IE Encoding problems?

$

0

This is a problem that has been occurring across quite a few machines in our environment. While the environment is new to me (~ 2 months), this problem has been occurring on my machine since I started and apparently for other users before that.

The problem appears to be IE (and Chrome) misinterpreting certain special characters in certain parts of pages. ESPN . go . com is the best example.

Left square brackets ( [)are shown instead of right angle quotes (kind of like this >>). One thing I have noticed is this only happens on part of the page! I will upload an image when they approve my account.

The other thing that is happening is seemingly random @ symbols. These are occurring in some frames where is supposed to just be a line break ( ). Again, this innocent line break is working properly in other parts of the page.

Anyways, I have tried a few of the more obvious things to resolve, auto-detecting Encoding, using UTF-8, etc. I have also tried resetting all IE settings to default.

The only thing that seems to resolve it is under accessibility: "Ignore font styles specified on webpages". This of course also makes websites look off in a different way since text doesn't line up as intended.

Any thoughts?

I am getting a console error message 'failure to load' while clicked on any hyperlink or submit button. This is only occurring inIE11 browser. why is it happening

please find the attached screenshots from below url.

http://screencast.com/t/BoUad8Vy

This is occurring in most of the websites and also you can observe the same error in "http://msdn.microsoft.com/ie" and you can observe it inIE11 browser only. please check the attached screenshot. ( http://screencast.com/t/jBez3nNpbfF )

I also developed a MVC .Net application and getting the same console exception While clicking any submit button or hyperlink and itsonly showing in IE11 browser console.

Can you let me know why this is happening? Is it going to affect the rendering or the page load speed?

Kiosk mode still shows taskbar in foreground

hello, I have a shortcut that launches IE10 in Kiosk mode. it is pinned to the taskbar and/or a shortcut on desktop. When I start it from an icon, it opens in the foreground and covers the taskbar.

however when starting from startup folder upon an auto-logon, it opens behind the taskbar. I would like to have it open the same as when I double click the shortcut in front of the taskbar. I would prefer not to do this by auto-hiding taskbar (for some other reasons).

Latest Security Updates cause Data Execution Protection errors

Since the latest Windows updates I have been inundated with Data Execution Protection errors in IE 11. I have tired the troubleshoot of tuning off add-ons but the error continues. I only have Norton 360 toolbar as an add on anyway.

I can't isolate the problem - any suggestions?

As a side issue I also can't launch Google Chrome - it crashes on launch from a new installation.

I am running Windows 8.1 on a Lenovo X1 carbon laptop.

IE11 Failed Installation

I have a problem of failed IE11 installation.  I have Windows 7 SP1 64-bit, with IE v9.0.8112.16421 currently installed.  Many times I have tried to update to IE11 via Windows Update, and via directly running downloaded online and offline installers.  It seems I have all the pre-requisites in place: support.microsoft.com/kb/2872074, technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn321440.aspx and support.microsoft.com/kb/2847882 (all mandatory patches except for KB2533623 - but this one reports message: this update is not applicable to your computer).

I have done many Internet searches, and found many examples of similiar problems from other users, but no resolution.  Can anyone assist with finding the problem so that update to IE11 is possible?

Here is the log from C:\Windows\IE11_main.log:

Migrated Users from old domain to new domain are getting HTTP 400 Bad Request for Intranet site

$

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help.  As the title states users are getting an http 400 bad request error message when visiting an intranet page.  This is only happening for a few users, and started happening after they were migrated.  We are using SID history for access to resources.    Here's what i've tried so far.

  1. Enable old account, site works w/ no issues
  2. Duplicate new account to use that as a test, and start removing security groups from new test account.  Eventually the AD account was able to access the account after i removed enough groups.  This is not really a feasible solution at this time since we still have both domains up and running.

    This tells me I'm looking at a token size issues.

  3. I installed Fiddler on the workstation to captures some information.  With Fiddler running the user is able to access the site w/ no issues.  I'm assuming there is no useable information in Fiddler then since it couldn't catch any errors.  My experience w/ fiddler is limited so if you have any suggestions feel free to give them.
  4. I started looking at this URL which is a fairly decent write up
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/surama/archive/2009/04/06/kerberos-authentication-problem-with-active-directory.aspx
  5. On the webserver
    MaxRequestBytes was already set to 65534
    MaxFieldLenghth was already set to 65534.  I increased this to the max for testing 16777216 and restarted IIS
  6. MaxTokenSize on the workstation and Webserver by default is set to 48000.  For testing I set it to 65534 and rebooted both.
  7. Here is a screenshot of the tokensz utility, after I removed the maxtokensize reg key

  8. Ran the ntdsutil and queried the number of groups the user is in.  So effectively if i understand this, the user is in 242 groups because of SID history.

