Compatibility Sites GPO

I've read that Microsoft has taken out the features:

Turn on Internet Explorer 7 Standards Mode
Turn off Compatibility View button
Turn off Quick Tabs functionality
Turn off the quick pick menu
Use large icons for command buttons

I've read some more articles that say that IE has new features, but my problem is that I cannot edit this list on my Windows 7 PCs that are running compatibility mode for certain sites.  The only way I can edit that site list is to go to employee's computers and that will take forever.  Does anyone know another way of adding these sites through a GPO?

Thanks for the information

I have an svg and svgz file. I cannot open them in IE 11. I can open them in Inkscape. Can I view them in IE? If so please tell me simply step by step how I can view them in IE11. I am a newcomer to IE and am not familiar with it as I don't use it as my default browser. I do have the svg associated with Internet Explorer.  Thanks, Bob.

Failed to install ActiveX on IE 11

We found our ActiveX failed to install after IE 11 updates to version: 11.0.9600.17842  , KB3058515.

"An add-on for this website failed to run."

We verified that, we don't have this issue before this version of IE.

I also tried other activex, also can not install.

Can someone explain what happened about this upgrade ?

Extra Tabs opening in Internet Explorer

I use the following Powershell code to configure the IE Home Pages:

## Set Internet Explorer Home Pages in registry
Write-Verbose "Setting Internet Explorer Home Pages"
$HPKey = "HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\main"
$URL1 = "http://www.williamblair.com"
$URL2 = "http://www.wbremote.com"

Start-Process iexplore.exe
Stop-Process -ProcessName iexplore

Set-ItemProperty -Path $HPKey -Name "Start Page" -Value $URL1
Set-ItemProperty -Path $HPKey -Name "Secondary Start Pages" -Value $URL2

Everything gets set correctly, but when i first start IE, I get extra tabs that open up with strange Chinese characters in them in addition to the home pages I select.

Anyone have any ideas why this happens?

IE 11 ignoring pop-up allow exceptions from group policy

$

I see a ton of postings on the web about IE9 ignoring group policy pop-up blocker exceptions, but I'm having the same issue with IE11.

The policy settings I have attempted to use is called "Pop-up allow list", which is enabled and lists my site in the form of "http:// mysite.com" (excluding the space after //, which I've added only so this message would post).

Afterward, I can see on a Windows 7 test computer that a registry entry has been made in "HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\New Windows\Allow" for the site I wish to exclude.  I take this as proof my group policy setting has been applied.  But, it has no effect.  The site still doesn't work, and the URL is still not listed in the pop-up exceptions list in IE.

I also tried using the same Group Policy setting under the computer policies, which likewise resulted in a new registry entry in "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\New Windows\Allow".  This also fails to work, and does not result in the site in questions appearing in the exception list.

In looking through the registry, I see that any manually added pop-up exceptions are stored in "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\New Windows\Allow".  If I manually add my site here, or via the IE gui, then the site works as expected.

What am I missing here? Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Tif File Might have been moved or deleted download message

Hello,

When trying to open TIF attachments sometimes we are getting "xxxx.tif might have been moved or deleted". The message gives you the option to click on Retry, Cancel or View Download. Once we click on retry the attachment will open. The message will be random: the message is not triggered by file size. This issue is more of an inconvenience than an urgent matter. We are still able to open attachments but have to click on the retry button.

This is for a web based application. The problem has occurred when we upgraded to IE11 (windows 7). I searched and found this error that others were having but there was no resolution to the problem. I did find that this was a known issue and bug in IE11. Do you know if there was ever a resolution for this issue? Thank you.

IE11: Enable addressbar search via GPO

$

Hello,

we have a GPO in use for our IE11. At the moment the search in the adress bar is not working and we would like to get it working again.

As far as I know the following gpo entries are responsible for that:

User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows Components->Internet Explorer->Internet Settings->Advanced settings->Searching

Comes out they are configred to allow the search in the address bar; but even if we change the status of both entries to "not configured" nothing is changing. Anything I type in gets a "http://" in front and is not redirected to bing or google... :(

Is there any other GPO rule that can disable the address bar search function or is responsible for the "http://"?

Thanks a lot

Jan

Grpou policy preferences Application

Hi all,
I create two policies for internet explorer.
The GPO are made using Gpo preferences:
One policy is for the home page applied to all users
Another one is for proxy setting and home page for users with internet access
The scope of two GPO is filtered by group membership.
Everything seems to work fine but when I move a user from a group to another I loose proxy setting.
There are some differences in GPO applying setting when Policy preferences are used?

Thank you very much

IE Per User Initialization Has Stopped working when upgrading to IE11

Hello Fellow Technicians,

I was wondering if you could assist me with an issue that I am experiencing with our IE11 upgrade.

