IE9 and IE10 cannot download/open any files

$

We are seeing this issue pretty consistently across the board with IE9 and IE10, and everything we have researched has not worked.  We notice that if we are logged in as administrator on a computer  (both PC's running Windows 7 and zero-client terminals), we do not experience the issue.   When we log back in as the user, we cannot open, save, or save as any downloads.

We have deleted all appropriate registry entries, removed and reinstalled IE9 and IE10 on different computers, removed any group policy that may apply to our internet settings for testing, and removed our av program for testing only.

Across the net we see multiple questions on this issue, but no clear-cut answer.  Has anyone come up with a standard answer for this?  Very frustrating...we didn't experience this on the same systems, same operating system, when we were on IE8.

How to make internet explorer the default for mailto to use google mail

When I select set default programas/internet explorer/choose defaults for this program MAILTO protocol is not there.

If I do exactly the same but  selecting Chrome: MAILTO is there.

I want that every time I click on a link to send an email google mail opens in internet explorer browser.

I also have tried:

to "associate a file type or protocol with a specific program" option MAILTO but I only have chrome, outlook and thunderbird but not Internet explorer!

How Can I select InternetExplorer as my default in MAILTO protocol??

Thanks!

Can't open .mht file in IE10.

I can't open my previously save .mht file in IE10! How the hell do I fix it!? Every time I click open, nothing happens! AT ALL! It never happened when I had IE8. So please either give me a damn solution to fix this or a way to re-install IE8.

I can't help but feel that IE8 is more of a step up than IE10. Each changes frustrates me more than anything! I'm actually, ACTUALLY even considering downloading Chrome if it help me view my save files!

Can't "302 Found" redirect to a custom protocol handler

$

We have a line-of-business app that can be called upon via a custom protocol handler to display data. SharePoint does not allow custom protocol handlers for URL's, so I wrote a simple ASP page that accepts the URL as a parameter, then redirects using a 302 to that URL.

If I test my ASP page by typing a URL in to Internet Explorer, then the redirect works and the custom protocol handler works.

However, if I add a link to a SharePoint page (or any other type of page, including a static HTML file server straight through IIS) I get "The webpage cannot be displayed" with the cause of "Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed.".

I understand that this might be some kind of security restriction but I can't find a way to relax it or create an exception.

Any ideas?

Hi ,

I am facing problem with Restricted security zone.

I have an html file in my local drive. When I try opening this file in IE, it always opens it in restriced zone, so doesn't get rendered.

To avoid it, I added this file location in 'Local Intranet' security zone (Tools->Internet Options->security->Local Intranet->Advance->Add), But could not work this way too.

Please help me with this.

Thanks in advance!

Move Google search

HI I was having multiple problems with IE 10 and my tech was here yesterday thinking he fixed my issues which are: the Google search bar on IE 10 is on the left side under file edit view etc. I want to move it to the right side next to my name. I unlocked the tool bar but I can't move Google Search. If I follow directions that I have found on many pages all I can do is stretch the search box I can't move it.

2nd issue no matter how many times I click auto complete it becomes unchecked. How can I fix these two issues?

Thanks

I faced this problem after upgrading to internet explorer 11 preview. It was working fine with ie 10. When I'm trying to translate a word using accelerator I can't change the target language by clicking on it (the menu of available languages for translations does not apper).

It keeps like this: from English (Auto-Detected) to English...

what is the problem ???

"Search Here"

Right next to my webpage tabs is a search bar with a green/red/blue/yellow icon, the words Search Hear and then a blue button with the word search on it. When I go to Manage Ad-ons, it is listed under Search Providers. I press the Remove button and it will disappear from the list but not from the brower itself and when I exit out then come back on it has reappeared on the list of searched providers. I cannot find out who operates this ad-on and it says that none of its information is avalible.

How do I get rid of this thing?

IE10 Not following Compatibility Code in Website Head.

$

My website had been working fine for this it seems. I'm guessing the clients I tested with were running IE9 though and have updated to IE10.

I have tried the following variations on the code to force my website to be viewed in IE7 compatability mode:

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=IE7" />
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7">
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

None of it works. I can't figure why there's not a CLEAR explanation of what is needed from Microsoft - people are all over the net "guessing" at the right settings and experimenting/googling until they find the right code to put in.

The code is at the very top of the <head> and viewing the source of the site confirms it's there and should be applied. But it doesn't.

This is ruining the appearance of my site and probably costing me money - what renders fine in other browsers doesn't in IE.

WHAT IS THE EXACT CODE I NEED TO MAKE INTERNET EXPLORER WORK PROPERLY???

IE9 open in new window/tab does not load

Running Internet Explorer v9.0.8112.16421 on Windows 7 Pro x64 with SP1.

When the browser is asked to open a page in a new window or tab, the new blank window or tab appears, but nothing loads. There is a spinning circle in the address bar and along side the mouse cursor, but nothing more happens.

This behavior is observed whether you click on a link using target="_blank" or right click on a link and select open in new window. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled IE9. I have also experimented with the IE tabbed browsing settings including disabling tabbed browsing.

OS Win. 7 Premium 64 bit and IE 10: IE 10 suddenly stopped function...strange 'crash'.

