Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

$

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.

On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.

When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.

Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.

In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.

It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.

Has anyone come across this issue?

Access Forbidden Error

Hi. I have a blog on Blogger Amazon Top 10 Bestsellers and in one of the widgets I inserted an OnTopList badge.

Now when I load the page the badge doesn't load the image and when I click on the link it opens a new tab but instead loading a target page it gives me:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

This only happens on my computer, when I tested the page fromanother location the badge loaded fine and the connection to the OnTopList worked flawlessly. I even tested it with Firefox on my computer and it also works.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help

IE10 won't work in desktop mode

So I'm using an HP laptop. OS is Windows 8. I use Internet Explorer 10, and the IE app on the Windows 8 home screen works. But when using desktop mode, IE doesn't work. When I click on the IE tab, a window comes up but it never loads. I tried a couple of things like restarting my computer, clicking out and back into IE, disabling add-ons, using the troubleshooter to detect problems in IE performance (no issues detected), and nothing worked. So I've been using the Windows 8 app version of IE, but I prefer to just use it through desktop mode. Does anyone have any idea of what is wrong and how to resolve the issue?

Thanks in advance.

IE 11 Stuck on KB3008923

HELP!

The KB3008923 (Q3008923) was installed on my machine. We applied KB3025945 and it fixed the problems caused by the first BUT it broke a second application. I need to remove both. I have removed both but let me explain further.

Windows 7 is reporting (or not reporting) that the patches have been removed. However...Internet Explorer - HELP - ABOUT IE...is showing that KB3008923 is still the current level of IE.

Are there still fragments of that bad patch on my machine. If so...how do I completely scrub my machine(s) free of it.

Thanks for all your replies....

In Private Browsing

Hello,

I am just noticing something. Hope someone can clear me. I have just installed a Windows 8.1 as a VM. On workgroup, I can see the in-private browsing option. But once I joined to my domain, that option disappeared. I went to my GPO on my DC to see whether the Turn off In-private browsing has been enabled but it is not.

Any idea what could cause this?

Thanks,

Ashley

How do I stop IE 11 from renaming downloads

$

IE 11 renames files. For instance, .exe files become _exe, .zip become _zip. This is happening on Win 7 Ultimate-64-bit, Win 7 Pro 64-bit, and Win 8.1 Update.

This interferes with my ability to get updates to my Visual Studio and many other programming tools.

IE 11 won't even support the Akami system used by MS.

As far as I know all the security settings are set to allow downloads. Windows Firewall is configured to tell me when it blocks a program.

I read an earlier blog post from the IE Team that says this problem is due to some sites being creative!?!

The latest Firefox has no issues downloading.

Receiving an ajax error when using GoDaddy Plesk website

Hello,

I had to recently replace my development PC.  I don't recall right now if I had upgraded the previous machine to Win 8.1 yet, it originally had Win 8.  I also don't recall which version of IE I was using on the previous PC.  This is only relevant because the problem I will describe here was NOT present before upgrading to the new PC.

The PC with the problem is a premium Dell workstation running Win 8.1 and IE11.  I am not getting this error on any other website I visit.

I am getting the following error intermittently when using the GoDaddy site:

The debugger shows the following:

So as is always the case with the non-Microsoft crowd, they will point out the voluminous number of internet posts about problems with any variety of IE versions.  But I figure I should simply ask what's going on here and perhaps I can forward back to GoDaddy the real issue.

Do I need to have some special feature turned on or off in IE Options > Advanced?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Alan

Unable to uninstall IE10

Hi All,

We have a client who runs Server 2012(non R2) and it looks like at some point the have tried to remove IE10 from the server. I can only assume it didn't go well as it is still there in C:\Program Files but we can not run it. When we double click on it the program doesn't open and no process is running. When we try to install IE10 again it gives an error reporting that a newer version is installed (We are using 10.0.9200.16521 installer). We have tried removing IE10 by using the following command in an elevated command prompt.

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

and rebooting after the fact but it still does not work. We do get an error Operation failed with 0x80070005 Access is denied.