We are upgrading IE11 (via SCCM 2012 R2) to our Win 7 Pro x64 machines that are currently running IE9.  We used the IEAK to create the package that SCCM deployed and are now running into an issue whereby following the deployment, users are logging on to the desktop and are met with the following message:

"IE Per User initialization has stopped working".  Close the Program

Explorer.exe is not running as there is no taskbar and the desktop is not loaded.

If the user clicks on "Close the Program" then the loading continues and Explorer.exe kicks in and the desktop loads normally.  IE11 then appears to function normally.  However given that the message appears for any user that it's deployed to we cannot continue with our deployment in it's current form.

Procmon cannot be run as Explorer.exe hasn't launched for me to be able to capture it.  The message is literally there straight after the logon splash screen disappears and the desktop attempts to load.

Troubleshooting steps I have tried so far:

  • Changed the Install behavior on SCCM so to install "As the user", "Whether or not the user is logged on" and "Only when the user is logged off" = All still get the issue.
  • Deployed as a task sequence with 2 reboots at the end = Still get the issue
  • Used the native IE11 Setup.exe with the /passive /norestart switch = Still get the issue.
  • Installed manually using the native IE11 Setup.exe = Still get the issue
  • Manual install using the native IE11 Setup.exe on to a Vanilla Win 7 Pro x64 image (with no updates or additional software) = Still get the issue

In the event log the following message appears:

Faulting application name: ie4uinit.exe, version: 11.0.9600.17728, time stamp: 0x550254a0

Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18847, time stamp: 0x554d7df1

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Fault offset: 0x0000000000001a93

Faulting process id: 0x7a0

Faulting application start time: 0x01d0af54a7dd1631

Faulting application path: C:\Windows\System32\ie4uinit.exe

Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\KERNELBASE.dll

Report Id: e5bdfdb3-1b47-11e5-9cbb-000c29ae385f

Because we use some security products I have been able to ascertain that literally a second before the error in the event log the following command is run:

Command Line: "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" /D /C start C:\WINDOWS\system32\ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache

After doing lots of searches on the interweb, I came across a post that suggested deleting the following keys:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{2D46B6DC-2207-486B-B523-A557E6D54B47}

And the 32-Bit equivalent key as well.

I did this after IE11 had installed and the machine rebooted but BEFORE the user logged on.  The prompt disappeared but IE11 didn't behave as it should do (we use GPO to set the homepage but IE11 was ignoring this and going straight to MSN), so we cannot use this as a solution.

Has anyone else run into the same problem out there?  I am drawing a blank here.

Microsoft SSRS 2012 RSClientPrint ActiveX component doesn't install/run within IE 11

$

All,

We are running into an issue, where we see that the "print" button as available on the Microsoft Reporting Server site does not work on our Windows 7/8.1 systems. When pressing the button, a popup appears with the message "Printing is not available. Verify that ActiveX is enabled, or try using Internet Explorer for  the desktop."

I have added the site to trusted sites, and allowed download and run of signed ActiveX controls, as described here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155874(v=sql.110).aspx ).

I have configured the ActiveX Installer service, as described here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd631688(v=ws.10).aspx). After that action I see in the eventlog the following:

The ActiveX control http://server/Reports/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?ReportSession=ao4hl1rhljvuac45oppnij55&Culture=1043&CultureOverrides=False&UICulture=9&UICultureOverrides=False&ReportStack=1&ControlID=e667391f2e7b4fa48db718cdfe60e61c&OpType=PrintCab&Arch=X86 from host URL http://mesbrouwen passed all policy checks.

....seems like the ActiveX object is marked as "ok"... but even then the file is not installed. Looking at a Process Monitor dump, I see the cab-file (RSClientPrint-x86.cab) is downloaded, but never reaches "Windows\Downloaded Program Files".

I would like to avoid having to deploy the component using a package. Does anyone have an idea? (googling around didn't provide me any answers that work for me -> which where the options mentioned above)

Help is greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Sjoerd

I am on Vista.   I have recently had a problem with Internet Explorer 9 and I am getting  the message "internet explorer has stopped working" .  I tried uninstalling my version of IE9 and then reinstalling by going to the Microsoft site and downloading IE9.  When I get to the end of the reinstall I get a message that a later version of IE9 is still on my machine and it won't finish the install.  The message says it is installing version 9.0.8112.16421 but I have version 9.0.8112.16448 still on my machine.  1) why am I not getting the install for .16448 when I go to Microsoft download site  and 2) how can I really clean out any old version of IE9 and load new?

Trusted site gives page unavailable with IE Protected Mode on

$

Folks:

IE11 works great for me with one - and only one exception.  1 site - that I trust - will not render with Protected Mode on.  If I click any link off ofhttp://www.sqlsaturday.com/Events.aspx I get a "page cannot be displayed error after 30 seconds or so.  (It behaves like a name resolution thing.

If I turn enhanced security off - no issue.  I can move around the site no issues.  But I don't want to do that when I'm having problems with just 1 site.  Is there any way to tell enhanced security "hey - this site is cool"?
