IE 11 Enterprise Mode Sites List - Must Force IE 8 Emulation to Default or Disaster

0
0

I've gone through about 100 postings thus far and not sure what I'm missing.

I have a scenario where 98% of the sites internal are IE8 compatible and in some cases IE7.  I was hoping their was an option to default IE 11 to IE 8 Emulation mode but I cannot get it working.  I'm having to add each site manually and set it to IE 8 mode when in fact I have 1000 sites that are IE 8 and 3 that need IE 11.  There is no common domain suffix.

Am I just missing something simple?  I have the latest Site Configuration Tool, I've edited manually but by default if you add nothing it defaults to Edge Mode or IE 11.  I have to add the site manually as an exclude.

I've been reading up on XML, looking for a code solution or hack.  All workstations and Citrix must be upgraded to IE 11 and Enterprise Mode is the only option.

Is there any possible way to force IE 11 to emulate IE 8 mode by default.  Something I can set in the XML file that reverses the default.  So, in other words I don't want to add 1000 sites of IE 8 mode but 3 to use IE 11.

I just cannot wrap my head around there not being this option.

Example: The two sites below run in IE 8 mode.  I want everything to run in IE 8 mode and not have to add but only add for any other exclusion.  Otherwise, this is going to be a disaster of a project.

IE 11 in Server 2012 R2 When printing in Session ID = 0 Print error

When trying to print in Session ID = 0 from IE 11 on Server 2012 R2 (more then 1 server) i get this error messege:

one of our customers said microsoft support installed some kind of a plugin for IE but they couldnt tell us which one.

can some one direct me to the plugin for te solution ?

Thanks.

IE recently crashes on on many news sites... and facebook... but reloads the page fine after the crash.

First, let me say that I've reset internet explorer settings, disabled 3rd party plugins, etc...  No impact on the problem that I'm going to describe.  I also believe this is the same behavior that was explained in this thread:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ieitprocurrentver/thread/fbab0f6c-e270-4bd8-8d5b-0d4624e070d6/

The environment is a manged one, software is fully patched and up to date with the exception of reverting to older versions to isolate the issue.  Problem is repeatable on ~120 Vista SP2 32bit machines running IE8...

News sites such as cnn.com, kdka.com, cbslocal.com and facebook.com all crash IE tabs.  Once the tab is recovered, the page loads.  Many times the initial page will load, but navigating to subpages or having a background refresh of an iframe or other element will cause the crash.  Makes me think that a tracking script of some type is involved in causing this error, as again it seems to be mostly news sites that cause the problem.

Problem signature:

I initilally thought it was a setting, user profile or machine software corruption...  But all the common solutions had no impact on the issue, until I removed IE8 on a machine that was having the problem, and the problem was resolved with IE7.  Reinstalling IE8 also did not give us a repeat of the problem.  It wasn't until I patched IE8 with the available cumulative security update that the problem returned.

 So we started working our way backwards....  IE8 + Cumulative Security Update dated Feb 8th, 2011 (MS11-003, KB2482017) is OK with all sites...  As soon as we try IE8 + Cumulative Security Update dated April 12th, 2011 (MS11-018, KB2497640) or newer, the problem returns.   They are cumulative, so I get that...  but had hoped that the bug would get fixed at some point.  To date, it hasn't.

Odd things:  We had a couple random reports of this behavior in 2011, but didn't really get an outbreak of LOTS of reports until Jan 2012...  I believe something like facebook integration / comment tracking / universal logon of some type that was recently implemented in the various news sites has brought an issue to light that has been around for a bit longer.  Also, the tests I've described are repeatable and consistant across users and machines in our environment.  Patched IE crashes, unpatched IE doesn't.

Looking for a way to make patched IE not crash.

Cached file is not getting updated (wrong entries gets updated)

When a user access a document (url is http://sirius-wiki.inspirer.orb.biz/ins/en/Documents/M_CPH-1171-00921_EN.pdf), he gets version 7 and not the current version. Looking into his local cache.

It looks like IE is confused when there are duplicate entries where only upper/lower casing differs the address. Fx the last line is notorious wrong because the current version of the document is 186KB and not 241KB.

From other desktops, I always get the correct using the URL above.

The documents are stored in SharePoint list - no approval and no versioning.
Version 7 of "M-CPH-1171-00921_EN.pdf" is 186KB, Version 8 (current version) is 241 KB

The user has of course been told to delete the cache. How can we detect this or prevent this? In this business it could be very risky to use old version of a document.

