Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration Problems

0
0

Alright so let me start by saying that I've looked high and low and tried all other fixes I've been able to find on TechNet and elsewhere and this problem still occurs. We have two Terminal Servers, one having the problem and one not having the problem. I cannot find any differences on them so I am here hoping someone else may have some answers. The core problem is that we have some Group Policy IE settings that will not apply to a user until they reset IE. After that they never have another problem with it. So, the server is Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1 and we are using IE8 because of the some special medical software that requires it.  IE ESC is turned off for both Standard and Administrative users on the server.  I have tried turning it back on and then off and logging in with a brand new user; I tried turning it on, rebooting then turning it off, rebooting again and then logging in with another brand new user.  I know that turning ESC on or off changes a registry key also, and I did verify that it is off per that registry key.

When a new user logs in and tries to access any webpage from Google to a site that is in the Trusted Sites list, they get the popup that says, "Content from the website listed below is being blocked by the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration" and then they're given the choice to check the box not to continue notifying them.  While that does not continue notifying them, nothing we have set in Group Policy for IE - Trusted Sites, Trusted Sites Settings, Popup Blocker Settings - is set accordingly until IE is reset.  I have tried using IE 32-bit, IE 64-bit and IE No Addons.

Again, we have two Terminal Servers that are set up seemingly identical but we're having this problem in one.  Any help would be most appreciated.

Release to windows update for kb3025945 (to fix IE9 problems after ms14-080 kb3008923)?

0
0

Hello

We had so many IE9 issues with it we removed ms14-080 kb3008923 (via WSUS), and decided to wait for a fix.

I noticed this which sounds promising:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/askie/archive/2015/01/13/update-3025945-now-available-for-the-ie9-crashing-scenario-after-ms14-080-is-installed-from-some-applications.aspx

Unfortunately only a manual update though.

Does anyone know if it is planned to publish it through the windows update/WSUS channel and if so what sort of time scale?

Need to decide whether to push it via SCCM or wait for a "proper" release...

Cheers.

PAC File Load issue with Microsoft IE

0
0

We are using .pac files for our proxies and when we make a change to the .pac file  users who use IE receive the new version of the .pac file but, the change that was made does not work its as if the old version of the .pac file is still there. After clearing cache and doing ctrl+f5's or a reboot, the user finally can access the change what was made to the pac file.

Also, other browsers like Chrome and Firefox work fine with the updated .pac file no issues with clearing cache etc...

Any suggestions on what I can check for or do to help this issue?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi All,

We are using Autoproxy script allow users go through proxy server to go internet or intranet sites. This issue obviously related to user's profile or IE settings issue because temporary to fix the only thing is restore user's profile folder to the state before issue occur but we don't know what exactly is.

By using tools to verify, we found out for those website failed to access proxy return the error code below:

InternetInitializeAutoProxyDll Return: 1

ResolvHostByName called with lpszHostName: www.example.com

ResolvHostByName returning Error_Internet_Name_Not_Resolved

ResolvHostByName called with lpszHostName: 0ResolvHostByName returning Error_Internet_Name_Not_Resolved ResolvHostByName called with lpszHostName: 0ResolvHostByName returning Error_Internet_Name_Not_Resolved ResolvHostByName called with lpszHostName: 0ResolvHostByName returning Error_Internet_Name_Not_Resolved

.......

Anyone know why this return code happened, appreciate on your feedback.

Pages are not being displayed properly with automatic proxy configuration in IE11

Hello

we provide a proxy-service for some customers. We have two of them, that have some strange issues.

If they activate their automatic configuration script in IE11 some pages (like google maps) are not displayed correctly. We already checked the wpad. Unfortunately the problem occurs with a simple wpad without any special settings too.

If we deactivate the automatic configuration everything is fine.
The problem occurs only with the automatic configuration, not with the "normal" proxy settings.

I already tried to activate/deactivate the compatibility mode for IE. Unfortunately without success.

With IE 9, the problem does not occur.
The operating system is windows 7 enterprise x64

Kind Regards

Luca

IE9 wont open pages, just give a new tab thats blank

IE9 won't open a lot of pages.  It just opens a new tab that is a blank screen and a empty tab title.  The extension types all vary.  However, if I cut and paste the link in a new tab it will work.  I already tried to down grade the version to 8, but it says its unsupported by windows 7 64 bit, funny I started with 8...

Cannot add search engines in IE11

0

I can't add any search engines in Internet Explorer 11 anymore.

When I try to add Google (or any other) I get an error message saying "The search provider could not be installed".

As I am Swedish it is searching for Swedish search engines. When I force it to go to the English iegallery site it can't even find Google as a search engine and it only finds about 16 different addons total.

I have tried this on several computers, both domain joined and not. I have tried to completely uninstall IE11 and re install it with no luck.

Any idea on what's going on?

