IE 11 Why is MS snooping?

$

A while back, I noticed that IE 11 has been doing some strange things. I've spent months watching, logging, sniffing.. and I'm quite confused.

I happen to be fortunate, and own a router that reports activity. I use an old program called WallWatcher, which monitors all of the router activity, including access, blocked incoming connections, allowed outgoing connections, etc. One day I happened to go out for a while and I left my system running.

Note, I am very anal about my computer. I do no automatic updates on anything, and strictly control all startup items and services. I do not subscribe to the customer experience program, and all entries in task scheduler for that part, have been disabled.

When I got back in, I noticed that an outgoing connection to 93.184.215.200 on port 443 had happened 10 minutes prior. I contacted the ISP for that service, and they confirmed that it is a part of the Microsoft system.

I have no add-ons enabled in IE, other than a single default Bing search engine. Search suggestions and top results are disabled.

IE is quite sneaky though. I can start the browser, my default page is blank. It will generally wait until this is some form of internet traffic, but not always. Today for example, I opened IE, did nothing, and within 30 seconds it tried to hit that IP noted above. I also use another program called Peer Block, and that IP is blocked. IE was so pissed that it couldn't connect to that IP, that it tried 5 times to connect. Normally it only tries once and then stops.

I've also had issues with multiple tries at boot time, for my system to go out to various crl.microsoft.com addresses. And to me, that's spying. I have those addresses blocked now as well. I can understand that MS wants to fight the piracy issue. But my license is legit and valid. There is no practical or logical reason for MS to hit the CRL servers every time I boot my system. That tells me they are trying to track me, and that doesn't make me a happy camper.

So, tell me, Microsoft... what is SO damn important that you need to hit your 93 address on port 443? Why do you go there, at mysterious times even when IE is not running? Why do you go there when IE loads? And more importantly, just exactly WHAT information is being sent on a secure port?

Just to note, I have done multiple virus and malware scans, using various programs and the latest definitions. This has been ongoing for months, so if it was some form of virus style activity, someone would have caught it and fixed it.

Just sayin...

Windows 7 64 Bit - IE 11 stand-alone fails installation - virus from IE 8 prevents IE repair (install) while Google Chrome works perfect

IE 8 got a virus that prevented Windows Updater from working. A tool finally disabled IE. Another tool repaired Windows Update. After fixes, Dozens and dozens of updates to Windows 7, Office 2010, Windows Defender brought the system back up to current standards.Exception: IE won't work.

C:\Windows\Programs\IE  - all of these files are 2008, 2009 and security (even in safe mode) can not change or delete them. However, if IE is launched from here, it is IE 8.

Windows Update - skips IE - every thing else works. File Association for HTTP only shows Google - IE is not an option.

Windows Add/Remove does not show IE.

Downloaded the IE 11 Stand-Alone - run as Administrator. It pretends to install, then at very end displays that IE did not install due to lack of file association,. However, no files in C:\Windows\Programs\IE were updated at all.

Everything else is working fine except for IE (any version).

Stand Alone Install as Admin will not work on Safe Mode either.

I have spent over a dozen hours searching and running every Microsoft diagnostic. No errors reported.

Have tried all the obvious -Disable Add-Ons, Reset Internet Explorer Settings, Change advanced setting to 'use software rendering instead of GPU rendering.'

I have run SFC /scannow, that came back with no issues....

Does any one have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Thanks

Webpage Does Not Display

Hello,

I update a website for a lab I work for on campus at UCI. I use Dreamweaver CS6 to design the webpages. After I make changes to the webpage and transfer the files through WinSCP, I open the website on IE 11 and the changed webpages are not viewable (the html code is displayed) unless I go into tools and select compatibility mode. I don't have this problem on any other web browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) nor older versions of IE. I am assuming that this is just a compatibility issue with IE 11; and I'm wondering if there is a way to remedy this. Thank you.

some applications don't work when IE11 uses automatic proxy script

$

Hello!

We are using automatic proxy scripts and since change from WinXP IE8 and/or Win7 IE10 to Win7 IE11 we are facing problems with some applications. It seems this applications (smart card readers) use the system-proxy settings (IE11) for connecting, but also some programs (bloomberg, ReutersEIKON) are affected.

If I change the network settings to use hard proxy it works perfectly. Has there been some changes in this way (similar to the disabling of the local file pac support)? Proxy-Settings get via GPO into registry.

Thanks in advance

IE 11 Enterprise Mode on Remote Desktop Server

Hi,

I've enabled IE11 Enterprise Mode and setup an XML-file on a fileshare which I've created using "Enterprise Mode Site List manager".

When I logon with my test-user and launc IE, after aprox 65 seconds I get the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\internet explorer\Main\EnterPriseMode\ CurrentVersion string updated to the current version of my XML-file. I can then browse the sites and verify that Enterprise Mode is enabled for the sites that I have specified in my XML-file

The problems I'm facing is that if I logout my user and then log back on again to the server and start IE and brwose the sites Enterprise Mode is no longer enabled for them. Also if my user has manually specified some sites for enterprise mode this does not live between sessions.

Where in the profile does IE EM store the data over which websites that are supposed to be in entprise mode? I've found under AppData\Local\ EmieSiteList and EmieUserList but theese 2 catalogs only contains "container.dat" which is 0 KB?

