IE11 will not cache wpad.dat

0
0
We have a successful implementation of a wpad.dat file using DNS autolookup.  Previous versions of IE have never had a problem (and still don't) using this file. What appears to be happening is that installs of IE11 are still using the wpad.dat file, but the clients are not downloading the file to their cache, they are using it across the WAN (located off site).  This is not acceptable to us and I need the clients to cache the wpad.dat.  I have tried for days to figure this out, can somebody shed some light on this for me?

IE11 downloading files .bat .exe .cmd become _bat _exe _cmd

Good day!

Update IE from 8 to 11 version. Users begin to complain for a bug - after several times, files in IE 11 begin open with another extension (for example, when they try to open file cons.bat IE11 offer cons_bat). It's happen with every executable files (bat, exe, cmd...)

In procmon when i open this file i find only (iexplorer.exe -- creat file -- temporary folder - delete pending)

Firewall off, protected mode off, security level - lowest, antivirus - off.

Enterprise Mode for IE11 stops working on client

My company is currently deploying IE11 and using a GPO to enable Enterprise Mode. Starting in December, we started having issues where client machines will not have Enterprise Mode working in IE11. I had discovered that machines need to have KB's 3008923 and 3003057 installed, but I have recently seen 3021952 being needed. I have also had machines that had all 3 patches yet Enterprise Mode was still not working. I have been searching around, but cannot find a root cause for this. Any help is appreciated.

IE 11 won't install (Error 9C47 and 9C57)

When i searched the posts, this problem seems to be a never ending story.

We have one PC in our network where we cannot install IE11. The PC is running Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit (German language). IE9 was successfully installed via WSUS in the past. The installation of IE11 via WSUS failed. We did not bother about that for some time but now we need IE11 on this machine.

In the log there is on significant error:

00:08.471: INFO:    KB2729094 could not be download is not installed.

After that the installation stops.

According to the troubleshooting guide https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2872074/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0 we tried a manual installation of the prerequisites. The named KB2729094 was successfully installed but the installation states the same error.

All other prerequisites could not be manually installed because the installer sayd that the update does not fit our System but the versions we downloaded were the correct 64-Bit versions.

We tried an installation with an ie11 installation package we downloaded from microsoft. When we did this, we got other errors in the log file:

00:25.834: INFO:    Waiting for 9 prerequisite downloads.
00:27.581: INFO:    Prerequisite download processes have completed. Starting Installation of 9 prerequisites.

01:08.172: INFO:    Setup exit code: 0x00009C57 (40023) - Prerequisites failed to install.

Interesting enough is that the Update KB2729094 that was mentioned above was not downloaded as prerequisite because it was alreade installed.

We got stuck here. Any suggestions beyond the troubleshooting guide?

Thanks in advance

Michael

IE 9 Compatibility View Settings - remove entry set by GPP

0
0

We were testing a Group policy preference to add the binary registry key for [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\BrowserEmulation\ClearableListData] UserFilter, which successfully added the entries we wanted to the IE 9 Compatibility View list.  However, we determined we did not want to use one of the URLs in compatibility view as it was breaking something else. When overwriting the same UserFilter registry key with the binary data for just one URL, it did not remove the latest entry that we don't want to use.

Is there any way to automatically remove that entry without having a user manually delete the url from the Compatibility View Settings list from the tools menu in IE 9?  I have seen many ways to add to the list, but nothing relating to removing the entry automatically.  Our environment is Windows 7 SP1 x64 with IE 9; 2008 AD domain.  Thanks for your help!

Webpage Does Not Display

Hello,

I update a website for a lab I work for on campus at UCI. I use Dreamweaver CS6 to design the webpages. After I make changes to the webpage and transfer the files through WinSCP, I open the website on IE 11 and the changed webpages are not viewable (the html code is displayed) unless I go into tools and select compatibility mode. I don't have this problem on any other web browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) nor older versions of IE. I am assuming that this is just a compatibility issue with IE 11; and I'm wondering if there is a way to remedy this. Thank you.

Error - "This Browser does not support geolocation services"

Our company recently upgraded the browser to 11. I use a website that can grab the Latitude and Longitude and plug it into a website. Now when I click it I get "This Browser does not support geolocation services". Well, when I go to "Compatibility View Settings" and remove the site from there, the location stuff works fine. But, other functions of the site do not work. Ideas?

I am on the browser: 11.0.9600.17633

Mark of the Web and Explorer stupidity

So, we are working on a very clever little program that acts as a browser independent bookmark util, and strips Google's tracking data.  It's not a screen scraper.  It's a bookmark utility.