When we run it with the quiet switch we don't get the error but even after the reboot it still is not removed.

Any advice would be great thanks.

The KB link shown in the Windows Update page for my Windows 7 x64 Enterprise machine does not find a page for that KB article. What exactly are we patching? What is it supposed to fix?

Sockets Problem

When I try to register with a particular web site to set up an ID and password for the secure part, I keep getting the message  "could not open socket" after completing the requested info and clicking on "Register". This only happens with this one particular site. I have no problems accessing other secure websites like my accounts on various financial websites. This happens with both of my computers. What is the problem here?

ie10 32bit and 64bit version and processes mix

$

few days ago I asked about download links for official (MS) IE 10 here on forum.

It was provided:

IE10 (x86): http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/A/C/8AC7C482-BC74-492E-B978-7ED04900CEDE/IE10-Windows6.1-x86-en-us.exe

IE10 (x64): http://download.microsoft.com/download/C/E/0/CE0AB8AE-E6B7-43F7-9290-F8EB0EA54FB5/IE10-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe

Computers that I am installing IE10 are running 64bit Windows 7 Full and Embedded. The description below is exact for both types of OS.

1. x86 version from the link above doesn't run on 64 (the message: not compatible with OS you are running)

2. x64 installs fine.

Some confusions:

a) in about of IE no BITs shown which may mean 32 bit browser running. This is not a problem I saw that About is not a "reliable" place for the info.

b) in all programs only one IE icon appears and there are no 64bit in icon name (usually 2 IE icons appear, one for x64).

c) when right click on a IE icon in all programs the path is c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\... that indicated 64bit IE.

But in Windows Explorer there are no Program Files folder and only c:\Program Filed (x86) in which Internet Explorer resides.

d) and last: in task manager Processes when start IE 2 processes appear: iexplore.exe and iexplore.exe *32

Looks like I got some "hybrid" of IE. And 32 bit version is not there

I don't really mind about it as soon as it will not create any problem.

As I know 64 should perform better but could have incompatibility with 32 bit plugins (I have to check with our apps suppliers).

Could somebody clarify or confirm that what I am experiencing is normal?

And also 64 bit IE vs 32 bit pros/cons.

Thx.

How to make 32-bit-only add-ons work with Windows 7, Internet Explorer 11 and Enhanced Protected Mode enabled?

Hi everybody,

in IE10 I had the chance to use 32-bit-tabs even with EPM. In IE11 my 32-bit add-ons are all marked as "incompatible".

Do you have any suggestions?

MSXML Parser 4,5,6 no Add-ons?

$

We've been using the same job to install MSXML 4 SP3 for years now and have no issues with it working correctly.  4.0 SP3 still installed without error, shows up in programs and features, but the add-on no longer shows up in IE11.  Thus, our application doesn't work.

I tried manually install 4, 5, and 6 but none of them will show up in IE11.  I'm wondering if the more recent Windows updates broken their own add-on.  We've been fretting about crypto locker recently so we pushed all the IE updates would could get to try and stop the exploits.  Nothing has been done outside of official MS updates.

Oddly enough, our Windows 8.1 laptops seem to still install it OK.

Release to windows update for kb3025945 (to fix IE9 problems after ms14-080 kb3008923)?

$

Hello

We had so many IE9 issues with it we removed ms14-080 kb3008923 (via WSUS), and decided to wait for a fix.

I noticed this which sounds promising:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/askie/archive/2015/01/13/update-3025945-now-available-for-the-ie9-crashing-scenario-after-ms14-080-is-installed-from-some-applications.aspx

Unfortunately only a manual update though.

Does anyone know if it is planned to publish it through the windows update/WSUS channel and if so what sort of time scale?

Need to decide whether to push it via SCCM or wait for a "proper" release...

Cheers.

Andy

What is the garbage in History -> Computer in IE11?

$

When I start IE v11 then go to history then click on Computer,  random characters are shown.  If I move the mouse over each one, the path points to something like  \appdata\local\temp.  Yet the icons don't really do anything when you click on them.

Can someone help me understand this?  I need to make sure IE isn't improperly logging URLs.