Anyone know? Has anyone gotten IE EM to work in RDS?

Regards

Jonas

IE 11 - Open in new Tab Not Working

When I click on a link that should open in a new tab (or right-click and select Open in new Tab), IE11 Opens a new tab but the screen is blank, the URL is about:blank and the tab title is 'Blank Page'.

Windows 8.1 x64
Internet Explorer 11 (Desktop)

The 'Metro' version of IE 11 still works fine, it's just the Desktop version which is broken.

I've tried all the fixes listed in the similar thread, but none have helped.

IE 9 Compatibility View Settings - remove entry set by GPP

We were testing a Group policy preference to add the binary registry key for [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\BrowserEmulation\ClearableListData] UserFilter, which successfully added the entries we wanted to the IE 9 Compatibility View list.  However, we determined we did not want to use one of the URLs in compatibility view as it was breaking something else. When overwriting the same UserFilter registry key with the binary data for just one URL, it did not remove the latest entry that we don't want to use.

Is there any way to automatically remove that entry without having a user manually delete the url from the Compatibility View Settings list from the tools menu in IE 9?  I have seen many ways to add to the list, but nothing relating to removing the entry automatically.  Our environment is Windows 7 SP1 x64 with IE 9; 2008 AD domain.  Thanks for your help!

Odd font rendering in IE 8 after update

$

I'm wondering if Tuesday night's IE security update KB3021952 might have messed the way IE displays text on websites.

When I log into our web-based E-Mail client, SmarterMail, the font looks smaller than usual, and is harder to read. Even making it large. Some letters seem randomly bold, and the letters are all slightly distorted.

This is on Windows Server 2008 64-bit Standard, SP2 and Internet Explorer 8.

I am not seeing the issue in IE11. I am also not seeing it in IE10, or in IE10 with browser mode set to IE8.

Zoom and font settings have not changed.

I get the same effect on major websites such as Google.

IE 11, "unable to decode image at url" error

400 Error only in IE

$
0
0

I have an machine where IE 9 is receiving a 400 error (header too long) whereas Chrome does not (or other machines with IE9).  I'll try to explain this as best as I can.

The target site requires domain credentials. If this site is accessed via the Internet (https://ourSite.com), it's necessary to enter credentials.  However, we have a redirect where if we use a different URL (http://redirectToOurSite.domain.com), and attempt to access internally (i.e., over the company WAN), it will pass Windows cached credentials, then it will redirect to the main site, seamlessly, with no user input to log in required.

The problem for one person is when trying to access the internal site to be redirected to the main site she gets a 400 error.  I used Fiddler to try and find the discrepnecy  and I can see that the header for her request, specifically the authorization string, is considerably larger compared to mine (mine is 1KB and hers is 16KB, copied and saved in Notepad), in addition the caching column shows mine as private while hers shows nothing. Also, Fiddler reports that she is passing cookie information (whereas mine does not) and it references a site that as far as I know has nothing to do with the intended site.  Her cookie data always shows "=First%20Visit

Cookie: s_nr=1423233837668; s_prop23=First%20Visit; __utma=113909208.1750431566.1423232734.1423602702.1423604647.9; __utmz=113909208.1423517012.4.2.utmcsr=intern-www.ourdomain.com|utmccn=Inter%20website%20click|utmcmd=referal

On a successful redirect, from my PC, I land on a plain HTML page with a 302 result (which has a simple link to the main site which appears to contain my user info), and will auto re-direct to the main site, whereas hers doesn't make it past the initial request and resulting 400 error.

I've gone through and cleared cached credentials from the Credential Vault and checked the two credential folders under her user profile (local and roaming), have cleared all temp files, cookies, reset IE, removed IE (from the Windows features, just unchecked and rechecked), and she still sends a larger header when making the request.  It also does it on another site that uses her credentials, so I assum it happens on any site that has a redirect (which, I also assume is DNS redirect, but not sure).  It used to work on her computer.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

*Edit
I found that hers is using Kerberose where mine uses NTLM... verified she is using Windows Integrated Authentication and have reset IE advance settings multiple times.

IE 10 Creates Large .PS File

$

0

When I display and then print a large .html file using IE 10 and the adobe generic postscript driver, creating  a .ps file, the file size is more than 6 times larger than the same operation using IE 8.  When converting this file to .pdf using Adobe Distiller, the resulting .pdf file is 8 times larger for IE 10 as compared to IE 8.

This larger .pdf file size is unusable by the manufactuing department of my company.

One difference I have found in the .ps files, is the use of  Type 42 fonts (for TrueType fonts) - IE 8 apparently does not use Type 42 fonts and IE 10 does, leading to larger .ps and .pdf file sizes.  I have tried changing the entry in the printer's .PPD file to not use Type 42 fonts:

*TTRasterizer: None

This reduces the size of the .ps and .pdf file sizes, but they are still 4 times larger than when using IE 8.  I have also tried changing the Document Mode (via the .html "<meta http-equiv="x-ua-compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE8">") and the F12 tool as well as changing the Browser Mode, but these have very little effect on the file sizes.

The question is: How can I make IE 10 create printer files of a similar size as IE 8 when printing?

In procmon when i open this file i find only (iexplorer.exe -- creat file -- temporary folder - delete pending)

Firewall off, protected mode off, security level - lowest, antivirus - off.
