'

$

While I have sent feedback into Microsoft, I thought I might post here aswell.

In IE9 when you click a download, a pop-up from the bottom asks 'Do you want to open or save file.xxx from x.com' then gives you the option to 'Open' 'Save' or 'Cancel'

During testing, we found that users would just click 'Save' then not know where the file they downloaded went. After explaining that it was in the downloads, they complained that previously they just chose where to save the file and it saved there. Now they have to open downloads and copy paste to the location.

We could teach the users to always drop down and select 'Save as' but I can tell you it would be a lot easier if there was a group policy, or a default we can change so the default was 'Save as'

Other than that, I have no complaints :D.