WebServer is Windows 2000. w/ IIS 5
Workstations are Windows 7 x86

Hopefully someone has some ideas, any and all are welcome.  Thanks in advance.

Registry key for default browser

Hello all,

I have Win 7 with IE 10 installed. When I set FF or Chrome to be my default browser I find that it updates the value of \\HKCR\.htm, \\HKCR\.html and \\HKCR\http keys in the registry. However when I set IE to be my default browser (either using IE -> Internet Options or Control Panel -> Default Programs) these values are not updated. However Windows is still able to determine that .htm files are to be opened with IE. How does Windows determine that? It must be referring to some registry key. Which one is that?

Please note that I am not asking how to make IE the default browser. I know how to do that. I just want to know how Windows knows that IE is the default browser. There are quite a few posts out there which have an answer but unfortunately none of the answers I found was correct - All answers mention that the \\HKCR\http key is updated which doesn't actually happen.

Thanks and regards,

Pradyumna

I have the same version of IE version 11.  The same version of powershell version 3.0.

I am currently trying to save an XML data using "SaveAs" execCommand  from Javascript in Internet Explorer 8 only.I am using document.write(xml) to write the xml content after i open a window.The document object in IE8 uses a saveAs Exec Command to allow the user to save the xml file in the local folder.The XML file is generated but it doesnt set the encoding to my preferred type  for a different interface where i need to send this XML which is ANSI/UTF-8.I can only save the XML in UCS2 little Endian format.Below is the code i am using.

     var location = "D:\\export_to_MCT"+dateTime+".xml";

        var xml = tmpSelectedConfigurationXML.transformNode(xslDoc);// XML Is generated here
       alert(xml);
         **var testlink = window.open  ("about:blank","_blank","toolbar=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,left=10000, top=10000, width=10, height=10, visible=none");
         testlink.document.write(xml); //fileData has contents for the file
    testlink.document.close();
    testlink.document.execCommand('SaveAs', false, location);**
    testlink.close();

My purpose is to save the xml  in ANSI/UTF-8 without BOM format.I cant use Scripting.FileSystemObject method of ActiveX object.Please suggest

Activate Enterprise Mode for all pages of a webapplication

We have a server hosting several webapplications. Some of the webapplications need Enterprise mode to run correctly. So I created a sitelist and configured the webserver to run in "Default mode" and the webapplication paths to run in Enterprise mode. The problem is that the webapplications contain several aspx files which are running in Default mode using the sitelist described.

Is there a possibility to run the whole webapplication in Enterprise mode or do I really have to add every single aspx file to the sitelist.xml?

Deprecation of SHA-1 Hashing Algorithm

regarding the SHA1 deprecation policy Micrososft Security Advisory 2880823

I operate a private CA in a large organization with thousands of web based applicationi and hudreds of Mirosoft server components and tens of thousands of client computers.  If I want all my stuff to work after January 1, 2017 I need to:

1) Migrate all my end-entity certificates (website host certificates) to SHA2.

2) Convert my private root CA and intermediate CA certificates (certificate chain, chaining certificates) to SHA2.

3) Ensure the updated certificate chain (SHA2 hashed signature) is pushed to all server and client computers via GPO, etc.

Is this correct?  There has been some indication by other security "experts" that indicate the policy does not affect private CA's  I understand that MS via it's Root Certificate Program will only let new keys into the Browser (certificate store) that are SHA2.  But if I manually configure a SHA1 signed certificate in the certificate store or push out a SHA1 certificate in group policy, will it still work?  Will something else in Windows components stop SHA1 from working?  Or just that the default Roots and Intermediates shipped with the browser will only be SHA2?

Issues with Microsoft E-learning site.

Forgive me if this has appeared twice as I posted yesterday but can't find it.

In our company we have access to the Microsoft Online E-learning site https://onlinelearning.microsoft.com. When the site is accessed all the courses appear but the silver light videos don't display. The time length shows in the bottom left hand side but after a few seconds it resets back to 0:00.

We are running Windows 7 enterprise  IE8 (currently upgrading to 11 but issue also is in this version of the browser as well) and silverlight version 5.1.30514.0. I have been able to get it to run on a couple of machines by running another browser first but with 6500 assets in our enterprise that wouldn't be a lot of fun :) and to be honest i'm not sure made it work setting wise.

I suspect it is something to do with DRM as if I go to the site http://web.sldrm.video.msn.com/d1/sldrm.html the video doesn't run until I turn DRM off.

I added the key in the registry to enable DRM just in case still with no luck. I just find it strange that machines with the same windows image in the same OU logging in with the same account having differing results. I am sure it is a setting but what I'm not sure.

Thanks for reading

Paul
