Site to Zone propagation not functioning properly (have to reset IE to default settings before it works).

Hello All,

I have been having an issue with site to zone propagation via GPO that has me perplexed.  I'll provide environment details first and then explain what I've done.

Cloud based environment with two Windows 2008R2 servers (one DC and one functioning as a workstation) and 4 Linux servers (which I only mention because the internal website we access resides on one of them but for all intents and purposes they are irrelevant) running IE 11 and both servers have all update to date patches.  IE ESC is disabled on both systems as this was seeming to prevent GPO propagation of our Intranet Site in the Intranet Zone on both the server and workstation via GPO.  Terminal Services (RDP) is being used to access both servers.

I've run gpupdate /force and the policy propagates properly to push *.test.com (that is strictly an example) to each server and it sporadically applies to my test accounts.  I've come to the conclusion that everything in the background is working properly however the point of issue is when you log on using a brand new test account with proper (non-administrative) groups and permissions.  How I've come to this conclusion is because when you logon to a new user account for the first time and launch IE 11 it gives you the chance to Setup IE for the first time, disregard setting it up, or just cancel out altogether.  It doesn't appear to matter what I do as it disables the Zones and doesn't show the *.test.com site that I am pushing.  HOWEVER if I go to the Advanced Tab of Internet Settings and hit the Rest Internet Settings button and logoff/reboot and then log back on the site shows up properly and I am able to edit the various zones.

Why this is an issue is that we are developing a test environment that allows us to provision accounts to Active Directory and create workflows that send notifications to new users.  The new user receives their credentials (not via email) and logs on and is able to request other services and is granted these by workflow approvals from management.  The user should only need to launch IE and enter the URL (which we'll be pushing by GPO homepage setting) to get to the provisioning application and Single Sign-on (SSO) is enabled and functioning properly within the environment.  It is functioning to such a degree that a user should only need to use a PIV card and corresponding PIN number to logon to the workstation and then through SSO launch IE 11 (or Firefox or Chrome as we're agnostic) to get to the provision application.  Due to something within IE 11 we are unable to make this a truly seamless process for new users as we can't just say logoff and back on and it will work.

Final notes, this is a TEST/DEV environment and there is no fear of a "user" fouling up the works as the only ones with access to the site and user accounts are the development and support team (very small).  So please no comments regarding maintaining access vs security as this is not necessary at this part of the project (we've already got multiple levels of security and certificates in place, etc, etc).

I hope that I've explained everything clearly as possible and I'm hoping others have had a similar problem and that an easy resolution is available.  Once again, I can make things work, however this needs to be a seamless process going forward.  I've already read through numerous blogs on the issue and I know that others have/are experiencing problems like this.

Best regards

IE 11 Enterprise Mode? Can it fake IE 10 functionality instead of IE 8?

$

We have intranet sites that were designed for IE 10.  When IE 11 is used, these sites do not display properly and when IE 8 is used, some functions are not supported by IE 8.

So, everyone uses IE 10 to deal with it and it prevents us from using Windows 8.1 since Windows 8.1 is IE 11 only.  This prevents roll out of new devices that do not support Windows 7 (for IE 10).

There are various formatting problems with IE 11 on our intranet. Some sites display as if IE 11 is a mobile or WAP browser or other "lite" modes and other intranet sites have other issues making it unacceptable.

I have heard of IE 11 "Enterprise Mode," but what I read about it makes it appear as if it lets IE 11 work as if it is IE 8.

However, since IE 8 doesn't support everything we need and IE 11 doesn't work either, we must have the browser work specifically as IE 10 on these intranet sites.

Is there any way via Group Policy or Enterprise Mode to configure IE 11 to display specific URLs or domains as if the browser is IE 10?

IE11 Tabbed Browsing Doesn't Work and Favorites Bring Up New Window

I recently upgraded to IE11 and certain favorites, not all, will open a new window instead of just going to the website in the current and only window.  Also, when I open a new tab and type in a new address or click on a favorite, it will open it in a new window or delete the tab.  I have the settings in general>tabs at:

When a new tab is opened, open the new tab page.

When a pop-up is encountered: always open the pop-ups in a new tab.

Open links from other programs in: a new tab in the current window.

There does not appear to be a setting to tell it not to open a new window when I select a favorite or to give me more than one functional tab at a time.