Thanks,

Jørgen

Why can't i install adblocker?

My question is simple. Why can't i install ad-blocker to IE 11? For some time now i am searching for a comfortable browsing environment, Chrome is to in your face, Firefox is a total patchwork, Opera seems to much like a Chrome knockoff so i said i'd give IE a try, but what i found was a total lack of bare minimum of add-ons needed, top of the list being or ad-blocker like extension.

IE11 CORS issue HTTPS to HTTP.

I am trying to call a http local service on port 8080 from our web app which is https through Ajax. IE11.0.9600.17691 continuously gives a Access is denied error. The call I make from the HTTPS page is like http://127.0.0.1:8080/functionname.

I have seen people being able to do this type of call(https to http), however I have never been able to get a success. I have put a breakpoint in Developer tools and the local http server is never even called. There is no pre-flight request too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My version of jquery is jquery/1.10.2.

My HTML prefers the upper right corner - why?

I have written a multi-page website. Each has the right side cut off. The whole page seems to float up to the upper-right corner and then gets lost in the scroll bars.

Even when I do  a "wrapper" div for the whole page with:

 width: 100%;
 min-width: 740px;
 max-width: 1500px;
 margin: 0 auto;
 padding-left:2%;
 padding-right:2%;

and "body-main" with css max-width 94%, the left side gets a wider margin and the right side still gets cut-off.

Install IE 11?

0

I accidentally installed IE 11 when it became available and did not like it, and I reverted back to IE 10 using methods described on Microsoft.  Well, it never worked correctly after that, but was still using it.  After several months, it wouldn't load and when I went to look for it in installed programs, is not listed.

Now I see that it is listed in Microsoft Update and want to know if I can install it even though it's not working and not listed installed programs.  Will I have any problems by trying to install it?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Actions Tab not working in Picasa Webalbums since upgrading to IE11

Since I upgraded to IE 11 the "Actions " tab in Picasa web albums has not worked. Google is blaming Microsoft. I have to log into Firefox every time I need to delete an album, change front page etc. Any hints on how I can continue using IE 11 which I prefer to FF - I have lots of albums to do and it is beginning to be a big nuisance.  Others are having the same problem and there has been no solution that I can find in any forum.

I posted this in the MS IE forum and after many suggestions that did not work, it was suggested that I post the problem here.

So you can follow the suggestions that didn't work here is the link

It wouldn't let me post a link until I have been "verified"

Thanks!

896358: Cannot open CHM files

I hope this isn't indicative of MS's patch quality continuing to take a nosedive.

I need for certain users to be able to open CHM files from a network share.  Easy cheesy.  Sadly the 'workarounds' seem to function (or not) wildly differently across OS versions and architecture.

I have Win7 64 and 32 bit machines.  64 bit work fine when the 'allowed' URLs are specified in the registry (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\HTMLhelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions - value UrlAllowList).  No zone modification needed.

However;

32 bit Win 7 machines do not work with this method.  Unless the user is a local administrator (not happening).  I cannot get them to work at all.  Can anyone please help me understand what needs to be done differently for these clients?

Thanks!

Howto to set browser title of IE11 using GPOs

0

Hello

We are moving to Windows Server 2012 R2 and therefor to Internet Explorer 11. I have already upgraded the administrative template files holded by our domain controller (.admx files on the central store).

When trying to create a GPO I just can't find a configuration item to set the browser title. I know that IEM has gone in favor of group policy preferences. But there is no such config item there as well. Am I stuck with IEAK11?

Thanks in advance

Matthias

IE11 "has stopped working" immediately after downloading a file

0
0

Hello,

I have two separate Windows 7 systems at completely different businesses. The businesses have no association whatsoever. Both have the latest Windows Updates. Both have IE11. Yesterday a client contacted me saying that she could no longer download anything using IE11. Upon investigating, I found that when the download completed, and the system attempts to scan the file, IE11 crashes. It says "Internet Explorer has stopped working". Then another client contacted me tonight with the same exact problem. The error info from one system will be at the bottom of this post. One system at one business is joined to a domain, the other system at the other business is not - just a workgroup.