$

So, originally in Win. 7 Prem. x64 I.Explorer 10 was installed and working fine: Firefox and Chrome were installed as well, I checked to assure I.Explorer was set as default--you must go to "setting programs and default" in Control Panel because IE 10 won't set completely to default in "Options".

Then I read instruction data over installing older programs on this computer-ASUS N73S laptop an amazingly capable device-and found a quote I'll need to paraphrase, 'don't worry about installing any older programs: Win. 7 can accommodate them'. So I installed some of my favorite XP Home Sp3 x32 stuff and that's when IE 10 'gave-it-up'. ' went looking in C: to perhaps understand why IE 10 when 'called' flashed a ghost frame on the Desktop and didn't start: since I'd looked over C: drive, when I first started the computer, just to see what was 'under-the-hood', I noticed "Program Files", just ONE, and closed to go after getting use to the 7 x64 program quirks.

After, IE 10 became a 'ghost', I went back to C: drive and found ANOTHER "Program Files" folder marked (x86): wasn't mentioned under 'its OK to 'seat' older programs in the "don't worry" Win. 7 OS'. Then I got serious and went to msconfig put the OS into 'clean-start' mode and tried IE 10 once more..."Safe Mode"...=IE absolutely would not play nice; then went back to C: drive and opened (x86) "Program Files": Shocked(!) to find IE 10 for the 64 bit OS in the (x86) "Program File" as well!

I didn't put it there!!!

' assumed that when called both copies of IE 10 tried to 'answer' and 'defeated' each other causing a no-start instant crash displaying the 'ghost-frame'; just to tick me off, probably.

As you well know, even if you empty "Program Files" by uninstalling programs in it, then try and delete the empty folder, most Win. OS's will put a 'death-grip' on their "system file": uninstalled IE 10 downloaded a copy of both models (suggested in the M.Soft K.base) and dutifully installed both: 32 bit first then 64 bit as an 'update': BUT, each and every time I installed either, 1, I couldn't directwhere they were to be installed; 2, because they and the OS had their own ideas where the Programs would go. So, IE 10 ALWAYS installed in both C:\Program Files-folders. IE 9 x64 the same.

[And now, worse, I'm stuck with, Firefox, that doesn't download worth a damn: you get the program 'shell' or container and the actual program set just next to the shell: the program is captioned program.exe.part;delete .part and sometimes the container will 'eat' its program, then you can install...maybe.]

I attempted to convey this problem in an amusing way: BUT, I am very far from amused: 1, Microsoft rushes new OS's out the door like pancakes 2, then M soft 'slaughters' (removes support for) its older programs 3, which forces M. soft users to adopt the latest piece of M.soft's OS failures that prove themselves deficient: you can 'tell' by all the thousands of Updates needed for each; that they came out M.soft's doors RAW and unperfected.

So, I'm stuck with this glitchy OS 7 64 bit "PREMIUM" model that is on its way to killing itself.

I've gone through every bit of info. I could find 'everywhere' and tried it...no improvement.

So, M.soft Techies, now what do I do? Please do not tarry for I'm a total and permanent disabled Vietnam Veteran with 16 diseases due to being 'sprayed' in Vietnam by the CIA: my last kidney is tottering and in March I'll start my 69th year.

Please do solve this problem before my rebuilt heart becomes 'non-default'.

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me out here. Today I open my IE9 and this web site (search.conduit.com/?SearchSource=10&ctid=CT3196716) opens instead of my normal home page (msn.com/). Does anyone know of a solution were I can set my home page back to MSN.com? By the way I’m running windows 7.

I continually have problems accessing the Office 365 for business forum using MS Explorer (I'm on v10 but had the same
problems with v9). I have to use Chrome which is pretty annoying. I get repeated "not responding" errors. Any ideas?

Windows XP Sp3 & IE8 -- Error Opening .asp page on a local machine

Hi,

I have Windows XP SP3 with IE8. I have an application which saves .asp pages from the server to a local machine. These local files are then utilized to open the application in a cached mode when the network is down.

With IE8, I found that .asp local page doesn't render the web page and displays the code instead.

I tried with a very simple "hello world" html content but saving it as a .asp file and I could replicate the issue.

This used to work fine with IE6.

Anyone has an idea if there is an issue with IE8?

Thanks,

IE10 wont allow me to open FTP files in Explorer View

I have an FTP internally that is used to host PDF & HTML files. Previously all users could log onto this FTP site and double click on any file content to have it open within the default browser. We use FTP in explorer view so each user can set their terminals to save their passwords, hence they log straight into their root folder on the FTP - if we use the FTP list view in the browser this doesnt happen, meaning user 9999 has a long way to scroll to find their documents!
This has always worked absolutely fine until IE10 has been installed, now any user with IE10 cant open files straight from the FTP via the Explorer view. The file doesnt download, the destination file ends up at 0KB so just doesnt open in the browser. Roll back to IE9 fixes the problem. Using Chrome as the default browser fixes the problem. Using the FTP list view also works fine (however we cant use this since it wont default to users root folder that they have access to)
Ive attempted everything i can think of without luck, its looking like we're going to have to block IE10 or switch to Chrome. Basically opening files from any FTP site (have tested others) in explorer view with IE10 installed just isnt working. You can however copy the document to the local machine then open ok..
Any ideas, what am i missing here!?
Cheers!!!