Hsrd yahoo redirect Malware or Homeland Security Redirect

Recently I thought I was infected with malware because all links on the Yahoo home page were redirecting me to urls prefixed with hsrd then would resolve to the correct page. I used all the tools I know of to see search and destroy the malware no luck. After some research I can’t find a good description of this other than Yahoo and Homeland Security maybe in bed together. I had multiple people on different secure networks in different states validate they have and see the hsrd redirects so can somebody confirm this is not malware then what is it?

"SCRIPT5: Access is denied" error when accessing web sites using LocalStorage

0
0

We are having an issue with Internet Explorer 10 affecting users on a number of our Windows 8 workstations. When a user visits a web site that uses the Local Storage feature of HTML5, the page is not displayed correctly. For example, if you visit this page:

http://jsfiddle.net/xFtQR/

You should see text in the grey boxes in the lower-right hand corner if everything is working. For the affected users, nothing is displayed. In addition, if you open the F12 Developer Tools and reload the page, the following error message is displayed: "SCRIPT5: Access is denied.". It appears the LocalStorage feature is broken for these users.

From the troubleshooting I've done so far, I've determined that this issue does not affect the Local Administrator account on these computers, but it does affect any domain user and any new local user I create, whether the local user is in the Administrators group or not. This leads me to believe the issue may be related to the default user profile in the image that was applied to these computers.

Other observations:

  • Performing a complete reset of Internet Explorer settings (from Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced) does not resolve the issue
  • These sites do work correctly after turning off Protected Mode for the Internet Zone (from Tools > Internet Options... > Security)
  • These sites also work correctly when InPrivate Browsing is turned on

I've tried using Process Monitor to determine whether access is being blocked to a folder. On a working computer, iexplore.exe creates a file within a folder at C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DOMStore. I can't see anything on an affected computer that would prevent IE from creating this folder, as the security settings on the folder all appear to be correct.

The location of this folder appears to be stored in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\LowCache\Extensible Cache\DOMStore. I've tried copying this key from a working computer and blanking it out entirely to have IE recreate it, but neither resolved the issue. I've even gone as far as to try and compare an export of the registry from the default user profile from a working system and an affected system but I haven't been able to pinpoint any differences which I thought might be relevant.

I've tried the "Internet Explorer Performance" and "Internet Explorer Safety" troubleshooters in the Control Panel.

Here are some links to articles on other sites which make reference to the same (or a similar) issue:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie10-windows_7/ie10-script5-access-is-denied/e87bdb30-7f2a-4510-bfa3-a22b995f777b
http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/357825-ie10-script5-access-is-denied
https://github.com/meteor/meteor/issues/1291

Unlike these other cases, deleting an affected user's profile does not resolve the issue (further bolstering my theory that the issue is due to an issue in the default profile in my case).

Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide!

Unable to download and install Internet Explorer 10 using WSUS

Hi,

Internet Explorer version 10 was approved using WSUS but few Windows 7 machines are not receiving the update through Windows update. Tried the below steps:

1. Changed the Target Group in the client to the IE10 Approved Target Group.

2. Manually installed the IE10 Pre requisites.

3. Ran Microsoft fixit.

4. Ran System readiness tool

None of the above worked.

Please guide on this issue.

PAC File Scripting using Regular Expressions?

0
0

I some developers have created multiple URL's with number in them see example below and my question is this; is there a way to use regular expressions  in the pac file to go from three lines  as shown in a pac file to one?

I have tried localHostOrDomainIs(host, "test[1-3]-dev.pp.tom.com") without success.

Example:

localHostOrDomainIs(host, "test1-dev.pp.tom.com")

localHostOrDomainIs(host, "test2-dev.pp.tom.com")

localHostOrDomainIs(host, "test3-dev.pp.tom.com")

Thank you in advance for your help

Basic vs Negotiate Authentication.

0

Good Day.

I am observing different behaviour on several client PCs; it looks like different versions of Ie.

if a website is protected as follows  - what are the decision matrices used by IE to select either Basic or Negotiate, assuming it can do both ?

I have some PCs on a domain,  W8+ie10 - uses basic,  W7+IE9 uses negotiate.  In all cases they are in Internet Sites with Integrated Authentication,   they do NOT have kerberos tickets for the domain being logged onto and we are using "Automatic Logon with Current User and Password".   It appears there is a setting or change in versions that forces IE to incorrectly select Negotiate when it should use basic.

The question is, what has changed ?  I tried ETS tracing on WinInet but all it told me was it had selected Negotiate or Basic, but not WHY.   Second Question : is there tracing logic to see why it is picking one or the other ?

Impossible to activate IE11 Enterprise mode on Windows 7

Hello everybody,

With late, I have just discovered the IE11 Enterprise mode.

In order to test it, I created an OU or I applied two GPO for enable IE Enterprise mode.

On the target computer, I see that the GPO has enable, again, if I look in the registry, I found two key inHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode

When i launch Internet Explorer, if I go to "Tools" I can not find mode "Enterprise". Also, if I go to the site on the list, none works in compatibility mode

Any idea where I could sin? I have install the update KB2929437 thinking it was because of that, but it's not better If you have ideas / solutions.

Thanks