It can also download images to local files.

As a browser independent util, bookmarks are written to html pages.  We want an OnClick open in new window aspect.  This is to reduce the number of opened browser pages\tabs and also to allow an easily returnable window handle to the Window that we open for the bookmarks.

Works great with FF and Chrome and older IE.  Newer IE on Win Vista 8.x does not open in new window.  Opens links in tabs which (as we all know do not adhere to Microsft's Windows Hierachy Rules) so we can't use the db app to find the originating Window, and therefore have to open a new one on the next Open Bookmarks call.  hwnd values do not work with tabbed browsers, so don't suggest that.  Neither does inspecting every running process for the process thread and backtracking, so again, no lame ass responses, please.

If we add the poorly documented Mark of the Web tag to the page, then yes, we can open pages or images on the web in a new window.  BUT, not locally stored files even with fully formed paths.

This is ridiculous.

In other words, an image on a site that may be compromised is now 'secure' using MotW, but a local file is not?

What moron at Microsoft thought this made sense?  How the hell do you justify locking down a local file but leaving a web based one exposed?  MSIE's security protocols get more ridiculous with every new wet behind the ears hire kid that you bring on board.  You guys apparently are big on rules that have zero real world application value.

Explain, please, (without the bullshit icacls Dos cmd run as admin), how a user is allowed to link to file on their own computer's hard drive, which I may add, they paid for - you did not - especially when we have, on download, checked the correct file sig, to make sure it is valid.

As it stands, we are thinking that we should just give up on fixing IE's constant issues and just advise users to install FF.

I await answers that are competent.

Internet Explorer 10 or 11 won't open

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and when I updated to Internet Explorer 11 when I click on the icon all I get is the swirl for 2 seconds and then nothing.  I removed IE 11 and reverted to IE 10 and the same thing happens.  Google Chrome is working fine. Any suggestions? I have tried it without the add-ons and get the same result.  Nothing else has changed.

IE 11 "has stopped working" immediately upon start

I have attempted to reset IE with no success. There have been no new software installed/downloaded except Microsoft updates. I attempted a restored point roll back but that had no affect and the problem continues. I also shut down Norton anti-virus with no change. I am running Windows 8.1 and everything was working fine the last time the computer was running. Any suggestions?

Dear All,

We have an issue with our Finacle application from Infosys where the drop down on Java front end screens are not working on some computers which have the same Microsoft windows and Java versions. The setting of Java and Internet Explorer are same along with the windows o\s which we apply though core load. We observe that in some the drop down is working while in some there are disabled.

Please help in resolving this issue. Ready to provide more details on request.

Regards

Michael

IE will not start

Internet Explorer 11 has stopped working entirely after a scenario that probably hasn't been tested:

Running the scratch.mit.edu editor (without wifi access), I shut the lid of the Windows 8.1.1 (sleep). When I turned the computer back on (with wifi access), the Flash debugger complained of a script running for longer than 10 seconds. Once I'd closed this, IE said the page had stopped responding, and 2 werfaults opened. I used task manager to end the processes as IE has not yet appeared to crash (still being responsive) and I thought it was an error (which has happened before). However, the werfaults kept opening until there were about eight of them, so I used Powershell as Administrator to close them. Every time this was done, they all closed, but two opened again after a few seconds. Eventually I just used the powershell commandstop-process -name iexplore to kill IE, but now it won't start, even after a system reboot (bypassing hybrid sleep). It rarely even renders the window! Just werfaults.

I can't find a crash log, but I do have VS2013 to debug it.

Please help; I don't want to have to reinstall IE!

It is not my fault if your computer combusts. If this helped, press the /\ arrow over ↖there.

IE8 drag and drop in Outlook Web App OWA is not working

0
0

I'm having trouble identifying the cause behind an inability to drag and drop emails between folders in OWA (Exchange 2010).

The problem PC is running fully up to date 32 bit Windows XP SP3 with IE8. When I try to drag and drop an email all I see is a black stop symbol. On another PC with the same spec, logged in with the same user account, I can drag and drop emails fine between folders in OWA.

I've tried clearing browser cache/history etc, resetting the browser to factory defaults, re-installing the browser, reducing security in the browser to absolute minimum, re-installing Java, Silverlight, S/MIME (although I'm sure it doesn't use these).

Can anyone suggest anything else, or provide helpful links? I've been looking at this for many hours without any progress. If I even just knew what component/tool/feature IE is using when it does/doesn't drag and drop I'd have somewhere to start...

TIA.