Automatic proxy configuration via WPAD not working

$

Dear all,

I have a problem working with WPAD in Internet Explorer that shows like this:

- our test environment includes an ISA server that is used as proxy in a wpad.dat file
- wpad.dat is not located on the ISA server but on another server with IIS installed
- wpad.dat (or, in this case, proxy.pac) file works fine - I know this from placing its URL in the registry value
"AutoConfigURL" on a workstation and deleting existing values
  "ProxyServer" and "ProxyOverride"
- DNS entry for WPAD exists and points to the IP address of the server hosting wpad.dat

When I delete all existing registry values on a workstation that configure proxy settings (ProxyServer and ProxyOverride or AutoConfigURL) I cannot access the web, so I guess that wpad.dat is not found or the configured settings in it are not loaded. Browsing to http: // wpad / wpad.dat (without blanks) gives me the opportunity to download the file and if I do so I can see that it is the one I created.

What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Regards,

Klaus

Internet Explorer 11 is automaticall sending proxy cached credentials instead of using the basic auth popup

$

Having a lot of issues with the new explorer 11 but the most baffling is this:

Say a user has (against policy) checked the box on the basic auth box allowing IE to remember the password. In previous versions even though this is checked each time the proxy sends the 407 response the box would popup with the information entered. IE 11 is not doing this, it just responds to the 407 with the credentials that were saved and goes on. Now this is a REAL problem if a user with admin access has entered their info for one reason or another and missed the fact that the box was checked. And I can find no way to clear the cached credentials, deleting everything does not help nor no setting I can find including setting HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings DisablePasswordCaching = 1 (which never worked in Windows 7 but still popped up the auth box). The ONLY way I have found to clear the credentials is to have the user change their password so the password fails. As we are saddled with several large vendors requiring the use of IE I need to know how to fix this and keep it from ever happening again. It is the most unacceptable behavior I have ever seen from a company that specializes in unacceptable behavior in their software products

I have an HTML table built with Javascript. I can export it to Excel, but I cannot find any reference on how to manipulate the Excel cells that are created.

I want to merge cells, change the font size and change the background colour.

I imagine this must be documented somewhere, but I cannot find anything.

IE 11 open new tab opens new window, clicking open new tab opens black page in same tab

Hi I have a problem with IE11 on Windows 8.1 Desktop mode which is driving me crazy.

When i click on the open new tab button it will open in the same tab in the same window and you cant go to any website and the website on where on's address is still in the address bar.

Right click a link and select open new tab most of the time opens new window with long pause.

I have tried everything to fix this even re installing windows, but the problem persists after re install as i think its attaching itself to my Microsoft account.

I have disabled all add-ons run virus and walware scans reset IE to defaults removed and re-installed IE all to no avail!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello Experts!!!! Greeting.

I am facing one issue in IE11 Enterprise Mode via Sitelist xml file.

History : -

I created one sitelist with the help of Sitelist manager tool and placed it in My Documents folder, also set the respective registry key in the registry. I accessed one of the site (which is in Sitlist) and it opened in Enterprise Mode without issue.

Now If I change the sitelist xml file and create a new one, I updated the registry value accordingly but its not working.

Can anyone please help here?.

Internet Explorer Color Dialog box won't open

$

Hello All,

I follow these steps to choose website colors...

  1. Open Internet Explorer.

  2. Tap or click the Tools button, and then tap or click Internet options.

  3. Tap or click the General tab, and then, under Appearance, tap or clickColors.

  4. Clear the Use Windows colors check box.

  5. For each color that you want to change, click  the color box, select a new color, and then tap or clickOK.

  6. Tap or click OK, and then tap or click OK again.

Except I am stuck between 3 and 4. When I click the "Colors" button NOTHING opens. I have installed IE 8, 9, 10, and 11. Does the same thing for all of these versions. Is this a bug or registry key I need to edit?

I have reset the IE settings and restored the advanced settings. Also I will note this is happening for multiple profiles so I know it is not a corrupted user profile.

This is happening on multiple systems but not all systems. It has happened on multiple x64 and x86 installations. Therefore I don't think this is application issue as not all are experiencing this issue. I thought it might have been the software package I used to install it so I downloaded a fresh IE 10 installer and experienced the same thing. I don't know if there is some hidden registry file that has now been corrupted at some point but haven't been able to find any registry references except for those that "hide" the button.

This is on a Corporate Domain.

I can change and access the other Accessibility options just fine (languages, fonts etc).