I have taken these steps on both systems to try to resolve the issue:

  • Both systems have/had Windows Intune installed to manage updates, etc, along with Microsoft Endpoint Protection (that comes with Intune). I removed the Intune software and Endpoint Protection completely to see if that was the issue, and that did not help. I contacted Intune support, but I don't think they will help me me since it is not related to Intune (I am paying for the version that includes the Desktop OS license).
  • Cleared the IE temp files/history
  • Reset IE11 to defaults
  • Uninstalled IE11 and tried IE10 - IE10 seems to download files, but it reports back saying that the file could not be downloaded and to "try again", even though the file looks complete in the download folder.
  • Removing the Internet Explorer feature from Programs and Features, and then reinstalling it.
  • It would not be that big of a deal to just use Chrome or Firefox, but one client has insurance websites that require IE in order to function.

how to resolve "SCRIPT70: Permission Denied" on IE10?

Hi there,

One some of IE10/WIN7 machines, the javascript-coded popup menu is disabled on an enterprise web application. I enabled the developer tools and found the following error. It is clear that the issue is not with the web application, but with IE or client machine configuration. I have been searching for the solution for one week and still go nowhere.  The javascript is enabled on browser side. What information shall I collect to narrow down the problem? Thank you.

Error Msg is:

SCRIPT70: Permission Denied

PopupMenu.js, line 305 character 1.

ie11 Group Policy - MS Laziest developers.

0

Why is every time i have to deal with anything to do with microsoft, I end up wanting to bang my head against the desk? The answer, lazy and incompetent developers.

They release a new version of their browser, ie 11, release new ADMX files that didn't even work to begin with. Ok so now i have the link with the brilliant installation instructions.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40905

The instructions of course, don't work. The admx files are owned by trusted installer. So a quick copy as administrator is NOT going to overwrite the files. This means I have to take ownership of the files then run the copy.

WHY NOT JUST RELEASE THE ADMX FILES IN A MICROSOFT UPDATE THAT RUNS AS TRUSTED INSTALLER AND OVERWRITES THE FILES AS REQUIRED? INSTEAD OF EXPECTING IT DEPARTMENT TO WASTE TIME.

Why is that the ie10 gpo works with ie11 but they don't rename the ie10 to ie 11, they just say oh its the same use the 10 group policy. This is the common theme throughout the group policy support by microsoft, a complete after thought.

how confusing is it with ie group policy now, there is like 3 different places you can change the ie gpo and half of the settings don't work from some of the sections and half does work. Its just a mess, a complete mess.

Internet Explorer Default Font

Hi All,

Can you please help with the following -

I am trying to use a custom web font in one of my web project. I want to understand what font my web page will default to when the custom web font doesn't load for some reason (network connection etc.). I understand it should default to Internet Explorer default font in such a case. But what is the default font for Internet Explorer. Does it differ from version to version? Also is it dependent on the Windows version of the end user desktop/laptop/device?

Any feedback on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a user that when they try to log into Duke Progress Energy's website at https://www.progress-energy.com/app/loginregistration/login.aspx it will redirect them to a "one time authentication" page which requires them to use a one-time key to log in on a new computer.  When going to this one-time website (secure8.i-doxs.net) it will get an error message that says...

This page can't be displayed

Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in the Advanced settings and try connecting to https://secure8.i-doxs.net again.  If this error persists, contact your site administrator.

Well, I'm the site administrator and I can confirm that TLS 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 are all enabled and forced by GPO.  Restarting IE and rebooting did not help.  Chrome and Firefox both work flawlessly.

Edit: This is IE 11 on Windows 8.1 Enterprise.

IE 11 not able to add Search Provider

0
0

This is brand new Windows 8.1 install, freshly installed O365 and all critical updates installed.

So I click on the gear in IE, select Manage add-ons.

This opens the Manage Add-ons window, I click on Search providers, it only shows Bing.

I click on Find more search providers... at the bottom of the window, this opens IE with a list of the search engines. I click on Google, which loads the google search page.  When I click the Add to Internet Explorer button nothing happen, nothing gets added, no message gets display, NOTHING.

I see the button wants to run a javascript, so I go back in add this site to trusted sites, thinking that will allow it to run.  Close browser, re-open, try again, same outcome .... NOTHING.

So next I go and reduce the security level to low for trusted sites, figuring this will allow the script to fire off.  No luck, still nothing.

Next I go to windows features, un check IE 11, reboot, go back in again check IE 11.  Try it again, still nothing.

Finally I installed the Google Toolbar for IE check the box for making google the default search, after install reboot, guess what .... still nothing but Bing listed in search providers.

Is there another way to repair IE 11 on Windows 8.1?  I have done this many times in the past, why now is this such an issue? Can I manually put this into the registry?
